'I couldn't believe it': Jamie Carragher slates £50m star for 'embarrassing' Liverpool performance.

Take that! Liverpool are up to seventh in the Premier League table after annihilating Everton 4-0 at Anfield, and amid the euphoria of the result, ex-Evertonian Jamie Carragher has launched a scathing attack on his boyhodd club's performance.

Analysing the game for Sky Sports, Carra labelled^ £50m-rated Everton defender John Stones 'embarrassing' for his part in Liverpool's goals, and further scathed:

"Everton were embarrassing. Embarrassing defeat. Embarrassing performance. It was so easy for Liverpool to pass the ball around. It could’ve been 6 or 7 [goals] I couldn’t believe how Everton reacted when they went down to 10 men".

I believe the operative word here is 'embarrassing' ;-) Carra is right. Liverpool embarrassed Everton, and dominated the entire game, not just the last half-hour after Funes Mori's red card.

John Stones - who, according to Roberto Martinez, has 'incredible potential' - got done up like a kipper on all four goals, and the idea that he's somehow worth £50m is just nonsense of the highest order.

Man of the match? James Milner. I freely admit to being less than enamored by his signing, but Milner is doing a great job this season, and unlike some (Lallana, for example, who is on another barren run) he consistently delivers in the final third. 21 goals/assists for the season now, so credit where credit is due.

Sakho and Lovren were also imperious yet again, with Sakho's impressive (and perfectly time) last-ditch tackle on Lukaku a particular defensive highlight.

The bad news is that this defeat may benefit Man Utd for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final. Everton are at rock bottom right now, but I hope Roberto Martinez can pick them up as no Liverpool fan wants to see Louis Van Gaal's breathtakingly pedestrian team progress to the final.
