A few months ago, reports in France claimed that Liverpool scouts had monitored France international Alexandre Lacazette 'for most of the season', and were 'impressed' with his performances for Lyon. A summer transfer was mooted, and it seems like Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is now following up on that initial interest.
According to new reports this week:
* Rodgers's interest in Wilfried Bony has 'cooled', and he's now set to move for Lacazette.
* The 23-year will cost £16m.
* Lacazette has rejected a new contract offer from Lyon.
Some info about Lacazette:
* 22 years old.
* Can play on the wings, or up-front.
* Spent his entire career with Lyon.
* Three trophies with his club so far.
* 58 apps for various France youth teams.
* 2 apps for the senior national team.
* 2010: Winning for for France in the Under-19 European Championship final.
* STATS: 38 goals/28 assists in 135 apps for Lyon.
* Goal/assist every 2.2 games.
* 2009-2014: Goal/assist every 119 minutes (League only)
Newcastle United are also linked with Lacazette, but in June, his Agent, David Venditelli, made it clear that European football is a priority. He told reporters:
"If Alexandre were to leave, he will leave for a team which plays in the Champions League, or at least one which is very close to it.”
Lyon coach Remi Garde does not want to lose Lacazette, and in a recent interview, he praised the striker's progress last season:
"He [Lacazette] has made great strides this season, and shown that he is the best French striker. His scoring record is not far from Zlatan Ibrahimović, which shows the progress he has made"
From having watched him play in Ligue 1, Lacazette is faster and more mobile than Bony, and is probably more suited to Liverpool's style of play. He's more of a link-man that a typical lone striker, and it wouldn't surprise me if Rodgers' plan is to use him in the same way he used Fabio Borini, i.e. out wide.
Of the two, I'd still rather have Bony, for the simple reason that he is Premier League-proven, and (in theory) won't need any settling-in time.

Can't wait to see him play wide for the last 10 minutes of some games.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing about Bony is that is a genuinely different option.
ReplyDeleteOne thing worth considering: if we could replay that Chelsea from last season, who'd you rather bring off the bench? Bony or Lacazette?
I don't like the look of him, seems a bit small as well, doubt he would become a top Prem striker, just my opinion!
ReplyDeleteAfrican Cup of Nations is annoying. We've had so few good African players compared to the likes of Chelsea that I forget about it.
ReplyDeleteWaste of space
ReplyDeleteExcept its not annoying for those african nations that take part, its their equivalent of our european championships and gives the teams a chance to play competitive tournament football aside from the few who qualify for world cups. With you on the players though, we haven't yet had a big African star (unless you count bruce grobbelaar) hopefully we will find a real gem from that continent in future.
ReplyDeleteThe thoughts of signing either player doesn't inspire. I'd sooner try to sign the likes of Tevez as a stop gap if we could or even someone like Morata. That said I'd prefer we sign a star in the making like Torres and Suarez were when we snapped them up.
ReplyDeleteI think the star in the making signing has been made and Rodgers is hoping that Markovic fulfills his potential.
ReplyDeleteoh !BR ....assaidi,borini,sahko,alberto, aspas, sahin, cissoko, moses, (1/2 allen)....he has had more of his transfers as failures. and surprisingly sahin turned out on the bundesliga team of the season just after he proved a flop under BR...see what mohrinhio did to BR last season..look at the ages of the players that propelled their teams behind the scenes in the world cup ,(khedira, mascherano, robben, lahm, muller, vanpersie etc.) a good blend of youth and experience....all you hear is top talent ,top talent ...he is interested in buying players with trickery and pace but wee need steel ..the vidals and sanchezs...see the purchases other top 4 teams are making ...EXPERIENCE...that's the mistake wenger made and was hovering around third and 4 for soo many years using sanchez as make weight rather than chase him like we really need him.the only problem we had during DAlglish's time was GOALS...the agger -skrtle partnership is up in the air! can we win anything with the squad we have? BR just shot himself in the face!
ReplyDeleteyou should never underestimate the borini/moses/lacazette-effect
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The few times I saw him last season his ability reminded me of a young Ronaldo. I never really thought we would get him due to potential competition for his signature.
ReplyDeleteIts important whoever we do buy weighs in with some goals up front to lessen the void left by Suarez. Whether Bony or Lacazette are good enough is up for debate. Bony would be better than not signing anybody though
Oh yeah, obviously. I wouldn't begrudge those nations their tournament but it is just annoying from an LFC perspective. Same way that I'm not happy we've got so many players who will get messed about by the England national team and all of the accompanying problems.
ReplyDeleteBony , you're right . my ideal transfer spree now would be Bony, Reus (or Firmino) ,Lovren (or Hummels if the money is available ) , Ricardo Rodriguez ( or Alex Sandro) and Ospina (or Ochoa ) as back up GK
ReplyDeleteAgree about Bony/Lacazette,,not sure about either as well. Think we do need an experienced big name player just to add into the mix...we have stevie g in the middle to guide the youngsters/new signings around him...and think we need another upfront.
ReplyDeleteAssaidi isn't a failure. He's made us a tidy profit. Good deal for the club.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that what Lambert is for?
ReplyDeleteGoalkeeping in France is shocking!! That's all I picked up from that video, so I'd prefer Bony.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more on the experience. BR has often talked about buying players for the first team. I'm not sure we could definitively say that what we have bought so far improves the first 11. Lallana does, arguably Markovic and an could too but they are still somewhat unknown and may need time. I'm happy with our transfer business but I'd definitely like to see a few more undoubted quality first teamers brought in. We've lost 31 goals and defence has yet to be improved. At this point in the summer we are a bit off a title challenging team but I am confident that will change by transfer deadline day.
ReplyDeleteAre Liverpool even going to strengthen their defense. Really think we need a CB and a LB. I seriously can't understand why Liverpool are wanting to buy Davis from Swansea. Why not go for one of the best LB in the world, Ricardo Rodriguez. Anyone know how much he would cost, iv heard £15 million? And I think Bony would be a prefect backup striker especially for when Sturridge gets injured :P.
ReplyDeleteAgree about all the England stuff...too much nonsense surrounds that set up and players are not as relaxed in that environment. Hopefully Stevie G will retire and concentrate on rest of his playing/possible coaching career with us. Lets start forming a new boot room.
ReplyDeleteAgree another CB if he lets one of Skrtel/Agger go however he was speaking in glowing terms of Agger today. Maybe he thinks he can sort it, think Sakho will get better not sure how llori did today missed the game but he did well on loan last season. LB I agree we need.
ReplyDeleteif you buy a canoe (assaidi) and u park in your garage and swimm 100metrs every day to work. is your purchase of the canoe not a failure..firstly we need to make our team better then sell in the future and .....if we looking at profit den let's invest the the suarez money with BEIGE CAPITAL we will make 30% interest annually SMH.
ReplyDeleteIf I bought a canoe and didn't use it and then someone offered me double what I paid, I'd consider that a good deal.
ReplyDeleteIt like people buying run down houses, fixing them and selling for more money. Savy business idea, it's like real estate. Chelsea did it with De Bryune. If
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. Lambert is more of an aerial presence than Sturridge or Borini but he isn't as dominant as Bony. You wouldn't through Lambert on to really rough the opponent up. He's more like a British version of Chamakh. He has surprisingly nice link-up and drops off the line well.
ReplyDeleteIlori look really comfortable on the ball, wasn't troubled at all, passed it about very calm. Lasted about 20 odd minutes which was a shame, wanted to see how he would cope when Bronby, had the wind in their sails. Soon as he went off they score a minute later.
ReplyDeleteHmm I'm not sure about this guy. At least Bony has delivered in the league already although I'm not really sure where he fits in the team
ReplyDeleteLogic says he'll have a good chance of being pretty good, as Newcastle tend to buy French players that do well in the Premier lge. The only one that hasn't worked out yet is the guy with the name that sounds like two bullets from a smith western gun (pew pew).
ReplyDeleteSell Borini and bring this guy in, after watching Borini against Shamrock and Today (and last season for us). He's seems to struggle in a red shirt, Coutiniho played him in twice with good passes and he made a royal f*ck up off it today. He should have use his body to shield the space and let the ball run across him when a defend comes to engage the ball. Suarez does this better than anyone I've ever seen, Suarez more often than not leaves the defend on the floor with a good barge (core strength at it's finest). Sterling seems to have started doing this quite well, maybe he's learnt it off Suarez.
I want Borini,to do well, he's passionate and seems like a nice guy . But he won't ever get 15 goal in this league ever and he can't supplement his goals with pens in our team either.
He was branded as the new Inzaghi when he came, which I thought okay so he'll lazy about but know were the ball will drop and will have 18 tap ins a season. Then I see he puts a proper shift in but never seems to be clinical or wiley enough to get in those Inzaghi/Van Nistleroy positions. If Sunderland come knock with decent money (9M ish) take it and buy Lacazette.
The Robbie Fowler technique.
ReplyDeleteCb lets get caulker only 8mil
ReplyDeleteI picked up a accent, somehow
ReplyDeleteYeah Ilori only lasted around 20 minutes but I really hope BR doesn't send him on loan again. Looks like a great player: tall, and very fast. I think he would do us good for the Cup games.
ReplyDeleteHe's linked to Newcastle too, didn't mention that up there.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if BR is thinking about Hasani now?????
ReplyDeleteIf he fills out a little (too thin), has everything to be the new Ricardo Cavalho (pace, composure, intelligents on the ball and good passer).
ReplyDeletePretty much. He might be the same size, but Lambert is much more mobile and generally more "LFC-esque" than Bony is. He likes to check back, run the channels, etc. much like Sturridge or Suarez. He's just bigger. Bony would be a genuine plan b, second option, whatever you call it. Even in matches that we don't necessarily need to bring on a guy like him, he still knows where the net is regardless.
ReplyDeleteSaves time. If I swim to work, I don't have to shower.
ReplyDeletePlease let this one be true. This guy is going to be a real star and for that money its not much of a gamble. There is nothing wrong with Bony either but we should have bought him years ago and he is not as versatile as lacazette. He is like a cross between Suarez and Thierry Henry without all the diving
ReplyDeleteI agree- plus we're not set up to play to Bony's strengths and the extra £5m or so should go towards the £20m required to get Rodrigues for LB
ReplyDelete£45m for Reus would complete our attacking requirements leaving £20m for Lovren
15 +20+45 +20 is our budget gone inc the Suarez money but we would be strong right through the side, and should net about £20m from Lucas, Assaidi Coates and Reina
3 of those were loans. Sakho isn't a failure. Assaidi only cost £2.5m and will at least double that when he's sold to Stoke and Aspas is already offloaded along with Alberto.
ReplyDeleteWe scored 47 goals during KK's season, and only won 9 games all season.
And spunked £65m on Carroll, Downing and Adam...
Fantastic addition, if we need to even bother trying to pull this off!
ReplyDeleteOne of the variables when negotiating would surely be to inquire about your role and how much playing time you are going to receive.
Along with Lallana, Markovic,Sterling ( massive year ahead if handled correctly), Henderson as well! he has an appetite to learn, then adapt. i expect him to have the same kind of year as Sterling.
Coutinho, I assume he would be looking for major minutes this season.
Can,('Chan') has expressed his pretty stern stance on his favored position, i say favored because i am sure once again through discussions he was promised to be favored for central midfield.
Gerrard will want to wind up his career with a bang and not a wimper so he will expect big minutes, even though Rodgers states something to the contrary, if it where your last season you would not want to fade out by being stuck on the subs bench.
Suso is looking to impress also, along with Ibe we are looking pretty stacked in the creative arena. someone with a bit of a bite and so much flair, Lucas is done, Allen will forever be Allen, so where does our bite come from???
I would rather buy Origi and Bakkali and groom them over the next few years, slightly lower expectations i would assume?
I guess what i am saying is why would we even need another striker when we obviously have to play with a 5 man midfield!
Lambert will run over a tank for Liverpool, he will die for the club for the short amount of time we will have him, Sturridge is obviously first choice so unless we plan on playing 14 players strikers should not be our emphasis!
A combative midfielder, A left back to give first choice Enrique a run, and a central defender to replace Toure.
Just because we have money does not mean we need to spend it!
We are well equipped to deal with all competitions this year if we play a small nucleus of our rather large squad on a consistent basis, too much chopping and changing will not be good for the overall growth of the team.
That's my opinion anyway...
I think, BR is focusing too much on attack. If he still has enough fund for a pair of CB (at least 1 to start), a LB to start & preferably a DM, which in total around another 35-40mn; I don't mind going for Lecazzette. But, just like 100 goals in a season, keeping tight is also important, hardy a team can win anything letting 50 goals only in league.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, between the two, it's not even a contest - Leccazzette wins hands down. He is younger (at least by 5 years, Bony is "Officially " 25 though), faster, more mobile, skillful & multidimensional. I think, Deschamps opted for Giroud for his size, which adds another dimension to the fast moving skillful French forward line - they already had Benzema, Remy, Griezzman, Ribery & Valbuena, therefore Deschamps opted for Giourod; otherwise L'zzatte would have definitely gone to Brazil.
If we have enough money for defensive third, I would loved to have Alexender; but I don't a Mourinho case repeated - over spend to buy (& steal) midfielders/wingers & then whine that he has no goal scoring forward (For BR, it's solid defender).
den stop working and deal in buying and selling of canoes..that'll be more profitable...i guess u never taut of that.
ReplyDeleteam sure you will just hand your wife over to your pal after you got married to her, cos u didnt intend to be with her in the first place ...lol
ReplyDeleteBen Davies stats are similar and in alot of areas superior to Luke Shaw, yet everybody would have been happy if we had gone for Shaw. Media hype machine at its best. Ben Davies would be a great signing in my opinion and would be a good young player to compete for the place with Enrique and then same battling can found better Flanagan and Johnson on the right. Experience and potential in both positions which is ideal.
ReplyDeleteSo we need steel then you suggest sanchez :S
ReplyDeleteWe have to focus on attack now because of Suarez .. if he stayed I don't think we would be looking at any more attacking options in my opinion .. I just hope we get a player in the Suarez mold ie similar to Sanchez to name 1 and not an orthodox or a traditional no 9 ie bony .. we have so many quick direct technical players now and I don't want the play held up or see us going long to suit a new signings preference .. again my opinion ..
ReplyDeleteShocking stats for a so called striker. This guy makes Aspas look prolific. Prefer to see Lambert start than another French misfit. If this guy is close to being Zlatan then Bruno Cheyrou really was Zidane incarnate!
ReplyDeleteNext thing you know Newcastle will be signing Barney McGrew
ReplyDeleteWe have spent 60 million already, that I fear is what will be recouped from the 75 million for Suarez, not an extra 75 mill on top of that
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Joey We already had £60m in the Transfer Fund before we sold Suarez to Barcelona so that made it £135m now. YNWA REDS.
ReplyDelete
