LFC line-up vs. CFC: £46m duo out? LFC to suffer as a result of BR's hubris?

Liverpool face Chelsea for the second time in a week tonight, and according to Brendan Rodgers and Jordan Henderson, the result is practically a foregone conclusion. Instead of just being humble allowing the football do the talking, Rodgers and his captain-elect have spent the last seven days in the grip of misplaced overconfidence, and that may come back to haunt the Reds tonight.

I've highlighted Rodgers' ill-advised hubris in a separate article, but Henderson - seemingly emboldened by his tunnel tough-guy act after the first game - is also peddling the same grating, overconfident 'we should've won' schtick, which is (IMO) a mistake.

I have a bad feeling about this game, for the following reasons:

* Rodgers' hubris after the first game, which could conceivably motivate Chelsea to push harder.

* After losing 4-2 at home, Chelsea's pride is wounded, and Mourinho will undoubtedly have them massively fired up for the game.

* Chelsea very rarely lose two home games in a row.

* After his altercation with Henderson, Costa will probably be even more fired up for the game.

On the plus side, Brendan Rodgers hinted that Daniel Sturridge may make the bench for the game, but he also conceded that he'd only make that choice if the striker is 100% fit and ready.

As much as Liverpool need Sturridge, he's only recently returned to training, and a high-intensity, hugely physical game against Chelsea is probably the wrong game to make a comeback.

I expect to see the following line-up:

------------------- Mignolet

--------- Can ------ Skrtel ------- Sakho

---- Johnson --- Hendo --- Lucas ---- Moreno

------------- Coutinho -- Gerrard

------------------- Sterling

* Rodgers may go for experience in this game, hence the inclusion of Johnson and Gerrard over Manquillo and £20m-Markovic.

* There's also a possibility that £26m Lallana may come in for Coutinho.

* There's an outside chance that Lovren may come in for Can, who may need a rest after starting seven games in a row.

* Moreno didn't make the squad for Saturday's stalemate with Bolton, which suggests that he'll come back into the side.

Sorry, but I just can't see Liverpool winning this game. I hope I'm proven wrong.

My prediction: 3-1 to Chelsea

  3. I think you place far too much importance in what Rodgers, various pundits and players themselves say to the media. Obviously you have a personal dislike for arrogance, misplaced confidence, over-praise and similar displays. The theme is that you prefer your football team to be humble, quiet, understated and dignified. Fine, that's what you like, but the notion that what you personally like or dislike corresponds to what is good or bad for this football club is a stretch too far. Evidence suggests that confidence is GOOD for the club and Liverpool are a better team when they have their swagger on. It's when they start to doubt themselves that it goes wrong.

  4. With all due respect, why don't you stop making pointless, inaccurate statements about my view on this particular subject?

At no point have I ever stated, hinted, or inferred that my personal opinion 'corresponds to what is good or bad for LFC'. I just give my opinion on how I perceive the situation; that's it, so please stop twisting my words. What you've suggested here is complete and utter nonsense, but you already know that. You're just being deliberately antagonistic on this issue, as you have been many times in the past.

  5. I'd expect Chelsea to take it 2-1, maybe worse if Liverpool push at the end of the game for an equalizer and get exposed. So 3-1 would not be out of the question. Not that Liverpool are not playing well or capable of the result, but Chelsea are a far better team than what they showed against Bradford and Mourhino will have torn them a new ###hole after that game. They'll be motivated, they'll work hard and their quality should come through. I can see us huffing and puffing but their defence should hold out well enough. No shame in that, so long as we put in a good display.

    ReplyDelete
  6. So saying that overconfidence is "a mistake" and "will come back to haunt them" is not an assertion that it's bad for the club?

    ReplyDelete
  7. No, it's not an assertion; you've made it an assertion by incorrectly paraphrasing the article.

    I stated the following:

"Rodgers and his captain-elect have spent the last seven days in the grip of misplaced overconfidence, and that may come back to haunt the Reds tonight.

*May* not *will*, which is what you've posted. I've suggested that there is a possibility that it may come back to haunt LFC; I didn't say it WILL, so again, please stop twisting my words.

What make u guys thing chelsea is too strong for us? Is all about tactical guys !

  11. That's supposed to make a difference? You have put forward the idea that over-confidence within the team has the potential to be harmful. Just like previously you have put forward the idea that over-praise for players has the potential to be harmful. Why even express these ideas if you're just going to disown them the first time they are questioned? At least stick to your guns.

  12. If this forum is representative of what most Liverpool fans think (we're gonna get beat tonight), Icant see any harm in the manager installing some extra confidence and belief in his team. If our finishing can be a bit more clinical I fancy us to win, but that's a big if! For that reason I'd go for Gerrard and Lallana to start tonight, and I would stick with Markovic.

    ReplyDelete
  13. GREAT PLAYERS AND MANAGERS DO THEIR TALKING ON THE FIELD !

    ReplyDelete
  14. Why so glum? BR and Hendo are optimistic and positive, because there is plenty to be optimistic and positive about! We've been playing much better football, even without a recognised striker, we've been winning games, massively improving our WDL ratio, had a great game against one of the best sides in world football at the moment and we have the majority of the team either fit, or at least looking to be at full fitness in the next couple of weeks. I know you get a bit irate when BR praises the team, but when they are on a high, getting results and going into a massive game (call the Cap1Cup anything you like, it's still a cup), they need some lifting and I, for one, am all for it. I say bring on the praise, we'll go to the bridge, laugh at their plastic flags, call Costa the Elephant Man, get confused as all of their chants are just re-imaginings of ours, or just about our players, we'll tie the game at 1-1 (2-2 agg) and Sturridge will score in extra time... Well that's my prediction, but all I can see is a win for our boys, we are up for it, we are in form and we can keep them reeling from their huge game on the weekend! Peace, YNWA.

  15. Totally agree Phil. I hope it's not representative of most fans, it certainly isn't where I'm from. I'd go the same, GJ isn't the answer and I honestly believe that Marko is a better fullback/wingback, despite it not being his preferred position.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Like mourinho does? Some great players do, others don't. Benj and Phil, I'm with you fellas. More optimism and positivity needed. Been playing a lot better for a while and good to watch again

    ReplyDelete
  17. I read what Henderson said and it didn't sound ott to me. He said he expected Chelsea to be up for it but he highlighted that we have been playing really good football lately. Both are true. I agree risking Sturridge for the league cup is not worth it but I doubt he'll stay fit until the end of the season anyway. Actually, I doubt he'll ever be 100% fit. Players with his injury record don't become unbreakable all of a sudden. Look at Kirkland and Kelly for example. I think you'r e lineup is spot on JK. Or at least that's how I hope we'll line up considering the players available. Johnson may not without shortcomings but Manquillo is a nightmare. I won't predict a score but I do feel it could go either way.

  18. My prediction Liverpool to win 6-1 Mourinho will pull off Costa and Hazard at half time but it fail to inspire the rest to greater heights.

  19. City was too strong for arsenal but was defeated..its all about mindset and a hood plan..its a test for rodgers which is not impossible..after that anfield display there is a great confidence in lads..and those statements doesnt show over confidence at all..u want us to live in fear of defeat and doesnt utter a word in media..jose can say that it will be a hurtful night for liverpool but we cant ..this is liverpool capable if hurting anyone on their day..they are strong I know but we have good players too

    ReplyDelete
  20. we are never going to beat a chelsea side like this 6-1

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would go with Borini and Sterling up top. Borini has shown that he is always in and around the box and that is exactly what we need at this point plus he has scored some goals.

The Chelsea defence will be far too much for Sterling up on his own at the Bridge. Cannot see us winning this either.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe but i could see Mourinho pulling them off at half time.

    ReplyDelete
  23. agreed, borini up top would be my choice too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would probably go for the front three of Lallana, Couti and Sterling, with the two wide men playing very narrow, and try to break through the middle. Their flanks are strong, but if Marko and Moreno can draw Ivanovic and Azpi/Luis out wide, it leaves Sterling/Lallana/Couti/Hendo to run at Terry and Cahill, and we all know how quick those two can run...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lambert slows us down. Maybe bring him on later if we are ahead. At least with Borini he offers movement and a decent amount of pace. If the Bolton keeper was not at his best then Borini would have scored a screamer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nothing over the top, hence the lack of quotes. Basically, they had the nerve to say we're not jus gonna roll over, and that we're actually capable of not losing

    ReplyDelete
  27. Borini has scored one goal. Singular.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Action speaks louder than words....hope LFC can make an upset. Need Marko instead of Johnson who would get outrun through Hazard,Oscar, Fab.....etc.Why don't v park the bus for some time and then counter strike.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not sure I want to see Mourinho pulling off anyone!

And as usual, my mind has descended to gutter level :-/

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes and Lambert has scored 3 in 23? There is a reason why Rodgers is not staring with Lambert anymore as the plan flopped earlier this season.

    Woke up too late though.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well not sure Sterling and Coutinho are the answer at least Lambert and Lallana are reasonable finishers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Draw leading to penalties

    ReplyDelete
  33. Going positive thinking into this game is the only correct approach. this is cold winning mentality. No matter what the outcome will be the winning mentality is the only way to approach to games I mean in general not only for this game.

For sure Chelsea will be fired up after the last defeat. We can expect this. And for sure Liverpool will also be fired up. It's about final what we are talking here. and nothing else then winning mentality and being fired up is wrong.

Jamie you are wrong when saying Rodgers is wrong about being confident in public. This are psychological games which lift players and make them confident which has positive effect on the game. It's called positive thinking. And you must have it a lot to be treated as a winner. and this is what Rodgers is trying to implement into players. Winning mentality, positive thinking, overconfidence... All this qualities make you better player.

    ReplyDelete
  34. let's park the bus and give moanrinho a taste of his own medicine

    ReplyDelete
  35. My little two cents:

I don't mind positive and uplifting talk about our capacity of beating anyone on our day but one needs to be careful not to say too much...Mourinho is a master at mind games and playing with the media and he will win every time.

I do think that the media and ex players love to hype the team and they are entitled to that to be honest. I just want the players to keep grounded...if they seem over confident in what they say that's probably how they feel and that may bite them if they believe their own hype.

The 1st match vs Chelsea there was a cautionary confidence and we played on that. My point is...we drew...we didn't win. It's like game vs Bolton...we had 28 shots and 63% possession I think...and everyone was praising the team as if we had one...well we drew. Give praise to where it's due but don't overmilk mediocre achievements like drawing 1-1 at home in the 1st leg of a cup. The tie has only just begun. IMO anway.

But Chelsea are a team who are not used to be a goal down...so if we score 1st they will have to come at us and we may exploit that.

We played well vs Chelsea but we didn't win...whether we deserved to win or not is subjective but we didn't win. So we need to go into this game fired up and pumped up.

I don't mind a little huff and puff from Hendo but Costa will eat alive if he gets cocky..I've seen what Costa is capable of doing and Hendo does not match up... Then again that stare was epic...Hendo was not having it...guy didn't even blink, I got scared just by looking at it...I hope to see a little hustle and tussle from them today.

I don't want to see Johnson anywhere near the 1st team for now...he is not ready to play vs Hazard. He will lose.

I think it's important we go out and attack and make them worried. Cahil and Terry are super slow but they have good positioning so we can exploit that.

    My team.

    GK- Mignolet
    DCL- Sakho
    DC- Skrtel
    DCR- Can
    WBL- Moreno
    WBR- Markovic
    MC- Lucas
    MC- Henderson
    AMC- Coutinho
    AMC- Gerrard
    ST- Sterling

If we it's still a draw by half time then I would introduce Sturridge and drop Sterling to AMC or have a 4-1-2 midfield.

    My prediction...

1-0 Liverpool with a headed goal from Can or Sakho from a corner.

    One sending off.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Except Mourinho can choose from his fleet of shiny double-decker Alexander ALX400s. Liverpool don't even own a bus to park.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It will be an error to play uncle Johnson in Liverpool colours again. I thought theteam had shown he is no longer needed. His inept forward runs, hospital passes etc. Why remove Can for Johnson? Beats me

    ReplyDelete
  38. History has shown us that BR si stubborn and is tactically inferior to Mourine

    ReplyDelete
  39. We have a bus to park, SG Can, Allen Lucas Hendo cna be a good bus to park. Its just that BR's tactical naivety prevents him from accepting that Chelsea is too strong for his open attack play

    ReplyDelete
  40. What's that to do with Borini? Borini plays and a better player doesn't. Histone goal isn't justification.

    ReplyDelete
  41. We are capable of winning. That is worth saying and a mentality worth propagating amongst the team.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Interesting prediction. But I certainly agree on Johnson. He is past it and cant chase down the likes of Oscar, Hazard moreso with his famed interest in "bombing forward" and losing the ball without making an attacking pass, He cant track back effectively . I fear, hearing that he has been offered a new contract!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Terry McDermotts perm11:16 am, January 27, 2015

All the Chelsea fans I know are talking a lot more cofidently than this.

    Do away goals count?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I hear Sterling has rejected a second contract & Real Madrid are going to offer £26 million. I hope Sturridge & Gerrard can persuade the boy to stay. Our underwhelming transfers are accentuating the idea that Sterling is the bees knees. The holiday break just highlights this. We really need star quality up front.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Maybe its best that he goes and BR can re-start shaping the team again. Why not offer him what he wants? I know its viewed as player power but at the moment, who else (besides the returning Sturidge) is quality in our team? Failure to keep Raheem will also be the signal to Studge to leave if his contract runs down. And after that we are pretty doomed

    ReplyDelete
  46. I will put my head on the chopping block and say that Borini would have outscored Lambert by now if he had played the same amount of games/minutes. Lambert has been on the bench and is struggling to make the starting eleven, he is not good enough to start for LFC and Borini is far more suited to the pressing system.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Restart shaping the team again? How many more players should he sign? I really cannot see FSG hauling out the massive amounts of cash at the start of next season and I doubt they would trust BR/committee with another huge amount of cash anyway. Unless we sell Sterling for £50m and scrape together more cash from other sales then you can forget about another £100m plus even for a new manager.

The question remains, are FSG happy with the season so far? I know I would not be after making almost £120m available and might not even finish top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I though GJ struggled against Bolton, but maybe a little more experience will help. If BR has to play Johnson, keep Can and bring on Marko if needed.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lambert is not starting for a reason. He is not impacting the game enough.

Plan B is all Lambert should be.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Exactly my sentiment if he leaves it's a doom and gloom scenario. Logan is right this season right here is our rebuilding time & we neglected proven quality. Best case scenario the fringe players like Markovic & Co turn into star quality & Origi hits the floor running next season. Chances of that happening are slim, ideal scenario is we hold the fort & get top 4 with Sturridge staying fit till the end of the season. Then invest in star quality in the summer! Will FSG trust BR it depends on whether the current team demonstrates potential. Markovic is showing glimpses of potential, but top 4 is a must this year.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Confidence is a proof of consistent efforts that guarantees steady progress while over-confidence is a shallow act of boasting post one good performance.
I think this habit separates a class manager from an amateur and a progressive club from a one time wonder.
BR et al should shun these tactics and should rather concentrate on getting results. Because in the end no one will remember the heroics displayed at Anfield. The cups and trophies do the talking !
If Chelsea were so invincible , then Bradford would never pick that win.
There is clearly no room for excuse now - on the part of Mr. Rodgers !
If he can't do it now, then it stands as a fact !

    ReplyDelete
  52. A game of football to Mourinho is like a game of chess. If he has to park 2 buses then he will. BR is too obsessed with playing attractive football. Had our team sat back and played for a draw (and counter attacked) last season against them, we would probably have won the league.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Football first and foremost is a business. It's about being successful by winning trophies and thus generating revenue. BR is naive and I 100% blame him for us throwing the title away. And before you say "It was BR who got us into that position of being challengers", give me a break. Suarez and Sturridge deserve most of the credit followed by the rest of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My point exactly. Was only saying "reshaping the team" sarcastically. I think we should keep Raheem

    ReplyDelete
  55. If he struugles against Bolton how will he fare against Hazard, Oscar? I personally we had sen the last of GJ when he got injured. I cant believ BR has forgotten how GJ struggled against Place last season (against Bolasie and Guy? Im forgetting the young boy's name). Gayle. Then to pit him against cleverer and more experienced players like Oscar, Fabregas, Matic is a recipe for disaster

    ReplyDelete
  56. If Sterling wants to pack his things then there is not much we can do about that. The club will be eager to make him sign that new contract in order for us to get a large fee. On his current wages and only 2 years remaining how much will we get? Apparently he is on £40k a week at the moment so other clubs will be looking at that and smiling.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't really see it as hubris to be honest. It's just positivity, a bit of confidence boosting before a big game. He's saying we *can* beat Chelsea (and I believe we can if we play close to our best) and I don't see too much wrong with that. Unless we'd prefer him to state glumly that Chelsea will kick seven shades of shite out of us, which frankly nobody wants to hear. It seems a tad unjust to single out BR for this kind of boldness when pretty much every coach does it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yes...the words broken record come to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This is on, tonight. Chelsea are in a dip which is going to ruin their season. They should have lost to us last week, they lost to Bradford at the weekend, and they deserved nothing from either game. It's only a couple of games since they were thrashed, deservedly, by Spurs. They were lucky to play Newcastle and Swansea sides in disarray after that, but against organised and motivated opposition they look poor: physically and mentally tired.

Fabregas and Matic are being found out for their poor mobility in midfield. Terry's legs have gone, he's not up to it anymore. Cahill's in stinking form and without Terry recovering his mistakes he has been exposed as nothing more than a battler. Zouma is an inadequate backup. The full backs can't influence things when they are going badly because Mourinho just uses them as training dummies. He is totally reliant on his creative players to produce, game after game, and Hazard aside, his creators simply can't handle the pressure right now. Willian and Oscar do nothing for whole games sometimes -- it's like they are still playing the World Cup semi-final. They are damaged goods. They are luxury players; they play with fear, and are unable to produce answers, when the team is struggling.

The new players are starting to struggle with English winter conditions. Costa has lost a yard of pace as he's become tired, and they've only got a middle-aged impersonator of Didier Drogba as an alternative. Courtois' weakness diving low to his left has been uncovered and strikers are starting to exploit it. The treatment of Cech as a squad player who can be rotated with his young competitor has left him lacking fitness and demotivated. It's a managerial catastrophe.

The manager is twitchy and worried. But what can he do to help? Mourinho's tactics are so inflexible that it gives them nowhere to go if things start to turn against them. The players are doubting each other on the pitch and are starting to go into their shells. The manager appears unable to lift them, presumably spouting the same old threats and excuses he's been spreading around Europe for the last ten years. With no new signings in the winter, Chelsea haven't yet been able to turn to their usual way of solving on-field problems by throwing money at them.

The club are in danger of getting sucked back into the pack in the league and crashing out of the cups. They wouldn't be the first side to stumble in mid season after going out of the blocks at a sprint. And usually when things go wrong for a big club at this level it's spectacular. So this is a big game for them tonight, they are under real pressure. The last team I'd want to be facing if I was them is Liverpool: in form and motivated, pacy and direct, a counter-attacking side who present non-stop individual challenges with their running on the ball and their unorthodox team structure.

The glass isn't half full. It's overflowing. It's not even a glass, it's
an aquarium. Scratch that, it's supertanker. A supertanker full of win. This could be anything. Expect an epic. Expect... victory.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Man I am loving this! But I still still caution is needed. I hope what you're saying is true as I'm not really up to date with the insurance and outs of Chelsea.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Just giving a little demonstration of what *actual* hubris might look like ; )

    ReplyDelete
  62. ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't say that first he needs to be praise because he was the one that made the them to do what they did. if u look at them before BR took over u will know it is not just about them but the person who brought them to their form

    ReplyDelete
  63. liverpool will win 0-2 just watch and see

    ReplyDelete
  64. We are talking about a team who have won more EPL games than anyone else and lost the least and scored for fun along the way and undefeated 100% home record too in the EPL. They are 17 points ahead of us. Not bad I would say.

Every team will have a dip but they are well on course to win the EPL and can also go onto get the CL which is a much bigger priority than the Carling Cup.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Uhmn 40K a week? Something is not right though

    ReplyDelete
  66. No you can imagine how easy it would be for Real Madrid to flash the cash in Sterling's face, guarantee success and in return pay us peanuts.

    ReplyDelete
  67. brilliant mate :-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Wish I could give you a supertanker full of upvotes.

    ReplyDelete
  69. If Sturridge comes on for the final 20+ minutes and gets injured, I'm going to lose my mind. What's left of it to lose, that is.

    ReplyDelete
  70. If Sterling wants to leave let him leave, Liverpool are bigger then any one player.

    ReplyDelete
  71. We probably played our best all season last week against Chelsea and we only got a draw. Chelsea are really tough at home, especially under Mourinho. Can't see us winning tonight especially after Bradford beat them too, hope we do but the pessemist/realist says doom tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  72. You seem to be afraid of Chelsea and Mourinho in particular but that shouldn't be the case, they are just human beings like everyone at LFC. Henderson said we should have won the game which is simply the truth and I doubt anyone at Chelsea would disagree with that.

    ReplyDelete
  73. This seems like the same over confidence we had when Chelsea denied us the title last season. All Mourinho has to do is park the bus for 120 mins (Away goals comes into effect) and hit us on the counter. It's usually our mistakes that comeback to bite us against Mourinho. BR hasn't won against Mourinho at Anfield in 3 attempts, expecting him to out fox Mourinho at Stamford Bridge is a little too optimistic. Unless they have a stinker, Liverpool at best can hope for 2-2 draw.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Of course but how much do we have to spend to find a player of the same quality? That is why it is crucial to make him sign an improved contract so that when he goes we get the money we need to replace him.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I've got my eye on that result too, secretly.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Come on guy's.......both of your opinions is completely opposed, just state that you're disagree with some reasons that all........like I'm saying now that liverpool will go through fonal with 0-1 score line...........(with finger crossed of course) YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  77. Rule no 1 if you want to win the match, never use sterling as a striker, ballo or even borini or lambert is better........

    ReplyDelete
  78. Agree
Borini offers very little apart from diving when anyone gets anywhere near him and misses too many chances when he does get in the position to score .

    ReplyDelete
  79. It can't descend when it's always at gutter level anyway

    ReplyDelete
  80. Chelsea gonna thrash you HAHAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  81. Haha fuck that will never happen

    ReplyDelete
  82. Woooo hooo!!! yeeee... Hahaha, booo Liverpool!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Back four.
    Lukas, Can, Hendo.
    Gerrard, Couts, Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  84. If Johnson or Allen plays. Rogers is a fool & we will lose

    ReplyDelete
  85. In my opinion, what he's trying to do is pitch himself as the primary goalscorer of the team which is why he's asking for so much money.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Not really afraid of Chelsea/Mourinho per se; more wary of history. Chelsea very rarely lose two home games in a row, and I can't see that changing tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Agreed. A nice, well-written post, but wildly overconfident. Liverpool haven't earned the right to gloat and/or be overconfident this season.

    ReplyDelete
  88. It is not about this season, or the last. It is about this being Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  89. 'Being Liverpool' means nothing. it's just a label. Consistent performances over a long period of time are what matter, and this season, LFC's good form is the exception, not the rule.

I agree it's not about last season, but past history cannot be ignored. Chelsea have one of the best home records in Europe over a long period of time; it's something ingrained in the club, and that definitely counts for something.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Being Liverpool means a lot. Wouldn't be a fan, if it didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  91. We've got Ibe who has got bigger quality. Weshould just make sure we make enough profit when he leaves.

    ReplyDelete
  92. You sure that 2-2 doesn't get us through after 90?

  96. 2-2? there are no away goals in this competition, you have to win to go through, so its a must win unfortunately and I think we will lose because of the first result at home, got very little hopes but will keep them until we concede two, we may have a chance of winning in normal or extra time but no way on pens, mignolets a joke coutouois great, just remember boro!!

  97. Agreed. But I think Chelsea are favourites although I would never admit that.

It has nothing to do with history that is in the past by definition and cannot affect the future. It's just the fact that they have a very good team - now

  98. 'Being Liverpool' means something to fans, of course, but when it comes to results, it means nothing.

Just 'being Liverpool' doesn't win games.

  99. If you explain it to the players, it does.

  100. I consider it a rather weak argument to point out the difference between the words "may" and "will". Simply using a more passive language doesn't take away the fundamental meaning of what you're saying.

Well your headlines use the word hubris and suffer, and it sounds very much like an assertion to me, and it certainly is a like or dislike that corresponds to what is good or bad for LFC. I can bring out the dictionary definitions if you want, no words twisted, and even quote you the examples. Though the last time I did that you stopped replying.

Look I don't think it's bad to just come out to say I was wrong. A lot of your assertions (strong opinions/beliefs, go look up the dictionary) certainly sound like that is the best thing to do for the club, and that's what Adam is saying, that it isn't necessarily so. He makes sense, but you are attacking his words and meaning, wrongly in fact.
