Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, and Reds legend Jamie Carragher insists that the German maestro is perfectly suited to the Premier League.
According to The Independent this week:
"Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to push ahead with moves for Marco Reus and Dejan Lovren"
Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato recently claimed that Liverpool are preparing a €55m bid for Reus, but the club (via Times journalist Tony Barrett), seemingly refuted that possibility soon after. Barrett tweeted:
"Liverpool baffled by reports linking them with Marco Reus and insist they've shown no interest in him despite suggestions to the contrary".
Carra certainly wants to see Reus at Anfield, and when asked about the deal recently, he enthused:
“I’d love LFC to sign Reus. [He's a ] great player, and would be one of the best players in the Premier League.”
In May, German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten named Reus as the player of the year, and when asked at the awards ceremony about his future, the 25-year old attacker told Reporters:
"We'll see. Every player only has one career and wants to get the best out of it. You have to decide what's best for you. At the end of your career, you want to be able to say that you've won many titles"
After his return from injury in February, 'amazing' Reus grabbed an incredible 19 goals/assists in 13 games for Dortmund, which is a Luis-Suarez level of creativity. Stats for the last three seasons:
* 127 apps
* 61 goals
* 29 assists
* Goal/Assist every 1.4 games
Fantastic stats, and like Carra, I'd love to see Reus at Liverpool. The speculation won't go away, and Liverpool don't usually refute transfer speculation in this manner, so maybe there is something going on behind the scenes?
Well, we can dream...

Is he a midfielder or striker?
ReplyDeletestriker
ReplyDeletemidfielder
ReplyDeletewell winger
ReplyDeleteNever going to happen. We will stick to buying average players, such as, Remy Lambert Markovic etc
ReplyDeleteAgree. But we hope to be proven wrong.
ReplyDeleteHe is signing for Barca i heard.
ReplyDeleteWe signed Lovren which is great. We need a player on the left wing. Candidates for that position are Gaitan, Shaqiri, maybe Di Maria. If we sign Reus, the Sturridge will move to the left flank and Reus will be our Striker. PS. We also need a left back
ReplyDeleteApparently Liverpool have submitted a bid for Shaqiri. Is this true?
ReplyDeleteI am going to dare to dream. This would be fantastic. If not him, I can settle for Vidal!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you hear that?
ReplyDeleteBecause with Neymar, Messi and Suarez there is no place for him. Reus can play as a winger a 10 or as a striker.
My dream signing, but probably will not happen.
We buy too many average players.
Reus is a winger why move sturridge who have an incredible goal/assist return as a striker to put 2 player out of position ?
ReplyDeleteNothing is concrete yet. Only the unreliable sources like the Daily Star and Metro have reported it from a Swiss newspaper.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched a match in which Markovic played ?
ReplyDeleteThat's right write them off before the season starts I hate the negativity of some so called liverpool fans
ReplyDeleteWe have just spent £8.5m on Remy, £10m on Origi and £20m on Lovren taking our spending to +- £98 million with still a LB to sign which will take our spending to +-110-£120 million.
ReplyDeleteAnother €50 (£43m) on Reus to take our our spending to almost £170 million? Yes, that will pretty much be a dream.
In between. Goalscoring attacking mid.
ReplyDeleteDISMISS!
ReplyDeleteFunny...we have so many who want him but nobody seems quite sure what position he plays. I guess under BR that's a good sign.
ReplyDeleteassaidi, borini, reina and maybe lucas and agger may leave though.. If the 60m rumour which we were supposed to have to spend at the start of the window is true and with the suarez money we would still have a lot left ..
ReplyDeletebut brendans comments about not spending for the sake of it makes me feel he wont spend big on 1 player because if he doesnt perform it will be blamed on him and could risk his job...
rather he will spend on lots of potential because its less risk and if they do well he will be heralded as magnificent manager for getting such performances out of the youth and he can use the excuse of suarezs departure as an excuse if we fail to meet our ambitions
just my opinion ....
He could play the position that Luis played if Sturridge as the CF, he's actually better suited at the wide right of the front three, than Suarez (as he has pace and a creative facet to his game).
ReplyDeleteWhen Suarez played wide right in big games/against the big teams he could he stopped scoring this season, as he lacked pace. So Rues is better suited to this spot, but Suarez is the better player at the minute.
anyone think sterling can play as a striker
ReplyDeletei think he is capable of playing there
i think that's his only position personally. doesn't look like a winger, he isnt technically gifted enough to play no.10 either. I've thought this from day one. Now that Jordan Ibe........ theres a winger.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I would play him there before going to Lambert honestly.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't sign Reus. Can is going to be an absolute legend. I remember watching Suarez's first game and posting straight away he's already our best player to the disgruntlement of the 'Gerrard hardcore'. But Can, could be a Zidane and Viera rolled into one. He is a phenomenal talent. It's all about what is between the ears now with him.
ReplyDeleteHe's an attacking midfield striker who comes in from either wing.
ReplyDeleteThat makes him an attackingmidfieldstrikerwing.
ReplyDeletei'd take Vidal, Gaitan/Saqiri, and Blind with the Suarez and sales money after Lovern and Remy and will sell Joe Allen to west ham and Borini to Sunderland.
ReplyDeleteVidal Henderson/Can
-------Lallana
Sterling--- Gaitan/Saqiri
-------Sturridge.
I thought Lambert was a great signing but he worried me slightly in the Roma match.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he's just getting up to speed but it's not been that long since the WC and he looked slow.
Liverpool take the unusual step of denying interest so that means he must have already signed for us......
ReplyDeleteMinus the money from the Suarez deal, which BR can spend.
ReplyDeleteLet's say with the signing of a LB our spending comes around £120m. And we pay the sum that is required to sign Reus, £43m, it's almost £165m minus £70m-75m. It will take our spending to almost £100m. Puts a lot of pressure on Rodgers to succeed...
I'm intrested, what makes you say that. I haven't seen a minute of can but hope he is a mascherano type player....
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's been quite hard to figure out....If he is half the player of Suarez he sounds quality... Have you watched a lot of the German league? If so, how good is Can and is he a defensive mid
ReplyDelete'Zidane and Vieira rolled into one'
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought Rodgers was the king of gross exaggeration/praise ;-D
Hope you're right, but with BR's track record, he's more likely to be Zenden and Diao rolled into one...
To everyone who is askin were Reus plays, well he plays LM "Left Mid", so that makes it Reus-Sturridge-Sterling upfront If he was to be signed "Inshallah we do"
ReplyDeleteTo be fair he's shown in about 90 mins on the pitch with us that he has 6 Zendens and 9 Diaos in each foot.
ReplyDeleteEven if Emre Can fails to live up to his price tag, I'm sure we could easily get our money back if we sell him to Hugo Boss (as long as he doesn't go bald).
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have that elegance on the ball to be Zidane (from the little cameo and youtube). He seem to be powerful enough to dominate games, and we been screaming for this since BR walked through the door.
If he is seen as more of a Micheal Ballack, I could live with that. At Munich, Ballack was the 'dog's boll*cks'. Only when he came to Chelsea (like Essien) weren't as effective, as they were at previous club.
Hey you, leave a smiley face..... you'll start a war if you don't
ReplyDeleteIf we spend £165m and LFC are going through a rough patch or BR fails. JK's typewriter ink will run dry, can already see the heading for all the article. There might be a couple of Luis Alberto ones inbetween.
ReplyDeleteSadly, Alberto is gone, so I'll need to fill the void with someone else...
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the National Enquirer.
ReplyDeleteMmmm....one to think about.
ReplyDeleteLambert getting up to speed isn't Veyron speed, more like Dacia Duster rate of knots, but effective in places like Turf Moor,Selhurst,Brttannia etc.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll find someone, you always seem to find someone.
ReplyDeleteTo new beginnings.
I will always remember Luis being yanked off at half time by BR.
Thanks mate for your optimism. I would love to take even if he ends up as half the player Zizu was. I haven't seen Can, but one unique quality that Zizu had was his silky touches & composer on the ball - as a French fan, I never felt that Zizu 'll ever loose the ball at midfield. Is Can that good in ball possession? He has the physique to match both of them though, but not sure if he has the legs of Patrick, who probably could play back to back 2 matches.
ReplyDeleteThat would be an insult to my intelligence :-)
ReplyDeleteFair point. If he knocks in a few vital goals at the right time he can be a trabant for all i'll care
ReplyDeleteYou're making him sound like a hideously deformed Elephant Man.
ReplyDeleteall us fans would love to see him at liverpool imagine reus and vidal attackin defences unstoppable but i cant see rodgers spending that kinda money on players even though its common sense they would be good for the team
ReplyDeleteRues could be a dream signing. At 25 he is almost at his peak & I have seen German players lasting longer than most others. Rues 'll be among the best attacking players for most part of next 10 years. For E55m (which I guess is around 43m PS) & anything less than 200K/week PS for next 5 years is probably as good a deal as anyone can get. German players are least spectacular but most efficient & clinical; I am sure Rues 'll be as good as Hazard or even Suarez, if not better in EPL, playing for this exciting LFC side.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I had a bad experience in LiverpoolKop, so 'll not reiterate names, but I believe we spent 25mn too early. We are in CL this year, having a great team in building; we should have targeted 2/3 top quality players for starting XI & then go for squad players. If Rues join us, I see someone struggling to make even the bench & we could have spent that 25mn for Rues's team mate Hummels or Isco.
FORGET IT -Just look how much we have spent already - he is fantastic BUT REAL WORLD PLEASE CARRA
ReplyDeleteHe is an inside forward -
ReplyDeleteWe need defensive players and a keeper (Cech would be very good )
ReplyDeleteIf we bought Marco Reus, I would pull my pants down and wave my d!ck at Van Gaal. Just to show Man U fans the amount of meat LFC will be packing now.
ReplyDeleteBut it'll never happen so my peni5 won't see the light of day.
I nominate Borini... especially since he refuses to go to Sunderland and he was, after all, the first BR signing at LFC.
ReplyDeleteZidane and Vieira rolled into one is actually a 2-headed monster. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what your saying here,
ReplyDeleteBut when we signed Torres, I was like 'how the f#ck have we managed that?'. (Especially with the clubs he was liked with)
So let us dream till we wake up
I think you'll find the Basingstoke Gazette reported it first. It was a front page exclusive knocking off their other story concerning a cat stuck up a tree.
ReplyDeleteI don't think either of them will forget it in a hurry either
ReplyDeleteI rest my case...but bring him on and let BR sort it out.
ReplyDeleteUh..Coutinho?????? He's our Magician!! Our most skill-full player by far. His passing ability would have helped brazil reduce that 7-1 easily!
ReplyDeleteTrue. 7-2 would have been much better
ReplyDeleteAmeen :)
ReplyDeleteReus and Isco are very good players that have yet to reach their prime. Too bad LFC do not have the pull for these players right at this moment. We do need to reinforce the 2 full-back positions desperately. Time is ticking away quietly but not slowly.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that if we have put a 14.2m bid in for Shaqiri, then any bid for Reus is not happening. Shaqiri is good even if he is tiny. I don't think Reus is 30m better than Shaqiri though.
ReplyDeletePersonally i think we`ve bought some really good players, who`s to say Markovic Isin`t the new Reus? to many people only to ready to write all our new signings off, even though they haven`t started a competetive game yet. Ok i know Brendan and co, have had some poor buys but i think this time they have got the players they have brought in spot on imo. Yes it would be fantastic if they got Reus`s signature then maybe it would stop all this negativity too, whether or not this happens i`m going to stay quite optimistic about this coming season, with our new signings and hopefully a new look back line, things are looking great for this and the next few years ahead.
ReplyDeleteHe may be tiny, his thighs are not, the man is a miny tank!
ReplyDeleteIs this comment based on the fact that you've seen these players playing in their respective leagues..or Youtube clips? I Agree that It's too early to judge any of them..but seriously..All we want is one Big name signing..Just One....
ReplyDeleteI did not think anyone could replace masch but it seems if anyone can,Can can
ReplyDeleteI never knew how short he really was until i saw him in the world cup..he has a really Low centre on gravity that's y it's easy 4 him to twist and turn. If that 14.2m bid is true I'll be happy.
ReplyDeleteYou broke the Internet..I'll never see "can" the same way again..
ReplyDeleteYeah he doesn't give any ground once he decides to hold the ball, but guys with longer legs can just reach through and get to the ball anyway. What he does have that I like is a very quick release and a cannon for a shot.
ReplyDeleteGreat work... 😂
ReplyDeleteWhat happens if we get Reus and he doesn`t settle into our EPL it could happen, then what would people be saying? we said he wouldn`t be good enough? see sometimes the name does not suit the league, don`t get me wrong with Reus i think he would be fine but thats my personal opinion. And yes Markovic is the real deal yet again imo, but i`m sure you will see soon enough for yourself, very quick and also a very smart player from what i`ve seen of him.
ReplyDeleteLet's wait and see. I Have a feeling there will be a few surprises for us this season. YNWA!
ReplyDelete'cup of tea'...'orange' are these euphemism?
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing, you had it worse than Alberto.
Let me get you a 'blankie' and a 'warm cup of coco'(these aren't euphemisms)...
If I don't leave a smiley face will you think I'm a r@pist?
Who was on page 3 of the Basingstoke Gazette today?
ReplyDeleteWas it Edna oiling her bag of spanners again?
Told you it was a smokescreen JK
ReplyDeleteWe didn't bid for Shaqiri. Trust me, it's BS
ReplyDeleteLovren and Reus.... how good would that be. PLZ BR
ReplyDeleteBrilliant signing if we get him.
ReplyDeleteI love coutinho as much as the next guy but I really don't think the presence of our diminutive no10 would've made much difference to that particular scoreline
ReplyDeleteCos when Ballack played for Munich and Germany he was the centre of the team and he got the ball all the time. At Chelsea lampard had that role and Ballack had to temper his game accordingly. Disagree with you regarding Essien. For a couple of years before he got injured at Chelsea he was an absolute monster of a player and certainly at no point in his career has he been better at any other clubs than he was in his prime at Chelsea
ReplyDeleteThat's actually a quite ridiculous statement. Sterling actually surprised me with his technical ability. Made some pretty good passes and takea up good positions and also doesnt just rely on his pace. But I guess certain stereotypes are hard to lose or we just watched different games. Top it off by saying Ibe is more suited for positions Sterling has played against the best at and produce. Btw look at his performances against the top sides. He was our most dangerous player against against City and Chelsea. Not Suarez or Sturridge. Better finishing and he would have scored 4 or 5 against those two teams.
ReplyDeleteSign Vidal for midfield and Ricardo Rodriguez for left back. If you want Reus then sell Allen, Borini, Reina, Coates, Lucas, Agger, Robinson, Assaidi and end the buying. We are set........
ReplyDeletethe quality we need,ynwa
ReplyDeleteRest assured once we sign attackers with pace. They will come good. We play this free flowing system if you have any semblance of a brain you will get plenty of chances. I hate the comparison but Rodgers is much like Fungus. He can make good players great. SUAREZ was wasteful before he got here. We sold him as top 3 iand best striker in the world. Not coincidence. Watch Sturridge take off as well.
ReplyDeleteNow that the deal for L Remy(27) has collapsed.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers should spend £8-£15M bringing in Luiz Adriano(27) Of Shakhtar Donesk to compete and challenge D Sturridge(24) and R Lambert(32)
B Rodgers should also spend £25-£35M on T Alacantra(23) Of B Munich CM
£12-£18M on El Shaarwaay(21) Of A.C Milan RW / RWF
£8-£12M on Moussa Sissoko(24) Of Newcastle CM
£5-£8M on Ever Banega(26) Of Valencia DM
These five players should be brought in by the end of the summer.
And these players should be shipped out by end of summer which would bring in 30-45M worth of sales:
GK: B Jones GK: P Reina CB: S Coates CB: K Toure
RB: M Kelly RB: G Johnson CB: D Agger DM: L Leiva
RW: O Assaidi FD: F Borini
he played no 10 last season and he was very comfortable all he need is to score more goals he can play anywhere across front 3
ReplyDeleteYeah and he and sturridge can play together
ReplyDeletehe has real touch and technique..... his physical attributes are a bonus
ReplyDeleteIm pretty confident with this one. If the fans give him time he'll be a legend. But our fans aren't the nicest with new central midfielders.
ReplyDelete
