BR raves: €15m 'God of football' who loves Liverpool is a 'great talent'. Anfield bound?

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Norwegian starlet Martin Odegaard, and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has now responded to reports linking the Reds with a move for the €15m-rated youngster.

When asked in his post-Madrid press conference about Liverpool's alleged interest in Odegaard, Rodgers told reporters:

"He [Odegaard] is a great talent, but that's all I'm going to say about player at another club"

Odegaard is a self-confessed Liverpool fan, and when asked recently about speculation linking him with a move to Anfield, he told Dagbladet:

“Liverpool is my favourite club. That is not to say that I dream to play for them. I’m thriving at Stromsgodset and feel that I can develop myself right here.”

Some info about Odegaard:

* Trained with Man United and Bayern Munich last year.
* Current contract expires in 2015.
* 5 goals/3 assists in 20 apps for Stromsgodset.
* Turns 16 in December.
* Real Madrid reportedly made a €15m bid over the summer.

* 2014: Broke 104-year old record to become the youngster player to ever feature for the Norway national team (15 years and 253 days).

* Broke another record recently when he became the youngest player to ever feature in a European Championship game.

Last month, Scandinavian football expert and scout Fabrizio Bertuzzi made the following bold claim about the Odegaard's ability:

"He is like Xavi and Andres Iniesta, and features a mix of both players. Despite being an adolescent he is almost a semi-god of football."

It looks like this particular transfer rumour is set to run and run. Odegaard does look like a special player, but he's 15 (!), and signing him is hardly a major priority. It looks like he may end up at Ajax anyway, which is (arguably) the best move he could make at such a young age.

  1. If Ajax go for him, thats definitely a good move. However, we should still keep an eye on him. If he's really an LFC fan, we shouldn't have much of a problem signing him 5 years down the road from Ajax anyway, assuming he does come good...

  2. Yeah, it's in everyone's interests to let the lad go to Ajax, I reckon.

  3. So Rodgers again starts with one up top last night and again we do not even pose a threat.

    Total of 4 shots at goal and one on target. Pathetic.

    Dig your grave further Rodgers. You get what you give.

  5. Let's be honest, if he come to us he would be placed in the u21.

    I think we should buy him and loan him to Ajax for a few seasons. Until he is 18-19. Then a german club

  6. Well I think we best offer 20 million for him.

  7. I agree he'd be best off going to a competition like the Dutch one if he wants to leave Norway but the question is can Ajax compete with Man United and Bayern Munich if he should really cost 15 million? And would they want to? 15 million is a small fortune for a Dutch club so they won't easily spend that on such a young player. Dutch clubs can't waste 200 million on players and then pretend nothing happened.

  8. If I was him I would bide my time. Since he is so young and playing first team I would go to a dutch team (Ajax, PSV or Feyernoord) then move to a german club like Schalke or Borussia Mon. Then if the progress is there I would move to a bigger league and maybe settle for a while.

    I'm just gutted this kid is not in the new Football Manager...

  9. I highly doubt he's worth 15M. That's just being thrown around because Real "supposedly" made a bid. Even if there was one, it was probably more like 1.5M. He 15 for crying out loud. As much money as the giants have, their not desperate enough to spend 15M on a 15 year old that won't be available for selection for at least another 5 years given their current talent.

  10. He was picked up in a privat jet and went to Madrid yesterday.
    I think Ancelotti is slightly interested.
