With the pursuit of Sevilla star Alberto Moreno seemingly on the rocks, and Chelsea allegedly baulking at selling Ryan Bertrand to a Premier League rival, Liverpool are ready to switch their attention back to Ajax left back Daley Blind, who is also wanted by several of Europe's biggest clubs.
In June Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed that Liverpool's interest in Blind is 'concrete', and revealed that Reds held transfer talks with Ajax Director of Football Marc Overmars.
According to Italian newspaper TuttoSport today:
* Barcelona, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and LFC are all in the race to sign Blind.
* Ajax want €20m for the Dutch defender.
Blind put in some good performances for Holland during the World Cup, and contributed one goal and three assists as Louis Van Gaal's team made it to the semi-finals. Some info about Blind:
* 2010-2014: Winner of four league titles in a row with Ajax.
* 2013: Ajax Player of the Year.
* 2014: Named Dutch Player of the Year.
* 140 apps for Ajax since 2010.
* 13 apps for the Dutch national team.
* Can play left back, or defensive midfield.
After witnessing Holland's memorable annihilation of Spain, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry raved:
"The Dutch owned it. That was the final we wanted to see four years ago and the man of the match was Blind. The way he played - he did it all to a tee. Whatever van Gaal asked him to do, he did more."
Alan Shearer added:
"Daley Blind down that wing [was] absolutely brilliant. I have never seen that Spain back four pulled around as much as they were."
The footballing education received by young players at Ajax is amongst the best in the world, so Blind certainly has the pedigree. He also has experience of winning trophies, and four league titles in a row ensures that he'll have a strong winning mentality.
€20m is a bit steep, but it's infinitely preferable (IMO) to £18m+ on Alberto Moreno, a player who doesn't have Blind's domestic or international experience.
Van Gaal must surely have the advantage here, though. He knows Blind, and if it comes to a straight choice between Liverpool and Manchester United, it's likely he'll choose Old Trafford.

Anyone but Bertrand
ReplyDeletemanchester have shaw already so no concern there
ReplyDeleteThe way Vidal plays nowadays, I think he'd be wasted at DM. You'd play him in Hendo's position. Two way midfielder. If you play him at DM, he hasn't got Gerrard's range of passing and you lose his energy unless he keeps bombing up the pitch constantly which would be irresponsible.
ReplyDeleteThis is a no-brainer. LFC should have looked at Daley Blind after the WC. It is rather obvious Sevilla is not willing to sell Moreno to us on the cheap. Repeated rounds of negotiation will only jack the price up. No as if we have anyone that is good at price negotiation. We can turn to Ricardo Rodriguez in case Daley Blind wants to reunite with his Dutch boss at Man Utd.
ReplyDeleteLFC must do their best to move GJ this season. Injury prone, can't defend, not great in attack and on very high wages. Don't understand why he could command a regular starting position for years. One of RB's many failed signings.
ReplyDeleteWe need to go all out for Paul Pogba. I don't see why not. He's a brilliant world class talent, and with many years to develop he could end up being as good as Zidane. Pogba is amazing. If we sign Paul Pogba he will instantly upgrade our midfield, he will get better and better every season and we will sell him for £100m. He will light up the Champions League and a lot of people will want to join us. He can partner Lallana, or Gerard, or can and hendo. If there is any doubt of Luis Suarez brilliance not being replaced, I assure you. I've watched Pogba and every touch gets the Juventus fans excited. Cute flicks, fantastic passing range and wonderful goal scoring ability, he's very much like Luis Suarez in that he's a performer. How united let him go is beyond me, but Juventus have made him world class like they did Zidane. We must buy him. If we offer £40m plus Fabio Borini who allegri really likes, I think they will accept. After this we sign Daley Blind who seems to know how to play with a team. He gets up and down well. £17m should do it. Then sell Lucas as we would have Pogba and Can, and Sell Joe Allen who was meant to be a 'number 10' but failed and has only 1 league goal to date. Let's trigger the release clause of a real number 10 in Marcos Reus or Griezman, preferably Reus for £30M and we will definitely win the league.
ReplyDeleteThen sell coady assaidi Coates Lucas Allen for a combined fee of £30m.
If we bought Lallana
He won't choose old Trafford knowing they just spent over 30 million on a new left back. I think knowing he would be no1 for us for the foreseeable would surely give us an advantage over United. I would be all for this transfer. Definitely an upgrade on Davies and Bertrand
ReplyDeleteAnd Enrique for that matter
ReplyDeleteFOR THE LOVE OF GOD... IAN 'F*CKING' ARYE...
ReplyDeleteJust go get Alex Sandro pls... I am begging now
(Hope Ian Ayre visits this site, if so has anyone notice how sexy Ian Ayre has become lately...,,pls get Alex Sandro)
I agree we have made some bull#%t signings really don't think we have the funds that we are told .
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be linked to every player that has Cut price and Discount and loan in front of there name.
In right back or defence player we wont use.
We have 3-4 players already that are not so good should we be selling them Coates Kelly Robinson Johnson .
We only need 3 top signings that are Proven 22-26 years .
didn't know that crap get in BR anyone but bertrand anyone
ReplyDeleteCan I ask how you know the details of the loan contract?? Just wondering......
ReplyDeletePart of me thinks Kelly's finished, maybe a loan might do Kelly good. If he went on loan to another club were there isn't as much pressure to perform at a high level every week, he might be able to get his form back ant his own pace.
ReplyDeleteAs for Vidal, if we are to spend £40M on Juve mid, it's got to be Pogba. It make's finacial sense as well as he'll have more to offer in the long run. Plus he'll likely be sold at a profit, if the vultures circulate.
Only scenario I would take Vidal is a Borini and £20M trade.
Pogba massive yes most off us are crying out for him
ReplyDeleteIt's those motorcycle leathers, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHaven't seem someone look so bad ass as Ian Ayre since Arnie at the start of T2.
Blind or R.Rodriguez would be great ..
ReplyDeletei don't think we should run after Moreno or Bertrand
i don't think this guy would be good sign .. Clyne or Chambers from the Saints is better IMO
ReplyDeleteWhy don't the LFC club shop sell Ian Ayre calenders, is beyond me? I'm sure the sales of these calenders could fund our pursuit Alex Sandro, I'm not a logistics man but I see a money spinner here.
ReplyDelete*Oh God.. think of all those moist gussets, the calender should come with a free mop.... for health and safety reasons)
This has been refered to a number of newspaper articles- including the Liverpool Echo. The original source for it is, I believe, Marca, the Madrid based football paper. Here is their article here: http://www.marca.com/2014/07/23/futbol/equipos/atletico/1406095294.html
ReplyDeleteThe second paragraph confirms, if newspapers are to be believed, that there is such a clause. Don't forget that Atletico were absolutely adamant not so long ago that Manquillo would not be sold- of course that might have been a smokescreen.
It's in a number of newspaper articles- including the Liverpool Echo. The original source was Marca, the Madrid based football newspaper. I tried in answer to someone else's query to post the link to that but that post is awaiting moderation- presumably because it contains an internet link. Of course, it's possible that Marca is wrong but we shouldn't forget how adamant Atletico were very recently that they wouldn't sell this player- smiokescreen? Possibly. Time will tell. But if there is such a clause we should walk away. This kid is too raw to serve much in the present so the only purpose of signing him is if he can stay with us for the very long haul.
ReplyDeleteBecause he is Englands No.1 RB
ReplyDeleteYou do realise that as far as right backs go, Robinson is actually a left back.
ReplyDeleteJohnson will be leaving at the end of the season when his contract runs out.
ReplyDeleteBorini is not the new Cole. Borini wants to try to break into the Liverpool side, much like Henderson did when he was offered to Fulham during the attempted Dempsey deal, Henderson wanted to stay and fight for a place in the side, Borini is wanting to do the same. He also feels that his first season with us he didn't get a fair crack of the whip due to his injuries. Liverpool want players who want to play for the shirt and Borini wants to play for the shirt and yet people like yourself berate him for it.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I read, the clause is Atletico can only buy him back if Atletico are in the Champion's League.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you quite get the deal that was supposedly set in place. From what I read, it's a 2 year loan deal with the possibility of a permanent switch. If the loan is made permanent, then Atletico have a buyback clause, but only if they continue making the CL. So not quite as bad as people are making out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he sees that Borini can play a part at Liverpool. After all, this is pretty much the same as what happened with Henderson and look how Henderson has turned out.
ReplyDeleteIsn't any business about making money? If you don't make money, you go under. And the best way to make money is by success. And the more money we make, the more we have to spend on players, which potentially makes us more successful, which potentially makes us more money. Would you rather we were in 300M worth of debt like we were under H&G? I most certainly wouldn't.
ReplyDeleteThe Sanchez deal was not down to Liverpool, it was down to Sanchez wanting to live in London, hence signing for Arsenal. It was strictly down to player choice. As far as other deals, we have already signed 5 players this pre-season, we have been one of the most productive clubs in the transfer market this pre-season.
ReplyDeleteYes. As a Dutch fan, he is amazing and is definitely going to shore up our defense. He will be a perfect fit for Liverpool. He is the only player I want for the position if we do not get Rodriguez.
ReplyDeleteActually, I remember a few years ago, we loaned out a player, think it might have been Dani Pacheco to a Spanish club, think it might have been Atletico, who in turn loaned him out to a 2nd tier side. I might be wrong on the player and/or the club, but remember there being a loan of a loanee.
ReplyDeleteRobinson is a left back, not a right back.
ReplyDeleteI watched the video, and he looks really decent. He is young and looks like a future star. Get rid of Johnston and sign this boy
ReplyDeleteWow, I remember a few weeks ago, you were all for Ochoa and I said Navas was the better keeper and you told me time and time again he wasn't, now you are saying he is, well there you go. With the funds we have, frankly we shouldn't be targeting players worth under 10M when we can go for better quality players. I would rather Rodriguez for 15-20M than Umtiti (or whatever his name is) for 4-6M, I would rather someone like Vidal for 30-35M than Banega for 6-8M, as although Banega is very talented, he hasn't delivered at all.
ReplyDeleteWhy wouldn't he be good? Clyne and/or Chambers would cost an arm and a leg, especially Clyne, as Southampton have already lost a number of key players, they will put Clyne's fee exorbitantly high.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I see it too.
ReplyDeleteManquilla looks stronger than the twig previously named Ilori who I hope to god has hit the gym the last 12 months. Manquilla and Flanno trading off and the right back is in better shape without the disappointing Glen Johnson. Remember him 4-5 yrs ago he was a force....time to move on.....
ReplyDeleteIf not Before! GJ seems to have lost a lot in the last 3 yrs.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Only a fool would sign a guy with those terms attached.
ReplyDeleteYeah D Blind would be great addition. But i don't think the club should pay £42.5M for Vidal.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers should ship out L Leiva(27) for £10-£14M
And B Rodgers should bring in these three centre midfielders and we could have engine room capable of competing with all the best sides in Europe.
CM: T Alacantra(23) Of B Munich for £25-£34M to dictate the tempo of game from centre of park. ( J Allen(24) Competition)
CM: M Sissoko(24) Of Newcastle for £8-£12M to bring size, physical presence, creativity, class , pace, power and goals to centre of park. ( J Henderson (24) Competition)
DM: E Banega(26) Of Valencia for £5-£8M to compete with E Can(21) and S Gerrard(34)
Gaz, Ochoa(28) was better than Navas(27) in world cup. But Navas(27) size and build would help he adjust to physicality from corners in Premiership.
ReplyDeleteVidal is class and quality but he is not worth the £42.5m he has as release clause.
E Banega(26) is class quality player who is worth £15-£25M but due to the fact he has fell out with the Valencia manager there is no way back for him. But he is available for cheap £6-£8M
Its the similar to when we got Coutinho(21) from Inter for £8.5M and Chelsea got Oscar(22) for £25M . And Coutinho(21) is the better player, Oscar(22) score more goals. When Coutinho(21) sorts out his finishing and brings more goals to his game and is more consistant 8/10 every game or higher then he will be a regular in the brazil side.
E Banega(26) is better than J Allen(24) and L Leiva(27) put together easily. And we should bring him to club for £5-£8M
As B Rodgers said he will not spend money just for the fun of it. If he has to spend £17-£25M on a DM he should bring one of the two best DM in world football at the moment
B Matuidi(27) Of PSG Or J Martinez(26) Of B Munich
The second part was referring to the Llori obsession by Jaimie in the original article.
ReplyDeleteWe are not going to sign Pogba no matter how much some fans crave for him.
ReplyDeleteWe have more than enough cover in central midfield with Gerrard, Can, Allen, Lucas Henderson and even Coutinho and Lallana who will feature in the midfield 3 too. Then we have a brilliant youngster called Jordan Rossiter who deserves a chance as well.
Plus it is highly doubtful we will be spending £60m plus on one player when we still are still to sign a CB and LB. Pogba just is not going to happen.
I hope and I wish u also speak the same way i.e. breaking up the original word, insert a freaking or f**king in between and try to be cool :)
ReplyDeleteAgree. People always just believe what is said in the newspapers. Just because Utd are "linked" with Vidal does not mean that they are going to sign him. We are not going to get Pogba. If we sign Remy, Origi, Manquillo and Lovren, we would have made 8 signings. Add a LB to that and we have 9. That is too much as these players have to settle in. We do not want a Spurs situation on our hands.
ReplyDeleteVidal has just said he will not go to UTD meaning we would be very unlikely too. So if that is the case then why would Pogba consider us?
ReplyDeleteYou are right, we are signing more players than what Rodgers had planned but this is due to the Suarez deal. Integrating this many players is going to be a huge challenge but luckily we are not overhauling our squad, we are strengthening/adding depth.
UTD just signed Shaw, they don't need him
ReplyDeleteYeah. We have the team. We just need to find the best system that suits the team and the players.
ReplyDeleteLike a few have said, he might not choose Utd because of Shaw.
ReplyDeleteI would much rather Blind than any of the other LB's that have been mentioned.
I just can't comprehend this apparent obsession with Ryan Bertrand, a player who struggled to make an impact at Villa; but there were reports yesterday that we are 'pushing hard' to sign him. I'm thus convinced that our interest in Bertrand is a shared nightmare from which we will all soon wake up. At this point I will pick up my morning newspaper to discover that our interest in a potentially top class left-back, like Blind, is concrete.
ReplyDeleteAaaaand just sold Evra
ReplyDelete“He's back in training. Pepe made it clear last year where he is at,” Rodgers added.
ReplyDelete“He is working well and there has been no real conversation as yet. He is just working hard to get fit and we will see what happens over the next few weeks.”
I wonder if it is not advisable for Reina to take a wage cut as the above comments from Rodgers clearly indicate that his time at Anfield is up.
Reina was a loyal servant to the club but in his last few seasons became disinterested and his attentions were clearly towards Barca. I feel it is better for all parties that he moves on.
ReplyDeleteEnrique's a good player, but unfortunately his knees were mouth-blown in the fancy glass factories of Murano.
ReplyDeleteWhat is loyal when you tell your club Barcelona will be signing you and that you will be leaving? Then when his plan backfired when Valdes.stayed at Barcelona then he tried to mend the relationship with LFC again.
ReplyDeleteOne way or another, he will be gone.
One thing is clear though. If Reina leaves, we need a backup goalkeeper. I like Brad Jones but he is just not good enough. We were lucky last season in that Mignolet did not get injured or suspended. What happens if he gets suspended in a CL game? We will be in big trouble. I think we should get David Marshall.
ReplyDeleteWe are not going to get 10-14 mil for Lucas.
ReplyDeleteKelly isn't good enough to play CB for us. He needs a loan to another prem club like Andre Wisdom to prove his abilities. Henderson should not be overlooked for anyone - has earned the right to be one of the mainstays of our squad and first 11
ReplyDeleteIs that what he said ....or is that what you think he might have said?
ReplyDeleteThat is what our club has valued him at, so i am sure we can. I didn't think we could gert £10M back for F Borini(23) but we have been offered £14M. So i am surprised B Rodgers is wasting time playing F Borini(23) in the friendlies. And he may now have scuppered move with that dodgy shoulder injury in game vs Roma.
ReplyDeleteAs with Ibe, Lallana, Lambert, Markovic, Remy, Sterling and Sturridge there are 7 attackers all ahead of him vying for a position in the front three for club.
It is what happened.
ReplyDeletei think can looked ok when he came on early, not great but ok. brendan must have said something at the interval because he seemed hungrier in the second half. him and coutinho our stand out players i think. it is going to be very interesting watching these youngsters, all roughly the same age, developing together. i really don't think that there is a better place for them to learn, especially with our attacking football!
ReplyDeleteit was only a pre season friendly. our main attacking players didn't feature and those that did are still getting their sharpness back. i have no doubt that coutinho will better his assist stats next season, not sure about his goals scored, but i don't think brendan would be too upset as long as he's regularly setting up our strikers.
ReplyDeleteThat makes much more sense
ReplyDeleteOh sorry I did not realise you were there.
ReplyDeleteVidal joked that he was not on his way to Manchester when he was at an Airport (as he wasnt about to literally go to Manchester), he hasn't ruled out a transfer as the papers are making out.
ReplyDelete2 please. We're obviously not concerned about our wing backs being defensively minded. This guy is perfect. It might come down to him actually wanting to play for LFC.
ReplyDeleteI did not have to be...
ReplyDelete"A few months ago Pepe was in talks with Barcelona," Reina's father Miguel told Spanish publication Marca.
"They had an agreement and he was all set to go but then Victor Valdes didn't leave and the deal fell through."
And then there was Reina's soppy open letter where he said it was not his decision to leave Anfield.
He made his bed...
Journalistic integrity strikes again!
ReplyDeleteHow you spell "calenders" is also beyond me? lol
ReplyDeleteFlanagan, Skrtel, Lovern, Blind
ReplyDeleteVidal, Henderson
Sterling Gaitan
Sturridge Remy
You must support Ajax as well. He lacks pace and is not very strong so I'd rather we go for Moreno or Rodriguez. Blind is overrated.
ReplyDeletetotally agree, blind would be the better option and surely his ability to cover the DM role too would be very beneficial and also to rodgers' liking.
ReplyDeleteYou can sell a mop for more than a calendar... How about a mop with a free Ian Ayre calendar?
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought Liverpool and Man Utd comparison was stupid.
ReplyDeletewell ..if he had good potential i don't think A.Madrid would let him go on loan for 2 season with option to make it permanent and his contract ends in 2016 .. would be better for them if they keep him and get more money from him .. like Diego Costa we wanted him last season and they got more money now
ReplyDeleteand now we are in the CL .. we should aim for better than someone might be good and he didnt proved himself
we need now someone proved himself
i dont want you to think that i want Clyne or Chambers in my team now .. but they are much proven than him
and they are from England
Why did we loan Wisdom to Brom and get an untested RB? Is this fellow better than Wisdom? I don't know but surely Wisdom has more experience than him. Anyway it's a 2 year loan deal and his wages aren't much but still I think it's a waste if money. Maybe he may turn out to be a star, who knows.
ReplyDeleteEarly days for that one but I love the way the guy played last year.......hope he continues to grow..........
ReplyDelete
