In a few hours, Liverpool face Blackburn in a game that could either save or sink the club's season, and after the defensive debacle against Arsenal, Reds legend John Aldridge has called for big Brendan Rodgers to drop several under-performing players.
In his column for the Liverpool Echo this week, Aldo noted:
"I expect Rodgers [to] make changes for Blackburn.
"Moreno [Cost: £12m] struggled badly against Arsenal. Toure and Lucas [£9m-rated] had poor games [and] Markovic [Cost: £20m] was hooked at half time.
"I wouldn’t be surprised to see Johnson brought in for this game".
I called for Moreno to be dropped against Arsenal, but Rodgers continues to play the Spaniard, despite the fact he seems to be responsible for an opposition goal every time he plays.
Lucas had an ineffective game at the Emirates, but I'd still have him in the team. The other alternative is Joe Allen, and a Hendo-Allen partnership just doesn't work.
Plus, with Gerrard and Skrtel out, the experience level in the team has taken a hit, and Lucas is one of the club's most experienced players.
Markovic is a no-brainer. For whatever reason, he just hasn't performed, and the £20m splurged over the summer is looking more and more like a major mistake with each passing game.
I'd like to see the following lineup for tonight's game:
-------------------- Mignolet
---- Flanagan ------- Lovren --------- Sakho
-- Manquillo ---- Lucas ---- Hendo ---- Johnson
------------- Balotelli -- Coutinho
------------------- Sturridge
Liverpool are trying to keep Sterling sweet, so I doubt he'll be dropped, but if Rodgers has the cojones to leave him out, it will send a big message.

if we lose... BR out!!
ReplyDeleteVoice of treason :)
ReplyDeleteBring back Rafa he will guarantee champion leauge football and buy good players unlike rogers who hasn't got a clue what his best team is Moreno just keeps making mistakes and rogers keeps on playing him and Allen what a waste of time and money he is rubbish player does nothink for the team but make mistakes but rogers won't drop his love child he must be Blowen him off in the changing rooms before games
ReplyDeletethe only person to blame for the current predicament is who then??
ReplyDeleteGreat team selection Aldo,i think if balo plays as a false 9 he will score and yes drop sterling he thinks he is bigger than the club.
ReplyDeleteyep you just have to look at how fearsome and strong Napoli look in serie a...
ReplyDeletei dont think moreno is bad the issue is no defensive coach so off course our defense is mess at times
ReplyDeletewill we see the 3-4-3 again or is there a surprise in store
ReplyDeleteFlanagan has not made the squad so you will have to put Johnson in your lineup.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, we should revert to a back 4, especially with Skrtel out.
ReplyDeletePlay Lovren and Sakho as CB.
I would build the partnership between Lovren and Sakho straight away. Both can play with the ball at their feet.
ReplyDeleteAnd what predicament is that then? We may miss out on CL but I believe Rodgers deserves one more season at least. A manager that came closest to the title for years IMO deserves some sort of loyalty
ReplyDeleteRafa's transfer record is also not something to brag either.
ReplyDeleteWill Rodgers have another good season like he did last time round without a player like Suarez?
ReplyDeletei kinda like your selection
ReplyDeleteBR has proven he is to stubborn, alienates players, and plays way to much favouritism, we should have never been in a place where we are outside of the CL but he insited on playing Rickie Lambert, Johnson, Gerrard, Allen and even Borini ahead of players like Lucas, Emre, Balotelli in the first half of the season our current predicament is all up to BR and his poor choices i'm sorry but from last season we've seen that BR is stubborn continuing playing Gerrard as the DM even after teams knowingly exploited this flaw sigh i do love the guy but in the real world results count not senitmentality
ReplyDeletehe could but i have lost hope in BR too much bad decisions
ReplyDeleteVoice of reason appears after we lose 2 games. Where was he when we were unbeaten for 3 months, winning nearly every game along the way.
ReplyDeleteBR a great young manager who will only get better. To get rid of him would be madness.
Nice to hear some logical thoughts
ReplyDeleteDepends of sturridge is injured as well for most of the season, whether new signings from this season do better next season and who we buy in the summer.
ReplyDeleteWould many managers have achieved the entertaining brand of footy BR did with Suarez last season. I doubt it.
Difference is with a manager like Mourinho or any other renowned manager, they would have signed someone else to immediately fill Suarez's void.
ReplyDeleteIf Sterling and Henderson leave at the start of next season then who will we sign to fill their void under Rodgers?
sometimes u have to say enough is enough i was here for the king kenny debacle too btw
ReplyDeletesterling (ibe/ojo) and henderson (emre/teixera???) can be replaced BR needs to suck it up and get a defensive coach or a quality assistant manager like how Rafa had Pako BR needs some quality help and he has to take it on the chin and get it done also i agree we should have gone and used the suarez money for a quality player example lacazzete or pedro but we bought players like lallana and rickie (to a lesser extent) who were not needed imo
ReplyDeleteIs every thread going to be like this? What is wrong with you people, let's have another discussion, please?!?
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. In about fifteen minutes time, when the teams are announced, there will be a discussion explosion.
ReplyDeletethe wheels have well and truly come off if thats your best team jk
ReplyDeleteRogers was brave to hang onto Suarez last season - FSG must have asked
ReplyDeleteRogers to GUARANTEE that he would play properly and not sulk if they
refused the Arsenal £40,000,001 offer and Rogers' reading of Suarez was
spot on
what this season has shown is that rodgers cant handle players once they reach a certain stage in progress ...almost like they need to move to reach the next level in there career
ReplyDeletemy team for tonight
ReplyDeletemanquillo lovren sako moreno
tino hendo can sterling
balo sturridge
442 balo more number 10
I fear it will be like 'player x is playing? Sack Brendan!'
ReplyDeleteTwitter meltdown...
ReplyDeleteLiverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Lovren, Sakho, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Moreno, Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge.
ReplyDeleteSubs: Jones, Toure, Lambert, Manquillo, Borini, Brannagan, Markovic.
Rodgers sticking with the same tactics. Get the chopping board out. It is going to get wild..
ReplyDeleteffs why on earth is he playing 3 4 2 1 with hendo at rwb again?
ReplyDeleteyou can't play a midfield of lucas and allen
with a bench that offers no goals there is no room for balo
ReplyDeleteYeah, looks like
ReplyDeleteMignolet
Johnson Lovren Sakho
Hendo Lucas Allen Moreno
Sterling Sturridge Coutinho
yep this would be perfect (but can is banned)
ReplyDeleteGot a bad feeling about this one
ReplyDeleteBalo is as good as gone.
ReplyDeletejust realised that
ReplyDeleteI am still hoping it is a diamond..
ReplyDeletelose tonight and rogers is
ReplyDeletebalo not even on the bench? what has he done this time?
ReplyDeleteNow that's a long term view if I've ever heard one
ReplyDeleteRodgers made the decision to sign him. He would be the best person to go ask.
ReplyDeletecan't see the sense of putting lucas an allen in midfield and hendo at rwb
ReplyDeleteMourinho would have been able to pay someone to fill Suarez's void.
ReplyDeleteSince the penalty debacle, he has not started a single game despite gaining some form and that is the final nail in his coffin.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a shame.
ReplyDeleteI hope that if the team sells him, they explain what happened this year with him.
ultra negative
ReplyDeleteWould be good if we can get some silverware this season but even if we do go through we would need to get past Arsenal.
ReplyDeleteask rogers about football ...dont be silly logan
ReplyDeleteLets win today boys I'm fed up of hearing that there's going to be a major upset tonight.
ReplyDeleteBlackburn have already beaten Swansea and Stoke convincingly and could have beaten us at Anfield when our morale was high. Now it is low and they can easily get a results but lets hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteYes very true. In our last three games we started very poorly. We need to start well and play with intend. LFC should be beating teams like Blackburn even though they have caused upsets along the way.
ReplyDeletenot even on the bench that balo no room for him when we have the clear superstars borini and rickie lambert
ReplyDeleteHope to see a bit of Brannagan today!
ReplyDelete...living i guess sigh
ReplyDeleteThere was some talk of him missing last match of a minor issue (can't remember if it was illness or a niggle) and was a ? for today.
ReplyDeletehe was in the most recent training video..... just putting that out there
ReplyDeletealthough i might seem prudish i am a diligent liverpool supporter
ReplyDeleteIf we had Mourinho as our manager then we would have won the League by now.
ReplyDeletei'd be very happy to see a little bit less of joe allen and more of rossiter
ReplyDeleteDid he recover from that injury, has he been playing lately?
ReplyDeleteNo balo in the squad
ReplyDeleteyep he should be injured for about one more month, didn't know that
ReplyDeleteis he going to ask you to marry him
ReplyDeleteHe posted a pic a just a bit ago showing a feverish temp on a thermometer. I guess he fell ill last night, doctor recommended he be sent home. Food Poisoning perhaps.
ReplyDeletePlease sell out Borini,Balotelli,Aspas, and Lambert ASAP.LFC must analyst that Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva cannot give big impact during played big game @ high pressure game.Lazar Markovic is not more than substitudes player. This season it not happen to see Philippe Coutinho playing as strikers when Borini,Balotelli and Lambert cannot effect the game.Steven Gerrard still very good if LFC used PC10 as striker.
ReplyDeleteI hope LFC can sign in big name striker like Luciano Vietto,Paulo Dybala,Mauro Icardi,Alexandre Lacazette or why not try to combain Karem Benzema partner with Gonzalo Higuin at Anfield.
Why not before end this season LFC try to use Jon Flanagan as Holding Ball or DMF because i look he is very powerfull in tackles, pace, genius and good back up.Carlos Teixera,Sergi Canos and Tiago Ilori the best name we want to see joining senior team next season.Luis Alberto still good for DMF, LFC do not rushing to sell him. Many thing he can offer us.
Spot on mate. I get sick of all these fair weather fans too
ReplyDeleteLoved that :-)
ReplyDeleteYer but they look great in Europe through to the quarter finals of the europer league exactly what I was saying about Rafa in Europe not in series a yer dope
ReplyDeleteYes it is its ten times better than rogers transfers rogers has spent 200 million two players maybe three coutinio Sturridge and can look the only good players he's brought wasted the rest on average players Rafa brought reina Torres mascarano agger Alonso skytal. 90percent of players Rafa brought ended up being world class I no not every player Rafa brought turned out to be good but most did rogers can't be trusted with more money we need another manager at the end of the season whose experienced and can attract the top players because rogers can't he's had three seasons now it's time for a more experienced manager in Europe to come in and I hope it's Benitez
