Earlier this month, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu claimed that coveted attacker Alexis Sanchez is 'not for sale' and remains an 'important part' of the Catalan club's squad. Despite this public declaration, Liverpool continue to pursue Sanchez, and reports today suggest that the Reds have stepped-up their interest in the Chilean maestro.
At the start of June, Spanish newspaper Sport claimed that:
* Barcelona rejected a 'serious' offer from Liverpool in early-June.
* The club expected LFC to come back in with an increased bid.
Well, it looks like that's exactly what's happened, as Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato claimes that Liverpool have now put in a €33m bid for the 25-year old attacker.
Liverpool were linked with Sanchez - nicknamed 'El Niño Maravilla' (The Wonder Boy) - last summer, too, and at the time, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed:
"Brendan Rodgers has ordered his scouts to collect information about Alexis Sánchez, who is Liverpool's transfer priority"
From what I've seen, lots of fans want LFC to sign Sanchez. Indeed, in a site poll last month, I asked whether Liverpool should try to sign any of the following 7 Barca players (all allegedly for sale):
- Cristian Tello
- Alexis Sanchez
- Alex Song
- Pedro
- Dani Alves
- Cesc Fabregas
- Javier Mascherano
The majority of 20,000 (approx) participants voted for Sanchez, which is massive vote of confidence from a decent sample of Reds fans.
After facing Sanchez during Germany's recent 1-0 friendly victory over Chile, Arsenal's Per Mertesacker raved:
"You cannot catch him [Sanchez]. It's unbelievable how quick and how good with his feet he is. If you get one against one with him, it's nearly impossible"
During his great performance against Australia, Sanchez grabbed a goal and an assist to help Chile to a vital 3-1 victory, and I personally can't wait to see him play against the Netherlands and Spain. Of all the attacking players currently linked with Liverpool, Sanchez is possibly the most enticing option.
It's a shame Liverpool couldn't tie up a deal before the World Cup; if Sanchez continues to perform well, his value will inevitably inflate to ridiculous levels, and the Reds may ultimately be priced out of a move.
Whatever the ultimate price, I'd rather see Liverpool spend €33m (£26m) on Sanchez, than £25m on Adam Lallana, or £25m on Lazar Markovic.

Absolutely agree, but I personally would prefer Pedro if I could choose :)
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, good point. I forgot about Pedro. It's a tough choice (!)
ReplyDeleteAgree he would be a great signing but source for this story doesn't seem credible (imo). If LFC really had submitted such a bid you'd expect the story to have come from either the British or Spanish press.
ReplyDeleteSoooooooooo true. Sanchez is amazing. He's my number one pick without a doubt. Can't believe he's up for sale. He would make us THE most dangerous team about.....suarez,sterling, sturridge
ReplyDelete, and sanchez....SSSS.......the sound of a rattlesnake about to ravage you....sorry i got a bit carried away there.....and i hate the whole acronym thing more than most as well.....
Xherdan Shaqiri looks pretty tasty too! Not I must stress as tasty as Shakira but that's a different matter altogether!
ReplyDeleteI hate TLA's (Three Letter Acronyms) you'll never see me use them! Oh wait...
ReplyDeletewell, a great striker, but how would he fit in, would you drop Sturridge or Suarez to fit him in ???????
ReplyDeleteShakira has excellent ball control skills
ReplyDeleteSanchez is a great player and he would be a dream signing for us. I went out to watch Barcelona play earlier in the season and Sanchez was the best player on the pitch, scoring the only goal of the game. He's so quick with the ball and without it. If we have any chance of signing him we should put every effort into getting him. It's a bit strange that Barca want rid of him because he's had a great season but, when watching him live me and my five friends all noticed the same thing.... Messi wouldn't pass to him. Sanchez made run after run and was constantly making himself available for the ball but Messi wouldn't give him it. Sanchez eventually scored the winning goal and everyone barring Messi went to celebrate with him. Messi just walked back to the halfway line sulking like a little kid. Obviously Messi is the top man at Barca but does he have that much influence to try and oust another player, I'm not sure but it was pretty obvious they don't get on.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the right calibre of player for us. Comparing him to Lallana is difficult because there's too big a quality gap imo. Remember Sterling will still not be able to play a full season, imagine opposing teams having to cope with watching Suarez AND Sturridge AND Sanchez. The ability to interchange during a game would be mind boggling, with some teams having to cope with Sterling/Coutinho as well!
ReplyDeleteWe need to be able to take any one player out, even Suarez, and not reduce our threat.
Sanchez (or Pedro) would allow us that...
Sanchez is the man for me, but wouldn't moan if we signed Pedro either they are perfect for the style of football Brendan has us playing! In all fairness either would be a great signing but I edge towards Sanchez as he is electric.
ReplyDeleteGetting a goal and assist against Australia is nothing special, just saying ;)
ReplyDeleteWell said! I totally agree m8
ReplyDeleteShaqiri Is quality and he would be a great signing to! Either Sanchez, Pedro or Shaqiri would be amazing
ReplyDeleteSanchez is amazing! I like Lallana but we all know he will cost far to much because he's English! So if I had to choose it would be Sanchez, Pedro ir Shaqiri in that order
ReplyDeletehe can play out wide just as well.
ReplyDeleteon a somewhat related note, sad to see rakitic go :(
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Sanchez would be an absolute dream signing
ReplyDeleteshaqiri left me unimpressed in dat first game, hope for better #ynwa
ReplyDeleteI can confirm this.
ReplyDeletesummer window:
ReplyDeletebuy: R.Lambert 4 mill Done Deal
E.Can 9 mill Done Deal
G.Ochoa free, mexicain keeper, very competitive excellent back up,
R.Rodrigez 15mill, 20, left back good defensively as well as attack, German league physical so can settle easily,
D.Lovren 12mill, 24, experienced BPL this year a beast at the back but a leader as well,
X.Shaqiri 16mill, 22, pacy, skillful, can pass and shoot give us a great wide option as well as competition with Coutinho in the cam role,
A.Sanchez 24mill, 25 world class player give us a 4th ST, also a wide option,
80 mill 50mill from FSG, 30mill from the sale of:
Reina 3, Kolo 1, Coats 3, Aspas 5, Alberto 5, Assaidi 3 borini 10,=30mill
yes, yes and yes. Would be my number 1 choice
ReplyDeleteAgree I would be immensely satisfied if we made this deal happen, would definitely fill the bracket of "marquee signing", didn't think much of pedro the other night hardly knew he came onto the field.
ReplyDeleteOn a completely unrelated note did anyone see Italy's young RB Darmain? I thought he was bossing that right wing all night long gave Baines so many problems, worth a look Brendan?....
------------------Sturridge
ReplyDeleteSanchez---------Suarez--------Sterling
Agreed
ReplyDeleteNot too bad though when Australia dominated the second half.
ReplyDeleteThat's more like it "wonderboy".- sign him immediately!
ReplyDeleteThough he could have come up with his own nickname instead of stealing mine:-/
It wouldn't do to get the two confused.
ReplyDeleteTwistadee is still hopeful
ReplyDeleteDont judge the lad on one game in first first world cup.
ReplyDeleteNever an out and out striker, more a winger.
ReplyDeleteChampionship Manager amount of signings.
ReplyDeleteWhatever if you have the chance to decide between these two, that's luxury
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha :-)
ReplyDeleteHe's not going to leave IMO. You see what he said about Fabregas leaving?
ReplyDeleteAgree with pukeee instead of Shaqiri then we should get Firmino. And i think we should just keep Reina and i doubt we will sell Kolo and Alberto the other ones are probably gonna go specially if we get Sanchez and Firmino! YNWA! And get Sanchez FFS Rodgers!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd also keep Agger and give him playtime he is much better than Lovren!
ReplyDeleteMarkovic is better than the lot of them.
ReplyDeleteThis old same story again ????
ReplyDeleteYawnnnnn
Apparently Barcelona wanted to use Alexis Sanchez in a swap plus cash deal for Vidal at Juventus. Juventus want Sanchez but did not want to let go of Vidal. Juventus have tried a couple of times but cannot afford the asking price for Sanchez whatever that may be. Obviously he ain't going to be cheap.
ReplyDeleteIf Barcelona had to come knocking for Suarez then there is no doubt they will offer Sanchez as part of the deal.
Playtime? Lol
ReplyDeleteSanchez is a quite wonderful player, a lethal assist machine with quick feet and consistent top quality delivery of the ball. For many I think he would be the epitome of a 'marquee' signing. Far superior to Lallana and a better bet to have an instant impact on the team than Shaqiri. I'd dance naked in the streets if we were to pull off that signing.
ReplyDeleteAnother day, another cruel tease. Sanchez would be great but we thus far have not shown impactful experienced guys cost over 6-7m are truly sought after. Don't get me wrong. I think Sanchez, like rakitic would greatly strengthen us but..................................
ReplyDeleteI was unimpressed with Shaqiri as well in the first game I saw...........
ReplyDeleteSpot on Jamie, I'd rather see Sanchez at Anfield than the othe players mentioned
ReplyDeleteTello is another good option. Sanchez looks great sometimes, but other times he hardly influences the game.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
ReplyDeleteSo-
ReplyDeleteSell 13 players and get 8 others in then. £120m worth of top talent who we can pay with the likes of Yesil's saved wages. Only Reina has big wages and even he has only 2 years left.
Of course, we won't have to pay any of the leaving players' contracts off will we?
Championship Manager/FIFA thinking.
Brought to you by Twistadee (11)
sanchez should be LFC's no 1 target
ReplyDeletePedroooooooooooooooo! Would be great if we could choose between Pedro and Sanchez. What luxury.
ReplyDeleteMy instinct is that Sanchez is a bit more of an individualist. while Pedro has all the skills but is better at linking play in the final third and maintaining attacking momentum. We already have two mostly 'head-down' players in Sturridge and Suarez, so maybe Sanchez wouldn't give us that many new options.
That said, if Sanchez signed for LFC, I'd be thrilled, if only because I had a long debate with a manure fan some years ago about whose team Sanchez would want to play for.
Great list. Would rather have Konyplanka or Shaqiri than Ben Arfa though. I wouldn't ind a powerful MF like William Carvalho either although we have already signed Can.
ReplyDeleteA pound of butter, two pints of milk, and a box of matches, dont forget to count the change.
ReplyDeleteWe have the largest transfer kitty I can remember. Probably the most ever made available so why can't we dream.
ReplyDeleteFSG have said they will back Brendan and they have the money to back him. 20m+from CL, 20m+from TV rights, the 20m or so we didn't spend in the last winter window and whatever extra we can make from selling or releasing players. We're looking at 60-80m there of which 14 has been spent on Lambert and Can which I think was astute business.
So we have sorted our 4th striker and Gerrard deputy position.
Where else needs strengthening? Our defence was a problem last season. I think Sakho will be much better this season and will emerge as a leader type. He is fantastic for France. Ilori is a fantastic prospect as well.
So where it might look like we could do with Lovren we will have to sell our vice captain Agger or our top CB scorer Skrtel otherwise we might destabilise the squad.
Fullbacks should be our priority.
RB: Aurier (excellent crosser and defender)
LB: Moreno, Rojos, Rodriguez, Blind or Vrsalijko.
Creative MF: Firminho, Parejo, Herrera or Lallana, and Max Meyer and Delle Ali for the future.
Wimger/Fwd: Sanchez, Pedro, Griezmann, Shaqiri, Ayew, Konoplyanka, Iturbe, Gaitan, Lacazette or Markovic.
Looks like we have no buyers for Reina so his confidence will be at an all time low. I think his long throws would have been great for our barnstorming attacks.
Would rather have Reina back on a lower wage than spending money on Vorm.
Personally I don't like sanchez, he goes down too easily and is very dramatic. I would prefer tello.
ReplyDeleteI don't play championship manager and what is the plan, keep the dead wood average players still at club for another year or two to get paid well and warm bench.
ReplyDeleteAnd when they come off bench to offer club rarely anything
B Arfa(27) is a class quality player who if B Rodgers can get fully fit injury free confident and motivated again like he has with Coutinho(21) and Sturridge(24) for our club. we would have one diamond of a player, A Fully fit injury free B Arfa(27) could cause any full back in world footbal problems. And as Newcastle do not play him anymore, we could get him for under £10M which is a bargain.
ReplyDeletebut why would they sell sanchez..
ReplyDeleteThat was such a pitty.. Bih has great team, Croatia too. Balkan could make some wanders this year...
ReplyDeleteEvery player on the Italian WC squad plays in Italy except for three who all play for PSG.
