Liverpool have been linked with a number of goalkeepers over the last few months, and the latest name to enter the fray is Real Betis 'stopper Antonio Adan.
Spanish newspaper AS claims:
* Liverpool are tracking Adan, along with a number of other Premier League clubs.
* The Reds are allegedly 'leading the race' for Adan's signature.
When asked this week about Liverpool's interest, Betis Technical Secretary Alexis Trujillo admitted:
"Adan's €8m clause makes him a very attractive because he is an excellent goalkeeper. I am concerned about it and I wish he had a higher clause".
Some info about Adan:
* Betis: 105 goals conceded in 85 (1 every 73 mins).
* 31 clean sheets (36% of games/1 every 247 mins)
* €8m buyout clause, but in an interview this week, he told Marca: "It'll be difficult to have an offer of €8m for me. Clubs do not pay big money for goalkeepers, and I doubt they'll pay that for me".
* Clearly, Adan has low self-belief, and Trujillo confirmed that this week, when he told reporters: "He [Adan] has terrible confidence in himself but he gives calmness to the rest of the team because he is enjoying a great moment."
* On his best qualities: "My naturalness, my normality, my humility. Those are important values for me. I like to see them in other people too".
* On Ex-Red Jerzy Dudek: "He is a phenomenon, and I’ve learned a lot from him as a person. He’s a great professional, as he’s spent his whole life taking care of himself and working hard".
* His football idol is Iker Casillas, who he describes as 'the best goalkeeper in the world'.
Adan's minutes-per-goal conceded ratio is worse than Mignolet's, so he's clearly not the solution. The Reds need an upgrade, and to me, Adan has all the hallmarks of a back-up goalkeeper.
Additionally, signing a 'keeper with 'terrible confidence' seems counter-intuitive. Liverpool need a strong, confident, commanding goalkeeper, not another shrinking violet.
