Massive News: 'Unstoppable' £25m goal-machine has 'reached agreement' to sign for Liverpool rivals Man United. Curtains for Rodgers?

Like Fabio Borini's inability to score goals, and Brendan Rodgers' risible propensity for exaggerated praise, Liverpool's failure to land Memphis Depay is as inevitable as it is disappointing. As expected, Manchester United have beaten the Reds to Depay's signature, and the 'unstoppable' attacker has all but confirmed that Louis Van Gaal's status is the main reason he rejected the Reds for Old Trafford.

Earlier today, Man Utd released the following statement on the club's official website:

"Manchester United has reached agreement with PSV Eindhoven and Memphis Depay for the player's transfer subject to a medical, once the transfer window opens in June"

Soon after, Depay - who will reportedly cost £25m [€34m] - took part in a Q and A with his representatives, SEG Football, and revealed three reasons why he decided to sign for the Mancs:

* United's status as a 'dream club'.

* The attraction of his 'Dutch teammates', and all the other 'great players' at Old Trafford.

* The chance to 'work with manager Louis van Gaal again', which Depay described as a 'big bonus.’

* Depay also added: "In the end it was just a matter of feeling, not a matter of money".

Once again, the Van Gaal factor - which I warned about before the season even started - has played another big part in putting the kibosh on Liverpool's chances of maintaining a top-four place.

To add insult to injury, United have overhauled a 20-point gap to overtake Liverpool this season, and they've done so with one of the club's worst teams in years.

Add Depay into the mix, and things look even bleaker for Liverpool's Champions League chances next season.

To be honest, I doubt many Reds fans seriously believed that Liverpool could seal this deal, but it's still a blow for the club, and continues the ongoing negative trend of failure to attract top-class players.

All in all, Liverpool's situation right now is pretty desperate, and the unfortunate truth is this:

* No Champions League + comparatively unknown manager = failure to sign proven quality star players.

* Champions League qualification + comparatively unknown manager = failure to sign proven quality star players.

Replacing Rodgers is the only possible change that will make a difference to Liverpool's ability to attract the best, and as much as I'm in favour of giving the manager another year, the following points need to be considered:

* Liverpool qualified for the Champions League last season, then wasted £120m on the wrong players.

* This has directly led to regression this season, to the extent that the team will (in all probability) miss out on the top four.

* With no Champions League football, there's practically no chance of signing the players needed to take Liverpool to the 'next level'.

* That possibly means more young players coming to the club, and further regression next season.

* Meanwhile, Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal, and Man City will inevitably strengthen with big-money signings, making it even more difficult for Liverpool to compete.

Liverpool *cannot* move forward without the presence of elite players in the team, and I have no confidence that Rodgers will get it right in the upcoming transfer market.

As this season (arguably) proves, the likes of Lallana, Markovic, Origi et al are not going to get the job done, and given Rodgers' track record, fans can probably expect another influx of substandard dross over the summer.

From 2010-2014, Liverpool missed out the Champions League FOUR YEARS in a row, and after this season's resounding failure, there's a very real possibility that history will repeat itself.

That can't be allowed to happen, which is why the club has to seriously consider managerial change this summer. To that end, FSG need to consider the following questions:

* Can Rodgers be trusted to spend the club's transfer funds wisely? (i.e. on players who will manifestly help the team progress).

* Did Rodgers spend Liverpool's transfer funds wisely last summer, and did he get the best out of his signings during the current season?

* Overall, is the manager capable of getting the best out of the current squad, and any new players that arrive?

* Is Rodgers capable of galvanising the team to the extent that Liverpool can overtake Man United next season and maintain a top-four place?

If the answer to these four questions is NO, then, in my view, Rodgers needs to be replaced.

  1. LVG went to see him personally to seal the deal. We sent Ayre, can't blame him really.

  2. Bummer. Now I'm going to have to get my Depay tattoo removed. I guess I *did* jump the gun a bit.

  3. Based on transfers alone, BR needs to go. Simple.

  4. Yup been saying the same thing.

  5. BR or LVG what a tough choice?

  6. Our only option buy cheap unproven talent in the bulk and hope we get lucky and get someone who is near world class (cause we will never get word class) and after he reaches that level we have to hope that he’ll want to stay with the grossly low salaries we can afford to pay.

    ReplyDelete
  7. But.....how could anyone with a pulse resist Ayre, with his curves seductively squeezed into leather motorcycle pants?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Or could get a class manager like Klopp or Rafa....so that atleast one class player signs for us.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I completely agree with you Jaimie. Also FSG have to take a big part of the blame too . They didn't bring in an inexperienced manager for no reason . Less wages and who will happily go along with the rules of buying in relatively unknown young talent and tight wage structure hence playing a big part as to why top stars aren't coming to us.I don't think Rodgers decides on his own which players to bring in either . I think FSG are more about bringing in as many Young maybe big stars in the future type players in the hope they can sell them on for big buck in the future . The top 4 will pull away from us

  10. On the plus side I now fancy our chances to sign Boateng;-)

    * Can Rodgers be trusted to spend the club's transfer funds wisely? (i.e. on players who will manifestly help the team progress).

Certainly not. He has wasted over 200 million of funds.

    * Did Rodgers spend Liverpool's transfer funds wisely last summer, and did he get the best out of his signings during the current season?

    Big NO.
90% of his signings from last summer have been abject failures.
    few Examples:
Lallana - LFC clearly overpaid for Lallana who cost us 25 million. After one good season at Southampton he was at most worth 10-14 million. BR was after him throughout the last summer as if he was some kind of a messiah and would dramatically change LFC's season in a whisker . This guy is an injury prone small club mentality chap who is not cut for the top 4 club or the European competition. He has made zero difference to LFC's position since his arrival. One can have a good laugh at the fact that Fabregas cost Chelsea the same amount of money.

Balotelli - Never suited to LFC or new found BR's philosophy.Rich spoilt Brat who is more of a problem than a solution to LFC's problems. It surprises me when someone brings Balotelli to replace the speed , strength , guile and work rate of Suarez.

Markovic - Still an amateur learning his craft.

Lovren - Let's stats do the talking. I don't know if BR picked the wrong guy or mismanaged him. But this guy has been a liability at the defense whole season.

Manquillo - This trick didn't work

Lambert - He seems like enjoying his pension fund.

I have just touched upon the last summer's signings.

    * Overall, is the manager capable of getting the best out of the current squad, and any new players that arrive?

    I repeat :
Suarez was Volcano waiting to be unleashed. And those who think BR developed him haven't seen him play for PSV and Uruguay National team.
Suarez rubbed his brilliance on the likes of Sturridge and Henderson.
If BR is so good at developing or persisting talent , then what happened to the likes of Lallana, Lovren and Lambert who had a fine season at Southampton and almost miraculously seem to forget their craft after arriving at Anfiled with Brendon at helm. Markovic was also having a fine season at Benfica.
    I think this self explanatory.

    * Is Rodgers capable of galvanising the team to the extent that Liverpool can overtake Man United next season and maintain a top-four place?

I see Manu challenging for title next season, while for LFC pulling a top four finish would be an uphill task.

  12. Yep this marks the beginning of a very bleak transfer spree. Truth is no one is buying into Brendan's philosophy, like I've said unless you do a Wenger & find a Viera or Petit then we're finished. Our transfer activities are average and leave no hope of achieving top 4 status. I look at Markovic & think why? The things you can do with £20mill. I see our forward line and think $#*! £ absolutely tripe.
To top things of the ol' enemy have gone about things in a methodical way. They realised that this no pedigree manager thing isn't working. Let's bring someone in someone with experience whilst we rebuild. We bought in Rodgers philosophy & he has shown he cannot be trusted with funds. No Klopp, to big a risk. Benitez for 2-3 seasons just to put us back on the map of global football.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The problem is we even get beaten by the likes of Tottenham, Swansea and S'ton let alone the top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That would only be effective if done immediately delaying that decision only weakens what BR's replacement can do in the current transfer window. However I think even a new manager in this window would manage a marquee signing (or even a half decent one.. Not like the shit BR's usually does) here's why -
Payers would look for stability and a sacked manager leading the news about the club doesn't inspire confidence.
The current transfer policy and transfer panel are at fault as well they need revision.. Their policy must change .

    ReplyDelete
  15. Look at the top 4 team managers
    Manure- LVG
    Man city - Pelligrini
    Chelsea - Mourinho
    Arsenal - Wenger
How are any top players ever going to sign for our self proclaimed tactical genius?

  17. How will replacing RODGERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

    1) We have the 5th highest wage bill , which is not good enough
would a new man be given that extra 30m on wages needed to compete with Man united

    2) Our global reputation -
would a new man instantly rid of the mediocrity lfc have faced in last 26 years?
These Players grew up watching lfc struggle , Depay would never have seen us in our heyday as would all other 20-25 year olds .
While Chelsea and united have been on global stage as top digs in thoose PLAYERS LIFETIME

    3) Who is that new man?
there is not one better manager that is willing to join
Klopp would not join a club operating on simmilar philosophy to Dourtmund
Da Boer is struggling at Ajax

    ReplyDelete
  18. We are "5th highest wage bill" and still couldn't beat Aston Villa wonder why though?

    maybe they should be sacked

Brendon Rodgers is a non-existent entity in Europe. And If I were a European Soccer star I would never consider working for him when
    - LFC has nothing to offer(no CL,no medals or silverwares)
    - No known/star player with a stature to learn and hone my skills (when only star *Stevie G is leaving too).
-A manager who is amateur at his craft and is coming from a poor season

    2) FSG sell up
they realize that Liverpool without cl is not a commodity for them and sell to an Arab or Russian

  60. Don't think united will be challenging next season, no matter who they get, they've been so lucky this year that we've been really lame otherwise LVG could've been facing a lot of tougher questions at the end of this season. United have lost their aura without fergie while Mourinho and Abramovich remain at Chelsea I can see them being dominant in this league for the near future. Arsenal will be a force now they got a ton of cash and CL qualification 18 years on the bounce to attract the top players. How long LVG will stay in a job when united start to go years without trophies and the british press start getting under his skin about the money he's spent.

    ReplyDelete
  61. A Dutch player signing for a Dutch Manager of a team containing many Dutch players, Rocket Science not.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm not eager to sack Rodgers by any means, but if Klopp is willing to take the job, I'd make the change. I think the most damning indictment on Rodgers is that in 3 years we're yet to develop a recognisable style of play.

The Villa game and its seven or eight tactical permutations spoke to a man who is yet to understand what he really wants from his team.

When we bought Markovic, Can, Moreno I thought it signaled a solidification of the fast, young, vibrant counter-attacking team of the year before (seemingly built in the image of Klopp's Dortmund) but signings like Balotelli seem to either suggest a schism between the Transfer Committee and Rodgers or a lack of direction.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes it will change to 3 if English clubs don't start regularly doing better in the CL competition.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree. If he can decline working with DoF, he has a defining say on transfers. How convenient, when things are going well it's down to Brendan. When things aren't going well, he doesn't have sole control.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Enlighten me please how united sealed this transfer when an PSV official publicly confirmed LFC are ahead of united? My impression: NEGLIGENCE

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm sorry but this is just not true.
English teams regularly top their group tables and the worst united team in a long time went to quarter finals. That's just unimaginable when you got 4 absolute powerhouses in your league.

    ReplyDelete
  67. He said he wouldn't work under a DoF. He has said he has final say over the transfers but if the TC come to him and say "We missed out on Sanchez- it's Balotelli or Eto'o" he doesn't have a great deal of choice does he?

He does have to take blame for Lovren, Lambert and Lallana though who were definitely his signings.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Whats the point in buying players like Can and Markovic if they are only going to play in defense? Where is BR's man management skills? Who the f calls him tactical genius? Did he ever play Borini as a striker? Why did he buy him? Why did he buy Lambert? Balotelli's best games was his debut against spurs, why play him as a lone striker then? Why play Gerrard as DM when everyone knows he will be found out? Why BR is so pi$$ poor against big clubs? If defending is so easy to coach than why we have struggled defending despite spending 70+mn in defense? He keeps saying that Gerrard's playing should be managed but as soon as Gerrard is fit and available, he plays 90min of almost every match (until very recently)? Why not develop Can as a DM? Why pressurize 20 year old Markovic to play in a position he never playes? Young guy, new country, new language, big money signing pressure and play him as a wing back? Seriously why Is BR still at Liverpool?

    I agree to some extent.
    - Chelsea would only grow stronger.
    - Man City might have a shaky start even if they get the very best manager for the job. But with a bench strength like their's it won't be long they start aiming for the summit again.
    - Arsenal is slowly becoming a force to reckon with. But it depends on the number of quality additions they do to their key areas. Striker and few recruitment to the defensive line-up.But I still doubt if there will be smooth ride considering the shaky seasons Arsenal had in the last decade with Wenger at the helm. Once they get derailed, they take surprisingly high time to get back to the track.
    - As far as LVG is concerned , I think he is a wise man with a strong work ethic. With money and CL football at his disposal after the first season at helm , he will only get better and seasoned at managing the devils.
    - In my honest opinion Ronald Koeman's Southampton and Mauricio Pochettino 's Spurs would present a genuine fight for the 4th spot.
    - Add Gary Monk's Swansea to the above list if they manage to find a good replacement for Bony.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yet LVG will mostly likely get Man Utd back the CL in his 1st year which is all that matters.

When you take into account the sheer financial strength of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal, the fact that each of these clubs are consistently in the CL every year and that these clubs are winning trophies or in finals consistently then of course they will attract the best players in the world.

I might hate the fact that we will mostly finish 5th but we are in the same position of Spurs,

    b) Rodgers has *never* stated that the 'transfer committee is behind the signings' - he has acknowledged the role of the committee in assessing players, but he has never relinquished responsibility for transfers.

You need to get your facts straight, and stop parroting the media.

    ReplyDelete
  98. HIs job is to manage and not fight with reporters or explain every move he does. Correct?

    ReplyDelete
  99. I actually do not believe the players we have signed are bad. I believe many of them are good signings.

Here is the the thing, get any other manager who has a proven track record of managing at the top and of winning trophies and do you believe we would of performed better this season with the same group of players?

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think that's the part of the job, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  101. With CL last season did we manage to attract any top top players? Top players need top manager and BR ain't one.

    ReplyDelete
  102. BR fails to get the best out of players by playing them either in a wrong position or in a formation they are not familiar with.

    ReplyDelete
  103. solitaryreaper8:19 pm, May 07, 2015

Unlike BR, a professional would pull out much better results from the same set of players.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Lovren -Leader, Lallana- top talent, Young Rickie

    ReplyDelete
  105. Part, yes, but not the most important thing. He is doing it very well and he says what needs to be said. Many time he said something and then that he will not discuss the subject in pubic which is correct way.

    ReplyDelete
  106. solitaryreaper8:20 pm, May 07, 2015

    exactly !

    ReplyDelete
  107. If you are suggesting that he is doing very well in terms of media interviews than I have nothing much to add here, apart from 'óutstanding'.

    ReplyDelete
  108. A typical response from your lot. No real engagement with the point. Like a bunch of babies throwing toys out of the pram.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Brendan Rodgers is the best man for the job, even he said so himself. And many fans will argue with you too that there are no better options than Brendan Rodgers :-0

    ReplyDelete
  110. : All points of view are welcome, but a lack of civility and courtesy will not be tolerated. Disagree with fellow fans/rival fans etc as vehemently and as passionately as you like, but do so in a civil manner. That means no belittlement, insults etc.

btw - are you his press/private secretary by any chance?
because I don't see any rational arguments there

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think we need a good bar fight followed by (another) few beers in order to remain civilised when talking about our beloved club...

    ReplyDelete
  113. Great, now I will take your words:

    a) If he has final say that means he does not chose targets and decides who will be bought. Correct? He just has the final say on what it is offered to him from transfer commite.

    b) You say "he has acknowledged the role of the committee in assessing players". So we aggree that he does not asses and chose players. Transfer commite does it and he just has the final say on what transfer commite asseses and offers him to chose from.

    Correct?

    ReplyDelete
  114. solitaryreaper8:25 pm, May 07, 2015

You didn't get the sarcasm there.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have said this time and time again but then have endless replies of long excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Common, you are being sarcastic now. Why this outstanding bothers you so much? Is it that important? Does your view about Rodgers depends on this? Please pay attention to more important facts.

    ReplyDelete

    I hate those yellow dentures

    ReplyDelete
  118. You honestly want to bring in the man who wanted to replace Alonso with Gareth Barry.please the man knows how to play in Europe but never got to grips with the premier league.BR needs replacing asap but not the draw bore man that people seem to have forgotten they were glad to see the back of.Klopp stick with BR or take a risk with another unknown quantity like we did with BR coz there's no chance of a world class manager.being romantic gets you nowhere in football.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I got the sarcasm. But you do want Rodgers out do you not? If so, I stand by my response.

    ReplyDelete
  120. No. 100% incorrect, and the total opposite of what Rodgers, Ayre, and Werner have publicly stated re the operation of the TC.

I do not have the time or the inclination to repeat myself on this issue once again. You need to educate yourself properly on this issue, then we'll talk.

    Start here:

    http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2014/06/debunking-lfc-myths-16-rodgers-final-say-transfers.html

    ReplyDelete
  121. While I agree with your opinion, we are completely out of touch with top transfer target and shewed transfer dealings.

    * We COULD have signed Sanchez if we wanted, do you think if United or City wanted to sign Sanchez, London would have played such a big part? I don't believe that for a second. We need to be flexible in certain situations and we could have simply offered him more money or we would have insisted on him being part of the Suarez deal. Any sound mind would think of a replacement before losing such a quality.

    * We had 120 m last summer to spend. We could have brought in practically anyone because of finishing second in the league and the Suarez factor, just thing of the reason Suarez signed in the first place which the man has confirmed: to play alongside Torres

    ReplyDelete
  122. How do you know that?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Jaimie, I get tired of repeating myseld too ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think I have mentioned enough facts in this single article alone.

    ReplyDelete
  125. solitaryreaper8:30 pm, May 07, 2015

It has nothing to do with him but the club I adore.
And he is no legend by any means as some deluded souls paint him to be.
An under-performing manager deserves an axe.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Well stop it then 'cos so do we

    ReplyDelete
  127. Why's my comment been deleted ... I can see how this is Rodgers fault we've been tracking and scouting the player for a long time, the club themselves said we were the front runners, Brendan gives the nod of doesn't and the comitee do the rest. If the player doesn't sign or we are sat penny pinching how is that the managers fault

    ReplyDelete
  128. You just replied to me.

    Thanks mate.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Is that a genuine question? Van Gaal gave him his chance in the Dutch national team. He has a well documented relationship with Van Gaal. The Dutch captain plays for United. But we can always just ignore the facts if you like and just blame Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Are you suggesting this transfer is a sign of Rodgers underperforming?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Wrong question. I was thinking something else. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  132. FFP isn't likely to effect us you need to be playing European football for that.

    ReplyDelete
  133. solitaryreaper8:37 pm, May 07, 2015

Nah.Blame it on me because I am handling the transfers.

    ReplyDelete
  134. FSG are either very daft or very clever.

I think they are very clever, sacking Rodgers now will make make things extremely difficult for them as they will be swamped by media and fans on who will be replacing 'the so called best man for the job'.

Three games to go mate. Three games.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Again - no engagement with the point. I see a pattern emerging..

    ReplyDelete
  136. solitaryreaper8:40 pm, May 07, 2015

and I see you repeating the same question

    ReplyDelete
  137. I aggree taht we need to educate.

So plese check then this article from 6 days ago where is clearly exlained who is the transfer commite and how it operates:

    http://www.espnfc.com/liverpool/story/2427430/brendan-rodgers-defends-liverpool-transfer-committee

Here is another article which explains who is involved:

    http://www.thisisanfield.com/2013/06/liverpool-fc-transfer-committee-explained/

Here is another example which shows the truth:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/brendan-rodgers-is-being-let-down-by-the-liverpool-transfer-committee--only-two-of-the-23-players-signed-since-he-joined-have-been-successes-9771143.html

    Are we educated now?

    ReplyDelete
  138. When did I repeat a question?

    ReplyDelete
  139. Me asking for Raf is a reflection on how low we've sunk. I'd have Raf back on a short term contract just to attract some decent signings. Who would you suggest? Eugene feel free to answer too.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Sorry but how can anybody criticise BR for wasting money on transfers then talk about bringing Rafa back? Rafa wasted a fortune on players bringing in some of the worst players I've ever seen in a red shirt, Voronin, Degan and Dossena to name 3. BR may have come to the end of the road but please let's not talk about Rafa like every transfer he made was a success.

    ReplyDelete
  141. &-It matters also how healthy the club is. Correct? Is it healthy to have 600M debt?

    ReplyDelete
  142. Penny pinching when we paid £20m for Markovic, £20m for Lovren and £25m for Lallana?

Players who have contributed just about F all this season with two being played at RWB etc.

    Penny pinching my arse.

    ReplyDelete
  143. solitaryreaper8:46 pm, May 07, 2015

    don't put another question mark.
Since you have arrived with a pre conceived notion that BR is innocent as a pie and a poor bunch of morons are illogically and shamelessly lambasting him for LFC's poor state of affairs and transfers (or will to pull out star signings), I don't see any point in arguing with you.Adios

    ReplyDelete
  144. You've literally just made my point for me. Ciao.

    ReplyDelete
  145. solitaryreaper8:52 pm, May 07, 2015

If you know you're correct , then why why you need to validate yourself here?
Ain't you against your own notions of logic?

    ReplyDelete
  146. It is blatantly clear BR is not good enough for the job & obvious that we can't attract a would class manager with a proven track record.so the only sensible option is Klopp.anybody else would be jumping out of the frying pan & into the fire.might as well stick BR at that point.klopp has admitted to being interested in the job.we need to be speaking to him YESTERDAY.gambling on another potential manager means more transition with no guarantees.possibly could get worse.

  148. Markovic was well over priced and is utter garbage, lallana's prior season justified the price tag but has been injured a lot and hasn't worked out hopefully next season he will have more influence and lovren looked a bag of nerves barring the 5 or 6 so hopefully he's finding his feet

    ReplyDelete
  149. "lallana's prior season justified the price tag"

    No.

    ReplyDelete
  150. For the most part his primary targets have been of the quality we demand but his backups when we fail to land them have been woeful for the most part

    ReplyDelete
  151. Although it is true that PL clubs top their groups regularly in UCL; It is not unimaginable to expect PL to just end up with 3 representatives after next season. If Juventus, Napoli and Fiorentina win their respective Semi-final legs and if the Italian clubs perform the same as English clubs next year, then it is entirely possible. More than the CL, it's the Europa League that is hurting the PL (In past 4 seasons only once have English teams made it to the QF).

  153. I was under the impression you had left? The purpose of this forum is debate. Your claim that I'm merely here for self-validation just because I propose a view different to yours shows how incapable you are of actual debate. I've made a statement, you responded with sarcasm. I asked you a direct question, you were evasive.

If you want to talk about self validation, I could quite easily point to the same three or four posters repeating the same tripe to each other on here constantly and brain washing themselves into believing their views are the be all and end all just because they are so self-validated by the agreement. I wouldnt do that though.

Can someone kick me in the balls because I need to be diverted to all my LFC misery? Lets go, line up and wind up. I just hate this feeling. Starting to feel like Newcastle.
How the h-ll are we going to get out of this and rise up with our current strategy. This is sadly going to take another bunch of years until we find another rough gem. Why do I get the feeling that in order for us to be successful, the odds are so long for that to shake out, that we need to be lucky for something to work out, as opposed to remembering that it seemed unlucky when we didn't win something.

We don't have any world class players anymore. And now that SG is gone, we don't even have him.

    ReplyDelete
  158. FSG have to learn from their mistakes too. If they do not get rid of Brendan then things are only going to get worse.

    ReplyDelete
  159. No 1. The debt has nothing to do with the Manager,

    No.2 Utd's debts is currently at 395mil

No 3. Their revenue for last year was 433.2 mil

No 4. Manchester Utd are easily able to service their debt whilst being able to spend millions upon millions in players transfers and wages as has been proven over the last 10 years.

Believe me, it would take quite a few years out of the CL and finishing the out of the top 4 before Utd debt became a concern.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Unfortunately it does as it applies to any club in the CL and Europa League

    ReplyDelete
  161. The only caveat would be if the manager they replace him with has a proven track record otherwise it would pointless

    ReplyDelete
  162. I'm not talking about that pal, my point was Rafa wasted a fortune on transfers bringing in players every bit as bad as any of BR signings. We can't surely criticise BR over transfers, then talk about bringing Rafa back like he never made a mistake with his transfers.

    ReplyDelete
  163. My opinion, to enhance and maximize the fee.

    ReplyDelete
  164. If you only want Rafa brought back on a short term contract because of the players he can attract, those players would only be coming because of Rafa so would be unlikely to come because he's only on a short term contract.

    ReplyDelete
  165. If he didn't want Balotelli or Eto'o, he could have said "no" but then he could well have ended up with no-one and the proof that could happen is in his first season when he sold Carroll and ended up with no-one to replace him. It has also been suggested by James Pearce and Tony Barrett (people with clear intel coming from inside the club) that Rodgers had to make do with Eto'o or Balotelli and that the TC didn't have a clear back-up to Sanchez.

As is so often the case you've expressed a simple differing of opinions in a smug self-aggrandising way by implying that I "cling" to this narrative to excuse Rodgers. If you'd read my other post you'd see that I think Rodgers should be replaced by Klopp.

You are perfectly happy to disregard direct quotes when it serves your point but when someone else tries to 'read between the lines' then they're always ignoring the obvious or have their head in the sand according to you.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Wrong, if Juventus win the CL or get to the final, and either Napoli or Fiorentina Win Europa league, EPL will lose one CL spot 2017/2018.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Unless next season EPL teams do very well, and reach the closing stages.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Well if it is simple I'm sure Messi will be coming in this summer.

If it's simple I'm sure that if Rodgers (or the TC) come up with a target, we'll easily get them.

Just like with Willian, Diego Costa, Mkhitaryan, Sanchez and Depay.

    ReplyDelete
  169. You have to include the British factor and the fact he had done it in the prem

    ReplyDelete
  170. Mate, getting rid of the PR disaster alone in return for someone who is going to do the same job if not better is already a step in the right direction.

You cannot tell me that even Martinez would do worse than Rodgers. At least he will not be full of continuous excuses.

Rodgers needs to go irrespective of who replaces him. It is not like FSG will replace Rodgers with another Hodgson. There are many good managers out there. I would have Bielsa any day of the week right now compared to Rodgers. At least we will have an identity on the pitch instead of seeing square pegs round holes every week in and out.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I agree with a lot of this. You're writing as if you're arguing with me. I myself have said I'm disappointed that he didn't develop a style and that the players bought seemed not to fit into a grand design.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Riijkard is retired. Bielsa has always proven a short-term option.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Had done it with Southampton.

Southampton have not struggled without Lovren, Lallana or Lambert have they?

Plus they made new signings and appointed a new manager.

There is no room for excuses I am afraid. We massively overpaid for Lallana and Lovren. End of.

    ReplyDelete
  174. B R must make top 4 or fans will walk - too much talking - nearly man - LFC must try and get a new Chairman -what the hell does he do - Under 21 lost

    ReplyDelete
  175. Lets say for arguments say that what you say is true (though I don't buy it at all).

Why does he have the courage to just say NO. Why not tell the TC that he does not like any of their offers.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I don't understand why anybody even thought he was coming to LFC. All the years watching the sport and they haven't figured out how clubs and agents use the press to drive up fees and wages? Stop being sheep, he was never coming to LFC no point in blaming BR or anybody for that matter. He wanted to go to United and his team made it happen. Congrats to him.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Also, good to see Neto do a Brad Jones style dive in the wrong direction for Sevilla's second goal. He'll fit right in.

    ReplyDelete
  178. If we lose out on Depay, especially to Man U, to me that's the last straw.

    ReplyDelete
  179. The solution was simple, don't buy British. Only enough to pass the English players quota.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Nonsense. I wasn't even referring to you with my line about fans clinging on to excuses.

Also, I didn't say you were wrong; I said there's no evidence to support the contention you made, which is my opinion on the issue.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  182. or is it the last straw that broke the camel's back?

    ReplyDelete
  183. Well he's got the hump

    ReplyDelete
  184. We have many young British players in our academy waiting for a chance to prove themselves yet spend £25m on Lallana and then it is not Rodgers fault for signing him.

And worst part is, Suso who I am not a massive fan of gets sold for a measly £1m to AC Milan? I guess it also was not Rodgers decision to let Suso go?

Looking at things now, I would have rather kept Suso. He may lack pace but would not have done any worse than Lallana this season. Problem is that Suso most likely would have been deployed as a RWB if he did stay.

This season needs to end with Rodgers being shown the door.

    ReplyDelete
  185. No, these are articles that constitute the opinion of article writers who have nothing to do with LFC.

I've provided you with direct quotes from Rodgers, Ayre, and Tom Werner, three people who actually work for LFC, and their views on the subject supersede the opinions of anyone else on the matter.

    * http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2014/06/debunking-lfc-myths-16-rodgers-final-say-transfers.html

    * http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2015/02/liverpool-fc-transfer-committee-members-revealed.html

Also, the ESPN article does not support your contention that the TC 'offers' Rodgers a list of players to choose from'. That is just not true, and that spurious myth has been debunked by Rodgers himself, as well as Ian Ayre.

You can keep banging this drum, but you're wrong. Sorry, but you are.

    ReplyDelete
  186. I suspected you'd say that weren't referring to me with that comment since you've done this before and then backed away from the comment. Imagine if I wrote

"There's no evidence to support what you're saying JK.

It's a theory that is very popular with sex offenders".

That's the same construction as your comment. The implication is very clear. If you weren't trying to lump me in with people who blindly support Rodgers, you should think about how you phrase your comments,

As I've said, whilst there is no direct evidence (and barring Rodgers running into a press conference and screaming "I didn't want these players" we're no going to get any) but there are plenty of hints that Rodgers gets players he doesn't particularly fancy, not least from people with sources inside the club.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Remi would have been better than Balotelli & Eto'o. Besides it's his responsibility there was no plan B post Sanchez. We spent half the season faffing about Bony, so no sympathy for BR.

    ReplyDelete
  188. When have you ever repeated yourself? I can't think of a single instance.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Do you really think that Rodgers was the one who pulled the plug on that deal? It reeks of the money men not wanting to take a risk on a player with medical issues.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I bet you cannot say the same about our manager. Brendan who?

    ReplyDelete
  191. He said he has the last say. How about Bony? I hold BR fully responsible for not lining up a replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  192. If that is the case they should urgently call LFC. Everybody knows we pay 20 m for the likes of Markovic.

    ReplyDelete
  193. According to Pearce and Barrett, Bony was Rodgers preference but the rest of the TC weren't interested. I don't blame them at £30m, to be honest.

He has the last say on whether players come in, but he likely doesn't have last say as to whether players don't join on medical grounds.

    ReplyDelete
  194. At the age of 52??
and we need that SHORT term option, united did it with LVG and they passed that crisis period.

    ReplyDelete
  195. It's inevitable managers will make mistakes in the transfer market. BR has wasted a huge amount of money but he's also tactically inept especially against the big boys. Mourinho hated Rafael because of it.

    ReplyDelete
