Liverpool's chances of signing on-loan QPR striker Loic Remy have increased tenfold today after the Frenchman appeared to burn his bridges with Newcastle.
Speaking to reporters last night, Remy made the controversial claim that barcodes boss Alan Pardew allowed him to miss Newcastle's final game of the season (against Liverpool) in a bid to avoid injury ahead of the World Cup. He explained:
"Alan Pardew understood my point of view. We had nothing to play for and I didn't want to risk getting hurt again".
Pardew has angrily accused the striker of lying, however, claiming that 'any suggestion' he 'colluded and agreed' that 'Remy did not have to play in this game' are 'wholly untrue'. He further added:
"To suggest that I considered there to be nothing riding on that game is also completely false. Our league position was at stake, as was the Premier League title for Liverpool"
It's probably safe to say that Newcastle just pulled the chain on any lingering hopes of signing Remy on a permanent deal. After all, why would he stay after being publicly accused of lying?
All of which is great news for Liverpool, who recently held talks with Remy over a summer move to Anfield. Additionally, in an interview this week, QPR boss Harry Redknapp basically conceded that he will be sold. He told reporters:
"I don't see Remy wanting to come back. He's talking about playing Champions League. He's got a buy-out clause which is at a reasonable level. Not much more than we paid for him."
Remy cost QPR £8m, so his buyout clause is probably in the £8m-£10m range, which is eminently affordable, and great value for money.

Bad news for us guys. Chelski are doing a Salah with Remy
ReplyDeleteHe seems like a good player, scores goals and has pace, could be what we need. Not a big Borini fan myself, just don't see him as Liverpool class, maybe some kind of swap deal (could throw in Aspas as well)?
ReplyDeleteYep he might feel he's got a chance of being their No1striker wheras he would not be at Liverpool
ReplyDeleteReasonable conclusion since Moan-een-yo publicly stated he doesn't have a striker and BR can't even remotely claim that.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers needs to ship out O Assaidi(25), L Alberto(21) and F Borini(22) and I Aspas(26) this summer:
ReplyDeleteThose 4 attacking players above could bring £20-£25M into club:
And these 4 class quality attacking players should be brought to club to replace the players above this summer:
Priority 1: I Rakitic(26) Of Seville for £20-27M ( Gerrards Successor)
Priority 2: RWF / LWF: Pedro(26) Of Barcelona for £20-£25M
Priority 3: LW: Y Konoplyanka(25) Of Dnipro for |£10-14M
Priority 4: AM: A Lallana(26) Of Southampton for £20-23M
Impressively, those two against the Tractor Boys came whilst

of the Swansea front three showing his adaptability and footballing intellect beyond his tender years.
This is what the writer of the article I posted wrote.
The recent talks LFC held with Remy was media speculation.
ReplyDeleteJamie, why are you trying to choke Logan with your opinion. The man says he rates boring but you're trying to say he doesn't. Who are you to know what Logan thinks. Why is it everything Rodgers , suarez , dalglish etc do you put down. I have never once heard you say anything encouraging about any of them. Please remove your man utd blinkered goggles
ReplyDeleteIt DOES look like a good squad
ReplyDeleteCould we use either or both as make weights in bids for other players?
ReplyDeleteVidal or Pogba maybe.
ReplyDeleteGuess they will have to change style for times when Gerrard is out.
better than borini. has more football iq than borini too.
ReplyDeleteWatched him last week in Dublin, played well, looked eager to please.Aspas took another Chelsea type corner and should be got rid asap.Personally,I'd keep Borini.
ReplyDelete10m would definitely be worth it. I would love for us to sign a world class striker, but with Stur and Suarez guaranteed starters, the likelihood of us attracting a proven world standard striker are slim. Remy could end up being that, but he still has a lot to prove, so I can't see him being Chelseas' no.1 target for a striker. Man City would be career suicide and Arsenal, well we are surely a more attractive proposition than them considering our league form and football we played last year.
ReplyDeleteSeems like this could be very do-able. My only concern would be injuries. I can't remember exactly, but I have an impression of him from his first season with QPR and last season that he is injury prone. Maybe I'm wrong.
If borini belonged to Sunderland and they were looking to sell him after the season he had I think they'd be looking for about 10 million for him, don't see why we can't be looking for about the same, if not keep him he's a decent player.
ReplyDeleteRegarding assaidi, we signed him for 3.5 mil as a complete unknown. Since going on loan at stoke he's proved he can play in the premier league, put in some good performances and scored some crackin goals, I don't think it's unreasonable to think he's now worth 5 million. 15 million for both is probably about right
Let's hope you're right.
ReplyDeleteThese are 2 typically failed pieces of business (many more on the way) of FSG/BR/transfer committee. Will not see teams like lower-tier EPL clubs paying anything more than 8-10 mil pounds for Borini and not more than 3-4 mil pounds for Assaidi. After that they can continue their pursue of 30 mil pounds-rated Lallana and his Southampton cahoots. I always think we could and should have achieved much more given the resources spent over the past 10 years or so. Relooking at the list of players we have/had in Borini, Assaidi, Joe Allen, Sakho, Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Glen Johnson, Robbie Keane, Alberto Aquilani and Ryan Babel etc kinda answered my own question.
ReplyDeletePlease get in right this time, FSG/BR/transfer committee! As a long-timed fan of the club, I would love to see it Challenging for domestic title and at least be in the Champions League every season. Looking at the way LFC constantly throwing money into the drain pains my heart. As powerless as most of the ordinary fans, I can only pray and hope for the best and enjoy both domestic and European matches in the coming season.
And when he played at Roma, he was banging in goals for fun in those wide positions, so clearly he is good in the wide position.
ReplyDeleteHowever, to compete on all fronts, we need 4 strikers, so therefore, we need to keep Borini. I actually rate Borini, he is an intelligent footballer and has proved last season he can score the goals in big games, similar to Dirk Kuyt. I fully believe Borini has a future with us, I can see him doing that celebration of biting his hand for us many times in the upcoming seasons.
ReplyDeleteThis just means that both players have a price, not that the club is desperate to move them on. Both have benefitted from their loan spells, which served as both shop window and development opportunity. With us only really pushing for the league last season, having them stay and train and warm the bench was never going to be a good idea. Now that the competition is expanded, their usefulness in squad rotation if no firm interest comes in will prove useful. Until they are sold, if they are sold, they are Liverpool players and should receive the support due.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, people keep moaning about our lack of squad depth and then want us to get rid of the majority of our squad, just doesn't make sense, we need to keep who we have for the most part and add 3 or 4 clever signings, one for LB, one for mid, one up front and maybe buy a replacement keeper.
ReplyDeleteYou mean about Clyne (23)?
ReplyDeleteDare I say we already have a player that meets all your criteria, who can defend but has an attacking pedigree, who has boundless leadership quality, unparalleled passing vision at his young age and a pretty good accuracy. Has proving he is nifty with his free kick delivery. His name is Jordan Henderson, who in my honest opinion is our future captain fantastic.
ReplyDeleteBorini damaged his shoulder before Sturridge came to the club. But after the advent of Sturridge, it was impossible for Rogers to play Borini in the middle, when he has two of the best strikers in the country. He was never going to be the class that LFC need, so to blame Rogers is slightly unfair. Best for Borini if he moves on.
ReplyDeleteHow can you say clearly Assaidi is better than Luis Alberto? They are different types of player. Assaidi is a winger, Luis Alberto is more of a central player. While Assaidi is an excellent dribbler, Luis Alberto is an excellent passer and has better composure. Alberto was also bought for the future. Being more like for like, would you say Assaidi is better than Sterling? I would say absolutely not, no matter how much I like Assaidi, and I do by the way.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think he brought in Coutinho?
ReplyDeleteBeing the wide player in a 4-3-3, he could be a winger, but he could also be seen as a wide striker, much like Sturridge has been utilised for us, or Suarez for that matter. Whether or not you consider him, based on his own comments, to be a central striker or not, you have to admit that for every team he has played for in his senior career, he has been utilised, at least once, in one of the wide berths in a 4-3-3 system and has generally been quite effective. For whatever reason, he wasn't effective at Liverpool, but at the same time, during that period, not many players were effective for Liverpool. I believe he has a role to play for us. He has shown he scores goals in big games, which he did countless times last season, which would have given his confidence no harm whatsoever and may very well have a say in the CL or the domestic cups.
ReplyDeleteI believe they would. He had a much better season last season than the Chelsea strikers for example. I believe he can be a very good player for us, let's not forget he is still only 23 and has yet to reach his prime.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned a key word there, depth. We need squad depth. Because of this, Borini must stay. At the very least, send him on loan again, but I believe he needs to stay and I believe he is good enough to back up Suarez or Sturridge should one of them get injured. I would also promote Ibe to the first team squad.
