LFC Update: Klopp on Sturridge fitness; confirms 'serious' injury and lengthy layoff for 'outstanding' star

On Sunday, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge 'couldn't walk' after playing 120 minutes of the League Cup final, and after missing out on Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Man City, Klopp has provided an injury update on Sturridge. Luckily, it's good news.

When asked about injuries today during his weekly press conference, Klopp told reporters:

"Daniel Sturridge trained completely normally yesterday.”

To be honest, after his latest injury comeback, I expected Sturridge to back on the treatment table by now, but he's fit, which is (potentially) great news for the rest of the season.

The better news is that Sturridge hasn't scored for three straight games (which rarely happens), so he's due a goal, and that bodes well for Sunday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Alas, it's not all wine and roses. Klopp also confirmed:

"Lucas is really unfortunate. It [his injury] is a little bit more serious. I don’t know exactly [how long he'll be out] but five or six weeks, which is not too good.”

'Outstanding' Lucas is in a rich vein of form right now, but with Skrtel and Lovren back in the squad, and Toure rolling back the years, Liverpool are (once again) well covered at centre-back.

After the impressive clean-sheet against Man City, Klopp should (IMO) stick with Lovren and Toure for the Palace game.
