Liverpool face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League this week, and ahead of the game, the Reds have received a massive boost with the news that BVB will be without one of their most effective players.
According to the Liverpool Echo:
"Gundogan is expected to miss the [Liverpool] game on Thursday due to injury".
Great! Now, if Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, and Reus get injured between now and Thursday, Liverpool might actually have a chance of winning the game.
But seriously...
Bad news for Gundogan, but great news for Liverpool, and hopefully, the Reds will be able to capitalise on the German midfielder's absence.
Liverpool are regularly linked with €30m-rated Gundogan:
* Nov 2015: Tutto Sport claimed that Gundogan is 'keen' to sign for Liverpool.
* Dec 2015: When asked about the Liverpool rumours, he told Sportbild: "Liverpool have a good team, and a great coach. I will make a decision [soon]".
* Feb 2016: German newspaper BILD claimed that Klopp is still 'keen' to bring Gundogan to Anfield.
If Gundogan - described by Klopp as an 'extraordinary player - wants out, then Liverpool (in theory) have a great chance of sealing a deal.
Granted, Gundogan has a patchy injury history, but one major issue aside (400 days out during the 2013-14 season/88 games missed), the German never missed more than one game at a time (until now, that is!)
Liverpool fans don't seem to that enamored with the prospect of a transfer, though. In December, the I conduced a poll on the site asking fans if Klopp should sign Gundogan. The results:
Advantage Liverpool, or will BVB's strength in depth pose the biggest threat?
