Transfer Agreed: Liverpool seal deal to sign 'unpredictable' €6m sensation who's 'happy' about Anfield interest

A few months ago, Liverpool were linked with a move for Anderlecht midfielder Samuel Bastien, and new reports today suggest that Bastien - currently on loan at Avellino - is set to become Jurgen Klopp's fifth signing.

In March, TalkSport claimed:

* Liverpool have 'stepped up their interest' in Bastien, who has allegedly been on the Reds' radar 'since last season'.

* Reds scouts have 'frequently watched' Bastien over the last year, and the club is ready to pay the €7m asking price.

Now, according to Avellino-based Irpinia News:

"Samuel Bastien will sign for Liverpool. Anderlecht has an agreement in principle [with Liverpool] for €5m-€6m. Bastien's Agent is keeping him informed of the evolving negotiations".

Some info about Bastien:

* Central midfielder, who can also play as an AM or a DM.

* 3 goals/assists in 31 games for Avellino this season.

* Jan 2016: Bastien's Agent told reporters: "He [Bastien] is creative, fast and unpredictable. Avellino is very pleased with him, but other teams are following him".

* Feb 2016: On his time at Avellino: "I am playing here in a more offensive role, with more freedom. Fans say I am the new Kevin De Bruyne, but I should stay realistic: this is only my first season as a professional".

* Feb 2016: When asked specifically about Liverpool's interest, he told reporters: "That makes me happy but I should take one step at a time. A return to Anderlecht is also possible".

In situations like this, I defer to the wisdom of Bart and Lisa Simpson:

With 19-year old Marko Grujic already signed, and Brannagan, Stewart, and Chirivella at the club, there's arguably no point in signing yet another teenage central midfielder, especially with the reduced number of games next season.

Additionally, what is the point of the Academy if the club keeps ignoring talented players already on the books? Klopp could just save the €6m, and develop Brannagan, Stewart, and Chirivella, who are settled at the club, and already have valuable first-team experience.
