Done Deal: 'Tremendous' LFC star to quit Anfield this week in cut-price transfer. Loss?

Brendan Rodgers has overhauled Liverpool's full-back positions this summer, and it appears that homegrown left-back Jack Robinson is the latest casualty of the LFC's squad rebuilding programme.

According to The Mirror this week:

"Harry Redknapp is signing Liverpool left back Jack Robinson. [QPR] agreed a deal worth around £1 million for Robnson, who [is] headed for London to finalise the move".

Reds legend Dietmar Hamann recently pinpointed Robinson as one particular youngster he believes is good enough for a permanent promotion to the first team. He tweeted:

"I really like Jack Robinson, and I think he'll be a regular in the first team before too long"

How things change: Last year, Robinson - hailed by John Aldridge as a 'tremendous' prospect - received a call-up to the England Under-21 squad for the Euro 2013 play-off against Serbia, something that delighted Rodgers, who enthused:

“Young Jack has been doing very well. He’s had a lot of exposure to the first team as a young player already, but he’s done very well recently and it’s good news for him"

Soon after, Rodgers farmed Robinson out on loan to Blackpool, and as I repeatedly argue on this site, loaning out young players is usually the kiss-of-death for their LFC careers.

As proven again here, the harsh reality is that the majority of LFC youngsters who go out on loan ultimately end up on the Anfield scrapheap.

On the plus side, Robinson is staying in the Premier League, and with QPR in disarray at the moment, there's clearly a chance for the 21-year old to stake his claim for regular first team football.

  1. I really hope things work out for him. He looked like the real deal when he first played for us, then he never really seemed to develop...

  2. I think Jack will turn out to be a great player. I hope BR has put a buy-back option in the deal. If he fulfills his promise, we may need to get him back in the next 3 years.

The so-called scrap heap as you put it , is a fact of life at all top Premier League clubs. The club receive a fee and Jack continues his career. I don't understand the problem , if there is one ?

  4. Kelly 1.5 million Johnson worthless. Texiera is better than Suso, keeping the wrong ones.

  5. Allen was better than Hendo in the first half. Dropped off in the second.

  6. He seemed quite one footed too.

  11. as phrases go tremendous prospect can be applied to anyone who can kick a ball and is thrown at every player at a club over 16...the reality is he has never progressed from his debut several seasons ago and in fact has gone backwards Imo....

  12. 5 out of 5, Its ok buying a new defence but they need to be coached properly, yes I know we are only 2 games in but loose at Spurs and that's 3 points out of 9, playing catch up before the end of August ! I just hope BR isn't another Keegan, very entertaining going forward but leaking goals and never won anything, hope im wrong.

  15. I know this is off topic and I apologise but come on MK DONS.. 4 - 0 !!!!

Before anybody says this was Utd second string you have to remember that between the first 11 they had over 800 appearances so second string yes, in experience no.

As for Jack, My brother in Law is a Blackpool Season Ticker holder (yeah he is pain) and watched most of their games and his assessment of Jack Robinson was he started well but by mid season had tailed off quite badly. His positional play wasn't the best and players who had a burst of pace would often give him a lot of trouble.

I am sure he is a nice lad and I hope he does well if he does move on, same for any young kid to be honest but he will never be good enough for Liverpool.

  16. Fulham Wonderkid. I'm honestly not that impressed with him though. But keep in mind, Ibe is 18 and Robinson, Wisdom, Suso, and most of the other rumored youth exits are all like 22. They are at a point that they need a transfer. If we bring Roberts, it wouldn't necessarily mean the immediate downfall of Ibe. I would think once both of them reach age 21, a decision will be made on which one to keep. Still a good 3 years.

  17. In the next 3 years he'll be like 25 and wasting his life away. Why do that when he can start for a Championship team? Besides, we have Smith who is only like 2-3 years younger, and Moreno who is only a year older.

  18. I mean, Suso, Flano, Sterling, Texeria, Wisdom, even Kelly and Spearing to an extent all look to make a very good career for themselves, either away from LFC or at LFC. I mean, even Spearo is captain at Bolton now, isn't he? When was the last time a City youth product even came close to that, even after a few transfers?

  19. For me, we always look our best when we play the 4-4-2 diamond. Hendo is at his best when playing on the right of the diamond and Can, Lallana and I think Coutinho could do a job there. I've often thought Coutinho is better playing slightly deeper. Sterling can play at the tip of the diamond or just off Sturridge with a licence to roam and drift out wide.
I think 4-2-3-1 is Rodgers preferred formation but we need a mobile, ball winning defensive midfielder to sit beside Gerrard for that to be effective. With the players currently available I think the diamond suits us best

  20. Your analysis is bang on. Gerrard has no defensive awareness at all. He lets players ghost past him as if there are 9 other men defending behind him. Sick of people overlooking it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've always thought that if Gerrard isn't a starter he would retire as quickly as he could. That, or move to America. He wouldn't hang around like the United legends.

I believe Rodgers just overlooks all the problems. He created it, so he needs to solve it. Allen is worth a shot there, I watched the match twice and he knows how to track runners.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If Moreno is unfit then it's Enrique and Manquillo back in for me. Gerrard out, Balotelli can take the pens now :)

Allen is worth a shot at DM, he can track runs and actually do the job properly. I also believe that the shunning of Enrique and Suso is poor man management by Rodgers. Both a better option than Toure on the bench. No reward for Suso's good run of form throughout preseason at all.

  23. Vidal ASAP , nuke Lucas, Allen and sit SG more starting now...........

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not a chance. Ibe can easily play in starting 11 in the cup games and is better than Borini and Luis Alberto atm . But BR doesnt want him to waste even a bit of time (surely he is touted the next one to make it in Liverpool's 11 and rightly so ).

    ReplyDelete
  25. Even if we buy Roberts , he will be loaned out for 1-2 years until he is ready. I hope we also keep in touch with Odegaard

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agree completely that Suso should see some time even more than Ibe who I really like.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Enrique or Flanno could cover Moreno. If injured. On the right Manquillo or Flanno waaaay ahead of Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Schneidelin would do if blind or Vidal can't be had...

  29. How can this possibly escape Rodgers?

  30. Sad but true about Stevie....end of an era although still the best at set pieces but then thers the rest....

  31. we were not 'really' good. And this level wont get us top 4. We need to step up and speed up our passing

  33. Forget Roberts and develop Texeira, Peterson and Ibe........

  34. well said mate

  35. I really think its about time Steven Gerrard retired. Both he and the club deserve better than this..

  36. Hmmm, tremendous LFC star. Jaimie, you've read British tabloids too much. Have a little patience with the headlines please.
