Done Deal 'in hours'? After advanced talks, Liverpool to sign 'dangerous' €22m attacker today?

Over the summer, Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid 'phenomenon' Denis Cheryshev, and after being totally ignored by Rafa Benitez, and Zinedine Zidane, it appears that the 'dangerous' Russian winger is finally on the verge of a move to Anfield.

On Sunday night, Spanish newspaper Sport claimed:

"Cheryshev will become a Liverpool player in the next few hours. Talks are at an advanced stage and the contract is only awaiting a signature".

When asked on Sunday about Liverpool's interest, Zidane also appeared to suggest that a move is imminent:

"We'll see [about the transfer] tomorrow, but yes, Cheryshev could leave. He's a great player but he needs to play."

Recent transfer timeline:

Aug 2015: The Telegraph claimed that Liverpool were planning a €22m offer for Cheryshev.

Aug 2015: Marca claimed that the Reds had already put in an offer for the Russian winger.

Sep 2015: Cheryshev revealed his frustration: "Benitez hasn't explained why he didn't pick me. It's an unpleasant situation, but I'll keep working hard."

Some info about Cheryshev:

* Left-winger, who spent last season on loan at Villareal.

* 5 injuries in the last two years (39 games missed): 3x hamstring, plus a serious muscle injury (out for 122 days), and a fractured toe.

* 2014-15: 7 goals/11 assists in 40 games for Villareal (One every 150 mins)

* This season: 2 goals/assists in 6 apps. Averaging only 19 minutes of pitch time per game.

* Career total: 19 goal/19 assists in 87 apps (one every 143 mins)

Cheryshev's goals/assists ratio is creditable, but his recent injury history is a massive concern; the last thing Liverpool need is another player who regularly suffers niggling injury issues.

That said, if the Reds can get him for around £7m, the figure being bandied about by the media, then there's little overall risk. Additionally, with Euro 2016 on the horizon, Cheryshev will be desperate to prove himself, which will almost certainly mean 100% effort on the pitch.

Liverpool need wide players; Cheryshev wants out. A no-brainer transfer?
