Injury Nightmare: 'Powerful' Liverpool defender confirms he needs a 'second operation'. Season-killer?

In October, Liverpool defender Lloyd Jones had to end his loan spell at Blackpool after sustaining an ankle injury. After returning to Anfield, Jones quickly had surgery to correct the issue, but it now appears that the injury is worse than anyone expected.

Injury timeline:

* Sep 29: Stretchered off the field during Blackpool's 2-0 victory over Chesterfield.

* Oct 07: Jones confirmed that was scheduled for 'operations' on his 'knee & ankle'.

* Oct 08: Jones tweeted: "Both operations went well! Time to recover".

* Oct 21: He tweeted: "Staples out. Ready for rehab".

Well, it appears that the surgery didn't fix the issue/s as Jones confirmed this morning that he's scheduled to have a 'second operation today'.

This new procedure will make it three separate operations in a month, which suggests that Jones has a long road to recovery/fitness ahead.

The Liverpool website described Jones as follows:

"A powerful centre-back...extremely talented in the air. Never one to shirk a challenge, the Welshman is also a cultured defender, who is confident enough to play the ball out from the back. His heading and aerial abilities mean Jones is a highly-rated member of the Reds' set-up".

Powerful; extremely talented; cultured defender; highly-rated. If this is true, why did Liverpool send Jones - the U21 captain - out on loan in the first place?

He sounds like the type of player who'd enhance the first-team squad, and when he's fit again, It's probable that Jurgen Klopp will keep Jones at the club (as opposed to sending him back out on loan).
