Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez, and according to the Bundesliga club's CEO, Michael Schade, Hernandez is definitely transferable...for the right price.
In January, Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claimed:
"Arsenal and Liverpool both want to sign Javier Hernandez, and the two clubs will go head-to-head for his signature at the end of the season".
When asked this week about Hernandez, Schade admitted that Leverkusen hope to keep hold of the Mexican striker, but admitted:
"We are a commercial enterprise and there are limits. If there are huge offers, then we will consider them."
A 'huge offer' is (arguably) wishful thinking on Leverkusen's part, but it's certainly possible to make a very strong case for a big transfer fee:
* Rarely injured, and proven in the Premier League, La Liga, and the Bundesliga.
* Copious Champions League experience, and proven on the international stage (51 goals/assists in 78 games/one every 100 mins).
* Given his comparatively minimal average minutes per game (AMPG), Chicharito's minutes per goals/assist ratio is excellent:
- Man Utd: 59 goals/20 assists (79) in 159 apps (One every 105 mins (AMPG = 52 mins)
- Real Madrid: 9 goals/9 assists (18) in 33 apps = One every 75 mins (AMPG = 41 mins)
- Leverkusen (This Season): 22 goals/2 assists in 29 apps = One every 85 mins (AMPG = 77 mins)
- Career Total: 119 goals/42 assists (160) in 292 apps = One every 96 mins (AMPG = 53 mins)
Hernandez - hailed by Real Madrid legend Emilio Butragueno as an 'incredible player' - basically guarantees a certain level of goals and assists, and the fact he's maintained his prolific output in three separate leagues (and at international level) is a good indicator of probable success at Anfield.
If Liverpool go in for £20m-rated Hernandez this summer, should the Reds break the bank and make a 'huge offer'. Is the Mexican worth £20m+?
