Lame Excuse: BR explains why he wasted £20m on LFC 'passenger'. Contradiction?

After another ineffective performance against Swansea, Liverpool attacker Lazar Markovic remains under pressure to justify the £20m price tag on his head. Brendan Rodgers is seemingly not worried about the Serb's failure to make an impact at Anfield, and in his press conference today, he wheeled out his trademark excuse for signing under-performing players.

Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool's Premier League game with Newcastle, Rodgers insisted:

"We brought young Markovic in for the longer term. We have confidence he will become a big player for us".

Hmmm. Rodgers said the same thing about Tiago Ilori and Luis Alberto, and look where they are now. The major difference is, however, that neither of those players cost £20m.

Rodgers has also contradicted himself somewhat. When discussing his transfer strategy over the summer, he told reporters:

“Last summer...it was difficult for us to bring in starters. This year...those players coming in need to be capable starters. They have to be to the level that we require to perform”

If Rodgers spends £20m on a player, then it's totally fair to expect that player to make some kind of contribution to the team. Based on Rodgers' comments, it's also fair to assume that he signed Markovic because he believed he'd be a 'capable starter' for LFC.

Predictiably, Rodgers has now changed his tune, and is basically arguing that Markovic is *not* a capable starter, and little should be expected of him until some undetermined point in the future. Well, in my view, this is an unacceptable excuse.

Rodgers knew the importance of building on last season, and instead of spending that £20m on a player 'capable' of making a much-needed impact straight away, he wasted it on Markovic, a player John Aldridge recently described (correctly) as a 'passenger' at LFC.

How many times is Rodgers going to make these mistakes in the transfer market? Calling Markovic a 'waste' of money may not sit will with some LFC fans, but that is the harsh truth right now. At this moment, Liverpool have received zero benefit for that £20m outlay, and that makes it a waste of money. It all boils down to a concept I call 'loss of utility':

* If Rodgers had spent that £20m on the right player, he would be contributing to the cause right now in the form of vital goals/assists.

* Instead, Rodgers bought the wrong player. Consequently, Liverpool have lost the benefit of having the right player in the team.

* The loss of utility becomes more acute the longer Markovic fails to contribute.

* The same concept applies to players like Borini, Aspas, Alberto, Sakho, Moses, Assaidi, Ilori etc. None of these players have made any significant impact at Anfield. Just imagine the benefits to the club if Rodgers had signed the right players...

Every club makes transfer mistakes, and the loss of utility concept applies across the board. However, with Liverpool, the errors are the rule, not the exception, and that is a major ongoing concern. Additionally, wasting transfer funds like this just leads to further expense.

For example, if Markovic, Lallana et al keep failing to consistently contribute, then Liverpool will be forced to spend big bucks on another couple of attacking midfielders, and with Rodgers' record in the transfer market, the cycle of failure will probably continue.

Bottom line: Liverpool should not (IMO) be spending £20m on players 'for the longer term'. When there's so much at stake, that kind of money should only be spent on players capable of making an immediate impact on the team.

  1. He is just hiding his transfer failure. No one knows for sure if Markovic will come good or not, it was a gamble and a very expensive one at that. 20mn could have been used for a starter like Griezmann. I don't understand the logic behind signing Markovic, he doesn't look good on youtube, his stats at Benfica are very average, he has a bit of pace but nothing else.
    .
We overpaid for Lallana as well. I don't see Lovren or Sakho as a major upgrade on Agger. Lovren and Sakho cost us 38mn and we sold Agger for 3mn, terrible decision again. Lambert doesn't look like he is ever gonna score and 4mn (plus add ons) for a 32 year-old non-starter is a joke too. Defoe would have been a better purchase...he scored lot of goals for spurs as a super-sub and is a great finisher. I am in the minority but I think Balotelli and Borini will come good if given good run of games and if played in their preferred position. Lastly, I like Moreno and Manquillo for 6mn is a decent business. In conclusion, we could have done a lot better this season with the transfer kitty we had.

  3. At last, now the Ballotelli smokescreen is clearing the REAL REASON is being discussed which is the mismanagement of finances.

  4. I really hate to get on their backs, I prefer to keep the faith and support what we have, But with additions like Balotelli and those mentioned above, I am finding it very difficult to find an alternative argument at the moment... I think Brendan was flattered last season based on the form of Suarez, Sturridge and young Sterling.. Take two away and we struggling beyond belief.... We always need to keep an eye on the now, the future is the future, we're not there yet... We want to win stuff in 5/10 years, but we want to win stuff NOW!...

    ReplyDelete
  5. Difficult to argue with your conclusions here- for £20m a player must be able to contribute straight away.
One thing is for certain though NO more players who hjave had just ONE good season; too risky. I'd rather miss a potential bargain now and again and buy PROVEN talent..

  6. It doesn't help when owners have no idea of Football and buy the club. FSG relied heavily on Comoli and Daglish at start and now they rely on BR and Ayre. I don't think FSG have a good knowledge about players and their value, of course, its not their job to know but it helps when they have passion for the game. Currently, they have to put blind faith on BR and Ayre and hope the money invested will bring good returns. I feel sorry for FSG really.
    .
BR-FSG cycle is similar to that of KD-FSG. After the Hodgson tragedy, KD was hired and he achieved significant success in his first season compared to his predecessor. Certainly, fans and FSG alike were impressed and supported KD by sanctioning large amount of transfer money for the next season. Similarly, FSG were impressed by BR after last season heroics and rightly so. If FSG see their money blown away yet again, I doubt they will have invest again in future.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Are you coming round to the realisation that BR is not the guy we need to move forward

    ReplyDelete
  8. Remember Brendan's arrogant statement that we're different from Tottenham. In reference to the mass influx of players. Sorry Brendan the similarities are plain to see. Both teams failed to adequately replace their star player & both sacrificed quality for quantity. Message to BR more is less!

This idea that Ballotelli is taking flack for Lovren's inept performance, Markovic's no show, Aspas, Ilori, Alberto, Assaidi etc etc is spectacularly stupid. That's what most ex LFC pundits are spectacularly stupid!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'd also like to see Mario and Borini up front together - we have consistently been better with two up front and they seem like a decent combination and both have a lot to prove. Borini should be in for that cross against Swansea alone!

As for Rodgers, I remain a big fan, but I wonder if the job has taken its toll on him recently. He has been doing too much talking lately, but difficult not too with all the media demands I suppose...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Funny how many (including Jaimie) were shouting and screaming why we did not buy Lovren before Southampton did. Irrespective of the price, he has not really lived up to expectation even being one of the best defenders in the league last season.

  11. I am sure that Klop would take Markovic or Coutinho as a part of the deal for Reus.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Why would we want to get rid of Coutinho? He is easily one of our most creative players.

  17. Reus is guaranteed success at Bayern Munich and they have loads of cash to play around with. They will put us to shame.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Disgrace after a month playing, being 20 years old and coming back from injury to the best league in the world with so much expectations. Hm... And Reus is better than Couts, simple.

    ReplyDelete

So where he would fit in there? This dortmund-bayern business is so boring now, hope reus doesnt fell in.

  20. Enemyofeverydisbeliever2:49 pm, October 31, 2014

You would sell coutinho softly forgeting that we signed him for only 8.5m just because reus is better, but you defend markovic 20m. garbage!! Fair enough.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If we did not sign Markovic then Chelsea would have. They had first option to buy him. That suggest that he is a very talented player. The 1st team has struggled this season so to expect a youngster to perform brilliantly in a struggling team is going to result in a struggling youngster.

IMO he needs a bit more time to settle down.

    ReplyDelete
  22. to be fair, lovren only hat one good season either

  36. Jaimie, since our discussion about Markovic the other day you've written 2 negative articles about him. As I said the other day, he's just a kid with a big price tag around his neck trying to find his way in a new team, league, country etc. He's only had a handful of games and ok he hasn't set the world alight by any means but to be calling him a waste of money already is ridiculous.
I take you're point that a 20 million pound player is expected to make an instant impact but it doesn't always work like that although the "bought for the future" routine is becoming a bit of a tired excuse. Fair enough at this moment in time he's not proving value for money but that doesn't mean he won't in the future. To constantly expect instant results from players, it's totally unrealistic. As for whether we should've spent 20 mil on him or not is another matter but one which ultimately remains to be seen

    ReplyDelete
  37. Markovic needs to be given a chance to play centrally. He is a very good passer of the ball and links up well wit those around him. His end product needs to be worked on but he is only 20??? That can be ironed out with the correct coaching and if we can apply the same methods to what we did with Sterling then Markovic could become an asset. He has blistering pace which is what we need upfront. My advice, do not write him off yet :-)

Markovic actually reminds me much of Patrick Berger. How unlucky was he with all his injuries. Great player!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Refreshing to hear the truth- no top player will ever sign for Rodgers- what does he have to offer them?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Coutinho is a player we need to keep. How much will we need to cough up to replace him?

    ReplyDelete
  40. When we were linked with him I obviously checked youtube as I hadn't seen much of him.... I was not impressed at all. Youtube is not gospel as it can sometimes make a bad player look decent i.e Voronin. However I always worry when they look bad on youtube as they are meant to be their best bits.

I fully admit to not liking Henderson initially, and Lucas before him, but they both proved me wrong so let's hope Lazar can do the same

    ReplyDelete
  41. Even if he comes good at some point, its still a bad signing as we needed starters this season, especially for that amount of money.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Transfers maybe just ain't that easy as many would like to think plus a team like Chelsea have proven that they will beat us at any signing which we are after.

Sanchez is another player who would have fitted in seamlessly at LFC but went to Arsenal when he had the opportunity to be a regular starter for us.

Many wanted Bony to sign but fact of the matter is that we would have paid almost double for him compared to Balotelli otherwise Bony would most probably been in a red shirt.

i do believe Balotelli will turn out to be a very good signing. Rodgers just should stay away from playing him as a lone striker and give Borini a chance to prove himself. We have a very talented attacking options. Our defence is absolutely sh!te though :-o

    ReplyDelete
  43. Chelsea had first option to buy but the did not, hence the title 'first option'. I'm not suggesting he's a bad player but Jamie is right in that 'one for the future' was not necessarily what we needed when players like Sanchez and Pedro were not happy at their clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  44. His value plus 15 mil for Reus.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sanchez did not want to come to us. Pedro another player built like Aspas who was overwhelmed in the EPL. No thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It is not that easy. How many player plus cash deals happen nowadays?

Plus Coutinho is a really good player and not sure why anyone would want to get rid of him.

    ReplyDelete
  47. For me, the jury is still out on Markovic. He hasn't been given much of a run, plus, I recall when Henderson was signed for a similar fee and took awhile to develop. That being said, right now, he looks like the wrong player at the wrong time and I can only imagine what the folks at FSG are thinking considering his fee. Then again, they wanted the young, relatively inexperienced manager who came with "potential," one might almost say "one for the future." I was willing to give BR a few years to grow into the position, but I'm starting to wonder if it's merely been his his ego developing, rather than his tactical and management skills.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Reus is not coming to LFC. What is the bet?

    ReplyDelete
  49. For goodness sake, we are 9 games into the season, missing a key player, surrounded by plenty of poorly performing teams in the table and certainly not out of touch of the positions we need to be making. How can you make such an assertion? Dalglish had a whole season where he could not right the ship - and with Suarez in the team. Why don't you 'cycle' your thought processes a bit more before spouting such nonsense?
I for one am seriously tired of peoples' pathetic casting of judgements after 9 games. Neither of us knows where we will be at the end of the season but I think the manager and the team deserve a little more patience and faith; not you casting aspersions this early.
You say FSG were likely to have been impressed by last season's 'heroics and rightly so' and yet you seem to be suggesting that we are in this doomed 'BR-FSG' cycle, so what is your point here? You are offering no solution and yet sniping away until your heart's content. Either you should have been jumping up and down in the summer and calling for Rodgers head then - I doubt you were - or you shut up now and let Rodgers have his day and make your opinions known at the end of the season.
Don't just sit on the side lines with hindsight and proclaim the season already a failure - when that is clearly premature - I suggest you get a grip of yourself and look at the glass which is certainly still half full.

  53. One thing that has made me go ape this season is Rodgers changing the way we played compared to last season. There is now doubt that we have been mediocre for most of the season but with so many new signings or squad has been unsettled. Still no excuse for the rubbish that has been served up but we seem to be getting better. Our defence is still a massive issue.

Rodgers will know his fate when the season is up but to change managers now would be a disaster. FSG will give BR till the end of the season and also probably review the transfer committee if things go horribly wrong.

We just need to hope things improve from now on.

we can only go and sign those that are willing to come here , plus you forget to mention reus has a release clause and no third party ownership which put the price of reus up

teh argument is so bad its like when we signed carroll everyone was saying we should have signed augero yeah but augero does not want to join

reus i said it is too big for lfc
we have never signed a big player since i ahve been alive
the closest is torres and suarez but they were not as big as reus
so if we cant sign players when we were good like under rafa what makes you think we can now when our best player is a teenager who cant play 3 games in a trot without complaining of being "tired"

    ReplyDelete
  65. But that is not to say that spending £20m on a player for the 'now' would have performed any better especially in a team which does not know what to do with the ball at the moment.

look at rafa and roy reign we were signing players like cole ,merieles and maxi good players at the top of the game
but they could not hack it because they were too old

in 10/11 we had only babel, kelly and lucas under age of 25

    ReplyDelete
  67. That is a cop-out. Look at Costa, Febregas, Sanchez, Di Maria etc - there are many players bought for big money in the Prem who've come in and made an immediate impact. For the most part, buying a more experienced player for £20m+ raises the odds of success.

In my view, £20m+ should never be spent on teenagers, or 20 year olds, period.

and his advice made suarze a better player, why were we shiiitye under kenny with suarez ?

2)all his buys have not been abject failures apart from coutinho and sturridge , mignolet and sakho contribution has not been teh best but they are still contributing
who knows what iloris could be ,kolo was a good signing

  71. I think a major problem has been the amount of players we have signed this season. I would have called a miss on Lovren as it seems like he was not really the player we needed. We might as well have kept Agger but Lovren is here now what can we do. I would much prefer to see Sakho in the team though. We have failed to sign a centre back which can take the game by the scruff of the neck. By the looks of things we could have got much better than Lovren especially at £20m.

a more fitting list would be liverpool , nottingham forest, villa ,leeds, arsenal

  87. You are mocking someone's post?!? Damn...

    ReplyDelete
  88. But if LFC were winning trophies season after season then it would be a completely different story would it not?

LFC still remain one of the biggest clubs in the world when it comes down to history but money and fame has changed the game dramatically. If we were lining up the trophies the players would follow irrespective of the city you live in.

We are between a rock and a hard place at the moment. We have a much better squad compared to the one Rodgers took over though IMO.

I will give him till the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  89. No arguments there- it pains me to hear BR say we overachieved last season and this would be the season we 'pushed on' - evidently not

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:49 pm, October 31, 2014

i will give him one more
as west ham proved with big sam and newcastle with pardew you should ahve faith with manger who got you sucsess at one point

    ReplyDelete
  91. True, he is entitled to his opinion but I for one am going to vociferously counter any such opinion because if nobody does then this kind of opinion will set down poisonous roots . I rather liked what we did last season and I am not going to sit about listening to whiners like him pull everybody down when we have clearly made - at worst - an indifferent start to the season.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:51 pm, October 31, 2014

yes but what was he meant to say

" we have no ambition, next season we will decline because we lost suarez and might not make cl"

would the likes of markovic, lallana, moreno, can, lovren join us if he said that ?

we all knew this would happen it was teh most likley senario so i dont see why you are suprised or hurt

    ReplyDelete
  93. How about the Champions League, the treble, the FA Cup, The League Cup.. We have won trophies in that time period. Liverpool is in a Rennaissance right now. After years of dormancy, it is rising back up and in the future, it can compete.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Fine. counter his argument by all means but personal comments just lessen your points.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Is this the same code that wished we lost a game so we can sack Brendan?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Nevergonnacrackthecode4:55 pm, October 31, 2014

History is only important to players if they were bought up in that time

we last won the league 24 years ago
most players were not even born tehn

the only history that matters to us is who was winning trophies when i was between 8 to 17

i was banned after i said something about ricky lambert when he started vs west brom

i was really angry how in 4 months we went from suarez to lambert

so if i said something then it was understandable

it still kills me inside when i see lambert and balotelli toiling so slow cumbersome
when we used to have the best SAS the best move dynamic action packed atatck in world football

two player that can beat a man skill them up deadly finishing link up play
    then we had lambert starting

i ahve written off this season in the hope rodgers will rectify his mistakes bring in martinez and origi and we can go back to winning

    ReplyDelete
  104. OK, so saying Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Villa and Arsenal if that is what you believe. Now we have isolated it down to these then the only club (incidently not on your original list) that i think we would have trouble competing with for a potential signing is Arsenal. I dare you to challenge me over that point. My only real point here is stop embellishing the truth for dramatic effect. Anyone in their right mind knows we are a more attractive proposition than the lists you were reeling off.
I actually also disagree that we would always lose out to the clubs including Chelsea and Man u. Why did Sturridge end up at Liverpool then? You will probably chip in at this point and say Real would always be more attractive than us and I would largely agree for players like Bale. However, there are plenty of players who would also view the chance to be a bigger fish with us as attractive. For me, Reus is one of these. We will all have an answerfairly soon I am sure.

    ReplyDelete
  105. You're obviously not an accountant then

  107. Nevergonnacrackthecode5:12 pm, October 31, 2014

I just read a fantastic comment from TOM
    he talks about hindsight

the truth is a lot of us wanted lovren, lallana, moreno and we were excited when balotelli joined

now because its not so far worked we are attacking rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  108. A lot of teams are struggling at the minute. City have less reason than us but are three points ahead. Arsenal get our top target yet ate level of points. United's signings? We are struggling and most teams would if you take players of the quality of Suarez and Sturridge out. Take Cost out of Chelsea for months and see how they do. When we get Sturridge back the new players will have had time to settle (something I bet Rodgers was hoping wouldn't happen without Sturridge). That is the real time to judge the team. It is far too early.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Terry McDermotts perm5:18 pm, October 31, 2014

KD. Had Suarez in his team but he wasn't the player then that he became.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Nevergonnacrackthecode5:22 pm, October 31, 2014

What has reus done to convince you of this ?

In fact i remember gotze saying his dream was always to play for utd

so even if he wanted to be some big fish it would be for a club like utd or spurs

sturridge was a reject of chelsea was he not they did not even want him in training during his final days

    ReplyDelete
  112. Never wanted him in first place so not saying anything new

    ReplyDelete
  113. I can see that you didn't point blank say those things, it just reads to me like you were saying we were destined for this tornado cycle of doom and i simply believe all of these opinions about our signings are far too premature. I am sure FSG are big enough and wise enough to let the dice be rolled properly first. Have some heart.

    ReplyDelete
  114. However it was Rodgers who took Suarez to the next level. If we'd persevered with KD then we'd have persevered with Carroll and Suarez arguably wouldn't have developed into the player he did.
Love your username by the way

    ReplyDelete
  115. Do not have to be one to figure out simple maths :-)

    ReplyDelete
  116. I would without a shadow of a doubt rather have the squad we have now compared to the one Rodgers took over from Dalglish. We have far more options now. Rodgers just needs to go back to basics and this squad will flourish.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Good one. There is no such thing as a categorically right or wrong. Plus this whole debate boils to many unknowns. There are very few certainties when signing players. What seems like a perfect fit on paper can be anything but in the end. Conversely, what seems like a match made in heaven can turn sour pretty quickly if the chemistry is not right.
What still amazes me is how people seem to think there is some degree of certainty to it. I think people just need to accept that pzart of the magic of making a new signing is seeing if they do click.
I would always be an advocate of sticking by those that you have in the first place and making sure you make the best of what you have; but maybe I am old fashioned.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Just out of curiosity Jaimie what makes you change the headline?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm sorry man but your setting yourself up to be disappointed.

  120. There are a few drama queens on the internet at the minute. Can't wait for a run of good games so it goes a bit quieter.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Test exams are the worst! Well almost as bad as Exam tests.

    ReplyDelete

  124. You were banned for personally insulting Lambert, which is against the site's rules.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Do not go around telling people what they can and cannot post. People can write long comments if they like, and Solitary Reaper's comment is well argued and interesting. If you post something like this again, you will get a 7-day ban.

And FYI - about 5000 visitors have read that long comment so far, so you're totally wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  126. As Stuart says below, please do not belittle or snipe against other posters. There's nothing 'laughable weak' about SR's post, and comments like yours go against everything this site is about. Any further comments like this will be deleted.

  127. Vociferous counter-arguments are welcomed and encouraged, but only if they're presented in a civil manner. If you can't argue against someone without sniping, then please don't post at all.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Jesus, what is with people? I'm getting sick of this wilful disregard for the site's comment policy. Do not call another poster's view 'garbage'.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Maybe I changed it 2 mins after posting. Initially, I was asking the question 'is this a lame excuse' from Rodgers? I guess I changed it to represent my view on the subject, which is: this *is* a lame excuse from Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Mate in fairness it really your opinion rather than "realism".

    ReplyDelete
  132. I have noticed similar things before was just wondering. Shows how often I am here I suppose. Jay be a sado.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Obviously it's my opinion. Do I need to put 'IMO' in every headline and/or after every 3rd word?

It's realism as I see it; in my opinion. I don't suggest anything other than that.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I do change headlines quite a lot after posting, but I'm a Virgo; perfectionism/constantly analysing/changing stuff goes with the territory.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Haha. 'Lacking in merit' - perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I know but the meaning of realism suggests that the thing your referring to is fact or true to life. You could have said opinion instead of realism and it would have been more accurate.

    ReplyDelete
  137. The stats say that the teams who have the highest wage bills tend to do the best. All those players mentioned will be on more than any of our players barring maybe Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  138. No, that's not the meaning of realism in this context. The very fact I'm stating it's 'realism' means that it's my opinion. If I watch a movie, and afterwards, I say' Wow, that was so realistic', I'm not referring to real life, I'm simply stating that *in my opinion*, the movie was realistic. The same applies here.

    ReplyDelete
  139. So your saying your opinions imitate reality?

    ReplyDelete
  140. It won't be the first time, nor the last. But that is how I wanna live my life, once my unrealistic hopes became true, I'll be happier than I would be not believing..

    ReplyDelete
  141. This is totally pointless and irrelevant, and I don't have time for this pointless semantic chicanery.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Hear hear :) Let's start with Newcastle

    ReplyDelete
  143. I don't care what you judge about my thoughts. If you read my comments from the past, I have been extremely critical about transfers and transfers only. I am 100% sure its not a premature judgement. Its just that few players don't even look like they have the quality to step up. I maintain that we can qualify for top 4 if United fail to address their defense in January and if we finish top 4 it will be remarkable. Having said that, we should not forget the transfer failures because we are not run by oligarch who can afford such transfer wastes every year.

    .

Your comment "Either you should have been jumping up and down in the summer and calling for Rodgers head then - I doubt you were - or you shut up now and let Rodgers have his day and make your opinions known at the end of the season."

    .
This really pi$$es me off. I wasn't jumping in the summer but I was expecting some smart business. On the contrary, I think you were jumping after reading my comment and came up with such stupid judgments. Why should I wait until the end of the season and shut up right now? Just because you don't like what I am saying? Its my opinion and you can agree or disagree. If you want people to blindly praise BR or shut up then you need to avoid reading the comment section.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Not sure who needs to get a grip now.

    ReplyDelete
  145. You know the lamest excuse in this world? Comparing your failures with others and concluding that others are doing worse. I mean who the f cares what other clubs are doing?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Toure for Bale, had me in stitches.

    ReplyDelete
  147. People who blindly support BR needs to understand that his transfers record is abysmal. They can support BR (I support him too) but to defend his signings with stupid theories is ludicrous. He has wasted money this summer and everyone will realize it at the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Mate, I'm not sure, but I was reading this blog during the summer and I recall you claiming Lovren would turn out to be our most important signing.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Of the 4 you mention only Costa has made immediate impact.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Patrick Berger was a great player...i remember watching a show where he pulled out an old box full of Liverpool memorabilia from when he was growing up...class act ...

    ReplyDelete
  151. The league table cares and so I do.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I voted you up for the use of chicanery.

    ReplyDelete
  153. God bless you brother

    ReplyDelete
  154. I never understood the purchase in the first how the hell can you expect someone who has done bugger all in Portugal come in and star in the EPL the next season.
Rodgers and his dopey committee have blown it again time for him to call a spade a spade really very little imagination or intelligence in their recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  155. When he is sold for bugger all you can apologize.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Yes but that was based on his season with Southampton. He was one of the best defenders last season hands down. We needed a player who was going to come in and command our back four and Lovren did actually look the part but unfortunately it has not turned out that way.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Fully agree JK. The guy was a starter for Benfica, the Europa League finalists. You can't pretend they're that far behind us that their starters should not be able to be starters at Anfield too. The players you mentioned cost a combined 51 million. Add Markovic maken 71 million quid. Wasted. Imagine the two players we could have had for that.

    ReplyDelete
  158. "We brought young Markovic in for the longer term," Rodgers said

Well well, Dejavu like a MF!! because on 13 July 2012 BR said this:

"Fabio fits the model of what we're trying to do in building not only for now, but also for the future.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29859691

I wonder If BR will use the light switch in his bathroom or whther he'll just continue to keep pissing in the dark dousing his toilet rug.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Aspas?...don't do that to Pedro! I agree with Sanchez though.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Exactly - that's the point. The money wasted could've brought in a couple of truly top class players, and in the meantime, LFC loses out on the benefit of that.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Not to mention Lovren signed for Southampton the previous summer for the same fee we paid for Ilori. So had we bought him in stead we would now be 20 million better off. Actually, had we bought him and ILori last summer we would be 30 million better off now. 10 million saved compared to Sakho and 20 million this summer. Rodgers has been consistently poor in the transfer market since day one. Last season and the luck he had having Suarez at the club papered over a lot of cracks but he's found out now. He's just not capable. He made this big song and dance about him calling the shots in regards to transfers, when he first came to the club, so he's the one who brought in the shid players and he is the one opting to buy a lot of average dross rather than a few class players. Only one way forward. Without him.

    ReplyDelete
  162. @Jay Jay..It's a plain perspective. Again most of my write up is based on facts. And believe me most of the time facts are like a bitter pill to swallow. I am also a die hard Liverpool fan like you and I have every reason and freedom to present my opinion.Unlike last season our game has dipped to a new low and it is clearly evident that we lack players who can make a significant impact and win games for us. I'll reiterate the fact that apart from few defensive signings , Rodgers made very average signings in other areas and considering the quality of players that other clubs ( with whom we are competing ) possess, LFC will have a very difficult journey ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I second your opinion Chirag :)

    ReplyDelete
  164. I find many people on the Internet should have a dictionary at hand. Not facts my friend they are opinions.
We have been dreadful and opinion we both share but the players bought are more than capable but show little signs of cohesion or confidence. It is going wrong all over the place but it is more than the loss of one players as was the good form of last season. Opinions like religions can't all be right and like religions there may be grains of truth in all of them. Even those that are contradictions.

    ReplyDelete
  165. They are indeed facts for me ,for you and for the world to see.

    - Suarez was the best striker in all Europe last season.(Only reason why Barcelona paid that amount for him even after the biting incident. )
    - Go and check the combined value of all the LFC flops I have mentioned.
    - Chelsea was lacking in key area. Manutd was miserable.
I they are not the facts then try to disprove them. I give you a fair chance !!

    ReplyDelete
