After Liverpool's early- exit from the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers is reportedly a dead man walking at Anfield, and according to The Times, Andre Villas Boas is FSG's 'shock' top choice to replace the Reds' beleaguered boss. What do fans think about this, though?
On Monday, The Times claimed that:
* AVB is currently FSG's leading candidate to replace Rodgers at Anfield.
* The group have asked AVB to 'provide details of his coaching methods'.
I conducted a poll on the site this week asking fans whether AVB is a viable option to replace Rodgers:
* 11750 visitors (approx - poll is still ongoing) participated.
* A whopping 93% of visitors voted NO to AVB.
That is probably the most emphatic result of any poll conducted on this site, and it basically represents a massive vote of no-confidence in AVB's ability to make a difference at Anfield.
Luckily, Villas Boas doesn't appear to be interested. When asked on Tuesday about the Liverpool rumours, he told reporters:
"I’m very happy at Zenit. Returning to England is not in my plans"
Despite this, AVB is currently the new bookmakers' favourite to replace Rodgers, which is very worrying. The current top candidates are:
* AVB
* Rafa Benitez
* Jurgen Klopp
* Frank De Boer
* Guus Hiddink
* Jamie Carragher
* Laurent Blanc

I missed the vote, but I would vote NO as well.
ReplyDeleteIneffective at both Chelsea and Spurs.
I think NGCtC is the only one who voted in favor, which is surprising seeing as how most of his opinions are on the level. That egg is crack-proof.
ReplyDeleteNow Simeone is in the mix
ReplyDeleteThe only options should be: Klopp, Benitez & Simeone. The criteria must be proven track record at taking average team and breaking monopoly in league. Rafa did it with Valencia winning league above both Real & Barcelona, Klopp with Dortmund beating Munich to win the league and Simeone with Atletico...forget nation, age, etc,...get someone who has proven track record of doing what needs to be done to take LFC back to the top
ReplyDeleteIf AVB becomes our manager, I will lose all faith in fsg. The guy has not even lasted two full seasons at any club. This is not the guy who will take us to the top but one who will take us to the bottom.
ReplyDeleteApparently City could be his destination if Mr Burns gets the sack
ReplyDeleteMan, that guy! Such a legend.
ReplyDeleteExactly and until or unless we have someone like that the change does not make sense. All these " sack him now" people are not thinking about what happens next. It's short-termist and that is no good for club.
ReplyDeleteNeva gonna crack
ReplyDeleteNeva gonna crack
Neva gonna crack
Neva gonna crack
Neva gonna crack THE CODE!
He can't speak English.
ReplyDeleteLiterally, he can't speak the language.
Neither can Pocchetino. Van Gaal is questionable :-)
ReplyDeleteFor me Frank de Boer is the only viable, suitable candidate. I can't see Klopp moving now his team is through in the CL. Benitez is about as good a candidate as Kenny was. Lots of sentiment but sentimental choices are often the worst ones. Hiddink just started with the Dutch national team and Blanc hasn't done anything worth while after Bordeaux. Carragher, well I think we can all agree it's a bit early for him. Actually, De Boer would probably be looking to bring in a few former players in his backroom staff and for that Carragher would be ideal. Back to De Boer. Ajax just made it into the Europa League as well but he really doesn't have anything left to prove in Amsterdam. He's won the league three or four times in a row, has put a good team together considering the budget he has and he's got a few good results in Europe. He's brought stability back to the club. I can see it now. Bergkamp and Carra as his assistants. Hyypia as a defensive coach. That would definitely work for me.
ReplyDeleteVery few good managers out there. I would like to see Rafa or Simeone.
ReplyDeletePocchetino can speak English. He could before this season but chose not to on telly.
ReplyDelete"here here"
ReplyDeleteKlopp, Simone and Benitez are the only 3 managers who have taken an average team and won the league beating established hierarchy (Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich) as that is what we need, why the hell would we look at anyone else...Frying Pan - Fire springs to mind! .
ReplyDeleteKlopp won't leave Dortmund until the summer. Simeone also has no reason to leave Atletico but he anyway inherited a squad with Courtois and Diego Costa in it. Not that weird that he won the title. Let's see him do it again this year. Benitez. Yes he won league titles way back when with Valencia but he also has a reputation of causing a stir everywhere he goes.
ReplyDeleteIf this is wrong to post this here please forgive me Jamie & delete this......
ReplyDeleteFrom Mike Bernard ( Former FSG Guy).....on his twitter feed
Some news on Brendan Rodgers. FSG have had talks over the past 24 hours and will meet again following the Christmas run of games (1/2)
It appeared FSG would back him until the end of the season but a
breakdown behind the scenes may force a revaluation of the position
(2/2)
In other words, depending on what happens over the Christmas period, it
looks like it could be the end of the road for Brendan Rodgers.
The problem stems from the Committee and Rodgers failing to see
eye-to-eye on signings and it seems to be getting a little unsavory now
The festive period will certainly be interesting off the field too as
both Werner/Henry are expected on Merseyside to resolve issues
good shout!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRodgers is as good as gone. I have said many times before, FSG did not invest 100's of millions to finish mid table.
ReplyDeleteFrank de Boer and a proper DOF. That is what I would like to see.
ReplyDeleteFrank De Boer is my first choice too.He would bring Bergkamp as his assistant. If that combination can't attract top quality players, we have no chance!
ReplyDeleteAnd will bring attacking football too :-)
ReplyDeleteI forgot what attacking football looks like:)
ReplyDeleteVillas Boas is a fantastic choice to replace Rodgers
ReplyDelete1) He has won trophies i think he went unbeaten as well that year he won treble with Fc Porto
2) Knows English game , he has had plenty of time to reflect upon what went wrong towards end of spurs but first season he was awesome despite losing Modric to Real
3)He attracts big name players like Soldado,Mata,Lamela,Erikson,Paulinho ,Vertoghan,Cahill,
most did not do well but were big names prior
Yeah, we are dreadful.
ReplyDeleteIgnoring the first part Logan? About signings.
ReplyDeleteKlopp first, then De Boer. Seen reports regarding Simeone but I don't believe that he would want to work in England. If he does, then he would be tied with Klopp for me. If we are to get rid of Brendan, it should only be for a proven winner of one of Europe's top leagues.
ReplyDeleteJason Carr's child.
ReplyDeleteHow's that working out for him in Norf London?
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, except for Benitez. Time to stop looking in the past.
ReplyDeleteIgnoring what? FSG would not have ok'd any money if they did not get approval of the players from Rodgers. Now it is a case of who is to blame because FSG are in town to sort out the mice from the men.
ReplyDeleteI would like to officially announce my intentions to apply for Brendan's position.
ReplyDeleteBackroom staff:
Will- Assistant Manager
Nick1811- Head of player analysis
Bob Loblaw- Head of Youth Dev
Twistadee (I think that's his name, you know the guy who always includes players ages in his comments)- As Chief scout obviously
Nevercrackthecode- Director of football of course!
Eric, JayJay, Islesfan74,SidLFC, Chirag Vyas, Loganlfc and BEAST as 1st team coaches.
I have missed a few but don't worry, I'll ensure to keep backroom recruitment open.
Jamie ol boy, I'm afraid you didn't make the cut, I can't be bias ;0P
Can you please let me know if you accept my offer?
Sincerely,
FdotM
Future Liverpool FC manager
I agree with you apart from Hyypia as a coach. The guy is a manager now, he is not going to willingly take a demotion back to being a coach nor should he. Bergkamp will probably take over when De Boer leaves.
ReplyDeleteHa ha. I am on board mate!
ReplyDeleteWe should wait until the summer to get either Klopp or Simeone. If De Boer had won the title in a better league, he would be on the same level as them. Having Courtois and Costa aint nothing compared to the wealth of talent both Barca and Real had yet were unable to win the league.
ReplyDeletei'm kinda sad now
ReplyDeleteohh...I didn't make the cut :(
ReplyDeleteWill fly out today. Please gather 5 gallons of liquor (nothing clear), 3 plucked hens, 1 axe, and a how-to book on working with children waiting for me.
ReplyDeleteIf the Codeman is our DOF, we will be relegated for sure.
ReplyDeleteyou forgot sheikh shamsey
ReplyDeleteRodgers will play Balotelli up on his own regardless.
ReplyDeleteSad but true.
Rodgers will definitely play this team
ReplyDeleteMignolet
Johnson-Lovren-Skrtel-Enrique
Lucas
Hendo-Allen-Gerrard
Sterling
Balotelli
Yes so that means FSG decided they were just going to waste money for the sake of it because Rodgers did not agree to the players.
ReplyDeleteWhy would they then need to come and sort things out?
Forget Will, make me your right hand man.I'll even throw in security when you get Liverpool relegated and receive de4th threats:-)
ReplyDeleteBring your maids with you.For half time entertainment.
ReplyDeleteRodgers will play this team
ReplyDeleteMignolet
Johnson Sktrtel Lovren Moreno
Lucas Allen
Henderson Gerrard Lallana
Lambert or Balotelli
Let's hope not. That's a recipe for a spanking.
ReplyDeleteRodgers selections are too predictable. He goes with players he trusts which I like to call his mates. His selections have been nothing more than a recipe for a spanking all season long. Arrogance.
ReplyDeleteThings are simple to you aren't they? Very black and white. Obviously they don't want to waste money but have said more than once that the want the club to run itself. They set up a committee so as decisions would be made by the majority and all this would include the MD. The disconnect between other members and manager has apparently caused problems and obviously results are poor. There are probably more than one reason for FSG reps to come in person.
ReplyDeleteYep something like that or similar. Mine would likely (if Balotelli is fit) be a diamond. Can and Hendo on each side of Lucas with Sterling at the tip and Balo and Markovic up front. All three of those last lads want to play someone in the hole but hopefully can be fluid enough to move out to wings and play off the shoulder as needed. If no Balo then Gerrad. We need someone with physical presence up there and so perhaps even Lambert.
ReplyDeleteYou can be the ball boy
ReplyDeletelets hope you are as good as newcastles one
I cannot work with Twistadee i am sorry , his scouting is not to my taste , i dont want Tiote and Pedro at liverpool
ReplyDeletei will have to pass up your offer.
I think Jaimie should take up my slot he wanted Bony and Erkisen etc
We would win the treble under me but i cannot work with Loganlfc
ReplyDeleteWe have different ideas about pressing
What it sounds like to me is who can save their job now by blaming and pointing figures at others.
ReplyDeleteIf FSG had the idea that Rodgers was not at fault then they would have sacked the entire committee already like they got shot of Commolli.
This time it is a bit different as there is more than one hand in the honey pot and that includes the hand of Rodgers.
Oh how I miss Jason... his confrontations with JK were always classic bouts.
ReplyDeleteThe treble... The leakiest defence, least goals scored and worst points total:-)
ReplyDeleteI have decided that I will be taking the job of DOF. You are the weakest link. Goodbye ;-)
ReplyDeleteAll right, I'll be the striker...
ReplyDeleteAnd anyone who uses the word "brilliant" or the phrase "I can't fault him" will be fired on the spot!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd prefer to see the following:
ReplyDeleteMignolet
Manquillo, Skrtel, Toure, Moreno
Lucas
Lallana Markovic
Gerrard
Sterling Balotelli
Talk about bringing a knife to a gun fight
ReplyDeleteHe knows the english game so well he got fired twice in a matter of two years by two separate teams.
ReplyDeleteI believe he can manage under the right circumstances.
But I wouldn't go anywhere near him right now.
Not sure about Markovic as a CM. All we need from this guy is to use his pace and attract the opposition like flies creating space for other players to score the goals. Stick Markovic up top I say.
ReplyDeleteHaha, no worries. I prefer to be on the outside looking in, anyway.
ReplyDeleteA word of warning, though: just because you, Islesfan, Nick, Jay Jay, Bob, Will, Eric, Sid, Chirag, Logan, Beast, Twistadee et al are all valued posters here, don't for one second think that buys you any extra time to get it right at LFC. If you make the same old mistakes, I will highlight them, and ensure your heads are on the chopping block.
I can't be biased, either ;-)
Hahahaha, you didn't mention codecracker...
ReplyDeleteThat awkward moment when you realize you were never part of the cool kids....
ReplyDeleteThat awkward moment when you realize you are listed in the same group as NGCtC...
ReplyDeleteCan't fault that reasoning. Brilliant stipulation, mate.
ReplyDeleteI have lost any faith I might of had after the team selection against basel. It was a game we needed to win and BR completely bottled it. I wouldn't of minded if he went for it and we lost, at least he would of shown some fighting spirit but instead all he did was probably destroy the confidence of those players he brought even more.
ReplyDeleteThen there is Borini. I do not understand what he has against him. He sent him on loan last season and I do not see what he could of done at Sunderland.
He scored a number of vital goals against the top teams and played his heart out in every game yet he has been treated disgracefully.
It hurts haha
ReplyDeleteI said 'et al', which includes him. I just couldn't be bothered to write the full user name ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou always need a mascot in a football club. Ngctc fills that role perfectly if you ask me
ReplyDeleteIf you fire the club above manunited I'm fine with that
ReplyDeleteit was supposed to have him out wide when i typed it but alas it was shifted left
ReplyDeleteJason was a nice lad, I really do miss him posting here
ReplyDeleteOur team will be full of divers, cheats, and those who steal cookies from the cookie jar.
ReplyDeleteAll players will be required to carry razor blades in their socks so when they get hit, they'll cut themselves to draw red cards for the other team.
And I'm also proposing individual entrances with theme music and all, sort of a like a wrestling match. If only Andy Carroll were still on the team, he'd definitely be walking out to boyzone with Kenny Dalglish. Suarez would have used Duran Duran's Hungry Like a Wolf, or Fine Young Cannibals' She Drives Me Crazy.
And every now and then, if Andy were being harrassed, Kenny would run on to the field while the ref isn't looking and deliver a sucker punch to knock out the defender so Andy goes one on one with the goalie.
Get ready for a mind blowing experience!
This team will not lose. And Mourinho will be insanely jealous. What's not to love?
Most of the committee are new and Perhaps they are about to find out what's what and who really is to blame. Commolli wasn't sacked in the first half of the season was he? And if I am.not mistaken two of the scouting team have already butvtha dust. Perhaps the start of said clearout. I am in no way Saying Rodgers deserves no blame but I am wholly unconvinced that signings are his domain.
ReplyDeleteOr he can change his name to NeverGonnaCracktheBone and be the new physio.
ReplyDeleteHe's actually been learning the language. That's one of the reasons for speculation.
ReplyDeleteYou never know
ReplyDeleteThat is not the point. Each and every club has a scouting system which the manager will work from. Our scouting system has been branded with the fancy name of the "Transfer Committee". The manager at every club will confirm his requirements and the scouts will go looking for the players and in return the manager will go and study those players that have been scouted.
ReplyDeleteTo much emphasis is being put on the fancy name of the 'transfer committee'.
Balotelli will walk out to the "sorry-you've-lost-better-luck-next-time" tuba blurt from The Price Is Right.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with there being people who hold similar roles thre strength of those individuals in making transfers is lesser than what we have been led to believe the committee does. They as a team make signings whereas at other clubs there will be one person getting the suggestions of his staff but could still sign players they want. Ie Williams and Bony. Whether that person is the manager or dof.
ReplyDeleteOr the Super Mario Theme Song... doot doot doot dadootdadoot
ReplyDeleteManagers would get eaten alive these days if they didn't have spectacular ego's and stubborn determination.
ReplyDeleteThe days of cardigans and slippers are long gone - you only have to look to that role model for all managers - Jose Mourinho - to see what is the norm - or what players look up to and aspire to be perhaps one dya s a manager themselves.
Live or die by their decisions is what they Have to do - Brendan would be overwhelmed at LFC if he tried to be gentle, humble and submissive - we are just too big a club and our detractors are too plenty and too spiteful.
I don't know if he will survive this level of critisism from outside the club and, as it looks to me reading on this site among others, from inside the club (I mean us) too.
But I do wonder who on earth, apart from NGCTC, wants AVB; who could this 7% be and are they in touch with an all-seeing, all-knowing oracle or maybe that psychic Sally the one who does celebrities (she's quite good actually!) - but I still don't get it - do they see something I don't?
Someone mentioned he has a 'great' reputation and 'name' and can attract big players - ones who would probably move mountains for him .....umm.....Yeah, okay, but do they mean players like that dynamic powerhouse Eric Lamella for £30 mill?!? The one who hit the ground running and was a dead-cert to fire up the premier league?
You guys would probably correct me but I'm not really convinced that AVB got that right, among other transfers....but I may be wrong......
When your backs to the wall tried and trusted over the rest unfortunately its nearly always the way everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI have already ordered my seats for championship games.
ReplyDeleteHe's so flexible - rodgers would surely love to have him in his squad
ReplyDeleteAnd i am John Henry your fired Logan.
ReplyDelete"Get Stuffed".
ReplyDeleteThat's your best headline so far, Jaimie.
How pleased I would have been if we'd signed Christian Eriksen. What a phenomenal player to watch.
ReplyDeleteMy fear is that we get a DOF like Damien Comolli or Joe Kinnear :(
ReplyDeleteIt's a poisoned chalice anyway.
ReplyDeleteThen he's the ideal mane striker.
ReplyDeleteBased on what this Mike Bernard oke has said, Rodgers might be not playing the new signings to make a very risky point to the board. His selections are otherwise baffling.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't doubt it..
ReplyDeleteThe way things are going I doubt Hyypa will be a manager much longer
ReplyDelete
