'He's worse than...': Angry Reds hero urges BR to dump 'weak' €12m LFC flop. Agree?

With Liverpool actively seeking a new goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet's status as LFC's number one choice is clearly (and deservedly) under-threat, and Reds legend Bruce Grobbelaar - who criticised Mignolet extensively in the past - remains convinced that the Belgian is the main reason for his old club's defensive woes.

In April, Grobbelaar insisted that Mignolet is 'not the best all-round keeper', and offered offered the following four reasons why he's not the long term solution for LFC:

* He doesn't 'play out from the back' effectively.
* He's 'not commanding enough' in the penalty box.
* Position at free kicks is 'not right'.
* He concedes too many goals.

At the time, Grobbelaar received criticism for his harsh comments, and was forced to 'clarify' his view, but with Mignolet shipping goals at an even faster rate this season, the European Cup winner remains unimpressed, and in an interview with the BBC last night, he scathed:

"I was slaughtered last year by LFC fans for being too harsh on him, but I'm not being too harsh. You have to...get someone in goal who can actually only let in 30 goals a season, or fewer than 30 goals. I've likened Mignolet to worse than Dracula because at least Dracula comes out of his coffin now and then. He seems to stay on his line."

Grobbelaar is arguably spot-on with his assessment, and Mignolet's howler against Ludogorets tonight underlined the problem yet again:

Mignolet is a decent shot-stopper, but his distribution, positioning, and command of the penalty area often leave a lot to be desired, and the Ludogorets game now makes it 28 goals conceded in 18 games this season.

Liverpool's overall defensive frailty is partly to blame for, but last season, the Reds conceded more goals than any other team in the top four, and this year, LFC already have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League, and Mignolet has to take the lion's share of responsibility for that.

The incremental regression of goalkeeping standards at LFC is obvious:

* 2010-11 - Pepe Reina: 50 goals in 50 games (1.0 per game) - 20 clean sheets.
* 2011-12 - Pepe Reina: 48 goals in 46 games (1.04 per game) - 14 clean sheets.
* 2012-13 - Pepe Reina: 43 goals in 39 games (1.1 per game) - 17 clean sheets;
* 2013-14 - Mignolet: 53 goals in 40 games (1.3 per game) - 10 clean sheets).
* 2014-15 - Mignolet: 26 goals in 17 games (1.5 per game) - 2 clean sheets)

These stats show a clear downward spiral, and if Reina was apparently not good enough for Liverpool, what does that say about Mignolet, whose record is far worse? Liverpool are already on course to concede MORE than 53 goals this season, and without SAS's goals to paper over the cracks, that's an alarming thing to consider.

It doesn't matter how you slice it, a goalkeeper's primary role is to stop goals being conceded, and it's clear that €12m-rated Mignolet is making zero difference on that front. As such, Grobbelaar's criticism is warranted, even if it is a little harsh.

Once again, though, the buck stops with the manager. After seeing Mignolet concede 53 goals, Rodgers should've prioritised his replacement over the summer. He failed to do that, and Liverpool have suffered as a result, to the extent that it could ultimately end up costing Rodgers his job.

  1. Completely agree with Grob. It's just majorly ironic, since HE was just as bad! The only difference between the two is that Grob had a world class back 4 in front of him.

  2. Agree that he is not good enough but look at Rodgers' team defensive record, Liverpool is never going to be solid at the back if we let him organise the team defensively.
If we want to concede less goals either we should force him to have a defensive coach or get a coach that can/will bring someone who can, otherwise we're going to have the same discussion every week.

  3. mingo and most of the team is dire its as simple as that rodgers has wasted 200m and if hes given another 200m it wont make any differance

    ReplyDelete
  4. Get of Jones and Mignolet if Jones cant perform better than Mignolet has then he needs to go to.
To me Mignolet has not improved one iota on last season and obviously needs to be moved on he obviously does not have the potential they expected.

  5. Saying that Rodgers failed to replace Mignolet is not fair. Who knows if he actually wanted to replace him or maybe he wanted to replace him but FSG didn't let him, or maybe he wanted but they didn't find the right replacement. And it's not fair to say that this can cost him job since we don't know if it is his fault or not.

I'm pretty convinced that Rodgers has little to do wit signings in general. Clear sign of this is that he doesn't play some players. If he bought them he would play them as a confirmation to his signing.

I think it is now time to stop the rot
but why don't lallana, can and moreno play despite being better then all the players when they do so?
lovren should also start over skrtel who does not mak tackles just fouls or shirt grabbing
markovic is probably being readied in the weight room or i heard they want him to be physical enough so he is probably doing all that behind the scenes

    ReplyDelete
  7. if he leaves Bayern then Urinal or an Italian team will get him

    ReplyDelete
  8. I have huge respect for what you write. Couple of times you changed my mind regarding some things. Hope you are right again but naming Skrtel and Lovren as our two main CB's looks more and more ridiculous.

  9. Hahha.. 'Grob' means 'grave' in my language..

    ReplyDelete
  10. Rodgers recent statement ' it's not something I am looking at' reminds me of ' I can categorically say that Balo won't be coming to Liverpool'- it's been proven that he does not know what he's doing or what he's saying

    ReplyDelete
  11. Keep Can and Sterling and dump the rest Rodgers esp

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rodgers still thinks he's a great keeper- how bad does he have to be til he sees what we see?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lambert is the only striker scoring goals at the moment....

    ReplyDelete
  14. The defence hasn't been much cop since Hyypia went, if we're honest, and Reina went off the boil when the goalkeeping coach left - high rated Spanish one whose name I can't remember - Xavi Valero?
We NEED, desperately need, to get a good goalkeeping coach - someone who will tell BR if what we have is worth keeping, and a defensive coaching team who will do similar... We NEED staff who will tell it like it is and a manager who will listen to them... and then owners who will take it on board.

    ReplyDelete
  15. So true he and David James were either sublime or ridiculously bad

    ReplyDelete
  16. Let's make barca an offer for a permanent deal for Alex song. We'll be able to get him for the £10 mill redmond would cost. Chelsea won't sell us Cech and martinez won't go to a team who have no chance of getting in the CL next year. Sorry, but that's the reality of it

    ReplyDelete
  17. Chelsea sold mata to manu. So why shouldn't they sell to us a GK they do not intent to use? His salary might be a problem thought... If not Cech then my dream would be Lloris. What a GK he is! Worth every penny! If that is impossible then I would go after Begovic. Martinez would be awesome even if I think we need a playertype like Sanchez/Reus... Would take a chance for alex song instead of Redmond. Has every thing we need. Experience and quality...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nathan Redmond another exceptional winger, just like Markovic and Assaidi are. No thanks. We have an exceptional winger on loan at moment Jordan Ibe and a couple more in the reserves and under-age teams. Give them a chance for Gods sake and stop wasting money on these so-called prodigies....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Reality is Rogers needs to start playing with 2 Defensive Midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 formation until we strengthen up the squad.
Having two players in front of the back four provides a platform on which the team’s more attacking players can create chances.

I would place Gerrard and Lucas in these positions as they compliment each other.
This would leave Sterling, Henderson and Coutiinho/Lallana as the attacking midfielders and Lambert up front to hold the ball up.
Winning the midfield battle also puts less pressure on the defence and goalkeeper.

    Rafa.

    ReplyDelete
  20. They sold mata to chelsea, so why wouldnt they? He is on a higj salary and they have curtois...

    ReplyDelete
  21. You're really a fan of Rodgers tactics of playing a lone striker?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I totally agree, "exceptional" Redmond...in whos right mind? Martinez and Cech both world class, but Redmond can stay where hes at imo.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mrs Doubtfire could be the Markovic killer going by his performances so far. As for Redmond, as usual linked to overpriced overrated English players meh.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 100% spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Except for that to work, we'd need a striker with pace... like Torres... and like Torres, when Sturridge comes back he'll not have 'it' anymore.
The REAL Rafa tried this holding the ball up bollox with Crouch and all it achieved was Crouch gave a lot of fouls and a lot of possession away. Unless we can unearth a forward of the standard of Dalglish and the midfields he played with, then 'holding the ball up' is a waste of time. If you think Lallana, Gerrard, Coutihno etc fit that bill, you are extremely deluded.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The only 4 players I would get rid off are Migs, Skrtel, Johnson and Gerrard.

The rest are good enough to be challenging for the top 4, the problem is BR with his awful tactics, not utilising the players he has to their full potential, buying players when we have very good youngsters who could the same job, playing players out of position, the list goes on and on

    ReplyDelete
  27. Really.. Are you honestly saying that Bruce Grobbelaar was a terrible goalkeeper because if you are I suggest you stop watching football now and for all time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If there was no speculation about Liverpool transfers in January half the press would be out of a job and JK might have to get a proper job :-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cech Yes. Martinez Yes. Redmond No. Why sign him when we have Ibe?

We need to replace Mignolet. Simple as, he is not cut out to play at a higher level, he will never get a sniff of Belgium no1 spot again.

We need to sign players for now. That team yesterday was last years team apart from 2 players.

We have over £80M seating on the bench yesterday.

    So annoyed right now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Not sure I understand how a high defensive line stops him dominating his penalty area, dealing with crosses and holding onto shots.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1. You don't need pace to hold the ball up.
    2. Torres had 1 good season
    3. You're more deluded than i am if you think we 'unearth' another 'Dalglish!'
    4. What would you do in the meantime to improve results?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well dont mean to be mean but apart from Moreno and Manquillo and maybe Can not one of last seasons recruits look worth having.
They dont look at all to be justifying their price tag or a spot in the team its a joke dont make bad excuses for them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. James was rarely sublime for us.Everytime the opposition got a corner David James would flap his arms like a bird.
The nickname Calamity James fitted his error prone performances when he played for Liverpool. The media would talk about the Spice Boys partying every night and DJ played like he was hungover.
David James got better with age and developed into a decent keeper when he left.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Exactly Nick.Being a good shot stopper is the bare minimum for a keeper.
Just like when you grade a centre back he shouldn't get extra credit for being able to head the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  35. People tried to shoot me down. Now they know why their gun had no bullets!

    ReplyDelete
  36. If GERARD is the future then LFC has no future - HE NEEDS TO GO

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lambert at 4mil to me is fine.

Balo / Borini - I would like to them play together for a good run of games. I actually think they complement each other.

    Markovic - Again, I will judge after a run of 4 - 5 games

Lallana - Good player but I agree that we did not need him. We have very good younger players who I believe could do the job if again given a run of games.

Lovern - I truly believe he is a good defender but he playing next to Strkel with Gerrard in front of him, of course he is everywhere.

Sahko - Again has never been given a good run of games. You can not be the Captain of France and be a bad player.

Its the same for most players brought by BR. They have either never been given a good run of games or are played out of position.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well then if they are so good why is the team so poor they all offer little not 1 outstanding player amongst them.
I suppose then if you are to believe what you say then Rodgers must be terminated immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  39. guys i hate to say this but i no longer look forward to watching the reds it has become a chore.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just have to pull you up on a few things.

The whole world cup winner.. how many games did Reina play in that world cup?

Also, Reina made his desire to leave and join Barc very very clear. When the chance came you couldn't see him for dust. Yes Reina deserved to be replaced.. BR just brought the wrong keeper.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The problem I have is the way that Rodgers is wanting Mignolet to play. Mignolet has no skill on the ball and cannot play accurate passes. He cannot control back passes and struggles with crosses. Why persist with the same thing when it is clearly not working?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah, it is clear from our play that the defenders have no clue what to do with the ball. Last year, Gerrard would come in and make passes to save the defenders blushes but he cannot do that this season and as a result, all we see is pass between the defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Mignolet has had games enough to prove his worth and has been found wanting. We do need a new better 'keeper but it may not solve all of our issues. I believe the biggest problem we have is that our defence is a group of strangers that haven't played together in a competitive situation for enough time. Too much chopping and changing. The only time last season that our defence looked ok was a brief period where, due to a few injuries we only had 4 defenders for a string of games and they started to look like a unit. More by accident than by design they were given time to play together and they seemed to find some kind of understanding. I believe that our best defence is Manquillo, Skrtel, Lovren and Moreno. Lovren needs to get used to playing in the left side of centre, but if they get a run of games together, for example between now and January, maybe they would come good.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Here is another problem in the below image that lead to the first goal. Skrtel's utter lack of awareness and positioning!!! HTF he is still making the starting eleven leads to one thing only, being best mates with Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree, but if for whatever reason its an all or nothing deal, I'd rather have all three than none of them....

    ReplyDelete
  46. soooo...Sell 2 strikers bring in 1? Plus 2 wingers we don't need and Cech...

    ReplyDelete
  47. I watched the game and Gerrard,Lambert looked tired and yet both played the full 90 minutes and then he goes on and make only 1 out of three subs .He could have made 3 substitutions after 70 mins or so i think that's just plain stupidity when he could have had fresh legs to defend well in the final 20 mins....

    ReplyDelete
  48. As much as Mignolet is at fault, Rodgers persistence with sticking to the likes of Johnson and Skrtel does not make the situation any better. only worse!

Let Petr Čech have a chance of playing beihind the two above mentioned inept defenders and what Cech look AVERAGE.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Expect for Skrtel and Johnson I agree,

Both of these players are truly awful. Skrtel is more of a wrestler then a footballer and I can not say nothing positive about Johnson.

BR biggest problem that he doesn't seem to understand that all great teams are built from the back.

You look at all the great teams over the last 30 years and you will an experienced keeper with a settled back 4.

They do not all have to be world class players as Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal have proved, but they do need to be coached.

    .

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah, i mean look at Chelsea when they played us. They had Tomas Kalas playing at the back and he still looked more solid than any of our centre backs have in two seasons. It is worth pointing out that Tomas Kalas is now doing so bad on loan he was demoted to the reserves for that team and yet this happens. Shows how effective defensive discipline can be.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Same thing happened against Palace. I maintain we were lucky against Ludogorets. Against any PL team, we would not have scored those goals. The first would have been belted out and the second would have been caught by the keeper. The problem is that this is being heralded as some revival. I will not be shocked if Stoke beat us at Anfield for the first time in 75 years.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Lucas also very much at fault for ball watching in the above image. We need to play Can as the Anchor. End of the story!

    ReplyDelete
  53. But, overall Lucas still did have a pretty decent game after settling. I do not think Can is suited for the DM role. He is a player that likes to move forward with the ball and initiate counters. His effectiveness is nulled if he plays the DM role. Either get a new DM in Jan(never going to happen) or play Lucas or Rossiter.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Our midfield was pitiful. Overrun time and time again and this was Ludogorets. Play the same midfield vs Stoke and they will rip us a new A hole.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:28 pm, November 27, 2014

    watched the whole match again
it was so much more better
    lucas should play every game
    and toure

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am scared for Stoke. If Balo is fit, there is a guarantee Lambert gets dropped. Lovren will be back for sure. I have a really bad feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  57. This says it all really. BR: "Thankfully we've had a good result against Ludogorets. We would have liked to win, we should have won, but didn't." If he thinks that was a good result, the loss at the weekend must have been a real boost for him

    ReplyDelete
  58. Can played mainly DM for Leverkusen.

Can has the pace, mobility and physicality. He ain't going to be bullied. Lucas and Gerrard are unable to keep up with the pace and should not be starting matches. Bring them on when we are cruising.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:37 pm, November 27, 2014

so if can played cdm at leverkusen where did bedner play?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Show me how Sami Hyypia lined up his Leverkusen side with Can in the starting eleven. Please, I do not have the time for childs play.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm still concerned there's no mention of a DM..

    ReplyDelete
  62. You are right about Lucas and Toure (although Toure is surely past his peak).

    ReplyDelete
  63. Which games were these? He played CB, LB, DM, and LW for Leverkusen.

    ReplyDelete
  64. thank god no Gerrard or Johnson thumbs up for me

    ReplyDelete
  65. You do realise that you have included the Welsh xavi with he's 1 goal and 1 assist and no body strength as our holding midfielder. That clown Allen and he's secret dad Rodgers should be the first 2 out of the door on Jan 1st

    ReplyDelete
  66. I was very surprised when Rodgers bought him, then i thought he was'nt good enough, now i know he's not. Looks like a rabbit in a spotlight, no wonder the defence is a mess, with frightened goalie behind them. He's just one of many poor Rodgers signings.

    ReplyDelete
  67. This tripe was all started by Caughtoffside so it's BS

    ReplyDelete
  68. The multiple media sources have all just copied the story

    ReplyDelete
  69. Why do that to yourself

    ReplyDelete
  70. i tend to agree sid ,can may grow into the role but he likes to venture forward and have a shot which im quite happy with if like our midfield to line up as allen/lucas can and hendo ...id play allen/lucas as Dm UNTIL WE BRING A SPECIALIZED ONE IN ....

    ReplyDelete
  71. your attempts to stick up for mingo are valiant logan but lets be honest hes crap and is going crapper by the week ,its a self fulfilling prophecy the defense is making the goalie worse and vice versa ...and the answer is to get shut of the lot

    ReplyDelete
  72. And what difference is Brad Jones going to make?

    ReplyDelete
  73. well its a different name on the sheet for starters and at this moment in time ill take that

    ReplyDelete
  74. I edited my post ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  75. for me if players under perform and you dont drop them it sends the wrong message through the club, even if its an academy goalie you bring in ,whats the point of trying to improve if you have a gold plated position ,how Johnson and co are getting games is tantamount to a complete breakdown in human sanity

    ReplyDelete
  76. Just explain to me how ANY GK is supposed to keep a clean sheet or even be full of confidence with ball watchers ahead of him as below???

    Be my guest.

    ReplyDelete
  77. like ive said its a self fulfilling prophecy bad players make bad players worse apes learn by watching more intelligent older apes what rodgers has reproduced is football evolution in reverse players who could kick a ball have now regressed that ability ...its quite remarkable from a scientific standpoint just whats taking place

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ok so who says a confident Mignolet would not perform better?

Are you telling me that Mignolet is going to concede at the rate he is at the moment behind Chelsea's defence?

    I THINK NOT

    ReplyDelete
  79. for 10m pound im looking for a goalie who can kick a ball straight and isnt glued to his line ,the defence in front of him is irrelevant if he cant kick and catch a ball the two basic requirement for a goalkeeper

    ReplyDelete
  80. I wouldn't even say he needed a replacement maybe reina coming back in the summer would have raised both players games, mignolet not wanting to lose his place and reina wanting to prove himself and get back to being number 1

    ReplyDelete
  81. Confidence is a big thing mate. Like I said 3 vs 1.

Put yourself in Migs shoes. NIGHTMARE.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Isn't it funny that Gerrard defended the same way playing off the striker he does playing in front of the back four? The only difference is in one of the roles you can get away with walking and not tackling.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Look at it again. What chance does ANY GK have in this instance and this is what Mignolet has had to deal with all season!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. ------------------Cech
    Manquillo-Sakho-Lovren-Moreno
    ---------------New DM
    -----------Hendo----Coutinho
    ----------------Sterling
    ---------Sturridge-Martinez

Assuming no injuries, gaining back of form and a nessecary DM.
Impact Subs/Rotational Players: Gerrard, Balotelli, Can, Lallana.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Why did we sell reina anyway? The only thing mignolet is better at is as a pure shot stopper. Long ball distribution is horrible, command of his area horrible and ability to deal with crosses...you guessed it, horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The important thing is that Mignolet was blameless.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The only 4 players? I just don't see a top 4 team having Lucas, Borini, Sakho either.

    ReplyDelete
  88. The problems at club are for all to see:

    B Rodgers is too stubborn.

S Mignolet(26) was average last season and had a few blips and shipped in 52 goals, so a top class first choice GK should have been brought in this summer to dislodge and compete with S Mignolet(26) as B Jones(32) is worse than S Mgnolet(26) no matter how poor he has been this whole season.

A Begovic(27) Of Stoke should be brought to club for £7-£12M NOT
P Cech(31) of Chelsea( who is three years past his best and will never ever get back to his best )

S Gerrard(34) struggled last season in games as DM and B Rodgers rarely uses L Leiva(27), both do not have the energy, legs, mobility, pace or speed to play the DM role well in the fastest league in the world.

A Mobile tough tackling enforcer or two should have been brought to the club this summer.

J Allen(24), E Can(20) and J Henderson(24) =£41M of Average Midfield talent: They all have good energy, bit of mobility and pace with them, they all pass well side ways and backwards. But they all lack class creativity in attack and do not score enough goals from midfield.

P Coutinho(22), A Lallana(26), R Sterling(19) are class quality players low on confidence playing in struggling team and it is effecting them badly.

L Markovic(20) is a class quality player but he was more £10-£12M attacker not a £20M attacker and for a manager to waste £20M on Attacker and leave him on bench regularly when team is struggling to create and score goals show Manager made mistake or has lost the plot.

The Manager spent Millions on potential ( Quantity)

Instead he should of spent Millions on Class Experience ( Quality)

And 75% of B Rodgers signings have been failures, so now its only a matter of time before he is given the boot. Its not is, it is more like when will he be sacked.

As we have lost 6 games before December , with another 26 games in league to play. And would you put faith in B Rodgers in January Transfer window?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Do we even have specialist coaches at lfc? Gk coach defensive coach etc?

    ReplyDelete
  90. We need Klopp rodgers is the one that got rid of reina in the forst place and bought minoglet the worst keeper i ever seen it like they got him straight out of a local gym in belgium or something and asked him would you like to be a keeper for LFC its a joke

    ReplyDelete
  91. Looks like Markovic is a right off then? Imo he is.

    ReplyDelete
  92. FS will never sanction so much money, despite we need players like Cech and Martinez desperately. In addition to that ,Br remains our manager because he never pushes FSG in order to splash on world class players.FSG has their own model but LFC can not match the richer clubs.Klopp is a manager used to work with low cost teams.I expect that they will knock his door and i wish it not to lose to Arsenal again.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Phil MooreBabbthanThompson9:10 pm, November 27, 2014

I don't think you should be blaming Rodgers for choosing the transfer targets. From what I understand, he is part of the process and only a member of a delegation from within the club who identify targets. Furthermore, it could be that we identified the correct or more suitable targets, but they chose to go elsewhere for different reasons (ie Sanchez to Arsenal who wanted to live in London). What I'm saying is, Rodgers may well have identified a replacement keeper, but maybe we couldn't secure a deal with them. The truth is, we have the wrong people at the club identifying targets and we're not securing the deals for the first choice targets that we should be.The transfer policy overall is flawed (Andy Carroll!!). the same transfer mistakes are being made which is not Rodgers' fault exclusively. Maybe we're not offering competitive enough salaries or packages for our targets, but the good players are slipping through the net and the sh1t ones are being bought at over inflated prices. Whoever is in charge of recruitment and whoever is responsible for closing and sealing deals with these targets should be questioned and replaced by an alternative policy. However, we are regressing as a team and we need a new keeper, a holding midfielder, two world class physically capable strikers, two centre backs and a right back. If only we had £140 million.

    ReplyDelete
  94. PhilMooreBabbthanThompson9:21 pm, November 27, 2014

true. If you look at the first goal we conceded at Palace, nobody closed the Palace down and concede a lot of goals from not closing down quickly enough.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm not just saying this now, but when BR picked Mignolet over Begovic I was disappointed. Mignolet is too quiet to be a top keeper. All the best keepers in the world bar none are very vocal with their team. Mignolet has the physical attributes but not the mental ones to be a top keeper. Brendan Rodgers should realise this now, and fix the problem, otherwise he can wave goodbye to his own job.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I do not know why BR is not playing Emre Can. BR should start playing Can as a CDM as he is our best option

  97. We do have ball playing centre backs, Lovren for one and Ilori, who is currently on loan in France. For a team that plays such a high line and has a centre back who has the pace of Christiano Ronaldo (faster than Ronaldo and Nani at 19 years of age in speed trials at Sporting) we have no real pace in the middle at the back. And before I get the usual "he needs more experience" look at Varane at Real Madrid, exactly the same sort of player. Next year if BR is still here I would like to see our first choice centre back pairing as Lovren and Ilori. Might as well shoot for the future. Definitely need a defensive midfielder to solidify that pairing as well though, someone top class. Get rid of Mignolet too and we'll stop shipping so many goals.

  100. We definitely need a 'keeper. Even if you like Mignolet, Brad Jones is a footballing non-entity.

  101. Yes, I probably should've made myself more clear... Cech is the only move that makes sense. The others would weaken our squad. We'd lose the our only 2 strikers actually trying atm and only bring in 1, and we'd bloat an area of the pitch that's already, well, bloated..
