Hamann raves: £32m maestro is the Prem's 'best player this season'. Agree?

'Fantastic' Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard continues to be popular amongst former Liverpool players, and Reds legend Dietmar Hamann is the latest ex-Red to hail the exciting Belgian attacker.

In February, Michael Owen claimed that Hazard is the 'signing of the season', and after watching the attacker's performance against Southampton today, Hamann raved:

"Hazard is easily the best player in the Premier League this season"

Jamie Carragher is also a fan of Hazard, and last season, he told Sky Sports:

"He [Hazard] is a bit of a maverick but we've seen him grab games by the scruff of the neck. He's got that little bit of craft and genius."Is Hazard - who cost Chelsea £32m - really the Premier League's best player this season? The Belgian is undoubtedly a top-class player, but when it comes to specific, measurable impact, Sanchez is having a greater impact on Arsenal in his first year at the club than Hazard, who is in his third season at Chelsea. Stats:

* Hazard: 15 goals/13 assists in 42 apps (28 in 42).
* Goal/assist every 1.5 games (1 every 126 mins)
* Prem only: Minutes-per-goal: 247

* Sanchez: 18 goals/10 assists in 37 apps (28 in 37)
* Goal/assist every 1.2 games (1 every 107 mins)
* Prem only: Minutes-per-goal: 166

For me, Sanchez is the best (attacking) player in the Prem this season, and his primary stats arguably support that. Just imagine if he'd signed for Liverpool; the Reds would probably be top of the league right now, or close to it.

  1. Sanchez and Hazard are both good but they don't play for Liverpool, so will never be the best.

  2. Take Hazards penalty goals away and he's not that prolific. I actually think he is boring to watch, whereas Sanchez, Coutinho are more unpredictable and exciting to watch.

  3. Hazard could be the next Coutinho though?

  4. Don't be daft.

  5. Hazard is currently benefitting from Sanchez going a bit quiet and his own form being the best in a boring Chelsea side. Pundits find it hard to look further back than the last couple of games.

  6. Sanchez shits all over Hazard this season

  7. He's a scat man?

  8. I think that too. He tries to play a lot more efficiently, but that probably has a lot to do with Mourinho.

  9. *to the tune of scat man*- 'I just shat, man'

  10. Dammit Bob and G, there's usually people on here being all negative, sorry 'critical' about Liverpool that I can disagree with. Agree with you both re Hazard, he could be a lot better player if not reigned in by moaniho.

  11. Can we, before I get banned, have a favourite moment of the season, (before we win the league obviously) here is mine, again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abd6xNQQV5o

  12. Sanchez might have better stats, but I'd take Hazard every day. He's a bigger presence on the field. Not that don't rate Sanchez though...but if I'm choosing a player to build around, I choose Hazard. He's the Derek Jeter of football.

  13. Agree if building a team from scratch and Coutinho not available, otherwise, I think Sanchez fits our existing team better due to his 100% in every game compared to Hazard.

  15. Eden Hazard or Sanchez? It's like choosing between a Ferrari or Lamborghini.Both top quality.I would be happy for either to be parked in our garage/squad.
    This season Sanchez gets the nod.However overall i think Hazard is the slightly better player, but Alexis Sanchez would suit Liverpool's system better.

  16. Yeah, maybe it's just me, they both chose London. I don't want either of them in my garage, they can both jog on. Coutinho for the win.

  17. Sorry Beast, on reflection my reply sounds a bit harsh. Why don't we have an article about how dam good we are though and how the other teams, (is there any?) wish they had our players on their books.

  19. No need to apologise.
    Philippe Coutinho has a long way to go before he's mentioned seriously with Sanchez or Eden Hazard.His stats don't qualify him to be the same conversation.
    I see PC as a different type of attacking midfielder.A central creative, passing playmaker type.Who's closer in style to David Silva.Hazard and Alexis Sanchez are dribblers who play in slightly more advanced wide forward roles.

  20. You've blindsided me there, the Stella hasn't equipped me for a sensible conversation. Actually though, I agree completely, I do think though PC - to coin a phrase is possibly even a bit more 'dynamic' than Silva. If he meets or surpasses Silva's level though then world class he will be and happy days.
    I honestly feel Sanchez would of been the perfect replacement for Suarez but if we spend wisely this summer on two or three high level players then we're in with a shout next season.

  21. Think Sanchez is a brilliant player, hazard is highly skilled at diving lazy toe rag.

  22. I don't know Derek Jeter but I agree with you.

  23. Hazard is a great player, and one of the est in the premier league, but I don't think he's the best this season...Honestly, I don't see a real stand out best of player so far this season, ther has been a fair few great performances. Picking player of the year isn't going to be as easy as Suarez last season..
