Transfer Alert: Liverpool ready to pay €32m for 'excellent' attacker with 85 goals/assists for Lazio

Last season, Liverpool were linked with move for Lazio star Antonio Candreva, and new reports this week suggest that Jurgen Klopp is wiling to spend big to bring the Italian attacker to Anfield.

According to SportMediaset:

"Liverpool are interested in signing Antonio Candreva, and the club is ready to offer €32m to seal the transfer".

Candreva - nicknamed 'Il Timida' (The Shy one) on account of his cautious style of play - appears to be amenable to a move, and his agent confirmed this in January, when he told Radio Sei:

“If new offers come in, we’ll talk to the President. I don’t know if Lazio will hold on to Candreva in the summer".

Some info about Candreva, described in November as an 'excellent' player by Lazio boss Stefano Pioli:

* Can play as a winger, or a midfield playmaker. Current deal expires in 2018.

* 41 goals/44 assists (85) in 177 apps for Lazio (1 every 157 mins).

* This season: 13 goals/assists in 28 apps (1 every 228 mins)

* 3 goals in 3 apps for the Italy national team.

Back in 2013, Borussia Dortmund were heavily linked with a move for Candreva, so Klopp's alleged interest in no real surprise.

be that as it may, Candreva is not (IMO) prolific enough to warrant a €32m transfer fee. For that money, Liverpool should be signing a player with a significantly higher minutes per goals/assist ratio.

There's also the Serie A connection to consider; it's becoming a bit of a cliche now, but there's no escaping the fact that players from the Italian league rarely seem to settle and/or excel at Anfield.
