In a surprise move, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has left 'wonderful' Reds captain Steven Gerrard out of the match-day squad for tonight's must-win clash with Hull City.
FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Johnson, Allen, Henderson, Ibe, Sterling, Coutinho, Balotelli
SUBS: Jones, Toure, Lambert, Manquillo, Lallana, Brannagan, Markovic
* I expected Gerrard to be on the bench, but not left out of the squad altogether. He recently missed three games, so it's not like he's tired and/or overplayed. Is Gerrard injured again, or has Rodger just dropped him altogether?
* With Liverpool's season on the line, I imagine that Gerrard will be angry about missing out on such a important game.
* Balotelli makes his second consecutive start, something he hasn't done since October 2014.
* Joe Allen comes in for Gerrard, and with Lucas out, the Welsh international has yet another chance to stake a claim for a regular starting place.
This is the team I selected in the pre-match preview article, and hopefully Rodgers will go with the following formations:
------------------ Mignolet
Can -------------- Skrtel ----------------- Lovren
-- Johnson -- Allen - Henderson ---------- Ibe
------------Coutinho - Balotelli
----------------- Sterling
I suspect, however, he'll continue to persist with the fatal strategy of playing Balotelli up-front alone:
------------------ Mignolet
Can -------------- Skrtel ----------------- Lovren
-- Johnson -- Allen - Henderson ---------- Ibe
------------Coutinho - Sterling
----------------- Balotelli
Quite simply, this is a must-win game, and given the comparative cost of both squads, anything other than a victory is unacceptable.

Do you feel lucky punk, lets hope so ;-)
ReplyDeleteHour till kick off mate, get started now and clear the room... We're in for a long night.
ReplyDeleteAre you Dirty, Harry?
ReplyDeleteBalo hat-trick it is then!
ReplyDeleteI would have excepted a back 3 and Balotelli starting if we went 3-4-1-2 with Sterling alongside Balotelli, but both are as selfish as eachother, so that may not work either.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Balotelli going to do different in this match compared to the last match is my question to Brendan Rodgers and who is going to change the match from the bench?
ReplyDeleteConfirmed #LFC subs v @HullCity: Jones, Toure, Lambert, Manquillo, Lallana, Brannagan, Markovic
Did we really spend £117m to be in this situation?
Can't believe Johnson is starting again, he must have photos of BR doing something he shouldn't be doing!
ReplyDeleteWhy has he started Balotelli again?
ReplyDeleteLambert must be spitting at a picture of Brendan before he sleeps just to relieve his frustration at being treated like a muppet....We all know Balotelli is a joke.. Give Lambert a chance, especially against a physical Hull defence... I would have played Lambo,Marko and Lallana instead of Allen, Johnson and Balotelli, but thats just me thinking of ways to entertain the fans and stop people falling asleep in theor seats as they watch a repeat of the WBA game.... Luckily my hair is too short to pull it out while watching... Thank God for small mercies..
ReplyDeleteSurprised Gerrard not even in the squad.... he has to be hurt or something.
ReplyDeleteYea and can behind ??
ReplyDeletePlaying Mario as lone striker? Not a big secret, mate.
ReplyDeleteNot only did he not prove a point, I don't even know what point he was trying to make.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, every team is going encounter so good fortune and some misfortune...
ReplyDeleteThe good teams will win in spite of the misfortune and take advantage of the good fortune.
The bad teams will still lose in spite of receiving the good fortune and the misfortune will only pile on.
2-0 to Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with Balotelli starting.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I thought he offered as much as anyone in the final third the other day. He made some nice runs. Held up the ball well, and dribbled well in tight spaces.
But he should be playing up top with Sterling as a pair.
my prediction, a hard fought 1-0 win to LFC.
ReplyDeleteIt has got nothing to do with Balo selling shirts. You are just trying to find excuses.
ReplyDeleteFSG did not ask Rodgers or the transfer committee to sign Balotellli. Who is the club? Who agreed to sign Balotelli?
Can't argue with it being a failure. I would say trying to blow Hitler up and bolloxing it up fits the description a touch more like.
ReplyDeleteFeeling sorry for him.
ReplyDeleteBecause everything is his fault and anything else is exoneration in the monochrome world.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone come forward and tell me this is a team which will win trophies? And how much more money on top of the £215m that has already been spent over the last three years still needs to be added?
ReplyDelete1-0 to Liverpool
ReplyDeleteGerrard is leaving, it does not matter what Rodgers does with him at this point. He will get a massive send off in the very last game of the season.
ReplyDeletePity he does not have an EPL medal to show for all the times he dragged us out of the sh!te.
I never imagined the day you'd feel sorry for Rodgers! :)
ReplyDelete(Note: I'm kidding)
Let's just hope they play well
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteSo wasteful from set pieces this season
ReplyDeleteI think we will get to know the fate of BR after the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteBut Logan knows now.
ReplyDeleteLogan - can you just give it a break. Look at you - the game is on and you are more interested in engaging with someone on this website to, once again, argue your case for why Rodgers should be out. We get it!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust ignore him mate, he has been stuck on the same record since day 1, nothing will ever change.
ReplyDeleteUnlucky- have we actually scored from a corner this season?
ReplyDeleteso listening to 5 Live and apparently Sterling is having another poor game so far.
ReplyDeleteSkrtel header against gunners
ReplyDeleteso listening to 5 Live and apparently Sterling is having another poor game so far.
ReplyDeleteAlso well done to those Liverpool fans not making the journey down in protest against the outrageous ticket prices... £50 quid
Oh yea thank you
ReplyDeleteDo people realize that we have a interchanging attack, with players free to move about and switch positions in the front 3. Why do some people continue to infer that Balotelli's pathetic performances are somehow due to being played up top on his own and it's Rodgers fault. Rodgers deserves plenty of blame through the season but constantly blaming him for Balotelli is not warranted at all.
ReplyDeleteEven if Rodgers asked him to stay up top on his own, Balotelli doesn't have the discipline anyway. You can see him dropping deep or moving to the sides, and Sterling is more advanced than him in a lot of situations. So there is no way he is a lone striker. In any case, he's a professional and he's a striker, so he should be able to adapt in the year since joining, but he doesn't care to learn. He's 100% to blame when he's duly shown the door this summer.
And that would have been a neat goal.
ReplyDeleteActually that's incorrect.
ReplyDeleteHe made a very strong case about how he was Rodgers' biggest supporter last year when we finished second and challenging for a title.
Not so much now that we're in 5th.
Indeed
ReplyDeleteshame to see Emre Can wasted in defense.
ReplyDeleteSo Skrtel in the centre of a back three only having to head or clear the ball (that is all) from danger compared to having to defend in a back four = accident waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteGo and get yourself a glass from the cupboard and fill it with water or similar, honestly, you will be able to fill it past the hallway mark.
ReplyDeleteDo you say anything else?
ReplyDeleteAnd here we go
ReplyDeleteCough, Cough.
ReplyDeleteYou agree with me :-)
ReplyDeletehere we go again 1 - 0 to hull
ReplyDeleterodgers is an idiot, can at rb is worse than my granny there!
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of a fact, I do.
ReplyDeleteSo almost everyone in the world knows
ReplyDeleteCan is not a full back, allen is not a defensive midfielder and Balotelli is not a lone striker. But all knowing rodgers knows best. #Rodgersout and if u still in the delusion that he deserves time then u have resigned to the fact that lfc should not be winning trophies or signing worldclass players because that's what's gonna happen if he is "given time" to destroy everything his predecessors have built.
There goes my prediction.
ReplyDeleteCan't keep a clean sheet every game.
ReplyDeleteYes yes, almost £120m spent, square pegs round holes.
ReplyDeleterodgers out!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I am 100% correct with my summary unless you want to prove me wrong.
ReplyDeleteSkrtel was in NOMANSLAND.
Why are we playing so poorly... Does this team not want champions league football ... Feels like the start of the season all over again and I thought that was behind us
ReplyDeleteBugger, don't want to get drawn into an argument, my fault. - You're 100% right about everything.
ReplyDeleteWe will win this game.
Ok then. Good night.
ReplyDeleteWho do you support Logan? I know you 'follow' Liverpool, but who do you actually support?
ReplyDeleteBalo you suck
ReplyDeleteI support Liverpool Football Club. The team I have been supporting for more than 2 decades.
ReplyDeleteWhat do people think Balotelli is a lone striker. We have a dynamic, interchanging front 3 and Balotelli is always roaming around the field. He's a professional and is well-paid but is not interested in learning to expand his game. I just don't get why people still excuse him and somehow blame Rodgers instead? Incredible. Rodgers in guilty of buying the misfit, that's for sure. But he's given him his chances.
ReplyDeleteThese players do not appear to playing for Brendan and it shows.
ReplyDeleteThey don't appear to believe in his philosophy whatever that is.
Rodgers is a very good salesman. FSG have figured him out.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks back I read a report about a dressing room bustup between Rodgers and the players and that he has lost the dressing room . we're there any truth in that because we are def not playing as a team at the moment ...
ReplyDeleteDeath by football.
ReplyDeleteDeath by something but it's not football.
ReplyDeleteOr Tiki taka.
ReplyDeleteI prefer a Madras ,Tikka Masala
ReplyDeleteand my hopes
ReplyDeleteAnd there we went.
ReplyDeleteSpot on
ReplyDeleteA proper Biryani would do it right now. I am not Indian but hell, the food that comes from there is delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, and he must have had you fooled last year when we finished second.
ReplyDeleteBut he fools you no more!
A proper Biryani would do it right now. I am not Indian but the food that comes from there is delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteMy post keeps on going for moderation...
ReplyDeleteBalotelli is an absolute waste of oxygen don't give me he prefers playing as a pair up front cause it's a bs. He only likes playing with a strike partner is because he's lazy and he had one less marking him.
ReplyDeleteDrown your sorrows. Rodgers to the rescue!
ReplyDeleteJohnson's best game thus far 4-5 forward runs, Ibe terrible goes to right every time when dribbling defender waits for him every time, Balo disinterested, and at least Lovren is spraying fine passes and is not to blame for a goal- or is he? Rodgers is dead meat
ReplyDeleteI suppose we won't dream to blame Balotelli for that one. Balotelli kept all the Hull players onside - Skrtel correctly ran out along with everyone else bar Balotelli. And just before that, Balotelli shrieks a header from the original corner. But it's Rodgers fault, right?
ReplyDeleteSoon as he gets the ball he slows play down to walking pace hull gets settled drops deep easy to mark and that's when he's not offside, hope he gets sold this season
ReplyDeleteJesus the guys 19 years old and only just come in the team..
ReplyDeleteJust what I needed a football emetic
ReplyDeleteBalotelli is the least of our problems
ReplyDeleteHe has no one up there with him.
ReplyDeleteIt's one on three.
What would you like him to do? Attack three defenders by himself?
I'm going to get pelters but I'd rather we finish 8th and not in the Europa league so if we lose I wont shed any tears
ReplyDelete180 page dossier containing the words "Death by Football"
ReplyDelete£215m pounds 3 years later and FSG are reading through that dossier again with unlimited supply of tissues.
Could have fooled me. The guy who's more interested in trying to be proved right, than wishing for Liverpool to win their games.
ReplyDeleteWhat the #### is Balo up to ,
ReplyDeletehe misses a sitter after an excellent run by Johnson
and plays Dawson on side for Hull goal
Still wasteful and useless tonight but maybe proves me wrong in second half... Only Sterling is more terrible
ReplyDeleteI was actually thinking about this the other day.
ReplyDeleteDo we really want Europa next year?
Lovren told Balo to move forward seconds before the goal came but he was 2 slow to respond and they scored. Damn. Where is the attacking mentality of lfc, it's just pedestrian at best....
ReplyDeleteIf it's Rodgers we would not get past the group so doesn't change a lot.
ReplyDeleteCannot blame BR for Balo's poor performance.
ReplyDeleteBalotelli has said he's not a lone striker because he doesn't like working hard working the line making runs he's just lazy nothing to do with his ability
ReplyDeleteOf course you are going to say that. We won many games last season. Where have you been? 6 comments?
ReplyDeleteBut you were his biggest fan last year!
ReplyDeleteWas that not your claim?
He presented the dossier years ago.
I take it that you have now "seen the light".
Its not Lovren's fault right? For the sake of argument?
ReplyDeleteLike I said, he is a great salesperson. His dossier will not help him with his next job interview. That is for sure!
ReplyDeleteI can understand why some people get annoyed with you as you seem to revel in the misfortunes even as they are happening,
ReplyDeleteYou are probably right about some things but less is sometimes more
Are you watching the game today?
ReplyDeleteSomething you're not known for eh?
ReplyDeleteSo why bother to respond?
ReplyDeleteNot all of my posts go for moderation. Even Orme complains about the same thing.
ReplyDeleteyes, why ? do you think we would get past group stage in the Europa league with Rodgers ? because i don't. So not a lot of strenght left
ReplyDeleteFor a guy who comments non-stop on this website, you sure dont know how to defend your argument. You state your opinion and when someone challenges you to defend/elaborate, you either ignore them or post the same opinion over and over again.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever understand?
ReplyDeleteBR did not pick Balo. In fact, the committee picked the team for Rodgers today!
ReplyDeletenot a lot of strenght lost in the EL*
ReplyDelete"I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee that says, 'Fool me once, shame on ... shame on you. Fool me... You can't get fooled again!"
ReplyDeleteKnow I do.
ReplyDeleteYou say he's a great salesperson. But you don't believe he's able to sell players on coming here.
ReplyDeleteSo is he a great salesperson, or are FSG just suckers?
You can't have it both ways, Logan.
Rodgers is going to win the Champions League with LFC! :-)
ReplyDeleteNo, the defense moved up, except Balo. Either way they are one up sadly.
ReplyDeleteHe has coutinho behind him sterling ends close to him he's never on his bogus remark he needs to making runs trying to create space for those near him but does nothing drops deep creating no space for anyone, he's the biggest problem with us going forward
ReplyDeleteyep and then he's going to win the world cup with England !
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to that!
ReplyDeleteWhy bother watching something that you have no belief in?
ReplyDeleteYou don't believe that the team would have any chance with Rodgers at the helm. So why would you waste your own time watching a team that you surely believe will be unsuccessful.
I don't mind pessimism or realism. But you already think the team will lose NEXT YEAR when you don't know who the manager is or what the team will look like.
How long do you guys think before Rodgers changes things and mkes a change or changes?
ReplyDeleteRodgers was appointed 3 years ago. FSG can now see right through him.
ReplyDeletehe's probably waiting the extra-time...
ReplyDeleteGo have a look at how many comments I have made my friend. I do not have to pretend.
ReplyDeleteHe's moonlighting as the invisible man?
ReplyDeleteHaha yeah probably to eat up some time to stop hull from scoring and keeping the scoreline respectable
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you just answer the question?
ReplyDelete"So is he a great salesperson, or are FSG just suckers?"
In my opinion, your lack of an answer means that you're saying the owners are suckers.
Which in that case means that you don't think Rodgers is the problem. You think the owners are problem. After all, if they fire Rodgers, who's to say they won't get suckered again.
And you subsequently proved his point with your response.
ReplyDeleteThen he can bring on Lambert!
ReplyDelete:)
Our saviour!
ReplyDeleteof course he has. You been watching our sh!te performance?
ReplyDeleteRodgers will be sacked.
ReplyDeleteI get too frustrated with W U Ms like you and delete my account from time to time. I'm as disappointed as anyone about this season, but I still look forward to each game and watch it intently, supporting my team. Yes, we need major changes, and Rodgers should probably go, but no need to revel in it.
ReplyDeleteYou can't/won't answer the question.
ReplyDeletea troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion
Couldn't agree with a comment more.
ReplyDeleteI do not have to confirm my support for this club. I support Liverpool Football Club and the mediocrity that is being dished up at this point should in no shape or form be accepted any longer.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that have to do with his or my comment? Nothing.
ReplyDeleteWhat did your original comment about"go have a look" have to do with his comment? Nothing.
In other words, you are simply reinforcing what he said. That you don't know how to defend your argument. And when you are challenged to elaborate you change the subject, ignore the point, or just post the same thing over and over and over again.
Rogers deserves to be sacked end of story, even if we had of one the FA Cup he would deserved to be sacked. And Logan has point
ReplyDeletehow could B Rodgers sell Agger and Reina for Peanuts? When they are both better than what we currently have at club
How can B Rodgers waste £30.5M on strikers that do not score? F Balotelli, F Borini and
He doesn't need to say it for everyone to know he works best in a pair. Now he's actually working hard and pressing. 4 strikers this fraud of a coach has bought and we cannot seem to be able to to score. All of a sudden he's forgot that the reason we did so well last year was because he played two strikers I'm not saying any of the strikers are on par with the sas but I'm sick of the drab no organisation kind of football we've been playing.
ReplyDeleteI have been on this site for ages. Even before my current profile name.
ReplyDeleteI do not have to prove myself to anyone. Go have a look at the sh!te that is being served up mate.
Rodgers next season all the way! I think not.
SACK RODGERS SACK RODGERS SACK RODGERS SACK RODGERS SACK RODGERS
ReplyDeleteCaps lock explains your frustrations!
ReplyDeleteFSG = You are crazy to keep Rodgers he will WASTE ALL YOUR MONEY AND HE HAS LOST THE FANS
ReplyDeleteSACK HIM TONIGHT
ReplyDeleteThey are not going to keep him. Relax.
ReplyDeleteHa ha.
ReplyDeleteThe game is still being played
ReplyDeleteCome on Liverpool. Show us that you can get a goal!
ReplyDeleteRodgers out ...
ReplyDeleteNo urgency exactly the same all season. same old same old story
ReplyDeleteYou sit and pray for a goal yet Balotelli gets to start the match when even Borini will provide more movement!
ReplyDeleteEverything is A ok.
Skrtel ha ha. Brilliant defender :-0
ReplyDeleteSkrtel has also stopped two clear cut chances on his own this half, obviously though you would rather stick the boot in than credit Joe Allen with his good work covering.
ReplyDeleteThe Abyzmal and Comical Transfer Committee and B Rodgers needs to be shipped out with the 11 dead wood average players we have at club and one world class player who does not suit style of current side.
ReplyDeleteI made it clear, Skrtel in a back 3 having the job of clearing and heading the ball away from danger compared to having him in a back four and expecting him to defend are 2 totally different situations.
ReplyDeleteGood night.
A season to forget. Zero positives.
ReplyDeleteanother must win game....gone down the pan
ReplyDeleteGet ready for the mantra- I thought we were outstanding, just needed that wee bit of luck, as I said we will keep going- blah blah blah
ReplyDeleteBalo is the problem !
ReplyDeleteMy team was outstanding!
ReplyDeleteEverytime we have needed a result we have bottled it. And in all them games B Rodgers has played his Love Child J Clueless Allen.
ReplyDeleteGames we needed result: Basel Home
Man United Home
Arsenal Away
Aston Villa at Wembley
Hull Away Tonight
See pattern
I think we will all remember this poor performance as the one that cost BR his job.
ReplyDeleteThis dossier thing was it the same one that was used to start a war Iraq
ReplyDeleteThe only thing you've made clear this evening is that you're a bit of a Piddington.
ReplyDeleteBitterly disappointed, well played Hull.
Top 4 now officially over for those delusional enough to believe we can still qualify.
ReplyDeleteToothless Liverpool. Awful and it's all Rodgers fault.
ReplyDeleteQPR Ski Palace Stoke = zero points okay then 1 point
ReplyDeleteRemind me again how much sterling wants ... He was woeful tonight . So many poor performances only coutinho showed up ... This is beyond depressing
ReplyDeleteBrenda Rogers - dead woman walking..
ReplyDeleteLogan - what is the point in saying 'Good Night' in this comment? It is yet more antagonism from you, and I am sick of it. I'm also sick of you posting the same thing over and over and over again (i.e. gleefully slagging off Rodgers with snide, pointless, non-constructive comments as if you deliriously enjoy Liverpool's demise. Criticise Rodgers by all means, but 80% of your comments about him do not promote debate, and are just one-line snipes.
ReplyDeleteYour comments are welcome here, and you make good points, but you need to take a look at your posting style, and stop deliberately antagonising.
I don't want to hear excuses - just moderate your posting style, or face a permanent ban. You know exactly what I'm talking about.
It is the Committees fault as well as Ayre and FSG.
ReplyDeleteRodgers needs the red carpet treatment.
Did you think of that all by yourself?
ReplyDeleteRodgers out
ReplyDeleteAye that Francis Balotelli's been rubbish
ReplyDeleteCan someone check this, when was the last time our team conceded first and still went ahead and won the game? I don't think we have this season, and if so maybe one or two games. Also, how many times have we conceded first and lost?
ReplyDeleteWas Allen his love child from his first marriage, from his current g/f or from a trip to the ladies..
ReplyDeleteJaimie, why do other posters get away with calling me a toddler?
ReplyDeletehaha..good one
ReplyDeleteSpeechless....just speechless. How does a tactician of BR's repute play the same tactics that cost us points on the weekend against a Hull team fighting for survival. Fair play to Hull but we never once looked like scoring. If I didn't know better, I'd think BR's offering to put up the money for his own coffin
ReplyDeletePatheticn absolutely pathetic it just seems when the pressure is on and the big games (this was a big game in the scheme of things ) Rodgers just bottles it . It's so frustrating he has to go surely ...
ReplyDeleteHe's barely played over the past 6 months.
ReplyDeleteSterling has been the main striker since mid-December.
There are many culprits in this season, and Balotelli is one of them. Not the biggest culprit nor the sole culprit.
I agree that was disgraceful and totally indefensible - I know some quite sensible toddlers
ReplyDeleteMaybe we need to start a scandalous rumour if BR now does not have the decency to RESIGN.
ReplyDeleteStill the best heh Brenda?
To the guys who say BR should stay, give me one good reason. And last season was not him, it was all SAS.
ReplyDeleteAgger and Reina were wage casualties. Reina especially.
ReplyDeleteNo I had help reading the scrawl in the Ladies toilet at the Anfield end.. ;-)
ReplyDeletewe played really well...we had our chances...coutinho was outstanding...hopefully we come out better for the remainder of the season..bla...bla..bla...
ReplyDeleteMY FOOT !
Wow. i actually think Rodgers is done now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for last season.
Did Ayre & FSG get credit for last season?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope so! I'm not sold on Klopp though!
ReplyDelete* Good-natured banter is fine, but posts containing personal insults, belittlement, sniping, deliberate antagonism etc (directed at fellow posters, players, managers, rival fans etc) will be deleted.
ReplyDeleteOne shoe fits all?
* Good-natured banter is fine, but posts containing personal insults, belittlement, sniping, deliberate antagonism etc (directed at fellow posters, players, managers, rival fans etc) will be deleted.
ReplyDeleteI think this guy lacks decency...will leave only when he is officially fired
ReplyDeleteI have tried to post your comment policy?
ReplyDeleteOne shoe fits all?
As at now. U really get the feeling it's going to get much worse before it gets better. I'm with logan all the way. Who really looked forward to watching this game? I wasn't that keen to be honest and not to mention every thing going on off field about the ticket prices.
ReplyDeleteOne shoe fits all.
ReplyDeleteYou're missing the point then.
ReplyDeleteMy comments and his Kopa's comments have nothing to do with proving yourself.
It's simply that if you want to debate, debate.
If you take a stance, stick with it, and reinforce it with facts, opinions, and information.
But repeating the same thing over and over again or simply changing/ignoring the subject because you don't like the answer is not a debate. It's trolling.
Who else can we realistically get that has won a domestic title in a competitive league?
ReplyDeleteHe will have to be peeled off
ReplyDeleteFriggin mercenary he should be allowed to leave, hell, he should be given a boot
ReplyDelete
