Done Deal: Liverpool sealed last-gasp £500k transfer for exciting attacker on deadline-day. Coutinho mk 2?

Tiago Ilori's loan deal aside, things were quiet at Anfield on transfer deadline day, but although it appears that Liverpool failed to sign anyone yesterday, the club actually completed one transfer before the window slammed shut.

Thirteen minutes before Tuesday's transfer deadline, the Liverpool Echo confirmed that the Reds had officially signed Brazilian midfielder Allan Rodriguez de Souza:

"Liverpool had a Premier League deal sheet accepted on Brazilian youngster Allan Rodrigues de Souza, who has been training with them all summer".

So, what is a 'deal sheet'? The Premier League's official website provides the following description:

"Clubs sometimes conclude deals at the last minute...and the deal sheet...confirms that a deal has been reached and [triggers] additional time to submit documentation. The sheet needs to arrive fully completed before the transfer window closes".

If Liverpool submitted a deal sheet so late in the window, it means they needed more time to complete the deal. The Premier League accepted the deal sheet, so the transfer was probably ratified around the same time as the Tiago Ilori deal.

Liverpool have also officially confirmed the deal on the club's official website:

"Liverpool Football Club confirm the signing of Allan Rodrigues de Souza from Internacional. The 18-year-old has immediately joined Finnish side Seinajoen Jalkapallokerho on loan until January".

Some further details about the deal.

* De Souza'a transfer fee is a (comparatively) modest £500k.

* Allan will join the club's academy, with first-team action 'some way off'.

* A loan spell later this season is 'possible'.

Some further information about De Souza:

* Attacking midfielder, who can play centrally, or as a number 10.

* Captained SC Internacional's U18 team.

* Jan 2015: Featured at the Frenz International Cup (FIC) held in Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur earlier this year, where he reportedly 'impressed' Liverpool coaches.

* Jan 2015: Scored a 40-yard wondergoal for Internacional in the semi-final of the FIC Cup, which sealed the club's advancement to the final.

* After the SF, Allan told Dunia Sukan online: “It will be fatal if we underestimate our opponents. We had very tough matches along the way [and] we will be very serious once on the field.”

* Allan went on to the lead the team to a 3-2 victory over Estudiantes in the final.

I just have one question: How long before Rodgers labels him one or more of the following: outstanding, amazing, brilliant, wonderful, brilliant or, terrific.

I give it one month. After all, it only took three weeks for Rodgers to claim that Joe Gomez is 'outstanding', so I'm probably in the right ball-park.

As I always say, though, you can never have enough Brazilians in the team, and with any luck, De Souza will follow in the footsteps of Coutinho, and become an exciting player for Liverpool.

Still, it's hard to be enthusiastic about a player who - based on the historical chances given to non-British academy midfielders - will probably never make more than five first team appearances.
