Anfield Surprise? 55% of Liverpool fans want Klopp to replace Jordan Henderson with a new captain (Local Poll)

Last week, Reds legend Steven Gerrard hailed current club captain Jordan Henderson as an 'example to all players', but many fans - myself included - are skeptical of his ability to be an effective long-term leader for Liverpool. The weekend defeat to Man City did little to quell the growing questions about Henderson's captaincy, and recent poll on the site suggests that fans remain unconvinced about his leadership ability.

In his weekend column for The Telegraph, Gerrard raved:

"I'd love to see Henderson lifting that trophy. [Some] players are absolutely dedicated [and] determined to [be] the best they can be [and] Jordan is an example to all [Liverpool] players".

Alas, Henderson couldn't inspire Liverpool to beat Manchester City on Sunday, and he is currently under fire (from some fans) for his apparent failure to step-up and take a penalty.

Whether that's a leadership issue is open to debate, but irrespective of the penalty situation, Liverpool fans appears to support a change in the captaincy.

On Friday, I conducted a poll asking whether Klopp should appoint a new captain, or keep Henderson in place. The results:

Unfortunately, leaders are thin on the ground at Anfield, but after the League Cup final, Lucas Leiva is (arguably) the most viable candidate. If Klopp converts him into a full-time central defender, then Lucas has to be a candidate, and I truly believe he'd grow into the role and flourish as a leader.

Lucas for defence and captain?
