'El Zorro' to Anfield? Liverpool very close to signing 'fantastic' €40m international. Done Deal soon?

With deals for Piotr Zielinski and Mario Gotze seemingly in the toilet, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly turned his attention to Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, who is allegedly on the verge of a transfer to Anfield.

A few hours ago, Fox Sports Mexico reporter Vladimir Garcia claimed:

"Hector Herrera is one step away leaving Porto to sign for Liverpool (Pachuca has 30% of their rights)".

Some info about Herrera, who is Porto's current 'Player of the Year':

* 26-year old central midfielder. Current contract has a €40m buyout clause, and expires in 2019. Nickname 'El Zorro'.

* Porto: 19 goals/19 assists (38) in 115 games (One every 217 mins). This season: 14 goals/assists in 34 games (One every 205 mins). 3 goals in 39 apps for Mexico.

* May 2012: Hererra's agent told ESPN: "Liverpool is interested, and the club's scouts came to Mexico on a general scouting trip".

* May 2012: Herrera confirmed: "I was only introduced to him [the Liverpool scout]. I haven't been told anything concrete yet and I'll have to wait to see. "

* Jun 2014: Sky Sports Scouting Report: "Combative, all-action midfielder; box to box; not afraid to put his foot in. Good all-rounder, with skill and who can pass".

* Dec 2015: Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio enthused: "Hector Herrera is a fantastic player who can get up to the level of [Bastien] Schweinsteiger".

* Feb 2016: Herrera told ESPN: "I think I'm like Riquelme in the way I play. With his class, tranquility, and vision, for me, he is the best".

Herrera's goal/assist ratio isn't that impressive, but there are a few plus points:

* Incredibly robust, and is never injured (No injuries for his entire career to date).

* Experienced international midfielder, and is entering the prime of his career.

* Has captained Porto and Mexico, which shows that he has leadership ability (something Liverpool desperately need).

A good transfer target?
