Transfer Update: Liverpool want 'exceptional' €30m Brazilian to spearhead Klopp overhaul. Contact made in October

If the frequency of transfer rumours are anything to go by, defensive midfield is a priority position for Liverpool, and after being linked with a number of DMs over the last six weeks, the latest name to enter the fray is Napoli star Jorge Luiz Frello Filho (aka Jorginho).

In October, Liverpool reportedly contacted Napoli about Jorginho, and according to Tuesday's edition of Gazetta Dello Sport:

* Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd, and PSG are interested in signing €30m-rated Jorginho.

* According to the Brazilian's Agent, Napoli will sell if they receive an 'indispensable offer'.

Some info about Jorginho.

* Defensive midfielder, who can also play as an attacking mid.

* Chose to represent Italy at international level, and is eligible for a work permit.

* 20 goals/assists in 96 apps for Hellas Verona, and 6 goals/assists in 64 games for Napoli.

* Only 7 days out injured for his entire career to date.

* Liverpool's scouts have reportedly watched Jorginho several times.

* Description from Four Four Two magazine: "Jorginho’s qualities lie in his vision and passing ability. His distribution is exceptional, and he possesses the ability to place long, diagonal passes or unlock the defence with a quick, clever ball".

A Xabi Alonso-style deep-lying playmaker with defensive abilities is something Liverpool have lacked for years, and with Klopp focused on creating a 'stable' defensive unit, it makes sense that he'd target this type of player.

If Liverpool sign another central midfielder, though, then it's surely going to be curtains for one or two of the club's existing midfielders. My money is on Joe Allen being moved on, but there's also the possibility that Emre Can may ultimately find himself relegated to the bench.

Bottom line: If Klopp sees Can as a future staple of his team, there's no need to sign another central midfielder...right?
