Done Deal 5: LFC to sign £8m star who once had his 'heart set' on Anfield transfer

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of signing QPR striker Loic Remy.

The Reds have been linked with Remy many times over the last couple of years, and the 27-year old striker has a soft-spot for LFC, as revealed by his agent in 2012:

"He [Remy] has his heart is set on playing for Liverpool. Remy is pure gold. He has great pace and that is something Liverpool need in attack".

Well, according to Sly Sports Italy Journalist journalist Gianluca DiMarzio, Remy - who has an £8m buyout clause in his contract - will sign a 5-year deal with the Reds worth an alleged £80k a week.

LFC legend Mark Lawrenson is a big fan of Remy, and he's twice urged Brendan Rodgers to sign him. Lawro's latest public plea came in May, when he told the Liverpool Echo:

"Personally, I would take him [Remy] all day long. He would provide a perfect option because he is such a good player"

Remy definitely wanted a move to a bigger club this summer, and he confirmed this in March, when he told the Newcastle Chronicle:

"I could maybe play in a bigger club, a top European club. I will be part of a very large club. I have a huge room for improvement.”

Remy's premier league record so far:

* 20 goals/3 assists in 41 apps.
* Goal/assist every 1.7 games.

If Liverpool have met Remy's buyout clause of £8m, then this deal is a no-brainer. With four competitions on the agenda next season, and Daniel Sturridge's regular bouts of injury, Liverpool will need another good striker, and the France striker fits the bill.

Additionally, Remy is a clear upgrade on Fabio Borini (who is seemingly heading to Sunderland) which means overall squad strength will be enhanced.

  2. Absolute steal! He will be the best pound for pound signing in the PL this summer. Also means we still have plenty of cash left over for full backs and maybe an Isco or a Reus.

    ReplyDelete
  3. good deal, but not a better Suarez replacement

    ReplyDelete
  4. this is the perfect deal. Remy will score 20 goals next season, and he will also help us beat our top 4 rivals. perfect Suarez replacement, PL proven, CL and International Experience. Remy LW, Markovic RW and Sterling in AM behind Sturridge will continue our high pressing and maybe Emre Can and Lallana behind them or Emre Can and Henderson.

we should end the window by signing

    Dejan Lovren - £20M
Paul Pogba £45M - Steven Gerrard direct replacement.
David Santon or Ben Davies - £10M

    thats the £75M from Suarez.

doubtful we would get Pogba but we could test Juve with a £45M bid for a truly world class player. a possible player like Yaya Toure who can lewad us to PL domination for years to come

    wage prob some news say???

  6. Basically swapping Borini for Remy and making £6m. If carlsberg made deals.

    ReplyDelete
  7. B Rodgers was promised 60-70M for making the champions league this season.

So far he has spent 60M

That is without the sale of our best player, who is currently in the top 3 players in world bracket. (75M)

So B Rodgers has 75M still to spend and whatever money else he can bring into club, he should be able to use. So the 14M Sale on F Borini(23) should now bump his available Transfer fee to 89M.

Add the sales of P Reina, M Kelly, G Johnson, S Coates, K Toure, L Leiva and O Assaidi and B Rodgers should easily have 110-120M to spend.

But so far his signings have been upgrades on players:

    Moses LW Markovic Upgrade
    Alberto AM Lallana Upgrade
    Aspas FD Lambert Upgrade

And the next upgrade will be:

    Borini FD Remy Upgrade

  8. Can't argue with the business Liverpool have done this last week. Assaidi sold for a profit of 5.5 million, Borini at 4 million and Remy in for 8. I think that's what you call a Brucie bonus. He's fast and direct, and a proven PL goal scorer. Still feel we need to be in the market for another forward though.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That is my problem with Remy. He is a very good player but is money minded. There are also concerns about his attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would get Pogba just to make Man Utd look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Remy, Sturridge, Sterling, Lallana, Lazar, Coutinho. Liverpool will
have a lot of tasty, pacey options next season in attack, and we haven't even
spent that Suarez money yet! If Sturridge picked up an injury before the season started, feel a lot better with Remy to come in that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Mate, that is exactly what we need. We already have the first team as shown by last season but we did not have the squad and by purchasing upgrades, we are building that squad to compete on all fronts.

I love it if we make this signing, it's a common sense one at 8 mill

    ReplyDelete
  14. Aren't they all these days? He's 27 and looking for a big move. Anyway Rodgers has a pretty good record with getting the best out of his players. At 8 million it's a steal.

    ReplyDelete
  15. On the face of it, it is a very good deal for a player more proven and cheaper than Origi. I hope BR is able to control his attitude. But, we just have three forwards. We need one more. My choice would be Lacazette as he is yound and content to it on the bench as cover for Lambert, Remy and DS.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Its worth the punt and much better than forking out 10 mil on Origi. I trust Rodgers and as you say, he will get the best out of hi.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Exactly. From the moment Suarez left Holland he was using Liverpool to get to Barcelona. All players are out for themselves, unless they really love the club.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good buy
please get Isco Reus Mareno Lovren that's it

    ReplyDelete
  19. We will definitely not be getting both Isco and Reus.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Pogba a dream signing, I just can't see us spending that money on one player

    ReplyDelete
  21. Isco is Gerrard long term replacement real want Jamie so they want to sell to raise funds morata going Juve

    ReplyDelete
  22. I lolled, Isco and Reus, sure :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am not sure about this deal. I find it difficult to believe that Remy will be battling for the cause in away matches on January evenings, especially at the less illustrious venues. We need battlers who do not disappear when things get a bit tricky. Luis Suarez was a combination of talent and insatiable determination and desire.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 75 million to be spent on new players? Shouldn't we use this money to subsidize ticket prices. I, for one can't afford the increases. Lets make the club sustainable for the future, not just for next year's SKY cheque.
We should follow the German policy on ticket pricing. Speculating how the 75 million is to be spent on players and wages makes us part of the greed culture.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah upgrades are good, but the 60m B Rodgers has spent he was promised for making Champions league. Those players would have been brought if we still had L Suarez(27), so i am hoping that B Rodgers uses the 75M on the 4 class quality attacking players i mentioned.

And then with shipping out the likes of B Jones GK P Reina GK S Coates CB K Toure CB G Johnson RB M Kelly RB CM C Coady RW O Assaidi

With the sales of those 9 players above:

B Rodgers should replace the with Suitable upgrades:

    GK B Jones M Vorm(30) Of Swansea
    GK P Reina

    RB: G Johnson S Aurier(21) Of Toulouse
    RB: M Kelly

    CB: S Coates D Lovren(24) Of Southampton
    CB: K Toure

    CM: C Coady

    DM: L Leiva E Banega(25) Of Valencia
    RW: O Assaidi

    ReplyDelete
  26. Remy is a great signing if true. Very similar to Sturridge with them both being natural goal scorers.... Also, who ever is doing our sales is finally doing a good job. Get the feeling it's not Ayre.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jamie, what kinda of player is isco? Get the feeling this could be a possibility?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Feel for you but that won't happen.look at the way the members allocation was handled.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm not surprised Borini is going but i am surprised he's going before we have got some replacements in. We have let 3 players go who all can play that position leaving us with only Lambert and Sturridge who can play up top. Borini can play wide but i'd rather see Ibe given more of a chance out wide than see Borini out there.
Every transfer window since FSG took over we let players go and bring in roughly the same amount or slightly less. I can't argue with this so far because it's worked but since the begining of this transfer window all i have heard is that we need a bigger and better squad to cope with being in the champions league. Now correct me if i'm wrong but if this Borini deal goes through then that will make 4 players in and 4 players out.................. How does this make our squad stronger? Before anyone says were getting rid of dead wood, i would just like to point out that 2 of the players that have gone were signed last summer, 1 was one of Rodgers 1st signings and the other was our star man.................. Hardly dead wood when you add up the cost of all 4 of them.
We have been told that now we are in the champions league we will be able to attract big names and they'll want to come................ I really don't see this and would say all players we have signed so far might have come last summer had we tried.
Just to top things off it looks like again we have lost out to Spurs for one of our targets. A left back who's stats out perform all our other left back targets and even out performs Luke Shaws stats too.......... All for 8 to 12m.
The Remy transfer makes sense if it goes through but he alone is not the answer. Davies and Remy for £20m would of been ideal and only meant we took £6m out the Suarez money to cover 2 positions. I'd rather see both these coming in than see around £20m being spent on some Spanish left back who doesn't fill me with confidence.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Finally not being robbed, really happy with this one the squads taking shape it seems, personally i think rodgers should spend the suarez money on defence i feel confident in our attack :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really want this to happen. With Sturridge and Lambert we will have 3 proven premier league strikers. I'm really surprised Arsenal don't want him. Given the TV money this year £8m is a bargain, if it wasn't got the clause he would cost £20m plus.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Suit us better than bony, next get lukaku and defender, and we good to go! YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  33. Agree with all your points.

It would seem BR did not "guarantee" first team football, hence Davies is following the Bale path to Spurs.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ........................Mignolet.........................
    ...............Agger...............Lovren.............
    ..Enrique..................................Moreno...
    ............................Can..............................
    ......Lallana..........Isco/Reus........Markovic.
    ..................Sturridge.................................
    ....................................Remy.....................

    Subs:

    Henderson
    Allen
    Skrtel

    ReplyDelete
  35. Agree with Lukaku.

However need a strong pacy LB and CB minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wait wait wait I aint believing this B***SH***T news....

I've read news like this with Moreno 'that a deal has been agreed between the 2 clubs' blah blah blah just to prompt Liverpool into saying that a deal is "FAR FROM DONE"

To all my fellow fans here don't ever get gullible with BS crap rumors that Remy has agreed to join us this is complete utter FALSE silly people just make up stories without further evidence or whatsoever

    ReplyDelete
  37. We don't know if they are upgrades until they've played games for us mate.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Are you really suggesting to play Enrique at RB, a player with no right foot?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Going forward should be OK.. it's the defense which is the worry.

Also, it's a question of getting off to a great start (like we did last season). Team's will now get used to us, and play conservative in the first 30 mins of games. Our performance in the last 10 games dropped off for a variety of reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  40. £14 million for Borini! Great piece of business. Remy coming in is a good deal too.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey Jamie i think u mean sky sports Italy and not sly sports!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Or maybe he simply knows his value. He is a quality striker and as such wants to be paid accordingly by a top European club. I'd rather have a proven player who is supremely confident in his own ability than a talented one who doesn't believe in himself and never realises his potential.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm sure Arsenal would want him but he would play less games there with Giroud, Cambell and Sanchez

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am excited about this. Remy will fit well. It will also allow us to focus on a LB and CB.

    ReplyDelete
  45. indykaila says liverpool in talks with DiMaria

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good line up, but you do realise that it only has 4 last season players, two of which did not feature as much? It is a possibility though, but I'm a bit concerned about it..

    ReplyDelete
  47. Please let that be true...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cant believe we now sign players from qpr and southampton, is this the squad we going to cl? Where is suarez replacement? Gerrards? The comic defence? Mignolet? I never been that pessimistic than this season we are about to start, think it will be a total nightmare, worst ever.

    ReplyDelete
  49. PSG can't get Di Maria because of FFP. Italian teams can't afford him, German can't afford him/don9t need him, he is not going to Barca, he is not stayin in Madrid, Arsenal bought Sanchez, City has FFP and a full team, manu are in arguably worse position than us. That leaves Chelski that probably do not need him and us as only serious teams he can go to.
I think the star is coming..

    ReplyDelete
  50. Haha, come on. We're not Madrid, we just go out and buy whichever superstar in the world that we want.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This is indeed a no brainer. I think we'll play with one up front next season and this gives us 3 solid centre forwards. Remy is a 20 million pound player, to get him for 8 is a steal. This along with a solid profit on Borini and Assaidi looks like some pretty solid transfer business to me.
With regards to our LB position I still think we'll sign Moreno. I think we bid 8 mil for Davies (which was always gonna be rejected) just to show Sevilla we were serious about moving on to other targets. If we really wanted Davies I think we'd have signed him

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hold your horse mate

    ReplyDelete
  53. This would be a dream signing

    ReplyDelete
  54. Indeed. Better than Sanchez, me thinks..

    ReplyDelete
  55. Certainly up there

    ReplyDelete
  56. And in a better team, he will attribute more..

    ReplyDelete
  57. They are owned by Rupert Murdoch...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hate to sound cold here but i have to be blunt. We are not going to replace Suarez he was up there with the best players in the world at the minute.
If we can replace his goals, assists, skill and moments of pure genius in 3 or 4 signings then we might become a better team that doesn't over rely on any 1 single person. With the money we got for Suarez it gives us the platform to strengthen all over the pitch and for me that's the key in replacing Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  59. We signed Mascherano from West Ham, Alonso from Real Sociodad (not exactly one of the big hitters), In fact there are fewer players signed from big clubs (maybe historically big but not when we bought the player) than there are from big clubs. This is business as usual. Not sure where this mentality arose from.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Better team? Better than Madrid? I second the hold your horses statement.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think he means Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Borini out, Remy in, and we've made a small profit. It's a very good pair of deals because although Borini could have stayed and pushed for a place in the side it seems Sunderland will get more out of him. Remy ends up being less of a risk for us. So our strike force is now Lambert, Sturridge and Remy. I assume there will be one more in to replace Suarez so that's a great squad of strikers. They'll have to fight for places but that's perfect because they'll push each other in training and there will be enough games to go around. Remy and Lambert are a great option for cup games or league games where we need or prefer to rest the first choice goal scorers.

Now I'm just dying to see who else we get in. Sanchez really would have been perfect, its such a shame we couldn't pull that one off. He's the ideal link-up man for the other three strikers, would set them up for goals and also be there to score plenty himself. I think that's the kind of player we'll go for, not Lukaku or Bony. With the money we've got left to spend it's really quite fascinating to imagine who we're going to get.

    ReplyDelete
  63. He's the one, I really think he'd be just out of this world for us. The perfect player to sit just behind any of our three strikers, switching up with Sterling or Lallana, scoring plenty himself. I mean we've got the money, right? Even if he cost 60 million, wouldn't we just pay it? If Di Maria wanted to come to Liverpool we the club should be falling over themselves to sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Please God, I want every off-season whinger to eat their words and fall at the feet of Rodgers if he pulls this off.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Suarez cannot be replaced by anybody so that is never going to happen and neither can Gerrard. What we are doing is signing players suited for our system and are tactically flexible. I would argue that Suarez made us imbalanced as we had to accomodate so many attacking players that the defence suffered. I think our defence will be much better this season. As for qpr and southampton, that is not true at all. Ronaldo was signed from Sporting Lisbon, Suarez started in FC Gronigen, Tevez and Mascherano played for West Ham. Bale, Walcott, Ox and numerous others came from Southampton and now you regard them as good players. Have some faith and trust in the manager that took us from obscurity to the top.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Why? Because, for once, Rodgers will actually do his job and sign a top class player instead wasting millions on dross?

    Sent from Samsung Mobile

    ReplyDelete
  67. My source was indykaila on twitter. He's supposedly got superb contacts in Liverpool and Utd, some in Arsenal. Had Liverpool Vidal link 3 days before it became mainstream. How? Through accessed text messages between LFC officials . He also stated that Sanchez preferred Arsenal over Liverpool a while before it became widely reported. Also got the Filipe Luis, Shaw and Herrera deals reported early on.

    ReplyDelete
  68. 60 Big ones? Really? I think you're falling over yourself a little.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Agree, I don't see the point in going for yet another striker. It's Suarez' great link up play which we also need to compensate.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Then it didn't make much sense as he said Arsenal would not be in for him anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think he's just pointing out the 'l' typo in 'sky'. I also can't help but feel smug about the fact that the world's most powerful media figure is Aussie @Pete

    ReplyDelete
  72. To me he's comparing what Di Maria will attribute to us than what Sanchez will attribute to Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I understood what he meant, it was clearly a poor attempt at humour on my part

    ReplyDelete
  74. Are you for real? I've never felt so optimistic. Our squad already looks much improved on last season with the promise of more to come. The glass is half full at the moment man

    ReplyDelete
  75. Madrid reportedly agreed deal with James for 5 years at 120 grand a week. Di Maria is now out for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Don't worry I've had my moments...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Because they're whinging about next season before the window is even half over, let alone waiting until there is any actual football played. I'm bemused at the portion of fans who are already predicting the club's fall from grace. It's already been a pretty good window, I really can't agree with the negative attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ahh righto. Well I suppose that does make sense. *shuffles off sheepish*

    ReplyDelete
  79. Just saying ... we could afford it, couldn't we? Given the quality of player we're trying to replace if we found a target we really wanted and thought he could do the job and make us better, wouldn't we just have to do it whatever it cost?

    ReplyDelete
  80. I hate to do this but we can't invest in too many players to replace Suarez, look at Spurs they tried to do that with Bale. We need a marquee signing I would love Reus but that won't happen. Spurs bought Lamela to replace Bale and he didn't perform we need a proven player that is willing to give his all for the club like Suarez did every game

    ReplyDelete
  81. Tryphon Pastory Bilauri7:27 pm, July 19, 2014

I have this hate when you guys mention Spurs and Bale when making point on LS transfer!!. For me these are two different cases, as Spurs had new manager in AVB while at LFC we have BR who has been here more than two seasons!! BR knows what he wants and in what department but AVB didnt. OUr manager has already said that we wont spend on the sake of it, so he knows what he is doing. Stop making that comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Or Isco...

    ReplyDelete
  83. agree entirely with what you say.think the club will bring in a few more players before the window shuts.personally i would like to see william carvallho, ben davies, lovren and reus. But as fans we should have trust in rodgers that he will get it right.Think he has earned it with last seasons performance. But if we have the money to pull off the signings i mentioned above i think we will seriously challenge for trophies on all fronts and be back where we belong on TOP!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I hate everyone. In other news Remy is an INCREDIBLE signing and we should be happy, forget Spurs: they've been scouting our scouts since Vertongen (and probably before that too) but now they're skint and present no threat in the market. Happy faces people.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Finally, finally, finally signings that every fan (most of us at least ) can see makes sense! We've been devoid of pace & power for so long & now looking at our squad's improvement. Amazing! We need to back this team more than ever!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Selling Borini for £14m and bringing Rémy in for £8m?

I guess this shows we were all right to always stand by Ian Ayre.

    Well done us!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Di Maria is a superb assist provider, but he only has 35 career goals which is something Coutinho and Hendo will surpass. 60 million is a lot of cash for one player and as with all transfers there are no guarantees.

Besides, we just purchased Markovic who operates out wide. I guess I just don't have as much faith as you do in Di Maria.

    ReplyDelete
  88. may be we should forget suarez already, he is gone, we should search for player that bleed the RED blood, then we can call him the legend

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah, I might be falling over myself a little. I'll let you get away with that one. I don't necessarily think Di Maria would save us, it's the principal I'm speaking about really - if Liverpool identified a top class international player who could fill 75% of the hole left by Suarez then there would be very few excuses for not coughing up the cash. FFP will be a consideration but I think the accountants have that one under control. Given where we are in terms of wanting to maintain what was such a great finish to last season it makes less sense to go conservative and not pull the trigger on a big deal. If Di Maria was the one Rodgers really wanted and he ended up being grossly overpriced you'd really have to ask if it mattered all that much how much he cost.

In terms of the actual player ... maybe assists are the key. We will have three capable strikers and towards the end of last season Suarez wasn't scoring as much. He had 23 goals in 19 games up until just before we went on that 11 game run. During that 11 game run he scored 7 but also had 5 assists. It's still an impressive bag of goals but we weren't relying on him to score so much, we needed him to create and he adapted perfectly to that role. That's what Di Maria would bring so maybe he's the answer. He'd certainly have a maturity that Markovic will still be learning.

    ReplyDelete
  90. we only need 1 more attacking player.(imo) Reus would be a great2 AM for BR system..and i would love to see D.Lovren in our squad..for LB,if BR think that he can't accept the price tag that sevilla put for Moreno,so why don't he go for Rodriquez (swiss LB)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Dont see Isco coming because we now have Lallana unless of course they sell Coutinho.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Please just sign Marco Reus or Pogba

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well if you want an impartial view on Liverpools chances look what odds the bookies are offering it really doesn't promote confidence.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Preferred him over Bony any day, very good move by LFC I wanted him to be part of the ranks for a while now. Borini good deal for us he found his level at Sunderland.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yes very true 60 mil is a joke fantasy football at its highest.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Very good points. BR stated there will not be a direct replacement for Suarez. Did Manu buy a replacement for Ronaldo? But still won the Pl afterwards. Liverpool with the addition of Remy will have two quick technically sound strikers with hopefully more signings to come.

    ReplyDelete
  97. It was rumoured that Di Maria was available to make room for James Rodriguez. The fee would be around 20-30 million IMO.

I think the policy at Liverpool is clear as day and we will rarely see any mega deals. IMO, Di Maria, Reus, et al are all out of the picture for us. While I totally agree with the principle you speak of, I just can't see it happening. Even a 40 million deal for a player wouldn't be sanctioned, even if we know it's feasible with all the Suarez cash.

Did anyone see the Can deal coming? Markovic? Not really, until it was time to sign on the dotted line. These deals represent long term value for money and an opportunity for a player to grow into the team.

I can always be wrong but this is my realistic assessment of the set up at Liverpool. I can't see a top class midfielder coming as we signed Can already. Can't see another high priced deal for a wide player as we signed Markovic. Else, what was the point of signing them?

With all that said, this has got to be one of the most exciting transfer windows ever, and I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.
