Liverpool target Adam Lallana is reportedly 'desperate' for a move to Anfield, and it seems that Liverpool have finally reached an agreement with Southampton to sign the coveted midfielder.
According to multiple reports today:
* Liverpool will sign Lallana 'in the coming days'.
* The transfer fee is believed to be £28m.
* Lallana has rejected Spurs to sign for LFC
When asked about Liverpool's interest last week, Southampton Executive Director Les Reed insisted that the Reds will have to pay through the nose to seal the deal, and that is exactly what seems to be happening.
£28m is a grossly inflated fee, and in my view, it's ridiculous for Liverpool to splurge that amount of money on a player with only two years' top-flight experience, and zero European pedigree.
If the deal goes through at this price, it will make a mockery of Liverpool's repeated contention that the club does not 'pay over the odds' on transfers. If Lallana is worth £28m, then likes of Pedro and Alexis Sanchez must be worth £50m apiece (!)
What makes this deal even more laughable is that Barcelona signed Ivan Rakitic for £16m I'll say that again: £16m. That's £12m LESS than Lallana!
In a recent poll on the site, only 2% of 18,000 (approx) voting fans agreed that Lallana is worth £28m, with most voters selecting a value between £18m and £20m, which is clearly a much fairer figure.
Of course, I hope 'amazing' Lallana is a success, but like Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing, he will inevitably be saddled with the massive price tag, and if he doesn't hit the ground running, the pressure of that fee will be a massive burden.

Definitely overpriced, but seems deal is done. Regardless of his transfer fee, which is not his fault, I think he will be a success. Welcome to Anfield Adam look forward to watching him play.
ReplyDeletetotally agree with you. 28M would be a joke and will come back to bite us.
ReplyDeleteMind you 31M and 100k per week for a 19 year old left back with even less experience is unbelievable....
ReplyDeleteJaimie - what's your view on suarez's ban and, as a result, what LFC should do?
ReplyDeleteBen Smith from the BBC says Lallana is at Anfiled having his medical right now. If it has come from Ben Smith then it most definitely is happening.
ReplyDeleteI know I will be in the minority here but I would rather Lallana to Pedro. Never seen him have a good game (admittedly not watched him as much as others) and I feel physically he would not compete in the prem. Admittedly he has a better pedigree especially when it comes to goals but not sure he would harry defenders like Lallana does and would get knocked off the ball more. Sanchez on the other hand is a different story.
ReplyDeleteits barcelona the name alone reduces the transfer fee for any player who wants to go there
ReplyDeleteMost reports are stating a 25 million fee, still over the top in my opinion.
ReplyDeletewell I don't mind. I just hope this doesn't stunt our advances for Shaqiri and Sanchez... He is a good player. Seems expensive but hopefully that wont matter. Wheres that Left Back we need to sign?
ReplyDelete25 ,million it seems. what about shaqiri news are we're in talks over a contract with him too?
ReplyDeleteAnd the belgian guy
So we've signed or apparently signed
Lambert
Lallana
Emre Can
The belgian guy
Still no defenders and we're looking at sanchez and pedro for suarez??
fee is 25 mil according to the echo and sky, i know im spitting hairs but anything we can get off that ridiculous price the better!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you just bend over and kiss his backside?
ReplyDeletealso james pearce from the echo states the price to be 25 million pounds
ReplyDeleteSanchez and a decent amount of cash should seal the deal. Ben Smith reckons we want Sanchez. It could very well be that Suarez will not play for LFC again.
ReplyDeleteI do not need to kiss his backside. At least he does not make up things like Balotelli to Anfield etc.
ReplyDeleteat this point i couldn't care what happens with suarez he's gone to far now.... 4 months ban suarez come on
ReplyDeleteSometimes I get fed up reading sources claiming "x" player deal is done bla bla bla... Truth is, what happen to the news that was claimed by Phil Thomson that "Sanchez deal is done"? What about Shaqiri?
ReplyDeleteCan we please quickly bring Lovren to Melwood for medical as well?
Also, is Alberto Moreno deal back on?
Has anyone read how sound Chialini sounds? Totally at odds with his on pitch persona. I suppose that is true of old bitey too.
ReplyDeletethis is a very very bad blog, but for once i agree with you, he is bound to be the next carroll and downing, guaranteed
ReplyDeleteSo does the BBC so that is probably the true cost.
ReplyDeleteYour banned for sniping. Go on with yo go.
ReplyDeleteSaints Fan .. Good Luck Adam.. you've been great for us as has Rickie and the combination will be great for you.. for us truth is that this sends a strong message to all the best future young stars that Southampton has just about the best academy in the world.. The Harvard of football.. And that if you join us you will get the chance to walk into the top 4 teams on ridiculous money.. The facilities are amazing and the idea of investing big in that is the thing we will celebrate.. As we get bigger we will hold on to more and we will finance it without borrowing.. In the long run we will be as big as the top 4 .. United started out in similar fashion with youth ( buzby babes).
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a real *Joe Allen* type feeling here.
ReplyDeleteDecent player, but way overpriced on the back of a couple of decent seasons.
Where's our LB? CB? We need Lovren more than we need Lallana
So with Lambert, Can and soon to be Lallana I am predicting in no specific order the following players to still join LFC
ReplyDeleteShaqiri,
Moreno
and Sanchez only if Suarez goes the other way.
I hope yo continue to play the way you did last and before (not against us though). Always great to watch, I would make a point of catching your games when possible. I like your positivity and hope the big bucks coming your way is invested wisely and you do maintain that upward clime.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Seville say w dropped out of the Morano thing?
ReplyDeleteYes, but that could just be to attract more attention from other clubs to the player. They want a bidding war to start. From what I have read from a very reliable source is that terms between Moreno's agent and LFC are done and dusted. So that would suggest If this is true and terms between the player and LFC have been reached via Moreno's agent then LFC will sit back and relax until Sevilla wave the white flag.
ReplyDeleteGood footballing club
ReplyDeleteA dangerous game. For me that is a priority position that needs to be filled.
ReplyDeletei'm a big suarez fan ("YNWA" still applies for me even if he what he did is beyond stupid) but i was happy with sancez plus 50m - Suarez had earned the right to leave LFC as a legend, but maybe he's ruined that now for many fans. i sanchez is the right replacement and i really dont want arsenal to sign him. shiqiri looks fantastic too and although i like lallana he was 3rd out of 3 for me.
ReplyDeleteJeez, you can't discuss the issue without constantly bringing up Souness, can you?! He has nothing to do with this. That is one incident; Souness did not have a long history of heinous, disrespectful behaviour on the field. He didn't repeatedly bring shame on LFC, or persistently bite/cheat. Souness was a credit to the club as a player, which is the polar opposite of Suarez.
ReplyDeleteWould still miss his footballing genius though...but agree the level of activity before world cup has ended would suggest we are at the start of a big spending spree. A few nice looking left backs at world cup will be on our radar.
ReplyDeleteYou're just too cool Jamie ;-)
ReplyDeleteDowning 2.0
ReplyDeleteLuke Shaw is a better player than Lallana
ReplyDeleteIt's in regards to your post. Souness was dirty just in a manly "socially acceptable" way. He has still caused actual bodily harm. You say "selling soul" with Suarez I say there is no soul we were happy for a player to throw out levelers and jaw people (both cheating!) when there were less cameras and faux (not saying you) outrage. It is shameful but like I say some perspective. Also only mentiones Souness once before. In comparison I am more keen on Keane.
ReplyDeleteLuke Shaw is a better defender Lallana a better attacker.
ReplyDeletelet's hope not.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, and its hard to disagree with that view if you take all the emotion out of it although I feel the ban is overly harsh on LFC and could be more harsh on Uruguay plus the ban surely should have involved some kind of attempt to provide counseling etc (appreciate it seems Suarez has refused all LFC's offers in this area but surelt FIFA should insist on it if they care about the player's well being - this is all punishment and no rehabilitation).
ReplyDeleteAll that being said, what do you think LFC's strategy should be now in how they deal with the situation and whether/how Suarez goes?
Stewart Downing II. I'm already looking forward to the "he needs to get used to playing for a big club for a year" excuses.
ReplyDeleteYep, like clockwork, that excuse will start to appear around late-September/early-October.
ReplyDeleteSky sports are reporting its 25 million which is pretty much what we thought. But look what United have just spent to sign luke shaw. It's not just Liverpool being ripped off. Anyone who wants to buy an English player is gonna have to pay over the odds. That is a major factor in the huge influx of foreign players everyone's always complaining about.
ReplyDeleteI hate how people keep saying we could've got rakitic for 16 million. The player clearly had his pick on where he was going and he clearly CHOSE barca. So we couldn't have got him
Whoa, trusting a source suddenly made poor Loganlfc a worshiper of individuals. Maybe Loganlfc can explain how one can be a worshiper of certain individual as requested by JK.
ReplyDeleteJust heard on sky sports unconfirmed report that we are in talks about a deal with barca worth about 70 mill. Reckon that will include Sanchez plus 50mill hopefully.
ReplyDeleteWaaayyy too overpriced!!! Why would we sign him for 28 mil?? F*ck sake he is going to be the new Carrol/Downing.... Get a grip Rodgers!
ReplyDeleteAgree, Sanchez and a fair chunk of change works for me. I think playing in a team built around him, Sanchez is capable of taking his game to the same level as Suarez. He's always played second fiddle to messi at barca to the detriment of his own game. Same thing is happening with neymar. He's like a different player for Brazil because the team's built round him
ReplyDeleteSo now that Lallana (26) is joining LFC immediately squashes any chance of Markovic (20) or Firmino (22) and whoever else was part of those lists.
ReplyDeletenot bad, if true. I was expecting the price to drop to around 50m (30 plus Sanchez).
ReplyDeleteUse the 50 to buy Jackson Martinez and we're laughing.
ReplyDeleteI like Lallana but not for 25mil, however it could be worse, it could be 31mil for a 18 year left back who had one good season.
ReplyDeleteAs for Saurez, you have FiFPro who are the International Players Union saying that this ban has infringed his right to work. The PFA are also unhappy as they were not consulted in regards to his domestic banning.
I suspect that his domestic ban ill be overturned because FIFA have effectively stopped him from being able to work which is a breach of European Law.
Only time will tell, hopefully not.
ReplyDeleteMessi is the blue eyed boy and will be till the day he leaves Barcelona.
ReplyDeleteJaimie, if you were in Brendon Rodger's shoes, would you sell Suarez or keep him?
ReplyDeleteI am not actually overly keen on Lallana. The only thing that gives me hope is that he will be joining from a team which plays a very similar style to us.
ReplyDeleteis crucify an option?
ReplyDeleteagree 70 mill would be more than happy with that, if real counter offer could still bump it above 80mill...just hoping PSG come a calling as well if he is to leave. Was just one of their reporters that said about this story at top of hour...could be a load of bull.
ReplyDeleteHe's earned it to be fair. All I mean is, if Sanchez takes Suarez place in our team and Rodgers sets up to get the best out of HIM as opposed to him being in a team set up to get the best out of messi, I think he could become a very special player. Not that he's not already
ReplyDeleteJamie that seems like a personal snipe at Logan, you may need to review your own rules.
ReplyDeleteOh please!
ReplyDeleteFee well reported to be 25 million not 28.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't take much. I've been classified "an embarrassment" because I dared to say that Suarez's handball against Ghana 4 years ago wasn't cheating
ReplyDeleteHe will clearly need some time to settle in though. Because, with respect, playing for Southampton is not the same as playing for Liverpool. But he seems llike a clever lad and I really can't see him taking as long as a year to settle in. I am sure he could be doing the business in 9 months or so and could well go on to be one of the greatest players ever to wear a Liverpool shirt,
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, that *is* embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteEither way we are overpaying.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't be anything over 17m.
My guess is we ended up having to cover the sell on fee that Southampton has to pay
I would sell to the highest bidder without hesitation.
ReplyDeleteAllen/Swansea anyone?
ReplyDeleteHe was his top target, I'm happy he got him and I'm not pushed about what was payed, he now has no excuse, on to the next target now, 3 so far, not bad.
ReplyDeleteThat's based on a couple of years of reading Logan's posts, not just one post. It's my opinion; if you don't like it, tough nougies,
ReplyDeleteSanchez would be a massive signing if we pull it off. At least there will not be any issues of struggling to adapt with the EPL's physical demands. Sanchez is a powerhouse.
ReplyDeleteWhy was my commented deleted? I'd like to know how I possibly breached any rules there?
ReplyDeleteI always imagined him sounding like Dug from the movie Up.
ReplyDelete25 million is clearly more than the value of his footballing ability. But I think there are a number of factors that will make it a good signing. Lallana seems to be a perfect Rodgers player and so he's willing to give a high price. He was also Southampton's captain! this obviously increases his value to them.
ReplyDeleteHes highly versatile (can play anywhere between DM and striker. hes also completely two footed - seriously, try and find out which foot he favors! impossible.
He was playing in the Southampton system last year, which mirrors Rodger's very well, especially the forward pressure. Lallana won the ball in attacking positions more than any other player last year.
The Allen bandwagon is such old news and he has outlasted all the vitriol towards him so far. Hey, if Lucas can do then so can Allen ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou don't hear that very often (Downing! two-nil)
ReplyDeleteJust what I was thinking. What really annoys and confuses me is that he said he wasn't sure how he would tell his kids about the previous biting incidents then he goes and does it again. What a idiot!
ReplyDeleteYes but signing Lallana will surely now condemn him forever to being merely a squad player :-)
ReplyDeletenice to read a positive comment on here rather than negative. The truth is no one knows until a player is signed and integrated into team whether they will cut it or not. Regardless of fees there is an element of risk to every transfer except when signing proven world class players, but even then for example, Ozil at Arsenal had a poor second half to season. One thing he has on his side is prem experience, lets hope the lad does well.
ReplyDeleteNo Stew you know patience has no place here. You know that time and support are not what people want we want to make quick judgements based on money paid and to do it a lot so when some of them turn out to be right we can say I told you so. That is what watching football is really about. Self agrandismenent based on the odd right call.
ReplyDeleteNah. Even with Lallana, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling, Coutinho, Lucas, and possibly Sanchez/Pedro, Allen will be a first team regular next season. He's an amazing, fantastic, outstanding, superb, one-of-a-kind player, and after two years of settling in, he'll be the first name on the team-sheet next season. Or so I'm told.
ReplyDeleteToo good for him!
ReplyDeleteI think Allen will be sold especially if more signings to come.
ReplyDeleteOh that's right kick a man (Logan) when he's down!
ReplyDeleteIn theory, Lallana should be a great signing. I don't see the major difference between playing for Saints and LFC: he'll be playing against the same players he faced last season, against whom he did really well. The only difference is the level of pressure he'll be under, and if Lallana can handle that, then he should do really well.
ReplyDeleteWhat will be really funny is if Allen does stay with the club as long as Rodgers is manager. I have always been told that I am wrong when saying Rodgers signed Allen to enforce his style of play.
ReplyDeleteThat will not change, I am still going to be told that I am wrong. It is a no win situation for me even if I am right.
Crucifiction? No freedom they said I'm off to Barcelona ... Really?/,,,,,Nah only joking crucifiction
ReplyDeleteAgree with playing for us it'll be about pressure and expectation of competing for titles on all fronts...no hiding place especially with added media attention and champs league...it could all push him on to an even higher level hopefully.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, just completely change your argument. Allen staying at the club is not the issue; if he stays and never becomes a regular then he's not a success; he's a waste of money. You've repeatedly argued that he will be a regular for LFC, and make a massive impact.
ReplyDeleteAs for enforcing Rodgers' style of play; that style doesn't exist anymore. LFC don't play tiki-taka football; it's a style of play that's obsolete at Anfield, just like players like Allen are increasingly obsolete.
Have you been having secret discussions about Rodgers plans fro Allen or did have you been told that he will be the first name on the team sheet in next season in the dreams you have?
ReplyDeleteLike I said, it is a no win situation. You have just made my point!
ReplyDeleteThanks mate...
I haven't 'made your point'. You've just tried to change the goalposts re your view on Allen. You've gone from repeatedly arguing that he will be a first team regular/major player for LFC, to now saying that just staying at the club as a squad player = success.
ReplyDeleteAlways a fan of a Monty Python joke. Even if I did have to read it twice to get it.
ReplyDeleteHope so ... I think that lack of any statement yet from LFC means that a lot is going on behind the scenes and we are looking at parting company with Suarez . Appears they are confident of a good deal and spending the money already ! Announcing a few choice signings will help soften the blow .....
ReplyDeleteThey say sarcasm doesn't translate well when written/typed. I disagree...
ReplyDeleteouch. somewhere, Downing sheds a tear.
ReplyDeleteProve it! I have stated many times before that Allen was a typical Rodgers player and you always argued with me that I was making excuses.
ReplyDeleteI argued that Allen would have been a regular in his FIRST SEASON should he not have had all his injury issues. Who is changing the goalposts?
I think that with all the support that the club and BR in particular has done for the guy his position has become untenable
ReplyDeleteGuilleme Balague just said he's heard Juve is Sanchez preferred destination, but there's still a lot of negotiating to be done. I would imagine we could see them off in terms of wages. Probably ultimately come down to where he and his missus would rather live
ReplyDeleteJuventus apparently have tried and tried again. They do not want to pay what Barcelona are asking.
ReplyDeleteThe 25% owing to Bournemouth has cost LFC £6.25 million should the £25 million transfer fee be correct.
ReplyDeleteHe may prefer Juvenile - his compatriot Vidal is there and they are the best team in Italy by some considerable distance
ReplyDeleteJuve even!
ReplyDeleteAccording to Balague, barca are negotiating with Suarez representatives. He also said they are open to include both Pedro and Sanchez as part of the deal.....
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm
hmmm indeed sounds like a tasty deal...lets hope we twist their arm for a good bit of cash too if that is the case...will have plenty of competition for places in the attack...surely we would not get Shaqiri as well!!
ReplyDeleteIs that hmmmm doubtful or hmmmmm tasty?
ReplyDeletehopefully he will. Like lambert, lallana seems to have enjoyed the steps up throughout his career from league two, and have been successful at every stage. Champions league is a higher level, and they'll have to be used to not playing every game. The family style atmosphere at melwood should help.
ReplyDeleteSounds A lot of money but I'd be interested to hear what his wages are. That could still make the deal better value.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if you think of it, Chelsea paid a reported £30m for Fabregas and is earning a reported £200k a week now.
ReplyDeleteFabregas will probably cost Chelsea more than double what Lallana does LFC in the end.
Lallana is an incredible player, pure quality, as good as anyone on the ball.
ReplyDeleteIf it's 28mn, I think it's as poor a purchase as Downing. However, I don't think FSG is that fool or desperate, particularly after LFC is in CL. I think, with all conditions applied (something like winning EPL or CL) the pay out could be that amount. Also, I am sure, a significant part of the payment 'll be in installments in several years. Might be poor in football Management, but Ian Ayre has a great business mind - I don't think he 'll allow this happen, not so early in a transfer season.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Sanchez and Pedro starting the season off for us than Suarez alone, starting 13 games later
ReplyDeleteEcho is reporting that LFC still wants Markovic and are ready to offer 25M. It will be Markovic or Shaqiri. Firminho will only happen if both deals fall trough. Who do you prefer?
ReplyDeleteThey also forget to mention that Rakitic had only 1 year left while is/was still under contract for four years.
ReplyDeleteJaimie that was very harsh. You've been extremely edgy the last few days
ReplyDelete£25m is still overpriced but it can't be worse than the £27.5m Man U shelled out for the vastly overrated and non-English Marouane Fellaini.
ReplyDeleteBut dude Logan's post had absolutely zero to do with worshipping people. You just *somehow* found a way to attack him. Off to the naughty corner you
ReplyDeleteI've got blue eyes too...but why don't people kiss my ass? :(
ReplyDeleteI think that comparing Lallana to downing is absolutely bloody ridiculous. Lallana is infinitely more skilled.
ReplyDeleteExactly... my guess is Soton wanted around 20 for him, but without the Bournemouth fee... so we needed to essentially pay both fees.
ReplyDeleteHarsh? Give me a break (!) If the worst people get here is being accused of the heinous crime of hero worship, I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteSent from Samsung Mobile
Here's a bit of context:
ReplyDeleteTransfer fees are expected to rise by around 35% this summer due to the new Premier League TV deal. With projected inflation fees, it means Lallana's price is £18.5M.
The actual price and deal details are yet to be disclosed, but the pre-World Cup final over was reported to only include £15M in guaranteed money. If the actual deal is anything like this, then this is a very, very good deal.
We'll get a player in his prime who can make a definitive impact immediately. A proven Prem player who has the game intelligence to fit into the team seemelessly. Of course, there are no guarantees, but with the context considered, this is a good deal.
And when you factor in reasonable wages, the deal is even better. Lallana is going to thrive at Anfield. Mark my words.
ReplyDeleteNot our problem-for once.
ReplyDeleteAndy Carroll all over again
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I REALLY enjoyed reading it. You should be SO proud of yourself.
ReplyDelete...I'm a pretty cool customer...
No offence but I'm not worried if he's a Rodgers type player but is he a reasonable anti- Yaya,Matic,Ramsey,Erikssen etc. type of player.
ReplyDelete
