Liverpool continue to be linked with a summer move for Bayern Munich start Xherdan Shaqiri, and according to Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio, the Reds are close to sealing the deal.
Earlier this month, reports in Switzerland claimed that LFC were in talks with Bayern Munich an €18m ' transfer.
Today, DiMarzio - who works for Sky Sports Italy - claims that:
* Liverpool are on the verge of signing Shaqiri.
* The 22-year old's agent is currently in England to negotiate the contract.
Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson is a fan of Shaqiri, and in his column for The Mirror, this week, he enthused:
"He [Shaqiri] is a left-footed winger with pace, power and excellent vision. From a Swiss point of view, 17 league appearances last season means he will be fresh for the World Cup".
On Tuesday, Shaqiri grabbed an impressive hat-trick against Honduras, but he didn't really make much of an impact in the first two group games. Still, three goals at the World Cup is a laudable achievement, and it will interesting to see how he fares against superior opposition (Argentina) in the second round.
To be honest, I'm a little indifferent towards this potential signing. Shaqiri seems a little 'heavy'; not overweight, but a bit top-heavy, and he could do with slimming down a little. He has the look of a player who may struggle to maintain a consistent weight, but maybe that's just me.
Having said that, at €18m, Shaqiri is undoubtedly superior value to the grossly overprice Adam Lallana, and with two Bundesliga titles and the Champions League by the age of 22, he knows what it takes to win, and should come with a strong winning mentality.
Having said that, of all the attacking players currently linked with LFC, I'd personally prefer Roberto Firmino or Alexis Sanchez.

Agree with you on this one. I prefer Firmino and Sanchez. Shakira is a little top heavy, inconsistent, and, according to Gerard Piqué, leaves her toenail clippings in bed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but she'd look great in be...er...I mean red...ah heck, she'd look great in anything and I'll bet she does a great YNWA.
ReplyDeletei dont think he featured heavily for bayern in those league and champions league wins. so i wont assume that he "knows how to win"
ReplyDeleteWith Suarez out for 13 games we're going to need to buy a few more attacking players than we initially planned...
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteI think we need 2 more attacking players regardless if we sell Suarez, a Winger/CAM and a ST/ Winger. for the Winger/CAM I would say Shaqiri and Firmino are both good options however i do think Shaqiri is a safer option a well known talent who has continued to grow however Firmino has had an exceptional season but one would argue if he could repeat that form? as for a Winger/ST i do hope the deal done Sanchez rumor is true...
ReplyDeletewhats so wow about it?
ReplyDeleteYour statement gave a wow moment! First time hearing that!
ReplyDeletePlease as per the current situation , i dont think we will be finishing in top 4 next season. Suarez banned and BR like his predecessors ( after finishing 2nd) is going after bad investments like Shaqiri and Lallana. Sanchez is what we need. Even Manu is after Vidal. very very upset by this news
ReplyDeleteI assumed he looks stocky because he's so short. I'm not too keen on this transfer.
ReplyDeleteHurry up and get the deal done
ReplyDeleteHe is sick
