'One of the Best': Guardiola hails 'extraordinary' €50m attacker wanted by Liverpool. Anfield-bound?

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move German star Mario Gotze, and according to Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, €50m-rated Gotze is is one of the best players he's ever managed.

Last Tuesday, Sky Sports claimed:

"Liverpool are interested in making a summer move for Mario Gotze, Sky sources understand".

A day later, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp described Gotze as a player with 'extraordinary abilities', but refused to confirm or deny the club's interest.

When asked over the weekend about Gotze, Guardiola enthused:

"I have great respect for Gotze. He can play in any game system in the world and I want only the best for him. He's one of the best players I've ever coached."

Hmmm. If Gotze is one of the 'best players' Guardiola has every coached, and can 'play in any system in the world', why is he a bit-part player at Bayern?

With only 6 league starts this season (and perennial status as an unused sub), Guardiola's comments about Gotze seem a little disingenuous.

Bayern's loss may ultimately be Liverpool's gain, though, but with Coutinho, Firmino, and Klopp-favourite Adam Lallana at the club, Gotze will have a similar struggle maintain a place in the starting lineup.

Perhaps Gotze is better off staying at Bayern, where he's basically guaranteed to compete for - and win - major trophies every season?
