Liverpool starlet Sergi Canos is on fire Liverpool's youth teams this season, and after training with the senior squad at Melwood recently, the young attacker is determined to make the step-up to the first team.
After experiencing the first-class facilities at Liverpool's world-class training facility, Canos raved:
"It’s amazing to train here because it’s where the first team train every day...and that is an unbelievable feeling.
“This is a big chance for us...to step up to the first team and that is our motivation.”
In a recent interview with Spanish newspaper Sport, the 18-year old forward explained why he swapped Barcelona for Liverpool back in 2013:
“Liverpool offered me things at a sporting level that Barça didn’t. That is what I decided. I am searching for my dream. Every time I go to Anfield I get goosebumps seeing how the fans support Liverpool".
Liverpool's official website describes Canos as follows:
"[At Barcelona] he developed a keen eye for goal and an extensive passing repertoire. An attacking player, who can play on the right or as a No.9, Sergi can instigate and finish forward forays with equal potency".
Canos has 18 goals and 15 assists for the U18s/U21s this season, which is a formidable record, and with Jerome Sinclair also prolific this season with 20+ goals, Liverpool's future in the striker department seems to be looking good.
However, if Divock Origi arrives in the summer, and Liverpool bring in Luciano Vietto or Aleksandar Mitrovic (both of whom are currently linked with the Reds), it's hard to see how Canos and Sinclair will make the breakthrough.
The competition up-front is incredibly fierce, and the brutal reality is that Michael Owen is the last academy striker to make it through the academy to become a first-team regular, and that was 18 years ago (!)
That said, Rodgers' has a history of giving young players a chance, so Canos and Sinclair are arguably in the right place to seize any opportunities that may arise.

What about young U21 International Danny Ings also arriving ?
ReplyDeleteThank God not all kids are like Sterling - Liverpool F C must issue the following statement if they want to put this agent of Sterling in his place "STERLING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WILL NOT BE SOLD TO A LONDON CLUB - SIMPLE AS THAT = BUT NOTE THIS - THE KOP WANT HIM OUT - He is no longer one of us
ReplyDeleteClearly Sterling's agent has lead him astray !!!
ReplyDeleteAdam Morgan and Michael Ngoo were prolific as well. Didn't mean anything though.
ReplyDeleteSo true but these 2 show promise and thats something.
ReplyDeleteCanos often plays as a winger i dont see the arrival of Vietto or Origi stunting his chances.
ReplyDeleteAdam Morgan was one of the hand-picked boys of BR. BR absolutely raved about Morgan when he scored a poacher's goal in one the pre-season friendly. Robbie Fowler also added that Morgan is one the best finisher he has ever seen. I don't know what went wrong with him. He could hardly find a club to play for now. Pretty much the same thing for Ngoo.
ReplyDeleteThee key thing Canos lacks is pace
ReplyDeleteThat could be a detriment to him unless he improves his overall game like Suarez for example his innovation, dribbling, passing, hold up play and finishing
Exactly.
ReplyDeleteI am 100% sure they will not put in a transfer request as well because they want a part of the fee
Sell Sterling to City but insist on Milner and 2 more players in exchange
ReplyDeleteIn the place of Sterling ?
ReplyDeleteIf Liverpool can get 50m for Sterling they would be mad not to sell him !
ReplyDeleteI take issue with the contention that Liverpool has World class training facilities.
ReplyDeleteFor me they have not made enough of an impact on the European or World stage as yet be regarded as truly World class - . and they are English ;-)
He is playing regular first team football at a top club and performing at a level that is recognised by better footballing experts than us.
ReplyDeleteHe is just 20 and is European young player he chances are he is going to continue to develop and become a special player. We could sell him and replace him with a couple of good players but, as we showed with Suarez, special players are very difficult to replace and can make a real difference to a good team or even a great team
Lets not spend the next 6 months talking about CRYBABY STERLING =Sell him A S A P for £45 million BUT NEVER to a London Club - HE WILL HATE THE FACT THAT HE CANT GO TO LONDON - Thats why I love it
ReplyDeleteMake it £40M
ReplyDeleteI heard Melwood is ready to reject a new contract offer of upwards of 100K per week and is hankering after a move to London. All BR's fault of course, for his irresponsible, sycophantic overpraise of these 'outstanding' facilities.
ReplyDeleteSuarez and Sterling are light years apart .
ReplyDeleteCurrently about 865 miles apart, by my reckoning.
ReplyDeleteI have saw him numerous amounts, he is not slow at all.
ReplyDeleteI age and experience yes but Sterling has the potential.
ReplyDeleteYeah i know i think Ngoo pretty much was beating the other lads with athleticism but none the less all we can be grateful for is they show potential.
ReplyDeleteTo everyone have a safe and happy Easter break hope Easter is kind to you all!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLike I always say, you need a lot more than just ability to perform at the elite level of professional sport.
ReplyDeleteSuarez wasn't playing at Sterling's level when he was 20
ReplyDeleteAnd us fans fault for deifying the facilities...
ReplyDeleteOur Melwood, who art in heaven, Hendo'd be thy name...
Right now, our academy scene is really promising and that is hwy we have to spend smart. BR has not done that till now ( Alberto when we had Suso and Teixeira) or Illori when we had 5 centre backs. The talent is there. Rossiter and Williams look really good. Ibe has already made the step up and Ojo is excelling on loan. Brannagan has been linked with Barca which is not bad at all. Wilson is the youngest player to ever play for Wals. Then, there are players like Ryan Kent and Jerome Sinclair. If given a chance, it can progress fast.
ReplyDeletedon't worry he probably just looked at his fifa stats
ReplyDeleteMan I just can't stop getting tinder matches
ReplyDeleteCompetition upfront, What a lovely thought.
ReplyDeleteI hope Young Ibe is fit soon and taking Sterlings starting spot... While Sterling is still here...
ReplyDeleteSuperb! but we're gonna have to get an online petition and a couple of polls together and try run it out of town....
ReplyDeleteCan I get get change for a 50....
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Jack Dunn, I love this kid..
ReplyDeleteForgot Adam Phillips and Pedro Chirivella as well. Talent is there but has to meet opportunity.
ReplyDeleteone of us. one of us.
ReplyDeleteSuarez was good even when he was playing for Ajax, he just wasn't hyped as much as Sterling has been.
ReplyDeleteSo you got to work, your company has been saying all year that you are the number 1 employee, without you the company would be crap.
ReplyDeleteNext day the company gets a huge new contract raising their top end by upwards of 40%
You get called into the office that new contract is on the books .... they offer you less money than the company's previous #1's that have stopped performing?!?
Soooo you do all the work they pay others that don't do as much currently on 5 times more than you, then your offer is less than they are currently on, on top of all this, your boss writes to the local ragg to tell people you should be grateful for what your being offered, everyone gradually turning against you because you want a fair deal.
Luke Shaw reportedly on over 200k per week just based in him being England's left back for the next 10 years, who do you think is England's winger for the next ten years.
Be realistic, look at it like its your contract situation, forget the money you cant comprehend it, its not a factor in your live, it is in theirs all their friends are on silly money too.
He was playing at a far lower level and when he was 20 was still an unknown quantity
ReplyDeleteSamed Yesil
ReplyDeleteSuarez wasn't. He was way above RS level. He scored 20+ at 21 and was Ajax captain at 22 while scoring 35. That said I would not cavalierly sell him as he is comfortable in the side and that comfort isn't automatic is it...thinking Falcao here.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not in England but he was Ajax player of the year in 2006...plenty of hype there.
ReplyDeleteWhen he was 20 he was playing for Groningen where he scored 10 goals in 29 appearances. That's respectable but he wasn't at the level Sterling is now at the same age
ReplyDeleteI know it's Easter but you don't have to start your post with Thee. Thou art taking it too far
ReplyDeleteIt's been years since we've had that
ReplyDelete"You get called into the office and they offer you less money than the company's previous #1 player that has stopped playing for the club?!"
ReplyDeleteSurely you don't think Liverpool should've offered Raheem Sterling the same amount Suarez was on.LS was World Class.55 goals/assists in all competitions last season. That's why he got a big money move to Barcelona despite cann8bal offenses.
"Luke Shaw is reportedly on over 200k per week just based in him being England's left back for the next 10 years" I think Shaw is on closer to £120k, but even if your inflated wages were true.If Man Utd give players stupid wages should Liverpool automatically break our wage structure to match theirs?
Thanks dude in going Easter egg hunting tomorrow morning. Legs crossed until morning.
ReplyDeleteIt looks good even if most don't quite make it, ther's still enough ther to give us hope, and maybe ahealthy profit from those that don't quite make it...
ReplyDeleteI've seen Canos a couple of times and he looked good but I think Sterling and Ibe are the bench mark for me a he seems slightly behind them technically. Let's hope he is a selection problem for us.
ReplyDeleteNot in my club man u 're blind
ReplyDeleteThey wont be wanting their same contract stick him around the 110k 120k.
ReplyDeleteStuge will want his 40% too
We are not a poor club the players know this its the fans have a hard job understanding
