Incredible Deal: LFC set to sign £30m Argentina star for 75% discount

During the summer transfer window, Liverpool were regularly linked with a move for Paris St. Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi, and it now appears that the Reds are close to sealing a January deal for the 'phenomenal' attacker.

In October, The Mirror claimed that Liverpool were planning a gigantic £30m January offer for Lavezzi, but according to new reports today:

* Lavezzi Lavezzi is 'set for' for a move to LFC for a knockdown fee of £8m.

* That's a 75% discount on the reported £30m valuation in October.

* Lavezzi is allegedly 'unsettled' at PSG, and wants to leave.

It's easy to see Lavezzi's appeal to Rodgers:

* Versatile, and can play as striker, or out wide.
* Works very hard on the field, and is good defensively.
* Has pace, which is always a plus for any attacking player.

Lavezzi is the archetypal Rodgers player, and Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella underlined this in June, when he highlighted his positive influence. He enthused:

"Players like Lavezzi are always very positive, because they keep players happy. They keep a nice atmosphere in the group. And Lavezzi is an excellent player. He never makes negative comments, and he is always supporting the team."

Creative stats for PSG:

* 25 goals/17 assists in 108 appearances,
* Goal every 4.3 games.
* Goal/assist every 2.5 games.

With Sturridge's susceptibility to injury, it's a priority to have another quality forward player who is seemingly impervious to injury, and Lavezzi - nicknamed 'The Beast' by the Argentina media - certainly fits the bill:

* 296 appearances in the last 7 years.
* Averages 40 games a season.
* Missed only 12 games through injury in the last 10 years.

For a comparatively measly price of £8m, Lavezzi is a great player to have in the squad, for the following reasons:

* Huge Champions League experience, which is lacking in LFC's current squad.
* The finished article, and capable of coming in and making an immediate impact.
* Superior option to both Borini, Lambert, and (possibly) Balotelli.
* Will improve the overall quality of the squad.
* Will score and create goals to help fill the Suarez void.

* Steady, consistent player who rarely gets injured.
* Strong, hard-working, and physical presence on the field. Perfect fit for the Prem.
* Unlikely to moan if he's not in the starting line-up every week.
* Young players like Coutinho, Sterling, and Markovic can learn from his experience.

Is Lavezzi a good option, or do the Reds need to sign a dedicated out-and-out striker?

  1. I'm not sure he's the long term solution to our recent striker issues but if he's available in January then it's a no-brainer. He'll be another very capable attacking player to slot in alongside Sterling and Lallana. I do think we still need to look for a goal scoring centre forward, someone who can step up when Sturridge is injured. Lavezzi's scoring record isn't quite good enough in that regard. However he'll fit in very well with our style of play and given our current solution is to play without any true strikers at all he's a good option.

  2. 18m that was talked about in summer was way too much

8m on the other hand... I wouldn't mind. Wouldn't be the worse deal possible.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I agree 100%. Lavezzi was seemingly our 2nd choice Suarez replacement (behind Sanchez, of course). But the transfer failed to materialise in the Summer. I just hope that the convincing win against Swansea doesn't lull the powers that be into thinking that a proper centre forward is not necessary.

  4. I would have thought you would be bemoaning his creative stats.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Strong, versatile player that would fit the PL perfectly. Great going forward and strong enough to take on PL defences. Would fit the LFC ethos and significantly improve the team.

    This is a NO Brainer!

Buy this quality addition. and if this pans out ?

    Welcome to LFC Ezequiel Lavezzi...

  6. No brainier at 8m. Makes up for are my, and far less likely to be injured .

    bye Fabio

    ReplyDelete
  7. 2 goals in 18 games (909minutes played) this season, sure he has a lot of experience and is hardworking but buying another forward who doesn't score is not the best options for Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He's still not the kind of forward player we need to back-up Sturridge, but he is a very good player and would suit our style. For that money, it is a no-brainer (though his wages are likely mental).

  9. cmon sturridge fix them legs1:44 am, December 30, 2014

get him for 8 doumbia for 20 get a cb and play can beside gerrard ..drop lucas and toure at a bus stop in iceland

    ReplyDelete
  10. Is there an extra place in the bus for Johnson as well?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lavezzi and Lacazette...

    ReplyDelete
  12. ok here's my list..... yohan cabaye to replace gerarrd,,,, cech to replace mignolet..... schneiderlin for competition against Lucas

    ReplyDelete
  13. For that amount, its a bargain. Lvpl shud immediately thash out a deal instead of dilly dally n loose out to Spurs, Chelsea or MU as the likes of Eriksen, Sallah n Falcao

    ReplyDelete
  14. We do not need him. It will just take away the chance for Ibe to have his chance to shine. We have enough wide players and clearly need to sign a proper striker so spending money on Lavezzi would be the wrong move.

Many other rumours also saying he is going back to Italy to join Inter.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agree. For someone playing for a dominant team they look poor and the fact he cannot get in the side could be a warning. damn I am starting to sound like JK.

    ReplyDelete
  16. A game ago the "Team" bus would have been overloaded......

    ReplyDelete
  17. we don't really need him...

off topic: what did you guys make of Sterlings performance yesterday?
Even though he did not seem to be happy with his performance I think he's been brilliant, linking up with the others very well and carrying defenders away to open up spaces for cou and lallana. Raheem seems to have all the instincts to play as a striker. I thought he was extremely unfortunate not to find the back of the net 2 times, but played an extremely important role yesterday

    ReplyDelete
  18. Agree. He worried them which left more space for Couts and Lallana.

Sometimes he should not have tried a shot but hey even I am not perfect

    ReplyDelete
  19. Given his age I think he's a frightening prospect. Suarez wasn't the finished article when he arrived at Liverpool and he was 24 at the time. Sterling is no Suarez, yet, but he has those same basic set of qualities: intensity, dribbling, passing, pace, good positional sense, runs the lines well and can score. If he continues to improve he'll be a real star in world football, potentially world class.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Him just being there scares team Fernandez never once left his side and Willaims was always wary
Baloa nd Lambo cant do that

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'd say he's coming along nicely in that role, but *doesn't* yet have the killer instincts of a striker. His impulse is still mostly to dribble or pass, and that's to be expected from a player whose primary role has been as a winger. That was typified yesterday by a chance where a first time shot might have bagged him a goal but instead he looked to dribble and lay the ball off. He's getting there though, and was pretty unlucky not to get on the score sheet yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  22. He had three nice chances its encouraging he is getting in ythoose positions suarez used to

First one was saved by fabainski where the blkl hit him lallana missed rebound

second one he hit the post really unlucky

third one whewre he rounded the keepr but ball was too close to the goal

    ReplyDelete
  23. Still think Sterling is most suited to the number 10 role. Last season was evident of that but Sterling up top by far the better option right now than having Lambert or Balotelli running arond like headless chickens and causing very little problems for the opposition.

Would like to see Markovic given a shot alongside Borini with Sterling right behind them. I have been calling for Rodgers to have mobility and pace up top for how long now and only now has realised whatever he did before did not work. Swansea did not know what hit them but fact of the matter is that our defence is still shaky and Mignolet still looks like a nervous wreck so the only way we will get results is to press the opposition and leave their defences no idea who to mark from our attack.

I will have a fit if Rodgers goes with Balotelli or Lambert up on their own again.

    ReplyDelete
  24. at that time, there was a lot of frustration in his game.
after all he's still a teenager, I also won't judge him on his little clap on fernandez. there's clearly to much pressure on him

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree. For me, the number one thing he needs to improve is composure. Sometimes he will show it- e.g. v City at Anfield last season- but other times he won't. His composure not only determines his decision making, but the quality of the action he undertakes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. if Rodgers sells lucas a world-class Dm and a goalie are our first priorities ......Rodgers also needs to make his mind up on our central defenders ....mingo did some decent saves but his footwork is beyond terrible ,i stated before yesterdays games that swansea like us ball watch at the back and are susceptible to high pressing and lallanas goal was testament to that ( game clincher ) if you gonna build from the back we need a goalie with quick feet it is a must for the system Rodgers plays

    ReplyDelete
  27. I read another report somewhere saying he was off to Inter Milan along with Podolski. £30 million would've been pretty ridiculous given that he's approcaching his 30s; at £8 million he'd be a very nifty signing. However I can't help feeling that we have bigger priorities - namely a keeper and an out-and-out striker, so maybe any available cash would be better invested there first.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Probably would've needed to book a few taxis as well.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dare I say too similar?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Would prefer Lacazette

    ReplyDelete
  31. Very pricey. Can you get six-seater tuktuks?

    ReplyDelete
  32. On a more positive note for me, Skrtel is suspended for the next match so this is a chance to see whether our defence is less panicking without him.

Lovren still out injured so I am assuming we will see a back three of Can, Toure and Sakho vs Leicester .

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hopefully Lovren is back for that one

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like the idea of Toure and Sakho together

    ReplyDelete
  35. No more average pl players when will FSG learn

    Andy Carroll
    Charlei Adam

players with half a good season

    ReplyDelete
  36. I want Lovren and Sakho

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, Skrtel should have been dropped long time ago. One of Rodgers mates of course.

    ReplyDelete
  38. did john used to play rugby because if he did it would explain why mingo kicks the ball into touch so often .....if your gonna kick it out at least hoof it down the field

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cant Dudek coach them ?

    ReplyDelete
  40. True liked that he done that just get rid of it

But this might be one reason we sign Bony he is unbelievably powerful he will get most of those balls

    ReplyDelete
  41. if hes fit and in the right team carroll is not average

    ReplyDelete
  42. Okay but we still bought him when he only had a good 4 months
Berahino had a good 6 weeks only he si on west brom bench as well

    ReplyDelete
  43. Demon in the air, could have been a decent plan B but you cannot expect him to collect dust on the bench at the age of 25.

    ReplyDelete
  44. without services bony is very ltd

    ReplyDelete
  45. Would like to have Garay with Sakho when Toure goes next summer

    ReplyDelete
  46. Please he was not that good in the air
He was just tall , i remember at old tratford Rafael beat him to an ariel ball

Tim Cahill was a deamon in the air and so is Bony

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well Johnson and Toure will be leaving on a free so maybe we can cash in on Skrtel and sign another adept right CB or just give Ilori a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lovren,Iloris,Wisdom

we have a lot of options there

    ReplyDelete
  49. If 8 mill, then other teams might come up and swoop him. If Borini leaves, then this deal might get financed by that money. Good player. Would be nice to have him.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Maybe but i liked how he brang Dyer and Routledge in agme at times
and still got in the box
tahts the difference between Balotelli and Bony

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bony just a younger version of Lambert. Bony is not what we need.

We need someone with pace and who can create something out of nothing i.e. Lacazette.

    ReplyDelete
  52. he doesnt suit the system we play thats why he failed....its actually hard to find a good cf to suit our system ...as he needs to be able to interchange with the front 3

    ReplyDelete
  53. He is too old
we need an out and out striker
    not a winger/Striker

    ReplyDelete
  54. if im honest i dont any of them 3 are good enough for the level we need

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree Lacazette is exciting but as most people say why would he join us , Lyon ahve s new stadium are reaching cl places
if he leaves it wont be for us
A PSG or Arsenal will probably on his mind

    ReplyDelete
  56. If we do buy a center half it has to be cheap
    9m at most
we spend more then all other top teams in defense yet we always buy wrong players

Alderweild from Athletico looks a nice option might be an expensive with a good season for southapton can see arsenal in for him
Winston Reid on a free ?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lucas was excellent last night. People have been crying out for a defensive midfielder but we already have one on the books, yes he's not the most mobile of players but neither was Hamann.

    ReplyDelete
  58. On another note u seen wot NBC were calling Juan Mata? Marijuana Mata

    ReplyDelete
  59. Got a feeling that Sterling will get a ban for what he did last night. If the F.A charge Shelvey then I think Sterling will get charged too, don't think they'll do one without the other.

    ReplyDelete
  60. have you even seen him play

    ReplyDelete
  61. Half the problem we have at the moment is that we have looked to much in to "the long term solution"..maybe right now we need a short term fix?

    ReplyDelete
  62. did you see Carrolls header vs swansea in daglsih full season just a simple knock missed a sitter

carroll could not head downwards but straight at goal
i also remmeber at anfield vs city headed it straight at joe hart
also vs chelsea in fa cup final if eh headed it down its a goal

    ReplyDelete
  63. berahino is another overrated overpaid british player when will LFC fans ever learn?

    ReplyDelete
  64. 99% british players are rubbish overpaid over weight and overrated

    ReplyDelete
  65. gerrard out the team.... looks like it worked hate to say but i was right all along

    ReplyDelete
  66. i submit to your greater logic ,while i think about it duncan ferguson wasnt that good either in the air

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well you were not the only one saying it
and we also wanted Sterling up front al season and Emre and Sakho in lien up

rdogers can takje credit for formation though

    ReplyDelete
  68. There aren't many LFC fans that want him you mong

    ReplyDelete
  69. comapre them to Tim Cahill and Chamack no tehy are not

    ReplyDelete
  70. T0o be fair even though he plays for england he aint english but African
Same way Llalana is englsih but has a spanish grandad so it was alright buying him

    ReplyDelete
  71. A good op[tion up front could be Erik Lamela
he can play that false 9 rodgers wants
    or Joel Campbell

    ReplyDelete
  72. You're joking.

    ReplyDelete
  73. To be honest i dont know how Duncan Ferguson
    is
is he related to Alex Ferguson ?

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am looking for cheap options like Sturridge in 2013

    ReplyDelete
  75. Carroll is more dominant in the air than the Burj Khalifa.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Pretty clear that these "cheap options" are no longer needed.

    ReplyDelete
  77. joel Campbell is a good shout for me
    has pace,skill,power,acceleration,intensity

reminds me of Sturriudge and Coutinho

Went out on loan to bolton and espanyol respectively, done great there but cant get a look in

    ReplyDelete
  78. How does Rafael out jump him then

    ReplyDelete
  79. If be cannot get a look in at Arsenal, then he should not here.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Like Sturridge at chelsea?
    Coutinho at Inter?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Because it all revolves around jumping.

    ReplyDelete
  82. 2/11 or so similar players.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Look he missed some sitters in hsi time with us with his head
    like vs swansea,city,wolves ,chelsea
he was incapable of heading downwards

    ReplyDelete
  84. it is like Arsenal buying Welbeck off utd
soem palyers just need a chance

    ReplyDelete
  85. 10-15 m for Perrin apparently - the quote was the next Buffon or maybe the next buffoon and it was spelling mistake

    ReplyDelete
  86. I had to Google want that was you well travelled bar steward. At least some of them could pull them which would save money too.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I understand if it is seen and no action taken they cannot punish retrospectively. And as someone pointed out last night if they did not see it they need to find another use for the corner stick.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yeah but to fair most of them are playing in Sunday leagues and for pub teams.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Sarah Ferguson's husband

    ReplyDelete
  90. Agreed but he is nearly average and getting there with every game.
If his career lasts long enough and injuries permitting he could well become average

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm led to believe that of the assistant ref saw it and decided it was fine at the time he cannot be done retrospectivly. He cannot say he didn't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Considering the team he played with and opposition he faced, his creative stats for PSG are not very good.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Good call. Lucas is currently one of our most 'in form' players; it's no accident that we've looked more assured defensively since he's had a little run in the team.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Agree composure tends to come with age. I am much more mellow now than I was and if anyone disagrees they can f*** off or they'll get a good kicking.

    ReplyDelete
  95. So you might say he's more Reggie Perrin than Mattia Perin?

    ReplyDelete
  96. And Wenger would apparently rather have Sanogo than Podolski: it boggles the mind.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I think the weakness of Real was caused by laughing too much - sad to say

    ReplyDelete
  98. I just wish someone had said something earlier

    ReplyDelete
  99. If we are going to sign a palyer on potential route
    rather have Perez then Berahino
a real live wire that perez

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well happy 21st birthday for yesterday or something...

    ReplyDelete
  101. I hope your right mate, but if the linesman has seen it and thinks doing that is ok then I think maybe he needs to find another job. Although it wasn't a full blown haymaker Sterling punched the guy in the face, if it was one of our players on the receiving end I think we'd all be calling for the FA to ban the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  102. at that point we will resign him

    ReplyDelete
  103. So would I mate but let's hope we are lucky. Hopefully neither Shelvey nor Sterling get any action so noone can complain.

    ReplyDelete
  104. lamela is not a cheap option stop talking BS

    ReplyDelete
  105. that's what Neville was talking about after the match. surely the linesman saw it and decided that it's not a foul. FA can't do anything there

    ReplyDelete
  106. who the hell cares for the origin of some players granddad? the point is he's an english player, so he will be extremely overpriced because the media etc. hype those players extremely. that's why we shouldn't even waste time trying to sign him.

    ReplyDelete
