The Chosen One: Klopp wants 'fantastic' £20m attacker at Liverpool; he's 'asked' FSG to cancel loan deal

In October, (conflicting) reports claimed that Jurgen Klopp is considering a January recall for on-loan Liverpool attacker Lazar Markovic, but is it even possible to cancel the Serb's loan deal midway through the season?

Last week, the Liverpool Echo claimed:

"[Liverpool] have the option of cutting short [Markovic's] stay in Turkey. Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Markovic and will consider recalling him in January".

According to The Guardian's Raphael Honigstein, however, a recall to Anfield is not possible. When asked about Markovic today, he claimed:

"Markovic is the one name that he [Klopp] asked the club to take back. Apparently they can't, maybe if they pay a fee, but I'm sure Liverpool will be very reluctant to pay money to get their player back."

Markovic - hailed by Jordan Henderson as a 'fantastic player - has already cost Liverpool a shedload of money, so spending more to get him out of a loan deal is (or should be) out of the question. The Reds need wingers, but not that much (!)

Markovic in Numbers

* 58 weeks as a Liverpool player.

* £20m Transfer fee.

* £60k-a-week salary (£3.5m over 58 weeks)

* £23.5m total cost to Liverpool(£20m transfer fee + £3.5m salary)

* 34 appearances overall.

* 4 goals/assists in 34 appearances (3 goals/1 assist).

* 1880 minutes played for LFC (Average 55 mins per game).

* £7.8m cost-per-goal.

* £12500 earned for every per minute of pitch time.

Ouch! Markovic is not doing much better at Fenerbahce, either. So far, he's grabbed 1 assist0 goals in 7 games, which equates to 1 goal/assist every 6.7 hours of football. Reds legend Mark Lawrenson just about summed it up last week, when he told the Liverpool Echo:

"Markovic didn't do enough to convince he could make the grade at Anfield. You can only give a player so many chances. You have to be realistic and a touch harsh: How many times did he get to the byline and cross? Not many. So, how many did he score then? Not many".

Leave Markovic in Turkey. Bring back Sheyi Ojo or Sergi Canos instead.
