Marco Reus to Anfield? It's a transfer rumour that just won't die, and new developments this weekend suggest that Liverpool have overtaken Manchester United in the race to sign the coveted German attacker.
According to Sky Sports on Saturday:
"Liverpool have been trimmed from 11/8 to 6/5 favourites to sign Marco Reus after a handful of big bets today.
"Man United are now out to 8/1 [with] Bayern at 16/1"
The story so far:
* 14 July: Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claims that Liverpool are preparing a £44m bid for Reus.
* 14 July: LFC (via Times journalist Tony Barrett), seemingly refutes that possibility. Barrett tweets: "Liverpool baffled by reports linking them with Marco Reus and insist they've shown no interest in him despite suggestions to the contrary".
* 24 July: According to The Independent, Rodgers plans to 'push ahead with moves for Reus and Lovren' (The Lovren deal is now done).
* 01 August: The Independent reports that Liverpool are still tracking Reus, along with Manchester United, and Bayern Munich.
Reds legend Jamie Carragher certainly wants to see Reus at Anfield, and when asked about the deal recently, he enthused:
“I’d love LFC to sign Reus. [He's a ] great player, and would be one of the best players in the Premier League.”
In May, German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten named Reus as the player of the year, and when asked at the awards ceremony about his future, the 25-year old attacker told Reporters:
"We'll see. Every player only has one career and wants to get the best out of it. You have to decide what's best for you. At the end of your career, you want to be able to say that you've won many titles"
After his return from injury in February, 'amazing' Reus grabbed an incredible 19 goals/assists in 13 games for Dortmund, which is a Luis-Suarez level of creativity. Stats for the last three seasons:
* 127 apps
* 61 goals
* 29 assists
* Goal/Assist every 1.4 games
Fantastic stats, and like Carra, I'd love to see Reus at Liverpool. The good news is that the German has reportedly rejected a contract extension at Dortmund, which suggests he is open to a move at some stage.
It's probably wishful thinking to expect the Reds to pull of a deal of this magnitude in the current transfer window, but if Reus continues to stall on a new deal, then January could be an option, or next summer, when his reptued €35m buyout clause comes into effect.

bogus story. Everyone is busy getting injured and Lambert is showing his class. The saddest part is that there is no striker out there that cant fit our squad. (Reus and others wont join, Reus is on step ahead of Sanchez who snubbed us. go figure the rest)
ReplyDeleteCome on we are all waiting For this Enough is enough
ReplyDeleteCome on LFC
If Ian Are can pull this one off i'll take back every bad thing I've ever said about him..
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean Ayre I don't know taking it back but that Guy has more stories then Walt Disney why it didn't happen
ReplyDeleteWith Sturridge now injured, we desperately need a world class striker. Lambert has showen me nothing in the pre season. If we go in the new season without a replacement for Suarez it would be suicide.
ReplyDeleteIan ayre, is the last person I would like to pull my one off, :)
ReplyDeleteSome times though i think he is sent off to buy players with ridiculous amounts to spend too the bottom line is always money.
ReplyDeleteAnyone can get who they want if they are willing to pay.
Same post for me as yesterday. Dump the cash bucket on Reus for striker and Vidal at midfield. Sell, Agger, Coates, Allen Lucas and Johnson Reina and perhaps Robinson to offset some of the combined cost. Then sit back, strap on and watch us make a real move for the EPL title race.......
ReplyDeleteIan Ayre, it's your time to shine.
ReplyDeleteIf we sign Reus, I'll do a nudie run through neighbourhood. In the cold of the night. With video footage. My tiny schlong pixellated
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to just say sell Johnson and Reina when no clubs are willing to take on their ridiculous wages. If it was that simple then they would have been gone by now.
ReplyDeleteThis is going South...
ReplyDeleteWe want newspaper clippings too it has to be a busy area oh and now i am even more desperate to get him.
ReplyDeleteI'm in OZ, I already am.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I mean :-)
ReplyDeleteWe all know, its not gonna happen.
ReplyDeleteNick streaking or Reus turning up.
ReplyDeleteThe only chance of signing Reus this summer would be to pay far more than next summer's rumoured €35 million buy out clause.
ReplyDelete€50 million could do it.
I always wondered why the club denied the Reus rumour, unless they routinely deny rumours to local journalists, but that this was the only denial that was deemed news worthy.
I doubt we will sign him but it would probably be our most high profile signing ever if it happened.
I just cant see this one happening and bookies odds generally offers no more insight than over enthused fans putting money down. But.........we've been getting all of our transfer deals done in all of our other problem areas. Signing moreno will leave us just needing to replace Suarez and with nearly a month left to concentrate on such a deal. Also when we signed torres and suarez we had constantly been linked with both player weeks if not months before. So although signing Reus is unlikely, its actually seemingly looking a bit more possible by the day. And winning this champions cup on monday may have greater significance than we think because maybe top players will see that and start to realise Lfc is going to be the place top players want to be
ReplyDeleteWord. Perhaps we could devise a route for Nick that takes in some local primary schools and shopping centres.
ReplyDeleteReus won't turn up and Nick will streak anyway as an act of protest.
ReplyDelete#bringreustoanfield
ReplyDeleteAt least you get a proven penalty taker - Doh!:-)
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, why do we need Javier Manquillo? If we sign Moreno, our left back position is sorted with him and Enrique. Kelly and Johnson can compete with Flano (who again can play either side) on the right. 5 full backs for 2 position is good IMO and in crisis, Toure, Sakho can play there as well. (Robinson should go on loan).
ReplyDeleteSigning Manquillo is not a really good idea unless of course he turns out to be a Cafu-esque player. (though we already have one). Not to mention, Wisdom who predominantly played as right back for Derby last season and will be ready by next season to compete.
PS:- KEEP COATES!
And improves his shots on target stats, JK will love that.
ReplyDeletePrimary schools? Been there done that.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, of course.
Don't underestimate the importance of proven penalty taker. Legend has it that one club paid 30mn+ for a certain Penaldado.
ReplyDeleteThe women in Australia will be protesting with what Nicks offering .
ReplyDeleteWe will all be in with a chance after his streak
Obviously we wouldn't be the most attractive adress for him, as there are a load of big clubs interested in him... We have no chance if you ask me
ReplyDeleteI think it's always been tipped that whichever team that buys him will need to pay more than 28 million pounds
ReplyDeleteYou mean strap in not strap on most of us are men here.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you keep lists on these things.
ReplyDeleteChirag, I think offering Coates to Sunderland on a year's loan would be a good move. Of course Sunderland might not want him but with Poyet being Uruguayan he will know only too well about his qualities and reputation prior to his Liverpool move.
ReplyDeleteAgreed pretty much but would like to keep Flanagan as a back up at least he can defend.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, and with time on his side, I would'nt be surprised if he was Carra's (secret son) he he.
ReplyDeleteHe has a great attitude. only time will tell.
But I cant see him blowing the fuses at Barca or Real, thats who we will face this year in the CL, people need to realise that.
What if I don't like women
ReplyDeleteEven when he's all geared up in his slinky leather motorcycle chaps?
ReplyDeleteI for one am very happy with the Manquillo signing. We have not had a quality RB since Steve Finnan and from reports, Manquillo can defend and attack. I can see him do well in the CL. Flannagan is also good and he is not scared of anything. The thing is that right now, none of these guys are world beaters but by giving them the crucial CL experience, they will become better players. I would prefer if we rotate between Manquillo, Flanno and Kelly to develop all of them. They might not blow the fuses now but they could in 2-3 years.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers should offer B Dortmund £50-£53M for the combined transfer of M Reus(24) and P Aubameyang(25).
ReplyDeleteThese two attacking players will offer class, quality cover in attack and bring added experience, mobility, pace , speed and goals to side.
Those two players would bring another 25-35 goals to club a season.
Dude Reus is worth that much alone
ReplyDeleteThey would not sell both to us this isnt Southhampton we are talking about.
ReplyDeleteNot even if we send Ian 'Seal the Deal' Ayre
ReplyDeleteSo, Javier Manquillo is you answer? A top full back? If not, then you haven't really answered my question.
ReplyDeleteA premier league loan would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteBuyout clause.
ReplyDeleteTrue and the reasons the rumour refuses to die is wishful thinking on the part of fans and journalists repeating the story
ReplyDeleteI reckon BVB would hold out for more
ReplyDeletelol and how do they plan to do that exactly? They lost Mario Gotze in a similar fashion. Buyout Clause is quite strict in that part of the world.
ReplyDeleteHe is just too slow for the EPL and especially slow to turn. Otherwise he does well and looks quite classy but when in matters his lack of speed will be costly.
ReplyDeleteI am gonna go ride my bike. - Ian Ayre.
ReplyDeleteI assume that the ref won't get his assist though:-).
ReplyDeleteThe same way Liverpool held out for more than 40 with Suarez? But I guess they are German after all. However we could offer 45 million just to be safe.
ReplyDelete*I replied to this comment because your newest one is under moderation*
Well, at least the latter is getting paid for that so its obvious. Sympathy for fans.
ReplyDeleteManquillo, I have not seen enough of to draw a conclusion, but Juanfran is keeping him out of the team, and I rate him right up there at the top table with the best in the world, (Juanfran that is).
ReplyDeleteI have lost patience with Kelly, apart from being a perrennial sick note, he has lost confidence in his own ability, and it shows, Flanno exceeded my expectations last year, hopefully he improves again this year, I used to watch him when he was 15, 16, but he was all guts, he has improved immensly.
Manquillo and Moreno will bring much needed pace down the flanks.
ReplyDeletePlaying Sakho at left back is like playing Skrtel at right back, it just does not go. Sakho however can play right centre back like he did at PSG. Both are CB's and that is how it should stay.
I would definitely keep Flanagan for cover at left and right back and Kelly who can also be shifted to CB. Robinson and Johnson are surplus. Toure has one more season left and Enrique's time is up too.
Dont put the three letter L word the filter doesnt like it.
ReplyDeleteJust hope that we do not play Johnson regularly. He is an utter liability and it good get very ugly for us in the CL if he plays.
ReplyDeleteOk, if you think Manquillo is good then fine. I haven't seen much of him so IMO we are just adding to the growing number of youngsters in that position.
ReplyDeleteI am not saying we should play Sakho at LB but he can play when we are in absolute crisis, same with Toure.
Just hope that we do not play Johnson regularly. He is an utter liability and it could get very ugly for us in the CL if he plays.
ReplyDeleteYes I know, I need to get rid of that habit soon. l@l, oh dear.
ReplyDeleteI am not saying Manquillo is good or even will be a success as I have not seen him play either but from what I have read, he is damn quick and Rodgers in favour of attacking full backs.
ReplyDeleteArsenal didn't sue Liverpool for that and showed some class. But QPR didn't do the same with Liverpool for Remy. Buyout clause are followed 99% of times and that Suarez case was one off. Its a beggars belief that Liverpool permitted for such a low clause during contract signing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you didnt read my post, just glanced through it, but if you did,
ReplyDeleteyou will see the only FB I mentioned other than the dross we have, was Lahm, I never once mentioned Manquillo, or any other FB, maybe its a computer glich, or read my post again.
I got it the first time. But my issue is why we need to sign Manquillo? I think that wasn't addressed. Anyway, player like Lahm will always be welcomed but they are rare, very very rare.
ReplyDeleteTwist, Real, Barca, Bayern, would pay £70m, for another 25-35 goals a season, you should contact them.
ReplyDeleteAlthough speed is helpful asset but its not mandatory for a good CB. Carra did ok for his speed I suppose. There are quite a few slow defenders in EPL who are playing well since many years.
ReplyDeleteMilk turns faster.
ReplyDeleteDude, you are still on it. Last time I was here, you were regular in comment section with all the fantasy transfer tips for BR. But I must say, you have shortened your comments considerably since. Are we witnessing the slow death of once great optimist Liverpool fan?
ReplyDeleteYou're correct there; it's more about positioning and awareness. JT is a prime example.
ReplyDeleteor the other way around ;-)
ReplyDeleteKids.
ReplyDeleteThe boy is greased lightning compared to Manuel Pellegrini - remember him?
ReplyDeleteYes I remember him, I sent him out for 20 smokes and a box of matches 11 years ago, and he has'nt come back yet.
ReplyDeleteI always thought fridge is not really a word and it is only used by we Indians colloquially as we are too lazy to say refrigerator. I guess its universal.
ReplyDeleteyes, my Wife played a part in it being used in English, it derives from the word, Frigid.
ReplyDeleteEvery time he used to call me from his prepaid phone, his talktime gets over by the time he manages to say hello.
ReplyDeletenow I am confused, lo!
ReplyDeleteGoogle frigid, and then you will understand, its a female thing.
ReplyDeleteStudge is back in UK, injured. STRIKER PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteOk the missus is coppin it.
ReplyDeleteAre you locked up, ??
ReplyDeleteMertersacker too. However the defensive line has to drop deeper to accommodate, something which, with our high pressing game, just won't happen.
ReplyDeleteHa ha
ReplyDeleteor even a freezer on the north pole- in winter
ReplyDeleteChirag, Well one thing is for sure. We sold the third best player in world football and have not replaced his class, quality or goal threat at all.
ReplyDeleteThe players i regularly mentioned are better than what we have:
RW: Pedro(26) and Reus(24)
LW: D Capel(26) Or B Arfa(27)
CM: T Alacantra(23) is better than any centre midfielder at club.
CM: M Sissoko(24) is better than J Allen(24) , J Henderson(24) and L Leiva(27)
FD: L Muriel(24) , L Remy(26) and G Rossi(27) are all better than R Lambert(32) and F Borini(23).
No it's spread across the Atlantic, Laziness that is.....;-)
ReplyDeleteYes I call my fridge Alison even though it's not really that cold
ReplyDeleteI thought we only loaned Aspas
ReplyDeleteDue to the increase in the price of fags he's on his way back for some more money
ReplyDeleteShiver
ReplyDeleteI have awakened the beast.
ReplyDeleteRelax, we ain't going to sign Balotelli and as for Reus, why on earth would Jurgen Klopp let him go?
ReplyDeleteThe media blows everything way out of proportion. " Rodgers: I like that lad Balotelli, he is a good player" leads to the next day headline- RODGERS WANTS BALOTELLI TO REPLACE SUAREZ.
ReplyDeleteyour tripping if you think sissoko is better than hendo he plays one good two bad he is the epitome of inconsistant
ReplyDeleteMoussa Sissoko is not better than Allen and definitely not better than Henderson. Capel and Ben Arfa are not that good. We aint getting Remy, Rossi is injury prone, Thiago is injured, Reus is a pipe dream and we would have to pay a lot to get Muriel.
ReplyDeleteJk doesnt like the term thats why its blocked why i dont know ...
ReplyDeleteim a big fan of the fantasy ins and outs especially when the fee is put in as well, has anyones ever come close to being correct
ReplyDeletethats my main concern with danny boy at least we have mr jet heels lambert to take his place
ReplyDeleteI'll believe this when I see it. Think we'll tie up the 2 fullback deals and target another striker and that'll be that
ReplyDeleteJust not Bony. Any pacy striker, preferably not from Swansea or Southampton would be a huge addition to our squad.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't want Bony
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha We should then bring in M Reus(24) to club for £32-£35M
ReplyDeleteAs now we have lost L Suarez(27) we need more class, creativity, quality and goals in side:
And then B Rodgers should bring one of these 5 strikers to club for £12-£18M to club also:
1: L Adriano(27) Of Shakhtar Donesk
2: G Rossi(27) Of Fiorentina
3: L Muriel(23) Of Udinese
4: M Balotelli(23) Of AC Milan
Lacazette
ReplyDeleteLike him a lot. Ayre, get on that bike.
ReplyDeleteM Sissoko offers more in class, power, pace , creativity and goals than J Allen, J Henderson and L Leiva. J Henderson is just better at pressing and winning ball back, but i am sure if we got M Sissoko(24) with his pace, power and strength he will be good at hunting ball back. Capel and Arfa are class, quality players who fully fit and injury free will and would cause any full back in world football problems. Thiago(23) is better than any centre midfielder we currently have by a country mile. Rossi is an out and out finisher and just because he had serious injury in spain and was out for nearly two years make him injury prone. Sturridge and Kelly are injury prone, the latter we should ship out.
ReplyDeleteMuriel(23) Of Udinese or L Adriano(27) Of S Donesk should be brought to the culb for £12-£18M to compete with D Sturridge(24) and R Lambert(32)
Apart from Henderson(24) winning ball back well and pressing high up pitch well, what else did he offer club? And that's why he looks out of playing for England because winning ball back and pressing shouldn't be your best attributes as a football player
ReplyDeleteRossi hasn't just had one injury, he has had at least 4 really serious injuries and has been out for a totality for at least 2 years. These are not Sturridge type injuries only for a month or two, these are career threatening injuries. Remember the player we had who was like the failed Justice League character? i am sure you do.
ReplyDeleteHa ha nah Chirag,
ReplyDeleteBe serious : B Rodgers was promised £60-£70M this summer for transfers for making Champions league before we sold L Suarez(27):
So Can(21), Lambert(32), Lallana(26), Markovic(20) and D Lovren(24) were all going to be signed whether we sold L Suarez(27) or not.
Now he has gone, we need to replace his class, creativity and goals with numbers and different players as no one player can replace L Suarez(27)
And i honestly feel that M Reus(24), L Adriano(27) and B Arfa(27) would cost club £63M but in Adriano, Arfa and Reus we would have three class, quality experienced attackers with mobility, pace and speed who fully fit and injury free would bring 30-45 goals a season to the club.
We have M Kelly(23) who in last 4 seasons has been on treatment table for 85% of the season every season still at club.
ReplyDeleteIf your refering to A Aquilani(30) , He was injured when R Benitez brought him. But he was not given a fair shot at club, as there were games where he outshined Gerrard,Mascherano and was a class apart. But due to his weekly wages and K Dalglish and B Rodgers prefering their players they brought to club he was shipped out.
As to this day i will say it straight: A Aquilani showed me more class, creativity and quality in a Liverpool shirt than J Allen, J Henderson and C Adams ever have and probably ever will. Yet he was never given 7-15 games on the trot at the club
I don't think any Liverpool fan will ever close to correct.
ReplyDeleteStuart when have i mentioned Aspas(26) within this post, Aspas(26) and Alberto(21) were a waste of £15M + and both we may never ever see again in a Liverpool shirt again Thank God.
ReplyDeleteBut we cannot go into new season with just two class quality strikers: As D Sturridge(24) is out every season for 6-10 games with ankle or hamstring problems.
And to rely on Just R Lambert(32) if D Sturridge(24) was or is out injured is suicidal.
F Borini(23) is simply not good enough to play up top on his own for our club, he is not a top 1-6 club striker. He is a top 12-18 club striker
Reus(24) is not worth £50M he has not done anything justifiable to be worth £40M let alone £50m. B Rodgers should bring him to club for £32-£35M maximum
ReplyDeletehes got a lot more in his locker than just energy
ReplyDeletei honestly believe balo would do well at liverpool , 14m isnt peanuts by any stretch but in the right environment he will score goals and when you consider the like of borini are going for similar fees its a no brainer
ReplyDeleteI'll gladly relax on 1 Sep when he is still warming the ACM bench.
ReplyDeleteI'll take Borini over Balotelli. Borini has a burning desire to be good. Balotelli has an alternating desire to not care or whine about being picked on.
ReplyDeleteMy typing stinks.
ReplyDeletei have a burning desire to be good also but it doesn't mean i can don the jersey....Borini will not get any better than he is now he will not get any faster or any taller or any more skillful he is not a CL level player. If Balo comes and fires he could well be as good as suarez
ReplyDeleteAll your fault
ReplyDeleteSort of but it is a bit fuzzy
ReplyDeleteMertesacker is too slow for the BPL and he can still do well at Arsenal
ReplyDeleteIf we sign Marco Reus I will film myself jumping out of my bedroom window and if I'm still alive I will upload it to Youtube
ReplyDeleteWe need a player of the Reus ilk period . If you lose a player like suarez and dont replace him with some1 who is even a bit similar in quality we are finished. I know we wont get a player as good as suarez but if we start the season with lambert and sturridge up front and expect sterling markovic lallana to be our threat we are so naive, my opinion but im not excited about the new season unless we get a big name, proven goalscoring/assist superstar player
ReplyDeleteHe will never be as good as Suarez and I would even argue he isn't even as good as Borini is now...and I don't think Borini is all that good. You didn't watch B+ against us I guess. He was a complete non-factor...not because he wasn't fit...it was because he didn't care...don't want him...don't need him...can't afford his baggage...pass.
ReplyDeleteI love to see him at anfield but never going to happen..his,agent is just stirring things
ReplyDeletetheres is more to it than meets the eye IMO ...his heart isn't at the club and for me hes one of those players whose heart has to be in it, i seem to remember certain lfc players going through the motions when they knew they where going
ReplyDeletePresident Silvio Berlusconi did not deny that the World Cup disaster affected the Rossoneri more than any other club: “I was about to sell Balotelli to an English team for several millions. But after this World Cup who will buy him anymore?”
ReplyDeleteBalotelli will be nothing but a poison into our club and he has been a poison at every club he has been. He is not going to change. No thank you.
His heart has never been with any club...that's my point. He drifts from club to club for less money every time...why? Because IT IS ALWAYS HIM. Can't you see that now? Why would anybody want to saddle BR with this high visibility baby-sitting job?
ReplyDeleteAgree. I'd love to see LFC sign Balotelli. He's still only young, and can be moulded, and he doesn't cause major problems like Suarez. He's a handful, yes, but it's mostly media hype. He has the potential to be one of the world's best strikers, and if the price is as low as is being quoted, then go for it.
ReplyDeleteReus is the dream signing! But it wont happen i think...but anything can happen in football, so who knows:-)
ReplyDeletethis story again ????? how many times can someone regurgitate the same story ?????
ReplyDeletei just done see any others players out there of his quality for 14m,suarz came to liverpool with baggage and we have just sold him for 75m we spend 10m on dross like alberto and co so for me hes worth the risk, danny boy is alawys a sock away from injury borini if he stays is crap im sorry for being crude but he is.Lambert may well find the pace beyond him so we may well enter the first game without a striker of any note,
ReplyDeleteits a no brainer for me when you consider the money we are splashing out on average players...The thing with balo is he has the potential to score a hattrick on his debut no other players we have bought or are linked with have the potential to do that ...he can be a genuine superstar
ReplyDeleteIf Balotelli is going for a price that low it means Milan want rid of him and and his problems quick.
ReplyDeleteAlarm bells...
it also spells bargain ...if he comes and rogers manages the guy right and the kop chant his name the worlds the limit
ReplyDeleteNo, it doesn't mean that. It could be that Balotelli is dead-set on leaving after the continual and disgracefu racist abuse he receives from neanderthal Italian fans. Why would he stay for years in a league where he's constantly abused?
ReplyDeleteManages the guy? Do not make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe guy smokes in fact does what he wants and when he wants and will not be told what to do, No manager has been able to talk sense into his head and the reason is because hew will not listen.
Listen to yourself, talking as if you know what goes on in the minds of managers and Balotelli himself. You don't; you're just parroting the same old tired media BS.
ReplyDeletehes achieved more at 23 than most players do in a career ...hes still a kid, we are loaning out players his age so they can mature hes had so much so early in life , the problem is hes that good he was an international and big club first teamer as a teenager ...
ReplyDeletehes been photographed having a fag big deal it hardly makes him a crack adict, check his stats for ac milan and evey club hes played for in assists and goals as long as he smokes on the pitch i dont care
ReplyDeleteBS?
ReplyDeleteAnd this?
ReplyDeleteMore
ReplyDeleteI'm not on about the smoking, just that you presume to know what goes on inside the minds of his managers.
ReplyDelete???
ReplyDeleteBr seems to want to saddle himself with task ....for that i give him credit and the fact that he must have faith in his own abilities to coach the guy.
ReplyDeletethey shouldn't your right ,but when the system you play requires these elements to work its as good an attribute as any
ReplyDeletehe is our number 7
ReplyDeleteits a known fact that smoking a bong before playing improves performance
ReplyDeletewhats wrong with dancing the cha cha
ReplyDeletemore ..yes please but without the guys
ReplyDeletehes just holding it for the blonde....shows hes a gentleman with manners
ReplyDeleteSo does your strap on ;)
ReplyDeleteIt IS always him. I find it unbelievably hypocritical for anyone to want Suarez to move on because of his antics and then advocate the signing of this self-detonating hand grenade in his place...using any number of laundry list excuses: racism, misunderstood, BR can handle him (Sturridge on his WORST days was never the self-absorbed brat Balotelli is), immature but he'll grow up eventually...nonsense...all of it.
ReplyDeleteHe was SUCH a great goal scorer for ACM last year...carried them to the top of the Serie A he did. (Insert eye roll here).
ReplyDeleteName: Mario Balotelli
ReplyDeleteHome country: Italy
Known for: scoring goals, self-regard, fighting with teammates, fighting with coaches, throwing darts at teammates, setting the bathroom of his mansion on fire with fireworks, parking tickets, yellow cards, red cards, fines, trespassing at a women’s prison, struggling to put on bibs, hijinks.
Why he might be a jerk: Mario Balotelli does things that would be considered jerky if you or I did them. Like stomping on an opponent’s head. Or fighting with a teammate during a training session. Or fighting with another teammate during another training session. Or fighting with his coach during a third training session. Or slapping a teammate on the back of the head. Or throwing a dart at a youth player because he was “bored.” Or setting off fireworks in his bathroom because he was, again, “bored.” (Maybe Mario Balotelli just needs a better hobby.)
Balotelli has the sort of rap sheet that inspires BuzzFeed to do a listicle calling him “The Most Interesting Man in the World.” Then again, BuzzFeed also called a Mitt Romney strategist the most interesting man in the world. What’s notable about Balotelli is that even austere British institutions like the BBC have been inspired to recite his various wacky transgressions in list form.
Also, he’s a dirty player—here he is getting two yellow cards in four minutes. He was fined £340,000 (more than $500,000) after being suspended 11 games during the 2011-12 season for assorted red and yellow cards. This past season he was banned for three games for “intimidating and insulting” a ref during a game for his club team, AC Milan. In his eight-year professional career, the 23-year-old hasaccumulated 70 yellow cards and eight reds for club and country.
He’s also reportedly been fined by various teams for smoking in a club bathroom, violating team curfew to go to a strip club, and violating team curfew to go out for a curry and engage in an impromptu mock swordfight with his fellow diners usingrolling pins. (This last one is obviously very cool, and not at all jerky—just including for completeness.) In total, he’s reported to have racked up more than $1 million in fines in his career, and the man is just 23 years old. That’s an expensive jerk habit!
Posted an article and link on Balotelli which points out why we should not sign him. Gone for moderation.
ReplyDeleteI don't need an article...I have eyes and a brain. Many here don't. Signing him is a lose-lose proposition.
ReplyDeleteAnd long may he continue to play for them :-)
ReplyDeleteI just can't see it happening. Reus isn't even an out and out striker. More like a false 9. Actually more like a winger. With Sterling at the club and 45 million spent on Markovic and Lallana I just can't see us spending another 45 million on exactly the same position. That would be 90 million to buy the same player three times.
ReplyDeleteDrinking too..
ReplyDeleteDo you think he gives a damn? So who is going to stop him? Liverpool? Ha ha.
Yes...moulded like Mourinho moulded him...or Mancini...or Seedorf. They did such an outstanding job of it that we have a perfectly formed human being ready and willing to leave it all on the field for the next team stupid enough to sigh him. Doing the same thing over and over expecting....fill in the rest.
ReplyDeleteI've just got myself ready and now I've got to take it off again
ReplyDelete'no-brainer' being the operational phrase here.
ReplyDeleteYou said we sold the third best player in the world and I just pointed out that we've only loaned him out at the moment.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I think I actually agree with all of your post above
Your mistake is thinking Balotelli wants to do well at a club when all he wants is somebody to tell him he's doing well and he shouldn't listen to those who think he could be doing better...if the club don't like his performances, it's the club that doesn't understand him.
ReplyDeleteJK will be writing more about Balotelli than anything else if he has to join Liverpool. That is for sure!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing hidden about Balotelli. Every big team he has ever played for has regretted signing him in the end. They have all done a cost-benefit analysis of his presence and every team has concluded they are better off without his baggage than they are with his abilities...every team. Every team that has signed him after Inter has sold him for less than they paid for him...every team. There is nothing to hope for with Balotelli. BR is molding a TEAM. Balotelli is the opposite direction of that project.
ReplyDeleteSays who?
ReplyDeletesays me
ReplyDeleteDude every time with the Thiago Alcantara... It's not gonna happen. Have you heard a single club being linked with him this year? No? THAT'S COS HE'S NOT AVAILABLE!!!
ReplyDeleteno uncle buck
ReplyDeletethe fans must not as well thats why they monkey chant him
ReplyDeletehis stats hold up to 23 old forward in the world
ReplyDeletelazer 20m lovren 20m llana 25m balo 14m you do the math
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing good about monkey chants, but a social conscience is also no justification for a club to sign a player that so obviously refuses to adhere to team values or rules or spirit.
ReplyDeleteLovren, Lallana, Markovic...all good players who can be counted on to do their talking on the pitch. Balotelli...not so much.
ReplyDeleteThose stats meant nothing to ACM's finish did they?
ReplyDeleteYou will forgive my jaundiced eye I hope.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about the price is that because of the Suarez sale, we can be a bit more aggressive with taking a risk.
ReplyDelete14m is normally a significant amount of money. But because we have the additional funds this year, it's a risk we can take.
He's still young so if it doesn't work out, we can sell him in a couple of years and potentially make a profit.
In a normal year, if a 14m purchase didn't pan out, it could really come back to bite us because that money would have been allocated to purchasing another player. In this case for this year, that 14m is not preventing us from going after a bigger player.
Not one team who have sold him have made profit except for Inter who sold him before his baggage came to prominence . Not one. There is no demonstrated profit in Balotelli...none.
ReplyDeleteAnd to add to that, supposedly he's tired of the Italian media.
ReplyDeleteIf he's coming to LFC, he's already been involved with the English media so he'll have an idea of what to expect. This wouldn't be a case of leaving for the sake of leaving. He would know exactly what he's doing.
In my opinion, the only reason why this deal doesn't happen is if LFC don't meet his wage demands (which is a very real possibility because of they way we supposedly structure contracts).
But the way we structure the contracts could also be a perfect way to force Mario to keep his head on straight. Play well and he gets paid more. Play poorly and he gets paid less.
As long as he doesn't bite someone, he's alright by me
ReplyDelete:)
If you were to ask for a price on Reus staying where he is this season I'm pretty sure it would be a shorter price than he is to sign for us at 6/5
ReplyDeleteI wish I could bold the word "potentially".
ReplyDeletehinguain a so called world beater score 17 with 5 pens = 12 baol 14 with 3 pens = 11 i dont want to rain on your parade pandster but they dont exactly score for fun in that leauge the top scorer had 22
ReplyDeletewhen there fit that is
ReplyDeleteOur only hope is the release clause kicking in next year and Klopp not wanting Munich to swoop in.
ReplyDeleteSell him now for more than the release clause to an English team and make sure their main rival doesn't get him next year.
That would imply some sort of passion in Balotelli's play and that doesn't seem to be one of his characteristics. Suarez was motivated by winning, Balotelli merely to being paid on time so he can continue being 'SUPER MARIO.'
ReplyDeleteill forgive you but the history books may not
ReplyDeleteSupposedly nothing serious.
ReplyDeleteProjected to be back for next weekend.
he still scored 14 goals........its funny the selective memory that occurs suarez being racist hardley adheres to the liverpool team spirit or values when you consider the number of black player we have or just the plain fact that its wrong but hey ho thats another story
ReplyDelete14 goals for a starting striker is average...not great...average. Clint Dempsey: 16 for Fulham a couple of years ago...maybe we should sign him.
ReplyDeleteJust read that he is staying at BVB. It probably 'll continue like "loves me, loves me not" till 31st August. I think, Rues 'll come to EPL on 31st night, for something like 42-45mn, unfortunately to MU. We are a master of goofing up transfers. Most big money transfers I wanted not to happen, went through in flash (& eventually ended in tears - starting from Jovanovic to Lallana), most transfers (Big or small money) that I wanted so much, ended for "few dollars more".
ReplyDeleteCommon sense tells me that Balotelli is an arrogant, childish, petulant fool, and that his antics can't be good for morale and dressing room harmony and that no sensible club should touch him with a ten foot pole. But at the same time a small part of me knows that he is a petulant fool with a superb right foot, and there is a chance that maybe, just maybe, he turns out to be an absolute beast of a forward. We shouldn't sign him, we really shouldn't, and yet.......
ReplyDeleteFit or suspended for red cards...unavailable is unavailable...except suspended for needless or violent fouls or threats against refs does more to hurt team chemistry than getting hurt while giving 100%.
ReplyDeleteDid you support us going after Remy?
ReplyDeleteYes, because I like his pace and ball skills. I really would like to know the reason the deal fell through. LFC is silent about the issue which probably means they can't break a confidentiality rule...which does hint that a failed medical IS the reason...doctor-patient confidentiality and all that. Yes he was charged with some sort of sexual assault some years past, but the charges were also thrown out for lack of evidence...and he has been no trouble since...lending credence to the 'thrown out' charges.
ReplyDeleteA) I agree with you that he would have been a nice signing.
ReplyDeleteB) He scored 14 goals last year.
Nice assist to aguero to win the league the same
