Confirmed Team News: 'Amazing' Liverpool star out of Southampton; suffers 17th hamstring injury of the season

You couldn't make it up. Liverpool's Klopp-created hamstring curse has struck again, and this time, 'amazing' Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino is the latest victim of a injury that continues to derail the club's season.

On Saturday, the Brazilian FA confirmed:

"The striker Jonas, of Benfica, is summoned for the matches against Uruguay (March 25) and Paraguay (March 29). Jonas is listed in place of Roberto Firmino.”

The BFA offered no details about the nature of €40m-rated Firmino's injury, but the Liverpool Echo has now confirmed:

"[Firmino] has suffered a hamstring injury and will be assessed during the international break. At first it was thought the injury was not serious...but the ECHO can confirm it is a hamstring problem".

This is Liverpool's 17th hamstring injury of the season, which is absolutely unprecedented.

LFC Hamstring Injuries: 2015/16

* Jordan Rossiter (x2), Philippe Coutinho (x2), Joe Allen, Christian Benteke, Kolo Toure, Jose Enrique, James Milner, Daniel Sturridge, Simon Mignolet, Martin Skrtel, Divock Origi, Dejan Lovren, Jordon Ibe, Alberto Moreno, Robert Firmino.

As I've argued several times, Klopp made a huge mistake in immediately implementing high intensity gegenpressing at Anfield. That approach decimated Liverpool's squad and created a serious injury crisis, which is still claiming victims to this day.

This approach also decimated Dortmund's squad, especially last season, when the constant physical rinsing of BVB's players finally came home to roost in a perfect storm of injuries, physical/mental fatigue, and damaging under-performance.

Seriously, even the friggin' goalkeeper has suffered a hamstring injury under Klopp, which just shows the extent of the problem. At this stage, it's easier to simply list the the first-team regulars who *haven't* suffered hamstring injuries this season: Sakho, Lallana, Lucas, Can, and, erm, that's about it.

Their time will come, I'm sure.
