Agent Confirms: 'Liverpool are interested' in signing €6m powerhouse who's 'inspired by Michael Essien'

In February, multiple reports claimed that Liverpool were interested in signing Cagliari starlet Godfred Donsah, and the Ghanaian's agent has now confirmed that the Reds are tracking the coveted midfielder.

When asked on Thursday about transfer interest from the Premier League, Donsah's agent, Oliver Arthur, told reporters:

“Arsenal, [Manchester] City and Liverpool are interested [in Donsah], but there’s nothing official.”

Some info about €6m-rated Donsah:

* 18-year old defensive midfielder, who can also play at right back.

* 23 appearances for Cagliari (2 goals/1 assist).

* Nicknamed the 'new Michael Essien'.

* Donsah is also a huge fan of Essien, and in a recent interview, he raved: "I am inspired by Michael Essien. He is my role model"

* Seemingly interested in a move to Man City, and he confirmed this in February: “I am happy to be targeted by Manchester City. But I feel good at Cagliari – we are doing well"

* After a tough upbringing in Ghana, Donsah - unlike many of the raging mercenaries that blight football - has his feet firmly on the ground.

Indeed, in a recent interview, he mused: "I've always been ready to work, as I know that I have to eat and look after my family. I'm very careful and will only buy myself a nice car after my career is finished.”

Liverpool may be interested, but Donsah is a self-confessed Chelsea fan, and he confirmed this in April, when he told GhanaSoccernet:

"My mother would give me money every now and then, about €2, to see the games at a local bar. That's how I started supporting Chelsea and my idol Michael Essien. I have his jersey.”

Right now, Liverpool's clear priority is - or should be - the recruitment of older, experienced players capable of coming straight into the team and making an immediate impact.

Enough with the untested teenagers already.

  2. KK would be ready for the job any day, provided he is approached by the FSG.

  3. Lets see if B R plays Sterling Sunday- Shanks Paisley Clough Mourinhio definately would not SO B R will = Stoke 2 Liverpool 0

  4. Kenny is my all time favourite sportsman and footballing hero but do we really feel he is right for the Liverpool job?

Regarding the article I would like to see us linked with players who can compete for a first team place and not more potential. Sort the first team then you can look at the future.

  5. Totally agree! We have enough prospects and no proven quality. We seriously need proven quality and experience as we lack a backbone within the team

  6. The lad in the video has a talent & looks strong.I feel that the teams who have beaten us this season have had a better physical/mental effect on us & that's I why we lost so many games. We have a talented team but lack the physical presence when it matters in all areas of the pitch. We need players with a mixture of steel (presence on the pitch) skill and of course determination when playing for LFC.

  7. No thanks...no more teenagers.

  9. Wow, comments are real quiet tonight......am I missing something..?

...has kate upton decided to strip on live tv or something.....?!?

...anyhow, anyone interested in watching the cat released among the pigeons will sit back in wonder in the backlash about to happen given recent views on this forum....

....Brendan Rodgers 150% certain to keep his job......

...wind up sit back fold arms watch it go off.......

  10. Can't say I've noticed this lad. I had a look at a couple of Cagliari games in the first half of the season for the Zeman factor, but since the turn of the year I've only really seen them when they've been on the receiving end of defeats.

  11. Lucas is one of our more aggressive players and he is the only one in our team who like a tackle and he is good at that too, i think he is on top of the list in the league with most tackles made per game.
Our team is already too soft, so we should keep him unless we are buying better replacement.
Allen is one of the worst signings made by Brendan and i don't remember him having more than 2 or 3 good games for us in his whole career with Liverpool. I don't see what Brendan sees in him because he is one midfielder which should be replaced first as he offers us nothing going forward and neither he is good at shielding the defence.

  12. If we want to improve, Lucas cant stay.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Only Skrtel and they've been trying to replace him for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  14. They are, like they've been trying to do with Skrtel.

    All on CL money.

We've been gutting the roster of high earners for years now.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'd get rid of both in an ideal world. Lucas is... okay, Allen is just crap, but since we seem to aspire to being a mid table team, keep the one on the lowest wages.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lucas is on CL money, so he's gone.

    FSG like the cheap wages.

  17. "experienced players capable of coming straight into the team" cost $30 million and u might end up again with Balotelli. Go get this guy. He is very very good

    ReplyDelete
  18. ... and players worth a damn won't sign contracts longer than three years and load them with get out clauses. Also discourages players from coming in the first place.
Rodgers needs to learn when to keep his mouth shut. He's fooling nobody. If Sterling wants out this summer, he's gone, regardless of what Rodgers or Henry say.

  19. Did you catch up with the Kate Upton stripshow in the end wow;-)y

  20. Absolutely right. We need two good defensive midfielders, and Lucas is one. To be honest it's this kind of thing that turns my head wards Klopp and Ancelotti.

The problem with Liverpool at the moment is we've started to settle for average players, and when that happens, you turn into an average team.

And anyone who thinks Allen is better than Lucas isn't a full shilling

    ReplyDelete
  22. shown strength to who?, only lower clubs are targeting our mediocre players, do you see any top top players in our squad? except coutinho.

    TOTALLY agree

    ReplyDelete
  25. At this point in Lucas's career being a squad player is the last thing he'd want.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lucas has served us well, injuries & his legs are perhaps showing, but to think Allen is more dynamic, well that says it all,he s a squad player at best who would suit mid table team, brings f... all to the table for me,i think Can should be deployed in midfield ,has a huge engine ,is strong & pass rate is excellent.i expect him to have a great next season & could be the real successor to Stevie..

    ReplyDelete
  27. If we got Vidal there would be no problems but to get rid of Lucas that would be STUPID he is a defensive mid and Alan well Alan ? is just a midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes if played in his TRUE position ?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Don't know about dynamic but yes.

I personally would sell both but definately Allen before Lucas, Allen along with Ballo, Lambert, Markovic, Lovren and Lallana are serious mid table players and don't have any room for improvement.
Sterling i would sell in a heartbeat, cause i am so sick of people making excuses up for him he does not want to play for us so piss him off.

P155 off you fool..... So by that logic we can no longer appreciate our heroes while we were kids.... Barnes could still walk into this LFC team now, without any problem....If and when you grow up, you may get that....

lucas not flashy enough? What do you want a defensive player or an allrounder.BR is so attack minded. that is why we are leaking goals

  41. Sell both of them. They contribute absolutely NOTHING. If you can't get any money for them - who would pay? - then just give them away.

  49. And the hair. And the Predator boots. :) I loved his effort and stamina but when I was a kid I only wanted to be these players in this order: Barnes, Rush, King Kenny, Souness and Hansen but in reality it could of been any of 'em from that era because we were so great and every player seemed to be the best in their position in the country.
Ghost writers have their place but it takes a real star to bring their words to life. :) and I was thinking of 'World in Motion" or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Your dad is obviously a man of great knowledge and taste. I'm 40 and I haven't seen a player who comes close to him in the modern era aside from the 2 obvious ones in Spain.
I genuinely believe that had he been a player today he would be held in the same regard as them.
How old are you and who's your favourite?

  51. There is a difference between living in the past and fondly remembering something positive.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I must say, this is also the thought that keeps me waking up in a sweat. That and these "special interest magazines I got from Amsterdam".

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love the use of the adjective athletic in football terms on tv. It seems to only be used when referring to big strong black players :) and I agree that we certainly need a midfield enforcer. The more "athletic" the better!! However, whenever I see Souness on Sky, I'm convinced he could still do a job in midfield. The man just has the eyes and steely determination of a guy that doesn't get messed around by anyone. I can imagine him and Roy Keane having framed pics of one another in their houses :)

  54. Almost broke his own just trying to control the ball!

  55. I would love to see Matuidi from PSG but it ain't gonna happen.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Being completely honest you're right. There has being a conveyor belt of these types of players from Africa. France definitely utilised this in the 1990s. As you say the athletic tag shouldn't be used exclusively for black players. Monster Macherano, Matic, Schneiderlin are great examples of non blacks making that role their own.

To anyone reading who doesn't know about Zeman, check him out. A great manager who has put together some very entertaining sides over the years.
