'El Tigre' to LFC? - Aldo urges BR to sign 'incredible' £35m goal-machine. Contact made with Agent in June

With only two weeks to go until the start of the new Premier League season, Liverpool are still struggling to replace Luis Suarez, and after the collapse of the Loic Remy deal, it seems increasingly likely that Brendan Rodgers may forego a new striker, and rely on the club's attacking midfielders to pick up the slack. That's certainly one way to go, but Anfield legend John Aldridge believes that a new striker is a must, and he's pinpointed one of Europe's top goalscorers as a potential LFC target.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Aldo insisted that Liverpool 'need another striker', and recommended Monaco star Radamel Falcao:

"Who is out there? Falcao, they're saying he had a horrendous season last year. He was a bit part of the player he was last season. If he can get back to where he was the previous season then he would be one wouldn't he?"

Liverpool were linked with Falcao in June, with Spanish newspaper AS claiming that:

* Liverpool contacted Falcao's agent and enquired about the possibility of a transfer.
* Brendan Rodgers sees the Colombian striker as a potential replacement for Suarez.
* Monaco are willing to sell for £35m.

At first glance, Falcao - who earned the nickname 'El Tigre' at Atletico Madrid - seems like the ideal signing, but the chances of a deal are arguably slim:

* It's unlikely that Liverpool will spend £35m on a 28-year old. I personally don't agree with this policy, but it seems to be the case that FSG will only sanction big-money moves for younger players.

* Falcao is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury. He'll take time to get back up to speed, and there's always a possibility that he'll struggle to recapture his pre-injury form.

* The Colombian's wages are probably prohibitive.

* Real Madrid are reportedly interested, and to be fair, playing alongside the likes of Ronaldo, Bale, and Rodriguez is probably far too enticing to refuse.

On top form, Falcao - recently described as 'incredible' by Claudio Ranieri - is a major asset, and his formidable stats over the last 4 years prove this:

* 119 goals/18 assists in 153 appearances.
* Goal every 1.3 games
* Goal/Assist every 1.1 games.

If things go wrong, though, it could be another Fernando Torres situation, i.e. the sad tale of how a once-amazing striker suffered a knee injury, and endured a downward spiral into comparative mediocrity.

To be honest, if it was down to me, I'd make it club policy to avoid signing any player with a cruciate ligament injury in their past. It's one of the worst injuries a footballer can suffer, and players never seem to recapture their best form after recovery. Just ask Lucas Leiva.

It's a non-issue anyway - Liverpool are seemingly incapable of attracting Europe's elite players, and based on past history, no amount of Ian Ayre proselytizing will convince Falcao to choose Anfield.

  1. Only Striker in the word whom I would consider as a direct replacement for Suarez is Ibhrahimovic.

  2. Don't know about Falcao and price tag and Injuries .
But We need striker mostly partner Daniel and champions league .

  3. Jaimie, the vast majority of people have never even heard of the word 'proselytizing'

    ReplyDelete
  4. Jamie what is his goal/assists to games ratio

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'll just add that to my list of reasons to die.

    ReplyDelete
  6. you certainly have my permission to die

  7. How about a loan move?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I agree 100%. I'd like to see us go all out for Reus.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't know how you can speak for the "vast majority" Nick, read a book.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Totally agree. Not worth the risk. I'd be happy with Bony for the coming season. Let Studge be the main man with Bony and Lambert as back up or alternative options. Borini likely to leave and Aspas already gone so possibly two decent strikers needed? What about Bony and Balotelli?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think Falcao is too big a risk for the above mentioned reasons. I also here we are being linked with balotelli because rogers mentioned his name. I thin we should stay a way from him too for the sake of the dressing room. Man's a bit of a nutter. Bony doesn't represent good value either. Reus would be brilliant, but very unlikely. Anyone else left? If not I we'll just have to develop one of our own. Any of the kids up for it?

  12. ffs, give over, it was light hearted. I have heard of the word, but I can tell you that most people aren't avid bookworms, and it's not a word which encounter frequently.

  13. Thought you were serious, my apologies! I just don't agree with the notion that articles should ever be simplified due to a fear of the "vast majority" failing to understand a word, or a phrase, or a paragraph. Nothing wrong with making works accessible of course, but there's also nothing wrong with enlightening others every now and then.

and we could line up like this next season

    #mignolet

    Sakho skrtel moreno Flanno

    Gerrard Hendo

    Coutinho

    Sturridge Falcao Rues

and the second team is like this

    #raina

    Lovren toure

    Javi Manquillo/ enreque

    emre Can Allen Lucas
    starling Lallana markovic
and then we have ricki lambert

  19. IF we get Falcao Sturridge will be sitting his selfish behind on the bench

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tevez for a season wouldn't be bad, pastore, lucas moura, reus, bakalli, loads out there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I totally agree with the cruciate ligament policy. I can't really think of a single player who's come back and been every bit the player they were before. I fear for young Yesil after suffering 2 cruciate injuries.
I can't see us going for Falcao. I don't think FSG will sanction that kind of deal for a 28 year old who's recovering from before mentioned injury and who would demand huge wages. The club sanction big money moves for younger players so they either have a player for ten years or potentially make a profit if the player decided to leave. It's a sensible way to run the club. Might not sit well with fans all the time but ultimately it's sustainable

    ReplyDelete
  22. On what do you base that statement? Either that Sturridge is selfish or that he would be benched by a player who's barely kicked a ball in a year?

    ReplyDelete
  23. On the basis that Sturridge is an amazingly selfish player and Falcao is a proven world class striker. I laughed when Sterling scored off of his bad shot and Henderson scored off of his bad control.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Someonehas bought the finacial takeover on career mode

    ReplyDelete
  25. Absolutely no chance. Sturridge has 49 goals/assists in 49 games for LFC (35 goals/14 assists); he is he main man, and deserves to be. Dropping a striker with return is gross negligence.

    ReplyDelete
  26. JK why do you got this folks so excited??? That gentleman is going to Madrid. BR shows a bit of love to Super Mario and everybody is saying LFC is chasing him. #bringreustoanfield

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's a real shame about Yesil; it's like his career is over before he's even had a chance to get going. He'll probably struggle to fulfil his potential after those two cruciate injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No offence mate but I laughed when I read your comment

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's fine. When the season starts and Sturridge starts wasting chances by taking shots from unrealistic positions instead of passing to an open teammate, I'll be laughing right back at you

    ReplyDelete
  30. As long as he keeps his current creative output then I'll be perfectly happy

    ReplyDelete
  31. "A little selfish", have you actually watched Sturridge play? Go watch the Liverpool vs Everton game and tell me that guy is the right kind of selfish.

    ReplyDelete
  32. To be fair he only said it was his backside that was selfish and to be fair mine tends to put itself firsts as well

    ReplyDelete
  33. No none of us have ever watched a match yet that is why we are looking forward to the new season

    ReplyDelete
  34. Your views are welcome here, but the overall tone of your posts is becoming increasingly antagonistic.

Please tone it down, and discuss/debate in a civil manner.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, same. I heard there's some solid diving, which has caught my interest, as I've always enjoyed watching the diving at the Olympics, and recently the Comm Games.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am keeping it civil but I am also calling out bull. Sturridge is by far more selfish than Suarez ever was. Suarez is a hard worker that doesn't mind playing wide if it means winning the game. Sturridge would sulk if Rodgers put him out wide because he isn't the man up top. Suarez is a team player that will pass the ball to Sterling to score vs just the keeper. Sturridge will try to take on 1-2 defenders instead of passing to a completely open Coutinho who just gave him an amazing through ball which lead to a goal. Do not even dare compare the two in terms of selfishness.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Calling Sturridge selfish implies that the way he plays is somehow detrimental to the team. it isn't, in any way, shape or form.

49 goals/assists in 49 games; LFC with a record goals tally last season; 2nd in the league etc - all of which is strong evidence to suggest that the way Sturridge plays is beneficial to LFC.

You have zero evidence to back up the assertion that Sturridge is 'selfish', or that his selfishness negatively impacts the team.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He IS detrimental to the team because he frustrates both the players and the management. Again, go watch the Liverpool vs Everton game if you want to see why.

And you mention his assists + GOALS, tell me his stats on just assists if you want me to take that seriously. Also, I do not count Sturridge mishitting a ball that leads to a goal as an assist.

I have zero evidence to back it up? Ok, let's see what happens come next season

    ReplyDelete
  39. I for one would love to see either Falcao or Ballotelli playing for us next season! Both I think would play exceptionally well under Rodgers guidance! We need a big-gun striker signing too, it would prove to the world we are serious club and can attract big names! So far our signings have made us a bit of a laughing stock, Scousehampton anyone? But Falcao would be a mammoth signing! The man is pure class!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Would be a great buy!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Liverpool also need a shirt seller for commercial reasons, as much as Suarez was a bad egg in terms of publicity, the club secretly loved it, Suarez FB account has 8m+ followers, all of which would watch him play for Liverpool. Coupled with our style of attacking football, and a big name like Falcao playing for us, we could still attract a global audience and recoup new and more fans worldwide! Gerrard aside, we do not have a global name at Liverpool now. We need one, FSG are aware of that fact too, I believe Falcao or Ballotelli could be the man we're after!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Saying, 'let's see what happens' is not evidence. You lose.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm starting to think we will try and sign Ballotelli when we play AC Milan. Might not be a bad idea, because if anyone can get him it live up to his potential it's Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I've already given ample evidence. Sturridge refuses to pass to teammates in a better goal scoring position than he's in, the only one he might actually pass to was Suarez and he's gone. I've given clear examples where Suarez has passed a ball to Sterling vs just the keeper while Sturridge won't even pass to Coutinho in an open position despite the fact Coutinho gave him an amazing through ball which he scored off of.

    ReplyDelete
  45. We won't sign anybody who would get DS on the bench or out wide.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The thing is if he had not miscontrolled the ball...would we have scored? So as far as I'm concerned he was in the right area making action that resulted in a goal

    ReplyDelete
  47. You are a Liverpool fan, aren't you? Why would you laugh if we start losing points becouse of DS selfishness? Just to be right in a discussion on a web site?!? Sad mate, just sad...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Two years ago, this would have been sublime. But with the major injury and his age, I'd prefer to go after someone different (and even spend a bit more money if I had to in the process)

    ReplyDelete
  49. That logic is seriously flawed, but the point is he never INTENDED to do it which is my point.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow!! I must ask with respect if you watch LFC's games, or just see highlights and quote stats. This is not a rehtorical question... I ask this because all the comments on here that fail to acknowledge Strurridge's lack of team play tell me that they may not know why the Vast majority of LFC fans get frustrated by Sturridge.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Would you really rather he passed to Coutinho Henderson or Allen or tried a shot himself?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Don't ask stupid questions. You'll just have to accept the fact that people - myself included - see thigns differently to you.

    ReplyDelete
  53. With respect I could not put it better myself and that is not rhetorical either

    ReplyDelete
  54. Like I said, It was not rehtorical or a joke in any way. It was a serious question because the comments on here are not displaying gameplay, but statistical anlysis.

Most LFC fans, particularly those that attend matches have said it time and time again that he frustrates the hell out of the Kop.

    ReplyDelete
  55. No really, can you honestly answer his question?

    ReplyDelete
  56. If they are open he should be passing to them instead of trying to take on 1-2 defenders and trying a shot from an impossible angle. I used the Coutinho example because he wouldn't even return the favor and help him bag one after he gave him an amazing through ball earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Give me a break. 'Most LFC fans' - based on what? Do you know 'most LFC fans'? No.

In my view, Sturridge is not a selfish player *to the detriment of the team*.

If he's a little selfish as a striker, I encourage that, and hope it continues. His prodigious stats (49 goals/assists in 49 games) prove categorically that he is doing something right, so the fact that he didn't pass to X during the Everton game last year is totally irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Listen, if it were a case where Liverpool was Borussia Dortmund or Real Madrid or even Chelsea, your "they *should* be selfish" comment would have its place. But this is not the case. There is a reason that the likes of Southampton, Swansea and Wigan performed so well with the likes of Pochetino, B. Rodgers and Martinez we're their managers respectively. It's beacause of the football phyliosphy that they adopted, and it's exactly what Brendan Rodgers is trying to implement at LFC.

Total Voetbal with intensity! That's what LFC is trying to adopt and Sturridge is not falling in line with the rest of his teamates. What LFC showed last season with Total Voetbal was interchanging of positions, short quick passes and high intensity TEAM pressure. Every player must put in a shift but Sturridge fails to do so. Suarez plenty of times, including the match against Arsenal at home has shown that it is possible for a striker to have a perfect match without scoring a single goal. Pressing opponents, chasing lose balls and be actively involved in the creation of chances. Thats what we need from uor strikers in this style of football, not a stationary no. 9 who thinks there is no other job on the pitch than to score. Assisting, is not the only entity of teamwork. Plus, those stats quoted, when analysed actually show what i'm trying to say. Sturridge despite your assist quotation actually averages ONE key pass per game... So that means, these assists were just him, being the last one to pass when someone takes a long shot from outside the box and scores, or he just got us plenty of penalties, which in my book shouldn't be counted as an assist.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sturridge 'frustrates both the players and the management' - How do you know this? Have Rodgers/Gerrard et al told you this?

Rodgers actually disagrees with you. In an interview last season, he said:

"He [Sturridge] came in here with this perception that he was selfish and that all he wanted to do was score goals and wouldn’t pass to anyone. Of course nothing could be further from the truth".

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/daniel-sturridge-team-player-says-6137089

I think it's pretty clear that Rodgers does *not* think Sturridge is a selfish player.

    ReplyDelete
  60. If your branding of "selfishness" is based on his number of assists, how about you take a look at Falcao's stats that Jaimie referenced... 119 goals and 18 assists over the past 4 years.

So based on your definition of selfishness and the fa, and your labeling Sturridge as selfish, you'd be replacing a selfish Sturridge with a selfish Falcao.

I'm not quite sure what your argument is then.

    ReplyDelete
  61. With the greatest respect, you have absolutely no credible evidence to back any of this up.

It's your opinion, and that's fine, but it does not represent reality in any way, shape, or form.

In fact, Rodgers himself disagrees with you re Sturridge's alleged 'selfishness'. Last season, he said:

"He [Sturridge] came in here with this perception that he was selfish and that all he wanted to do was score goals and wouldn’t pass to anyone. Of course nothing could be further from the truth".

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/daniel-sturridge-team-player-says-6137089

    ReplyDelete
  62. 'Most LFC fans' - I can vouch for that. I use Liverpool forums and the posters will tend to agree that Sturridge is overly selfish.

And Sturridge is selfish to the detriment of the team because his selfishness not only frustrates the fans, players and management but it also leads to wasted chances that can very easily lead to us dropping points.

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

    ReplyDelete
  64. Exactly what I said.

There's no denying Balotelli has talent. It's just a matter of getting his head on straight.

    ReplyDelete
  65. And on top of that, he scores consistently. He's not a streaky player. There aren't many games when he does not contribute either a goal or an assist.

There simply aren't many players in the league who do that, and that could probably extend to the other major leagues in Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Posts on LFC forums account for about 0.0000000001% of LFC's total worldwide fanbase.

And Sturridge is selfish to the detriment of the team because his selfishness not only frustrates the fans, players and management but it also leads to wasted chances that can very easily lead to us dropping points

Totally unfounded, and without any basis in fact.

    * Sturridge 'frustrates the players and the management'? Where's the evidence?

    * Wasted chances leading to dropped points? Where's the evidence?

Every player wastes chances. Players are entitled to waste chances, or do you expect every chance every created to end in a goal?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Or 5-6 years ago, when Falcao was one target of Benitez, if I remember right?!? That time price was about €5-6M...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Actions speak louder than words my friend. That article was dated back in October 2013, I'm sure Rodgers thinks differently after the Everton game THIS year.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yes, I'm sure Rodgers thinks Sturridge is far worse off after we finished 2nd in the league and Sturridge finished 2nd in the league in goals scored...

    ReplyDelete
  70. "I'm not quite sure what your argument is then." sums up the nonsense you just wrote. I never used Sturridge's assists to show he's selfish in the first place mate.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Which says nothing about how selfish Sturridge is. Are you actually thinking before you post? I mean that in the nicest way.

    ReplyDelete
  72. With respect, your speculation about Rodgers' possible mindset is not really relevant, is it?

It all comes back to the same thing: there is no evidence to back up your view that Sturridge's alleged selfishness negatively impacts on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  73. These are your words to Jaimie:

"And you mention his assists + GOALS, tell me his stats on just assists if you want me to take that seriously. Also, I do not count Sturridge mishitting a ball that leads to a goal as an assist."

If your argument of selfishness has nothing to do with his assist totals, why would his number of assists matter and why would you use that if it weren't an attempt to strengthen your overall point of view?

To be clear, I do agree with you last point about mishitting the ball. But that's a rare case. Using that to try and diminish his contribution is somewhat juvenile.

    ReplyDelete
  74. You have no argument. All you've advanced is subjective speculation and tenuous hearsay.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Without any basis? Again, have you actually watched most of Liverpool's games this season?

"Sturridge frustrates fans, players and management" - the evidence is in the Liverpool vs Everton game.

"Wasted chances leading to dropped points?" - You are clueless about football if you need me to explain this one

And players waste chances but to a certain degree. Again, a player with the right amount of selfishness like Suarez will square the ball to Sterling 2v1 against the keeper. Sturridge will try to take on defenders and score from a ridiculous angle instead of passing to a completely open teammate. If you can't understand the difference then this is pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was saying that if he is going to try to use goals and assist stats then he should at least use assists only because goals have absolutely no bearing on how selfish a player is. Assists also have little bearing which is why I avoid using that stat because Sturridge's mishit shot against Olympiakos is technically an assists even though he clearly did not mean to assist Sterling at all.

    ReplyDelete
  77. My argument is based on what I've seen throughout the season. Unlike you I have actually watched all of Liverpool's games this season.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You can keep repeating yourself till the cows come home, but you've advanced no evidence to persuasively show that Sturridge's alleged 'selfishness' negatively impacts LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Oh, how hypocritical. The article you posted was speculation to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  80. This is a bit of a time waster the Falcao thing. He is damaged goods. Balotelli is nuts. Dump the cash on Reus for upfront, Vidal for midfield, sell the deadwood, Agger, Coates, Johnson,Allen and maybe one of either Lucas, Robinson or Toure. Close the books, smile and go after the Prem title!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Evidence? Yet again do I have to point you to the Everton game? You keep ignoring this game because it proves you wrong on so many levels since it clearly shows how frustrated the players and management get when Sturridge behaves selfishly.

    ReplyDelete
  82. There's no hypocrisy at all; the article is obviously based on speculation. The difference is, I'm not trying to present speculation as fact.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Good thing we're signing Falcao and Vidal then. I wonder if they will announce the Neuer, Javi Martinez and Messi signings at the same time..

    ReplyDelete
  84. 31 goals in 43 games. If he can keep up that average he can be as selfish as he wants as far as I care.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What some people seem to forget is that strikers are actually strikers because they are the best player in the team at....scoring goals. Obviously if they keep passing the ball about, they won't actually be able to score so it makes perfect sense that they take a shot at goal whenever they can. Additionally, they are usually the player closest to goal so more often than not the player in the best scoring position. I hate it when people make these knee jerk comments like Sturridge is selfish or Ayre can't close a deal. They're nothing more than mindless parrots repeating what they hear.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Well that might be good enough for you but unlike most on here I actually think Sturridge can do better. I think once he lets his selfishness go and improves his decision making he will be a much more effective player than he is right now.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Another option would be not having to get his head straight by not signing him at all.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Suarez plays out wide or behind the strikers because he is able to, genius. Not all players are the same. Sturridge is a target man like Torres. Have you ever seen Torres play out wide? Or Owen? Or Ibrahimovic?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Pure fail. Sturridge has played wide several times, heck he was mostly deployed wide at City and Chelsea. What a disastrous comment.

    ReplyDelete
  90. So here we have what you think vs. what is fact. I'll take the 31 goals thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Knee Jerk!? huh... This why I asked if the people on here actually watched LFC's games or see highlights, goals and stats. Your comments are displaying a lack of football knowledge to the point that your justifying a players selfishness who plays in a team based, intense, creative, passing phylosophy...

    ReplyDelete
  92. See... again with these stats. I've tried to explain those stats to you already, he averages ONE key pass per game. But I'm not going to base my argument on mear 'soccer stats'. You have still failed to answer my question if you do watch LFC's matches or not... You thought I was trying to be clever or cute but It was a serious question because you keep asking for evidence that cannot be articulated as a STATISTIC. The evidence are in the games my friend.

I speak as someone who's had the pleasure of experiencing the Kop a couple of times this past season. The essence of Total Voetbal is to share responsibilty throughout the whole 11 players, yes including the goalie. If you attack, you attack as a team. If you defend, you defend as a team in sync. Please put your stats away for a minute. Because you keep asking for stats and numbers, you may have mis understood the argument into thinking I have a problem with his lack of creativity. Like I said assists are not the only entity to teamwork.

During build up play where everyone else take sone touch, passes and finds anther position, Sturridge remains on the ball. He drops unecessarily deep taking a silly amount of touches no other midfielder would take in that position and plays Gerrard like balls across the pitch. Thus distrupting any momentum of build up play. He does this, each and every match which is just different to anyone else. When teamates play him wall passes, running into open space expecting the one touch return pass (like you do with Total Voetbal and tiki taka) he completely ignores them, takes unecessary touches and plays the ball in an unconstructive position. When teamates run across the box, Sturridge ALWAYS uses them as decoys, and never attempts to pick one out. When Suarez and Sterling press opponents in their half, he runs towards the box hoping for a pass if the ball is retrieved instead of pressing himslef.

These are behaviours you pick out when you watch matches. These are not things I can implement into the form of statistics for you. He has always done as he wishes. LFC still get results because we had 10 other players who we're trying to play the way Manager wanted and so Sturridge was provided with multiple chances. But now that Suarez has gone and Sturridge must work his socks of, he is currently being exposed. If you have watched any of LFC's pre-season games you will see what I'm saying. Suarez would do all the chasing and pressing for Sturridge but now he's not there, Sturridge has struggled this pre-season. All other players are beginging to shone now. The like of Hendo, Coutinho, Sterling, Lambert and potentially Markovic are the ones connecting passes and interchaging positions cleverly. Sharing responsibility in defense and attack and getting their rewards with their goals from Hendo and Sterling. Sturridge however continues to walk his own path on the pitch and has thus not found the back of the net ONCE this pre-season. THAT is evidence of the footballing phylosophy Brendan has brought to LFC manifesting itself more and more.

    ReplyDelete
  93. "If he can keep up that average he can be as selfish as he wants as far as I care."

I was responding to that part, genius. His current form may be good enough for you but my point is I know he can do much better by wasting less chances due to his selfishness.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Just one simple question, if Sturridge is so selfish and his attitude frustrates Rodgers and his teammates so much, why, in your opinion, is Rodgers still playing him ?

    ReplyDelete
  95. No you don't "know" that, you "think" you "know" that. There is a difference. So far all you and I "know" is that he's scored 31 goals in 43 games which is a goal scoring output rivaled by very few strikers on the planet. If you actually "know" things that have never happened but will happen, I suggest you focus your magic powers on the lottery numbers. Much more productive then showing off your omnipotence on here.

  96. Rodgers still plays him because he's still a good finisher. There's no problem with Sturridge when it comes to the chances he should be taking on by himself, the issue is him not being too selfish to be a team player and not passing to open players for the sake of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  97. "Well that might be good enough for you but unlike most on here I actually THINK Sturridge can do better. I THINK once he lets his selfishness go and improves his decision making he will be a much more effective player than he is right now."

That's what I originally wrote, genius. I've already established that I am talking about my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Is 14 assists in 49 games a bad return for a center froward whose job is to finish and does it tremendously well? Look up the assist stats of the other center forwards of this league and you'll understand that you are way off the mark with your Sturridge is selfish campaign.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've already addressed the assists statistics. Sturridge's "assist" to Sterling for example was a pure miskick yet that is technically an assists. This is why I debate with people who watch most of liverpools games rather than people that just throw up statistics.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Would people please stop with the meaningless stats. For goodness sake, watch the games then you see what we're tying to say here. If you don't watch LFC play, then we cannot constructively debate this honetly.

If you want stats, take this one. Sturridge averages ONE key pass per game... !!!??? Tell me something about that because thats just horrendous for any player whatever the position. That means all his assist stats are just him being the last one to pass to someone who scores a long range shot from outside the box, straying mis-hit shots falling to the feet of a teamate or him just earning us penalties, ALL OF WHICH YOU SHOULD ALL KNOW IF YOU WATCHED A MATCH!!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Nice, wow I never realised he had an almost Suarez esque record

    ReplyDelete
  102. If you want your future posts to remain live, then drop the condescending attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ssshhhh I was saving that stat!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I smell another myth debunking article

    ReplyDelete
  105. We are 4-0 up and Sturridge is on a hat trick thats a good enough reason to be selfish in my book when the game is dead and buried

    ReplyDelete
  106. Every single player in the world has assists attributed to them which weren't intentional. You'd have to review every single assists stat or even goals stats then. What about the goal attributed to Suarez against West Ham, when the ball was going to yards wide ?

You seem to base that idea that Sturridge is selfish essentially on a couple of incidents where he didn't pass the ball to his teammates who were seemingly in better positions. The fact is 98% of the time he does pass that ball, and beyond that he does his main job which is to score.

The reasons of your rant are pretty hard to understand.

    ReplyDelete
  107. loool, listen mate, its all banter at the end of the day.. I presume we're both LFC fans right?, just with alot of passion.

I've addressed all the stats points people keep throwing, but no one has addressed my points that involve actual gameplay. Thats what makes me think that many here do not watch LFC's games.

    ReplyDelete
  108. It's perfectly possible to get your point across without constantly suggesting that you are the only person who actually watches LFC play.

To suggest that Liverpool fans on a Liverpool website do not watch Liverpool play is plainly ludicrous, so stop going on about it and stick to discussing the issues at hand.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Robin van Persie has 0.8 and Dzeko has 0.6 yet they get respectable tallies every season

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'm talking about the points of view from live commentary on live matches my friend, not basic opinion. This is the view of the Kop, I should know, as someone who attended Anfield last season.

All the credible evidence I need is the quality that other Top class strikers show to pick out teamates and increase the probability for a goal. If LFC had that in Sturridge, the league would have been ours, NO doubt about it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Haven't agree with you much of late Jamie, but you're spot on this time with this comment...couldn't agree with you more.

    ReplyDelete
  112. "Every single player in the world has assists attributed to them which weren't intentional. You'd have to review every single assists stat or even goals stats then. What about the goal attributed to Suarez against West Ham, when the ball was going to yards wide ?" - Which is why I don't use assists to determine if a player is selfish in the first place.

98% of the time he does pass the ball? I'm not even going to bother asking you to validate that number because I'm sure you plucked it out of the air, but I will ask you to show that he is anywhere close to it while he's in the oppositions penalty and a teammate is in a better goal scoring position than him.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Ibra is a lazy lump with small bit of technical ability who relies on match fixing to win titles

    ReplyDelete
  114. You mean Van Persie that got the same amount of goals as Ricky Lambert who also managed to fit in 10 assists?

    ReplyDelete
  115. But you have not come across like a person who has watched even most of Liverpool's games this season. I'm being honest here when I say that I would not be surprised if you haven't even watched half.

    ReplyDelete
  116. No, this is not the 'view of the kop', and it's a little arrogant to presume to know the collective mindset of thousands of LFC fans.

Again: you have zero evidence to back up your view on this issue. It's just unfounded speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  117. It still counts as a pass

    ReplyDelete
  118. No it's not. He just praised Coutinho for his through ball earlier and was too selfish to even let Coutinho take a shot. The reactions of Coutinho, Suarez and Rodgers said it all.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I mean the Van Persie who has scored 60 goals in the prem in the last 3 seasons

You are using stats in the wrong context Robert Snodgrass got 2.2 KP per game let buy him use him as a striker in our first team and displace the 20+ goals of Daniel Sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  120. Torres and Falcao together

on the contrary we could have bought Suarez when Ajax was demanding £40m

    ReplyDelete
  121. Now i'm on the recieving end of condesending attitue. I tried to apologise for any offense and lighten the mood but your comment sugesting that my pionts on watching matches being Ludicrous is completely disrespectful. I asked a genuine question at the begining and was on the receiving end of abuse. I gave my reason for asking that question because of the frequency of stats quotations in this debate.

But the frustrating thing is, no one has actually answered the question.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Suarez was nuts when we bought him

    ReplyDelete
  123. Would you have preferred 'the vast majorityof times' ? That's what I meant anyway.

Anyway listen, there is a saying that goes 'If you've made your point, stop talking'. I've made mine so I'll end this joke of a debate here.

I'm sure that anyone not motivated by some sort of agenda would agree that the accusations of Sturridge being selfish are unfounded. I mean you even had to make up that LFC's management and the players are frustrated with him. When you invent stuff you can't be taken seriously, I'm sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I like the way you're trying to ignore the fact that both the fans that attend Anfield and the fans that use online forums say the same thing. I also recall igniz bringing up quite a relevant statistic that you've conveniently avoided.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Relax we were 4-0 up what's the worse that could have happened

    ReplyDelete
  126. And what point have you made? All you've proven is that you're capable of plucking random statistics out of the air.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Key passes applies to playmakers more than strikers

    ReplyDelete
  128. And anyway Sturridge was on the verge of making history, how many players ever scored a hat trick in the merseyside derby

    ReplyDelete
  129. DS is selfish and wastefull! Yes his return was great last season, but the numbers dont show shots taken (on and off target). It will be interesting to see DS average without LS in the team! I am worried for us, and hope DS will prove me wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  130. looool! Good one mate! I'm actually having abit of fun on here... But thats not being constructive. Thats just trying to be cute and clever. Snodgrass didn't get picked to go to the world cup did he. Snodgrass didn't get 13 goals and 10 assists last year did he. Be constructive man, not condescending.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Yes strikers should be somewhat selfish - know when to shoot instead of pass it.

But it's not hard to see that Sturridge, on occasion, has been selfish to the point where it is detrimental to the team. On numerous occasions he has decided to go solo where passing was the best option - this was clear to anyone watching the games. It has been detrimental because a) opportunties being lossed to create clear cut chances (when he himself didn't have one, and b) the secondary effect of upsetting his teammates. On more than one occasion he has left teammates visibly upset - Suarez mainly, but also Sterling, Coutinho, even Aspas (yes that 1st stoke game last season). Missed chances can lead to lost points, or in last season's situation an inferior goal difference.

It's not 100% the case that he's 100% selfish all of the time, but has at times been too selfish, looking for personal glory rather than for the benefit of the team. On the balance, his impact is very positive, but I'm sure he's ruffled a few feathers and caused discord in the dressing room after some of these games.

His game could improve with a little more creativity, less selfishness - he's perfectly cabable of it.

Critical realism is all - what's with the Sturridge enabling?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Key passes applies to attacking players fairly evenly.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Rodgers is commenting on Ballotelli in the press, so I thought it was relevant.

    ReplyDelete
  134. No, I don't think you get that if you just praised someone for providing a goal on a plate for you the least you could do is pass to them when they are completely open and you have defenders on you.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I never denied it was relevant. All I'm saying is there's no time to waste baby-sitting in such an important season.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Strikers have the right to go it alone, and Sturridge should be going solo and trying to make things happen. With his strike rate, going solo obviously pays dividends, not only for him, but for the team too.

If Sturridge doesn't pass sometimes, big deal. Every attacking player does the same (i.e. try a shot/dribble etc when there's a better ball on).

LFC finished 2nd in the league, with a record goals haul - Sturridge's alleged selfishness is not the reason the Reds didn't win the title. He did his job, and then some, and if the likes of Aspas, Coutinho etc have a problem with Sturridge occasionally not passing then tough luck.

When they contribute to the team as much as Sturridge, then they can complain. The same applies with Suarez. He (IMO) is more selfish with the ball than Sturridge, but who cares? Look at his goals/assists return. That's all that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Ibrahimovic, probably the most vain forawrd in the world right now might flirt with female interviwers st post-match interviews. He might ask channels to reply his incredicble blind pass assists. But he has a total of 70 Key passes in the French League and is the most creative player in that league.

Falcao,no way,he won't even consider our offer when madrid is on his tail

    ReplyDelete
  139. We need another striker. He wouldn't be my first choice either, but with Sturridge's injury record we definitely need someone. Rodgers knows how to nurture lost souls and if you read what he said about MB, don't be surprised if we move for him. I personally would put every effort into signing Rues!!:-)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Winning a penalty counts as an assist. Also, the number of times Sturridge passed to a teammate in a better position to score is not reflected in that statistic.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Spot on once again Jaime. We seem to be agreeing far too often these days for my liking ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  142. JK z 2 pessimistic6:48 pm, August 02, 2014

I appreciate the depth of knowledge and appreciation of footballing issues by Jamie but goodness me, I don't even remember the last time he wrote something remotely optimistic. Try not to take the fun out of watchin football man. We all love LFC and would prefer to hope for the best

    ReplyDelete
  143. It's not always a big deal - but occasionally it is - I'd say maybe 20% of games. It hasn't become a major issue, but could.

What could happen (and has happened in at least 1 game with Sterling) is that the other playes may retaliate, and go it alone out of spite. If this were to happen in say 2 or 3 games in a row, it could cause a real rift, and damage team morale.

As I say, not a huge issue yet, but will be interesting to see how he operates without Suarez there, whether he goes alone more often, and what effect it will have on his,and the team's goal tallies.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Positive change is not driven by 'hoping for the best', either in football, or in life. Realities need to be faced and attacked head-on for real change to take place.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Looooool! even when someone wants to make peace you have found another generic argument. Loooool!

    ReplyDelete
  146. What does Suarez have to do with it? Suarez is (IMO) way more selfish with the ball than Sturridge, but it doesn't make any difference to how he performs.

    ReplyDelete
  147. JK z 2 pessimistic7:03 pm, August 02, 2014

Don't get me wrong mate. I understand your need to bring about change. I even understand your method in your attempt, pursuant of the cause. Even so, all I am saying is that at times, you honestly create in people's minds, or my mind at least, the notion that LFC cannot produce results and will not, will not choose to, will never do so.....get what I mean. I don't wish for you to type what you don't think is true. I just ask that you try and see the positives that are there at times

    ReplyDelete
  148. The ability to make a pass that looks like a miskick in order to wrong foot the defence takes great skill.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I appreciate your view, but I post plenty of positive stuff about a variety of topics. You and others have minds of your own; my view is only one of millions out there, and those who don't like it are free to ignore it.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Careful what you wish for. The last positive article was about signing Remy and look what happened there:-)

    ReplyDelete
  151. You can say that again, I said you can......

    ReplyDelete
  152. The point about Suarez is - how will his absence affect Sturridges behaviour?? On two fronts 1) Suarez was the undoubted main man when playing, now that he's gone, Sturridge might assume that he is the main man, and might cause him to behave/play differently (or not) - for instance most of Sturridge's assists were to Suarez - not having anyone immediately above him in the pecking order could lead to a decrease in his creative numbers as there is no pressure to defer to the top dog.

    2) The other aspect is how Sturridge will play without Suarez there to create, draw defenders, etc.

A totally valid question. There's a small sample of games where Sturridge played on his own - 5 league games last year, sturridge got four goals, team averaged a goal a game - vs. the 3 goals a game w/ Suarez. But this season - Sturridge could be a totally different animal - could be bad - he could struggle without the support, or fail to support teammates, or could be good - he could step up and be a leader.

As for your opinion about Suarez being more selfish stats would suggest otherwise - in terms of chance creation, he was one of the top chance creators in Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  153. JK z 2 pessimistic7:11 pm, August 02, 2014

Ok ok mate. Get this though. The reason why I have even written to you is because I genuinely appreciate your knowledge of the game as I have said before. I do not mean you post negative stuff only. In fact, I didn't even use the word negative. All I am talking about is the pessimism in most of what I have come across which you have posted. Your views are yours. True. Just trying to make conversation and see If we could perhaps arrive at some point of common ground. If you disagree, I will take that also so no pressure man. Just my view

    ReplyDelete
  154. @Stuart C.....LOL. Well, maybe we didn't sign him so we could sign someone better. For me, the reason why I am happier this time around is that at least we have signed some people. We have options. We have strengthened. Yes, the loss of LS7 was significant but we have finally had a transfer season where we do something. We must repeat something like last season to be able to attract big names. I think it is still too premature. For too long were we suspended in mediocrity. We will improve more if we stay in the champions league

    ReplyDelete
  155. Do you think there's a player in the world fans don't get frustrated with? You say "the vast majority of fans" but I think if you were to ask the vast majority of Liverpool fans if they were satisfied with sturridge you would get a resounding yes

    ReplyDelete
  156. You see it as pessimism, but I see it as realism. The problem is most fans (in my experience) have a narrow view of what constitutes being a football supporter. When someone veers outside the collective expectation of how a fan is supposed to behave, they're labelled as negative, pessimistic etc.

And that's fine - it's to be expected.

What some fans just can't grasp (not you, I'm just speaking generally) , is that there is room for all sides of the debate. I present the critical view of LFC; other sites offer a different perception of the club. All points of view can be accommodated, and it's far healthier this way.

Challenging accepted beliefs keeps things fresh, and forces people to justify their views, which in turn helps people to solidify those views in their minds.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I watched every Liverpool game last season and saw sturridge have an absolutely brilliant season only bettered by Suarez who actually statistically was far more wasteful than Sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  158. Your argument is that Sturridge is selfish. While I disagree with that to an extent, it is a subjective topic. Every striker is selfish to an extent.

In my opinion, I don't care if he's selfish as long as he performs well and as long as the team is winning.

He performed well and the team had it's best result in years.

Whatever he and the team did last year, it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I agree there is lots to be positive about after many years of mediocrity.

I am very hopeful that Sterling will fill a large part of the Suarez gap and I have always rated Sturridge since he joined. He has pace, balance and grace and I believe (hope) their partnership could be very special..

    ReplyDelete
  160. Did Rodgers not haul him off in that game for being selfish? So he's probably learned from the only game you keep referring to bit the fact we were 4-0 up and on a hat-trick in a local derby, I can kinda understand why he was being more selfish than usual

    ReplyDelete
  161. One think where I think Sturridge excelled in where Suarez did not is the ability to handle pressure and big situations. Suarez for all his brilliance would often go missing against the Chelsea's and the Man City's whereas Sturridge does not. That is one of the reasons Suarez resorts to biting people. I believe that this season, we will be very solid at the back and not score as many as last season. We have an insane amount of pace in our team and we will look to counter a lot. Sterling, Ibe, Sturridge, Markovic, Lallana and Coutinho all have an element of pace to them and if successful, we could have another good season. I think we will do well in the CL.

    ReplyDelete
  162. It really doesn't. It's far more critical for the playmaker who's job it is TO MAKE KEY PASSES than it is for the centre forward who's job it is to score goals. That is Sturridge's main role in the team and he's performing very well at that

    ReplyDelete
  163. But I don't want a striker to create I want a striker to score
Would yoy take Kevin Mirallas over Sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  164. In my view he flopped in Spain and needed match fixing to get the job done in Italy

    ReplyDelete
  165. Yea I would think so. He'll still fathom a career for himself but I'll be very surprised if he ends up as a top European striker after suffering those injuries so young. Shame for the lad

    ReplyDelete
  166. Hi gents, just wanted to throw in my pennies worth on this selfish Sturridge issue. Firstly thanks to all the lads/ladettes who backed Sturridge with intelligent arguments including stats etc. Kudos to you JK for this website, I've been on other LFC forums & IMO there's a tinge of unhealthy jingoism/racism which I've been determined to stay away from.
Back to the subject at hand, a bit of selfishness is a prerequisite for all top strikers otherwise you'd question their confidence if they passed everytime they had the opportunity to shoot. Sturridge's contribution last season was paramount to us finishing 2nd especially if you remember our first 10 games. The stats don't tell everything but they surely distinguish between tripe & class. Sturridge is class, I believe the best English striker in the league.
The selfish/attitude thing is a myth based on an misconception about his personal confidence. This has been proved by the lack of evidence presented by his critics on this site. They mention the Everton game as proof! Mmmmmm so Andy Carroll is a world beater based on the Man City game??!!!!!!
Sturridge is integral to LFC's future if your frustrated about that go support Everton or Man Utd!

    ReplyDelete
  167. I agree...That said, I want to post the view that we have come a long way. I am overly positive because I lost someone so special to me round about 2010 which is when our downfall as LFC was turning ugly. My plight had nothing to do with LFC at first but then, I developed acute stress (borderline depression), and it manifested physically. Went to the docs and he gave me meds but then also suggested I find a coping mechanism. Obviously, it was footy.

As you can probably imagine, my stress was exacerbated by LFC's acute downturn. This went on until I became immune. So after years of abject dejection and being the subject of incessant mockery from Manure fans, I am positive. I see the negatives you mention but I am definitely happy that we are trying to do something about it. I encourage BR and the team to keep pushing for better. Twas never going to be easy to get the team ticking. Even so, we are getting there

    ReplyDelete
  168. I think it is good to see all sides of a debate and having a healthy critical discussion. But in the end I find it's much easier if people just accept I'm right and agree with me

    ReplyDelete
  169. In fact Coutinho ought to take lessons from Sturridge on finishing because he missed some absolute sitters last season!

    ReplyDelete
  170. True. I agree. We may also still go on to get a superstar striker too. If we do, even better. We will then probably have a less leaky defense but score goals again. Lacazzete aint bad. Lavezzi, not as good on the scoring part but with a well oiled LFC mid, he could do well.

If you have seen Markovic and especially Can, you would be smiling. If you have seen Lallana at S'oton, you would be happy too. Lets see if they can handle champions league

    ReplyDelete
  171. True - in fact I would argue that Coutinho was more wasteful/selfish than sturridge - taking a ton of shots from 30yds+ that would never hit the target - would have been better off playing to a teammate.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I was thinking the same, remember against Hull when he took on the entire team and shot straight at the keeper

    ReplyDelete
  173. I disagree entirely the vast majority of Liverpool fans are more frustrated by our leaky defence and our sub par keepers than our attackers who lets not forget reached 100 goals this season

    ReplyDelete
  174. That's exactly the game I had in mind, I think he still needs to earn that right for people to pass to him in scoring opportunities the same way Sturridge had to when he first came.

    ReplyDelete
  175. A striker should be largely selfish....

    ReplyDelete
  176. Exactly. Sturridge and Sterling are probably the two players in the squad that fans are least frustrated with

    ReplyDelete
  177. Very true! Do you think that aspect of his game cost him a World Cup place?

    ReplyDelete
  178. Nah Scolari was just stupid to pick Paulinho Ramires Fred and Hulk over him

    ReplyDelete
  179. Sturridge has worn that 'selfish' tag like a bag of bricks swinging from his neck since his days at Chelski. In fact, he did exhibit plenty of selfishness, as would any talented striker who was given very limited game time and was desperate to impress. I have repeatedly heard opposition fans regurgitating what they have read on websites and in the tabloids and professing that it is their own opinion. But having watched Sturridge week in week out for a season and a half I can confidently say that this is , to be frank, a bag of b@llocks. Citing one or two game examples where he might have passed to a player in a better position is a ludicrously poor argument for his supposed self-indulgence. His first instinct is to shoot; that's the mentality that has made him such a lethal weapon for Liverpool. Long may it continue.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I think another viable option is still to highjack the Vidal move to United and allow Sterling to move further up the pitch. Pay the money! An out and out world class striker without big question marks is almost impossible atm, but his experience, power, leadership and command of an area higher up the pitch would be immense. Need Mignolet to man up, Lovren and Sakho to get an understanding, (Flanagan aside who still isn't given enough credit) some consistency in the FBs, Gerrard/Henderson, Can and Vidal the spine and presence, with any combination of creative Markovic, Lallana, Coutinho, Henderson etc.. around Sturridge and Sterling, and Lambert when needed. That level of strength through the middle would also allow the introduction of youth players into the team with little fear of "disaster". (apologies for the essay)

    ReplyDelete
  181. Falco is 28+ & had a long injury lay off. He is entering into the age when strikers start to fade in EPL. May be when Rafa tried o sign him, it was perfect, but now for 35mn it's a big risk (& he 'll come with Suarez like wage).

I actually like the idea of Balotelli - at 23/24 he has best part of a decade of his golden time remaining. If anyone, it's BR, who can solve his personal issues & I think, Mario also should understand that his options are running out. For someone of his capability at 23, going for 14mn, is an alarming sign for the player, who should realize that, but for his attitude, his price would have been 3 times. No denying the talent of the man who is brilliant in air, either feet & equally effective running through the middle or flanks. At LFC, he 'll find his ego some what satisfied as he 'll be certainly starting & starting at CF position. A potential 23-25 goal striker, if he can play for 35-38 matches. A deserving No. 9 (Next year, once Lambert goes to pension).

    ReplyDelete
  182. One game does not define a player. Steven Gerrard slipped against Chelsea and cost LFC the game; should his whole season be defined by that game? Of course not.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Dude.....never go full retard.

    ReplyDelete
  184. He did very well at Barcelona and at Juventus he was so good that they won title with match fixing help

    ReplyDelete
  185. A lot of people seem to forget Sturridge has had ONE full season - O N E !!! UNO!! UN!! EINZ!!! He has the balls to make mistakes, but on the whole, he doesn't go missing and gives it everything and has scored not only plenty, but some spectacular goals as a result!! I agree that he WILL do better, but not in a manner to bemoan his current and previous contributions. I'm very happy he's at LFC and not wasting away on the bench at another top club.

    ReplyDelete
  186. If I was Sturridge I wouldn't give a toss of what Suarez and Coutinho had to say because we've virtually won the game I'm on the verge of making history while putting myself among the Liverpool legends by scoring a derby hat trick

Moses came on for Suarez and done nothing while Suarez and Coutinho did nothing as well for the rest of the match if Sturridge stayed on he almost certainly would have increase his tally because of his selfishness

    ReplyDelete
  187. Juve were match fixing, don't think you can say the same about barca. He's won trophies at every single club he's been at. His goalscoring record has been consistently top notch throughout his entire career at both club and international level. That's not all through match fixing. Granted he's a bit of a dick but there's no doubting his quality

    ReplyDelete
  188. You've got sakho at right back and Moreno at centre half. Says it all really...

    ReplyDelete
  189. Here here mate! Sometimes I wonder if there's anything he can do to be fully accepted. Like I said true fans realise his worth. The only thing I'll add is that he needs to sustain this level to be considered an LFC legend!

    ReplyDelete
  190. I think you're right, he was overlooked!

  191. I watched every game last season except the 1 cup game that wasn't televised. So here's my two-pence worth for consideration, not an attack on your opinion.

I want Sturridge to have a bit of a "selfish streak".

Once he starts taking less shots it's very probable he'll start scoring less goals, which would undoubtedly lead to a drop in confidence, which has every probability of leading to an extended period of him scoring less goals, which can only be bad for Liverpool.

There were a lot of times last season when a pass may have been the better decision, but instead Sturridge took a shot and there's a few reasons I'm glad of that - It shows his desire to score, his confidence in his own ability and, as a result of that desire and confidence (which I suggest are the positive results of his "selfish streak") we were treated to wonderful goals from him last season.

  192. Way overrated and over the hill we bought a 32 year old for 4 million why pay 32 million for a selfish show - pony with a messiah complex?
