Photo Proof: 'Outstanding' Academy goal-machine trains with Coutinho. Surprise start vs. Stoke?

After an excellent season at the Academy, Reds starlet Jerome Sinclair has made the breakthrough into the first-team squad, and over the last few weeks, he's been rewarded with substitute appearances against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

A starting berth may not be far away, and with the season basically over, Sunday's game against Stoke City is arguably the ideal opportunity for Rodgers to hand Sinclair his first senior start.

As the following photo shows, Sinclair - described by Jamie Carragher as an 'outstanding' finisher - trained with the first team yet again on Friday, which suggests he may play some part in Sunday's game:

In his Friday press conference, Rodgers confirmed that Mario Balotelli is a 'doubt' for the Stoke game; Daniel Sturridge is out injured, and Lambert/Borini are seemingly incapable of scoring goals, so why not just start Sinclair?

In 2012, Sinclair became Liverpool's youngest ever player when he made his League Cup debut against West Brom, and the official LFC website describes Sinclair as follows:

Jerome Sinclair is a forward who...now features for both the U18s and U21s at the Academy, showing his prolific ability at either level".

It's probably wishful thinking to expect Rodgers to start Sinclair on Sunday; Lambert may get the nod, or failing that, The Mercenary will probably play up-front.

Even if Sinclair gets some pitch time against Stoke, his first-team experience may ultimately be short-lived. According to the Daily Mail:

"Liverpool are talking to Jerome Sinclair about a new contract. The 19-year-old is highly-regarded at Anfield but is likely to be loaned out again next season"

In my view, there's no need to send Sinclair out on loan again next season; just keep him in the squad, and play him in Cup games, with regular cameos in the League and - if Liverpool make it - the Europa League.

  1. I would love to see him start ahead of Sterling and Lambert. A thought though, how much would the traveling supporters boo sterling! :p

  2. Not that I don't care about Sinclair training, in fact I love it, BUT we have more important things going on:
    1. Since Khedira has confirmed his injury problems are nothing like the media has made it out to be, I'd like us to at least try to sign him, especially since he is FREE. that way I don't have a problem with Lucas leaving.
    2. I'd like us to sign De Bruyne for 50 M from the sale of Mercenary. 20 M in a year represents a massive profit for Wolfsburg in a year and that should IMO be enough.
BUT back to reality, loving my old chap JFM;)

    ReplyDelete
  3. And on a related note how sad it is that Arsenal are about to sign Jackson while we are thinking of Austin an Ings to lead the line for next season...

  4. Sick of BR not playing out many top youngsters in games, they have no fear as they have not failed yet..........................Canos, Wilson, Kent, Brannagan, Stewart etc........................get them in.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Sell Sterling...........sign Milner, Ings, Konoplyanka and Andre Ayew on free transfers........................they would improve us along with Divock Origi.

  12. It was suspicious to me to see his performances in Brazil and then being on the bench for RM. The guy spreads class

good players for midtable teams not a top 4 club like liverpool... why is it that us fans are accepting mediocrity... i dont understand it.... is chelsea, man u, or arsenal gunning for these players no they arent... but i guess they have that special quality that BR likes in his transfers... versatility...

  14. Yes like Charlie Adam.

we already have the welsh xavi guess we're going for the english pirlo james milner watch out Europe LFC is coming

  21. FFP is now being relaxed meaning LFC have even less chance of signing top class players, as well as not getting into the top 4...................well done BR.

    ReplyDelete
  22. voice of reason3:13 pm, May 23, 2015

right right right i'm off to bed cause it seems like u will just create excuses to justify this mediocrity that is suddenly being accepted at LFC

  23. Night night!!!.....................LOL.

  24. JFM is at best a less fancied version of Micheal Carrick which tells a long way about his quality...

    ReplyDelete
  25. You seem to have other ideas though which interests me to know.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If we are wise enough we could use the Mercenary money to have a lucky escape. The thing is the money should be used by another manager or whoever is in charge not brendan...

    ReplyDelete
  27. If we're thinking of an English striker it should be Berahino, then Austin. Berahino has scored against the top teams & is most likely to go furthest.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Doc, I suggest a non-English signing policy this year. Let's see if we can do better or not. One thing's sure, couldn't be worse from going from 2nd down to 5th plus spending 120 M....

    ReplyDelete
  29. And one more thing, wouldn't be signing anyone whose agent is the ' Weird' guy! that rules out Berahino right away...

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hear you. We've had so much misfortune with dodgy foreign imports. Getting the best of the British once in a while could represent a good strategy. Especially with sell on value.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh yes, I totally forgot.!

    ReplyDelete
  32. So why do we want Danny Ings?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Who is JFM, please?

    ReplyDelete
  34. James 'friggin' Milner

    ReplyDelete
  35. BR: 'This is a young boy who, in my time as manager, has given the football club everything'
    Yes, including his middle finger.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Didn't Owner Hargreaves have a video of him running at that? Don't they all try and play down their injury situations?

    ReplyDelete
  37. How many of those are even eighteen? How can you be sick of Rodgers not playing lads that have only just got in the under twenty ones?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Berehinho has the same agent as Sterling. Not with a barge pole.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He has done a good job in the prem.

    ReplyDelete
  40. He is on a free and so we probably would not lose if he did not do so well, but could be a bargain if he does. Win/win

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yes but it is odd since he had a stellar world cup between his injuries?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Are you still being sarcastic btw?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think you will find they both play in the premier league though they do play for different teams.

    ReplyDelete
  44. What were his parents thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yep it's all BR's fault the FFP rules are being relaxed. What was he thinking of when he decided to do that? #BROUT

    ReplyDelete
  46. Now the owners will have to find another excuse to not pay wages that reflect the club's standing as the eighth wealthiest football club in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, its all down to BR that UEFA are changing the rules.

Nothing at all to do with the fact that both owners of Inter Milan and Milan have been struggling to sell their clubs and the owners of other European clubs have been talking in Platini

    ReplyDelete
  48. As long as he's only a second-change player.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Your misunderstand the whole wealthiest thing.

Liverpool Football may be the 8th in the world in regards to income but it doesn't take expenditure into account.

Last year was the first time in 7 years that the club actually made any money, and were only talking about a few million.

So yeah.. next time you criticise the owners who so far have done an amazing job considering what they had to start with, do a little bit more research first.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Its looking like he could cost us up to 8 mil, still relative cheap mind you

    ReplyDelete
  51. As has Jonjo Shelvey, and Santi Mina in La Liga, and Jose Callejon in Serie A, but we wouldn't go for any of them...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sorry but he has been having injury problems for 18 months now.

We already have one sick note, we do not need another.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It just sounds a lot like the Aspas logic to me.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sorry, but you're going to have to quantify what you mean by "amazing job". If you mean profit, then we disagree on the raison d'être of a football club. If you mean we're no longer facing administration, that's par for the course for club owners.

Also you need to point out what research you did that you think I haven't done, otherwise you unintentionally come off as being rather rude.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Apart from the fact that Ings has already played in the and still scored goals in a team that was related.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Both of them are decent players, but we need better than just decent. We need genuine strength in depth with nobody too comfortable about their position as top dog.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Keep in mind two things:

    1. We are 8th most valuable, however the current top 4 are all ahead of us in value. So 5 of the 8 most valuable teams in the world are in the prem.

    2. The gap between us at 8th and Arsenal at 7th is about 350m.

In other words, based upon value of the club alone, we are right where we should be: 5th in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  58. What do I mean amazing job,,

Lets see, they have made a number of commercial deal (some of which are records for our club) that has for the first time put in the club into the black for the first time in 7 years, they have started work expanding the stadium, something which needed doing over 10 years ago and have given both BR and KD hundreds of million of pounds to spend in the transfer market.

What more do you want them to do?

Also as for being rude, your comment about being the 8th wealthiest club either proves you did no research, just chose to ignore the facts, or you have no understanding how a business works, you chose.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Decent players.. no Danny Ings is a far better player then Aspas.

Aspas failed on a massive scale in the Prem, Ings has scored lots of goals.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I personally would of like to seen Jonjo stay at Liverpool... maybe that is just me.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm all for the top dog bit

    ReplyDelete
  62. I actually prefer Austin. There is just something I really like about him. To score 17 goals for a team that has been relegated shows me that the lad never gives up.

As for Berahino, I agree he is very good but I can see him doing a sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Until we are waiting for the end season talk between Rodgers and the owners somebody will catch Konoplyanka and/or Ayew, It is almost unbelieveble negligance to ignore those 2 guys who are free and publicly declared they want to play for us.

    ReplyDelete
  64. How about giving KD and BR hundreds of millions of pounds to spend without them needing to sell their star players? How about 'competing with the Barcelonas' for players as per their promise when they took over?

How about reducing ticket prices so that more actual supporters can watch their team? They're not the devil, but they're not Gabriel. I see no reason for them to be either 'the worst possible owners' or 'the best possible owners'.

Of course they're better than H and G. That's not "amazing", per se. Babel was better for us than Carroll.

I see you still haven't mentioned what research. I'll help you. Do you mean reading the financial reports? Reading every possible interview with the owners? Following the FFP narrative from the time it was publicly mooted? Reviewed books about money in footballl? Number crunched transfer fees and wages in as far as they are in the public domain? Worked at a top-level football club? Got paid to provide business intelligence for some of the biggest and some of the smallest business entities in the world? Read about NESV before they became FSG? Know what Tom Werner studied and where? Familiarised myself with their tenure at Red Sox and NESV's rise to wealth? Maybe you mean follow Henry's Twitter handle. How many of those have you done and how many of those have I done?

Sorry, but you still come across as rude.

    ReplyDelete
  65. That I don't disagree with. I'm just not a fan of slashing wage bills by dumping experienced staff, in any business.

Before last summer, BR publicly pleaded with the owners for 'one or two' top players instead of many squad-fillers. We all know how it panned out. That sort of thing can't have made our manager too happy, either.

    ReplyDelete
  66. You've got that Spot nailed.

    ReplyDelete
  67. We'll just have to agree to disagree on their respective qualities.

  88. The Mercenary i don't know what to say .......

    ReplyDelete
  89. We all know something has to change. If not the manager, then the transfer comitee. They are throwed last summer most of owners money through the window. So who can dcide about urgent free transfers like Konoplyanka or Ayew?

    ReplyDelete
  90. It looks as though Eduardo Salvio's agent has been in Liverpool meating club officials if rumours are to be believed... You could also gleen from this that Sterling is definately going seeing as Salvio would be the replacement.... But rumuors are rumours....

    ReplyDelete
  91. Lallana, Carroll, Downing, Enrique, Cole, Downing, Lambert, Balotelli, Allen, Adam, Konchesky, Johnson, Keane etc etc have all played in the EPL.

Now go work out how much money was spent in total on these players.

Now I have left out the likes of Sturridge and Hendo but majority rules.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Good point. Also what occurred to me the other day was that teams are not parking the bus against Burnley. He may have done well but not against resolute teams. That is neay every team he would face for us and he hasn't owed enough without that blockade to suggest he would be a success. So I have come full circle le and doubt he should be signed.

    ReplyDelete
  98. He is not.the first. How has RVP been? injured wise this season? He was injured end of last and near all this.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yh right. Did u see the game against ghana. Where the ghanian pace and athletism ruled the day. He's over rated and injury prone. If u have time check out this kid afriyie acquah parma/mochenglaBach. Perfect addition to our midfield imo.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Precisely what I've been saying. Milner is not an upgrade on any one at lfc at the moment.
Not better than ibe sterling or coutinho. We need players better than our current crop.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Firstly, we know we needed to fill out the squad simply due to the increase in number of games.

Secondly, we were in it for Sanchez but he rejected us for London.

What I'm curious to know is who else we were in for after Sanchez rejected us

  105. That was unexpected! I'm thinking along similar lines. I have nothing against us signing Ings, but with Origi and Sinclair as our young strikers I think we need somebody better to slot in ahead of them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Downing was bad enough the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yeah I have been in favour of Ings as a signing but then sometimes you have to reevaluate if you see things in a way you haven't previously.

    ReplyDelete
