You're Out: Molby claims £50k-a-week powerhouse 'will' replace 'spectacular' £18m Liverpool star (or Skrtel/Lovren)

The imminent arrival of Joel Matip from Schalke in the summer will almost certainly spell trouble for one centre-back at Liverpool, but who is most likely to make way?

In his column for the Liverpool Echo this week, Reds legend Jan Molby noted:

"Matip [Reportedly offered £50k-a-week by LFC] will be the number one choice at centre-back. That's why Jurgen Klopp has bought him, to build the defence around".

Molby further added:

"I'd not be surprised if one of Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel are moved on".

No sh^t (!) Even if Klopp decides he wants all three to stay, there's no chance of keeping four international centre-backs happy, so at least one of the three will seek a transfer away.

My money is on the allegedly 'spectacular' Sakho. As illustrated in the past, Liverpool concede more goals and lose more games with Sakho (both this season, and last), but with Lovren, the team is far more defensively solid.

In my view, there's no chance of Skrtel leaving; in terms of fitness and form, he is (currently and historically) Liverpool's most reliable defender, and is capable - like Carra and Toure - of being a dependable defensive asset well into his 30s.

Liverpool fans appear to agree, and a recent site poll shows that Skrtel still retains a lot of support amongst the fanbase:

Ultimately, the key question is this: which of Liverpool's current central defenders is best equipped to help Matip settle into the team's defensive unit?
