Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has a well-earned reputation as one one of the most graceless managers in the modern game, and after the Blues' soporific victory over Liverpool this afternoon, the Portuguese displayed his breathtaking lack of class once again with his churlish refusal to shake Brendan Rodgers's hand.
In his typically undignified manner, Mourinho, the undisputed King of Crass, disappeared down the tunnel at the final whistle, and totally ignored Rodgers, who was on his way over to offer his hand.
When asked about the snub in his post-match press conference, Rodgers played down the issue, and told reporters:
"It's always how we work in this country, but I won't get hung up on it".
No wonder Mourinho is one of the most despised managers in the game. Would it have killed him to show a small measure of professional courtesy towards Rodgers, who clearly holds the Portuguese in high regard.
In the build-up to today's game, Rodgers went out of his way to be complimentary and gracious about Mourinho, but the Chelsea boss didn't even have the common decency to acknowledge someone who is supposed to be his friend.
Absolutely pathetic.
It's hardly surprising, though. In my view, Mourinho displays all the traits of the football version of a corporate psychopath, a definition of which is provided by Dr. Robert Hare in his book 'Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work':
"Corporate psychopaths are glib, superficially charming...have a grandiose sense of self-worth, lack remorse, are callous, lack empathy, and fail to take responsibility for their actions"
The theory is usually applied to financial/business types, but the common traits are found in people in all lines of work, including football. In his book 'Office Politics: How to Thrive in a World of Lying, Backstabbing and Dirty Tricks' (a damn good read), psychologist Oliver James laid out the 12 tell-tale signs of corporate psychopaths:
* Exploit and trick others for self-advancement.
* Use lies and deception to get their way.
* Used ingratiation/superficial charm to get their way.
* Manipulate others for selfish reasons.
* Don't feel regretful or apologetic after doing something wrong.
* Don't worry about whether their behaviour is ethical.
* Lack empathy and are crassly unaware of the distress they can cause others.
* Dim view of humanity, and often attribute nasty motives/selfishness to others.
* Hungry for admiration.
* Want to be the centre of attention.
* Aim for higher status and signs of their importance.
* Take it for granted that other people will make extra efforts to help them.
Adapted to football, this is Mourinho - in his capacity as a football manager - to a tee. He may be the complete opposite in private (and may even be deliberately cultivating the persona), but over the last fifteen years, there are countless examples of these negative traits in Mourinho's football-related behaviour, and his crass, selfish refusal to shake Rodgers' hand today is just the latest example.
Football clubs tend to mirror the personality of their manager, and that's definitely the case with Chelsea, which is an empty, mean-spirited, superficial club, with no real heart, depth, warmth, or humility.
In other words, the complete opposite of LFC.
Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, is the polar opposite of Mourinho, and is (thankfully) as far removed from the corporate psychopath profile as it's possible to be. LFC's boss is genuinely empathetic, and his warmth, friendliness, class, humility, and dignity are synonymous with the very best qualities of Liverpool FC.
Mourinho may be a winner, but his victories will always be pyrrhic in nature. No matter how talented and charismatic he is, a psychopath can never (IMO) be truly revered, which, ironically, is what the Portuguese probably desires the most.

I look forward to reading the friendly comments on this article later.
ReplyDeleteAbysmal loser, and an even worse winner. I think I can safely claim without the need to do too much research that nobody except Chelsea fans wants to see Chelsea win anything.
ReplyDeletedont sweat it Jamie im not sure if anyone holds sportsmen up as moral crusaders hes the manager of a football club not the Dali lama
ReplyDeleteDear oh dear. A manager completely destroys your scouse dreams so he must be a psychopath. lol
ReplyDeletetrust me not to many utd and everton fans want us to win either it is what it is
ReplyDeleteMight have to do with BR being a bitter loser..
ReplyDeleteI'm not suggesting that sportspeople should be held up as moral crusaders. My argument is simply that Mourinho is the football version of a corporate psychopath. I've thought that for years.
ReplyDeleteIts sour grapes..League table doesn't lie...His ex-assistant's team still sits above his team even after spending a fortune.
ReplyDeleteHow exactly is Rodgers a 'bitter loser'? He was his typically gracious self in his post match interviews.
ReplyDeletehe polarises opinion jk i actually just think hes playing to the cameras ive read numerous articles that off camera hes a pretty humble guy.
ReplyDeleteThat's the telltale sign of a corporate psychopath: superficial charm. Obviously, I don't know Mourinho, but after observing his behaviour in the public eye for years, he displays every trait of being a workplace psychopath, and there's no way (IMO) it's all an act for the cameras.
ReplyDeletemaybe he forgot in the heat of the moment ..innocent till proven guilty and all that....I dont know him but hes led a pretty un scandalous life and seems to stick to his word
ReplyDeleteSport as well as sportsmanship took a knock today. I would sooner support a loosing Liverpool team than a winning Mourinho Chelsea team any day. 'Sour Grapes', the bloke makes a right Chianti of himself at every opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMate seriously calm down. There's always next year. That loss today really hurt. Does someone need a hug?
ReplyDeletea degree of perspective is needed here man utds current manager slept with his brothers wife know thats un sportsman like
ReplyDeleteWhat a load of rubbish, graceful in many defeats in the past, Brendan bemoaned his tactics subtly after the game aswell. The guy is a born winner, I wish we had his tactical awareness, we didn't need to win today and went all out for it and got sucker punched. Dalgleish was hardly a saint was he and we didn't criticise him. We should have performed infinitely better than we did and been more astute
ReplyDeleteThat has nothing to do with football. What Giggs et al get up to on their own time is their business. I really don't get why fans are so interested in footballers' private lives. What I'm discussing here re Mourinho is football related.
ReplyDeleteYou lot really are obsessed with Jose. You're not that classy yourselves.
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight, you attacked him, his personality, his success, basically everything about him and you are the good guy? All he has done here according to you is that he refused to shake hands and you think you are not the sore loser? BR said they brought 2 busses and parked it and you said thats a compliment? you need to get your head examined!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention he looked like a bum. Would it trouble you so much to put on some clean cloths, and shave before appearing on international TV???
ReplyDeleteAnd I swear there must have been booze in his bottle (I'm making that up), kind suited the whole bum look he had going on.
The game when we beat them a few years ago I think 2007 he showed grace
ReplyDeletejose has worn liverpool and rogers like a cheap suit today if chelsea go on to win the prem incdents like this will be myth and your fanning the flames
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have some kind of inferiority complex going on. Where did I say that I am 'the good guy'? And if you read the article properly, I'm referring to Mourinho's behaviour over 15 years, not just one incident.
ReplyDeleteSo what if Rodgers said Chelsea parked two buses. It's true. It's not being a sore loser in the slightest.
You could only be a Chelski supporter; and as for Mourinho, I could provide a lot worse words to describe Mourinho than JK has. I cannot see why all the clubs he has managed, pay huge sums of money for players, when all he does with them is PARK THE BUS. He is without doubt a mean spirited piece of trash IMO.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who claims Mourinho is a great manager... I think Brendan sums it up quite simply:
ReplyDelete“They have a different style to us but if it gets results, great. Jose will be happy with that. Congratulations to Chelsea as they won the game, although they came for a draw.
“It is totally opposite to how we want to play but give credit to them for winning the game. It is not difficult to coach, putting 10 players on the edge of the 18-yard box. They got booked for time-wasting in the 92nd minute but I think everyone could see from the first whistle that was their plan -- to frustrate.''
Mourinho would have parked 11 buses back there and smiled while he did it
ReplyDeleteHow many Trophies has rodgers won?
ReplyDeleteYeah i'm the one with inferiority complex!!! You brought Mourinho behaviour over 15 years up because of a loss. Would you have written this article if we had won and yet JM refused to shake hands? Again you need help. If you can call someone psychopath repeatedly without remorse, maybe you are the with psychopathic tendencies!!!
ReplyDeleteActually, yes - it's an article I've had in my mind for months; the handshake snub just represented the perfect opportunity to present this theory.
ReplyDeleteMourinho is clearly the football version of a corporate psychopath.
Seriously?? You employ Suarez---Suarez is simply a mad man who has bitten 2 players that we know off, 1 while wearing a Pool jersey. Racist remarks have been attached to his name.....He is a cheat (outrageous dives)...and yes he is extremely talented. Sort out you madman and let Chelsea handle theirs.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that have to do with Mourinho, time-wasting,a and sitting 10 men behind the ball?
ReplyDeleteAnd what does this have to do with Suarez? Nothing. No one denies Suarez has issues, certainly not me, and I've highlighted his behaviour countless times.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously don't come to this site often...
ReplyDeleteAnd yet today is the you wrote it. I'm sure you will now tell me its not driven by the loss today. And to me you are clearly this website version of a corporate psychopath.
ReplyDeletehe's at the begining of his career...
ReplyDeleteit's not like we're talking about a manager with Moyes, Wenger or Ferguson experience
Haha, right. I couldn't care less about the defeat, and this is confirmed by my comments during the game (in the match thread). The 11-game run was going to come to an end at some stage. This just makes the next few weeks even more nail-biting, which I like.
ReplyDeletewhat's wrong dude ? apparently you're calling out Suarez and Critizing Jaimie for that, but Jaimie constantly call Suarez out for his bad behaviors, what's going on with people today...
ReplyDeleteAre you f'in kidding me....This is not gymnastics. There are no points for style. There are no points for possession. However, points are given for scoring 2 goals when your opponent doesn't score. Rodgers has won NOTHING!!!! I repeat, NOTHING!!!! Less you forget, all Mourinho does is win, And before you attach his success to having big budget clubs and the accompanying squad, I remind you that this fella won the Treble in Portugal. And before you say , well that's in that little league, not the EPL, remember, he won the Europa Cup with that little team from Portugal and also won the Champions League with that little Portuguese club. Let's see just how good Rodgers is next season when he has to compete in Europe. Remember where you finished the last time you competed in Europe!! Oh and by the way, Mourinho and Co have to play the 2nd game of their CL Semi-final on Wednesday. How else did you expect Chelsea to play today.
ReplyDeleteCorrect!!
ReplyDeleteNor is a player--say, Suarez!!
ReplyDeleteHow many hand shake you want? Was one at the beginning of the match and after they had a glass of wine at Brandon office, bare in mind Chelsea help Liverpool by selling and given players on loan due to the financial mass LFC is in and this is due to the close relationship between the ex Asistent and the best manager in the world!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have Suarez
ReplyDeleteIn fact, Mourinho is a classic psychopath. He has all the hallmarks, for people who truly understand what psychopaths are.
ReplyDeleteAgain---this coming from a supporter of team that employ ys Suarez!
ReplyDeletePlease stop making pointless, antagonistic one-liners like this.
ReplyDeleteTo all the Chelsea fans on here - congrats on winning the game. Liverpool didn't particularly play well, and if we had played better the result may have been different. So for however the result was earned, credit needs to be given where it is deserved.
ReplyDeleteMourinho is not my cup of tea, and today was yet another example of why I do not like him, his style of play, and his less than elegant manner. He gets results, the media adores him because he creates news events and sound bites.
Many managers have parked the buses and won on counter-attacking football. There is nothing wrong with that. What is wrong in Mourinho's case is the lack of humility, a touch too much arrogance and the win at any cost (playing within the rules - good; playing on the borderline - OK but then playing outside the rules - unacceptable for me!).
Having said all of the above, my focus would be on improving LFC, learning from this game and moving on. We have two games to play, we win those and there is a very good chance we can still win the league.
Since when did Liverpool show respect? City showed you total respect and you booed our players for 90 mins. You're the kings of double standards. Last week you were celebrating The title. This week you're throwing your toys out of the pram. Get some consistency and people will respect you.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite sure Everton fans - virtually all of them - would be as sick as hell if their team won against City. And I'm quite sure they'll lose. City's title, but so sad for Stevie, of all people, to be the one to throw it away.
ReplyDeleteThought this was going to happen, haven't been joining in the media handing us the title the past few weeks. Just glad Torres didn't score the winner (which happened in one of my dreams a few weeks ago). I don't like JM as the man in the camera but as a manager gotta respect his ability to win in these tight/top matches. I think with hindsight, we could've set up for the draw and maybe that would've disrupted their game plan more than just doing what we've done every match this year at home and maybe that would've drawn a few bodies up the field.
ReplyDeleteWhat a well-written piece. I will check that book out. and will look forward to your next items. Truly, thank you. T.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool the club showed respect. It's not their fault fans that attended the game were idiots. I think the majority of LFC fans would be ashamed if they did that...
ReplyDelete@Jaimie K I for one actually enjoy the article. Tired of all the trolls on here that completely miss the point, which is kinda annoying, but hey what can you do.
ReplyDeleteTalking more about the game than the article, I'd say that this loss isn't the end of the world...maybe even a good thing. I mean, I'd rather we didn't lose, but we needed this smack in the face. Admittedly, we were getting pretty carried away, and this brought us back to Earth, reminding us it's not over yet. I think the way we comeback from this loss is what will define this team. If we can successfully channel the frustration passion we have every opportunity to prove that we won't be a one-season-wonder. If we don't, well, lets just say teams can implode in 2 games.
huh...@jaimie k changed to @liverpoolkop... cool?
ReplyDeleteMind games again ...... to show total lack of respect for our great club at Anfield . Compare his appearance with that of BR . After all he represents HIS club - classless rent boys . Need I say more ?
ReplyDeleteThere will always be a minority who will be disrespectful on all sides no matter who you support.you can't paint every supporter with the one brush. here is my advice random. pull your head from your arse and stop taking cheap shots to try make yourself feel better about whatever team you support. its quite sad that rival team supporters have to come here just to vent their jealous and bitter anger. The league isn't over yet, win or lose I like all TRUE lfc fans will still love our team and petty little people like you will still be bitter about seasons past
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. A few of us (JK included) have been pointing out our weaknesses despite the terrific run we've been on, and they were clear to see today. But rather than dwell on them, I'd like to remain positive and upbeat - and most importantly united.
ReplyDeleteI still would like to think that by the end of the Palace game, we could be there. Norwich might steal a draw and Everton may turn over City. In which case, a win again Palace would make us only needing a draw against Newcastle.
Good points. JM came to park the bus and frustrate us. We needed to be more patient. Unfortunately, a lot of our players didn't have a good game - which is the real reason we lost.
ReplyDeleteBut, we need to remain positive - which to his credit BR was at the end. We've achieved 3rd place which exceeds our target of 4th. Anything beyond that is a bonus - and we still have a strong shout for the title. So as disappointed as I am in the result today, I keep reminding myself we are light years better than we were last year.
Amazingly enough, I didn't think our weaknesses in the past months were the cause for why we lost today.
ReplyDeleteBut your point is well said nonetheless.
Hmmm................JAIMEK, seemingly a fan of self help books and Psychology, pronounces that Mourinho is a narcissist / psychopath / satanist.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how this squares with BR's recent assessment of Mourinho as widely published -
"For me there is no drama, no issue with him. The advantage I have is I know Jose behind the manager, a man who is humble, respectful, has real good values and ethics, but he is a winner and he wants to win.
"And I know even if we are considered a rival that, if they didn't win the league, he would want Liverpool to win it."
Now, who is the real narcissist here? Could it be the author. A studious wannabee that puts the cart before the horse when it suits in order to form a half baked theory that fits his agenda/psyche?
Who has likely made the more accurate assessment? - is it BR or is it the author of this article? You decide!
You're totally out of order.
ReplyDeleteI didn't call Mourinho a Satanist.
Mourinho won today with anti-football. But what will he have to show for it at the end of the season? Absolutely Nothing! Spent millions again, wins nothing, finishes third. Sunderland, Stoke, Palace all spanked him - where were his genius tactics in those games???
ReplyDeleteTo an extent you are right. The weakness I refer to is the lack of a Plan B when the bus was parked. We knew it would be there, but when Sturridge was introduced, we didn't change our approach. I know I am nit picking BUT I want to remain positive - since we still have a chance to win the league.
ReplyDeleteFinally an objective liverpool fan. See, Chelsea came to Liverpool looking to pick a draw not because they couldn't attack as they did at Man city, but because Mourinho and Chelsea staff and players would prefer Liverpool to win it rather than Man city (given all the injuries, fixtures, suspensions and current position). All these people attacking Mourinho should realize that it was Liverpool that were the architect of their own loss. They were not required to win against Chelsea, with the way Chelsea was set up, they should have also been more cautious. Chelsea was not responsible for Gerald's mistake or the second goal. We all understand that Liverpool this season is an attacking team, but you have to be sensible at times in games like this. Get a draw against Chelsea and you are EPL champions, but no, Liverpool chose to attack and not organize.
ReplyDeleteI love "two players that we know of"... as though there might be several, maybe dozens, maybe *hundreds* of other Suarez bite victims, kept quiet like the victims of Jimmy Saville by bribery, corruption and intimidation.
ReplyDeleteI think you would have if you knew for sure that he has a "6" in his phone number! :-)
ReplyDeleteHe only gets embarrassed if he has to genuinely say something nice (on the very rare occasions, that has happened),
ReplyDeleteWe were the disgrace today. Not throwing the ball back twice is unforgivable. We should be better than that. It's embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteIf our team was affected by what an opposing manager wears, then I'm afraid our problems are much bigger that we thought...
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, Jaimie.
ReplyDeleteExcuse? It's Rodgers who needs the excuses. He just lost. Jose is grinning all the way home. Are you? Is Rodgers? I am.
ReplyDeleteThere was only 20m difference in the transfer costs of both starting XIs today. I wonder if Liverpool will be apologizing to Crystal Palace next week, for having spent a lot more than Palace on their team.
ReplyDeleteMourinho is a man with no class, just like his club, he always moans when other clubs 'park the bus'. Fair play though he came for 3 points and got them. Liverpool seemed clueless on how to break them down, just played into their hands without a plan B. Propably have been a draw if it were'nt for Gerrards mistake, but lets be honest, we were never going to score against them, as we were so bad, i knew exactly what Chelsea would do, so Rodgers should have too, Mourinho knew how we would play and acted accordingly, put one over Rodgers today. Ironic how Stevie G has probably thrown his best chance of a Premiership title down the drain.
ReplyDeleteNot saying it affected us just that there is a correlation between his appearance and the way he conducts himself insulting his hosts.
ReplyDeleteOh man its such a shame mourinho didnt shake hands with BR.....maybe it was cos mourinho felt they had shared enough pleasantaries with each other DURING the game......haters alert......just move on
ReplyDeleteEveryone here was laughing this time last week, at Azpilicueta's trip that set Altidor free and led to Sunderland's penalty and goal. So you'll know exactly how heartily I am now laughing at Gerrard falling on his face.
ReplyDeleteIt's lucky Gerrard never came to Chelsea. With his own goal in a Cup Final and today's gift, he's been of more consistent service to Mourinho while dressed in red.
You know Chelsea are just a soulless club when their fans like you reflect that.
ReplyDeleteFair comments but I think Hendo would have made a difference . We will learn from this and be ready next season in Europe.......
ReplyDeleteDid hear that Josie had to get down tunnel pronto as pills were wearing off ;-)
Yeah, no plan B, exactly, all we did was put the ball onto their defenders heads, plus WTF was Johnson doing? why does'nt he cross the 'effing ball? Does my head in!
ReplyDeleteThey had their hands on eachother while they were whispering. How about when they shook hands before the game then?
ReplyDeleteExcellent post JK totally agree. Brendon will learn from this. We just lacked that final pass, that bit of composure and also a but of luck.
ReplyDeleteVery glad we have BR and would rather build a team to play attractive and attacking football. with a fee additions to and more experience at this level we will know how to grind out results.
Not if it gets them in Europa
ReplyDeleteThe worst virus in Liverpool seems to be the one that has everyone stricken with a bad case of excuse-mongering. You lost. Badly. To a team with a central defender who had never started a single first team game before. I hope you all feel better in a week or two.
ReplyDeleteOh dear,never mind.
ReplyDeleteThat was the most negative display by any team at Anfield ever, in fact probably the most negative by a team in any match, 5 mins in and the time wasting started, the real irony is how mourinho berated teams like west ham for playing in the same manner, then has to resort to adopting the very same tactics, only even more negatively. We've already fulfilled our goal for the season which was champs league football. LFC's season doesn't hinge on winning the league this year and for a team in transition it has already been a very successful season. What will be a successful season for chelsea???
ReplyDeletecos he'd just join the others in putting the ball on their defenders heads lol ;)
ReplyDeletemore like a deviant
ReplyDeleteWe got it the 1st time RICHARD. Perfect name ...as you clearly need attention.
ReplyDeleteNo worries. We're still proud of you. Brendan and the boys. Notice their substitutes compared to ours? Just look at the value of Torres and Willian that they brought on!! We KNOW our squad isn't there yet. Still amazing what they done so far for what we got!!
ReplyDeleteYNWA!! Ever!
AND...Dick....If you had a chance to buy him...You would.
ReplyDeleteWhy not go post on a Chelsea board about buying half of Atletico Madrid or something.
I thought plastic had no brain?
tear that moyes statue down. Its bad luck!
ReplyDelete"LFC's season doesn't hinge on winning the league this year"? Then which year will it hinge on winning the league? Liverpool has been in "transition" for the entire history of the Premiership. Repeat, the ENTIRE HISTORY of the Premiership, with not one title. Brentford, Torquay, Leyton Orient and Brighton have no fewer Premier League titles than Liverpool. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware that Liverpool hadn't being playing at Premiership level much in recent years? It comes as a surprise since I don't remember them being promoted up from The Championship. Also I could have sworn that they have relatively recent European experience? Anyhow, I would agree that they have a good platform to build on and hopefully will emulate the success of Arsenal and their similarly noble, romantic, purist approach.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised about Moanhino. This is true to form for him; vintage Mourinho. He is a disgrace to the human race. I pity his wife and kids
ReplyDeletewow how sad you cannot even answer the simple question asked of you, instead resorting to your typical childish banter that you exhibit throughout your responses. For your info, since you seem to want to drag the history books out, even without any prem titles LFC still does and always will have a richer and more fulfilling football history than anything chelsea can buy. oh and I'll even repeat that simple question for you,
ReplyDelete"what will be a successful season for chelsea ???"
Jose is a tactical genius - at 0-0 BR & JM were actually laughing and conversing on the touchline. Forget that BR was his understudy, forget that BR acknowledged Jose's influence on his own career, even gloss over how JM only had kind words to say about BR's impact at Liverpool. Just get hung up over the fact that he didn't shake hands with Rodgers; pathetic Liverpool fans who bought into the media hype and actually thought it was a given they'd win the league. Chin up it's still possible- but get over today because an article on JM being a psychopath when you have a borderline cannibal in your team just shows you are cracking under pressure.
ReplyDeleteYou are not surprised because people tend to believe what they want to believe. I tend to believe that you are probably ill informed and small minded based upon what you have written.
ReplyDeleteBelieve what you see, not what you hear. I saw a pretty ill looking Mourinho in the post match interview. He probably went down the tunnel quickly because of this. That is the reasonable explanation - not a snub to his friend BR. But you will believe what you want to believe, I'm sure. So will I, probably.
Maybe Mourinho was in a.hurry to tell his wife! Why would anyone wish to shake Mourinho greacy hand?
ReplyDeleteYou have funny and misconceived ideas about how viruses are spread, If I had flu and coughed/sneezed on you then that would be ok according to you then, so long as we didn't shake hands. For sure your ignorance would get you flu, and you have the cheek to question the hygiene of northerners with your ignorance lol, I suggest you look much closer to home
ReplyDeleteIts a hard fact to acknowledge that you always be hated throughout the world for developing a typical way of playing football that is beyond negative. Chelsea will always be a plastic club with a marginal base of true fans. The title is not in ours hands anymore, but you are still 2 points behind us with only two games to play. Can only hope that Atletico will crush your season this Wednesday...
ReplyDeleteShould you not be posting on a Chelsea board talking about buying half the players in Europe and thinking that your way of doing things is good for this sport?
ReplyDeleteShould you not be trying to think of something original to say? Preferably sensible, if it isn't too much of a stretch.
ReplyDeleteChelsea is in competition with Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich and the like. Chelsea's spending is in line with the level of competition they are engaged in and the best clubs they compete with. Liverpool on the other hand, do not worry about competing with all the best and richest clubs in Europe. Their budget has only needed to be that of any other club that has never won a Premier League title, like Norwich, Palace, Stoke and West Ham. Notice that Chelsea left out many of their best players, to prioritize the Champions League over a game with Liverpool. It was not necessary to play the big guns and Mourinho could even pick a central defender making his DEBUT against the best attackers Liverpool has. To Chelsea (and its supporters), Liverpool is of very secondary stature, and as shown both times this season, brushed aside without ado.
ReplyDeleteOne minute you say he was rude to Rodgers, the next you say he was shaking hands and that they had their hands all over each other. Is there some kind of communal madness here?
ReplyDeletewow so your a one kid team now lol
ReplyDeleteYet another sad case, that has to come over here to the Liverpool fans to throw cheap shots, just shows that you have the same cocky, disrespectful lack of class that mourinho has. Go back under whatever rock you slithered out from and save your sarcastic pathetic comments for your fellow narrow minded supporters. Id rather support a team that play the game of football than a team that bitch about defensive sides then waste time after 5mins.with all the money they have you'd think they'd be able to play football instead of lining their box with 10 defenders. Its asshole managers and asshole supporters like you that are ruining this once beautiful game.
ReplyDeletePsychopath or not Jaimie his defensive set-up virtually quashed Liverpool's much lauded attacking flair.I believe BR had no option but to attack because his defence could not have stayed the course. BUT if only we had had big Andy Carroll for the last half-hour he could have made the break through. Well done Liverpool we're not dead yet!
ReplyDeleteIt's already been a successful season. We aren't desperate like you lot. Having won a truckload more trophies in recent years than Liverpool, there's no panic over the prospect of winning fewer for a season or two. But for Liverpool supporters, the hunger is like watching paupers fighting over a loaf of bread. That's not about fanatical support, it's about deprivation, frustration and deprivation. It's pitiful to see actually. Like children crying because they can't have some sweets. You inhabit a different world my friend. A world of make-believe and delusion. You will win nothing this season, and I can assure you that winning nothing will hurt you far more than me. I'm still fat on the nourishment of recent successes. You, in comparison, are skeletal.
ReplyDeleteLook, we all know for a fact that once Abramovich is gone, Chelsea will be finished. There's not a club there of any real importance. You mention Norwich, Palace, Stoke and West Ham -- those are clubs about the same size as Chelsea, and Chelsea will go back to join them in due course. You're just a rich man's QPR. Liverpool, on the other hand, are as big a club as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, A.C. Milan, Man Utd, with millions of passionate supporters around the world. We'll still be competing at the top of the world game when Chelsea are dragging their knuckles with clubs like Leeds and Forest, lost and aimless, wondering where the good times went.
ReplyDeleteSo enjoy them while they last; you got a good result today. But we'll see what tomorrow brings.
I do hope Athletico provide a better quality of opposition than we saw at Anfield. You can be sure Mourinho won't be playing a central defender with ZERO starts against the Madrid team. Mourinho has too much respect for Athletico to do such a thing. Liverpool? That's another story. He knew only so much was needed for that game.
ReplyDeleteNot just a good result. A good laugh, too.
ReplyDeleteThe point is....just like Real, Barcelona and PSG..... buying up players is all you know how to do.
ReplyDeleteLose 1 game....do not win 1 trophy and it is like the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse showed up and demanded payments in the form of your soul.
ALL teams WANT is level $$$ playing fields....NOT where one team can spend the amount of up to 3-4 teams in the same league.
It is what made the NFL in the USA as strong as it is today... THEY share all the TV revenue money and CANNOT spend more than a certain amount of money... NO Loaning out BS of players you buy just to have as toys and ornaments....
I DO not care if that is Another sport..... sometimes to fix Your own sport you have to look at what other sports have done and realize for the good of it and the sustainability of it... You have to change.
IF you cannot see that your club along with those other 3 is what is wrong with this sport..... but blame One player who dives as an issue above that..... than what can you say.
You do not care about the sport really.
So winning is a negative outcome? Beware of Arsenal disease! I notice that this condition is becoming rife amongst Pool supporters currently. I blame it on too many fans having no experience of participating in competitive sport and consequently not understanding what a sporting contest is all about. It is not a fashion show, a gymnastic display, or a ballet performance. It is a contest where one opponent prevails over its rival, in time honoured fashion. Never lose sight of what Football is really about. Winning ugly is cool. It's certainly better to win ugly than not win. Sometimes it is more gratifying to win ugly. That's life. And we all know what Bill Shankly said, don't we?
ReplyDeleteAtletico plays almost the same cynical way your team does...BUT big difference is that they are not full of money and a big bloated team that can sit starters and still play as well as a mid level team with Plan B>
ReplyDeleteThat YOU root for. Teams that now how to handle their budget the best way possible and do it right.
I respect the OR some of the players on your team but do not act all high and mighty coming here..... when if you had the same small squad that Liverpool had.....you would be lucky to be fighting for Europe.
At the end of the day regardless where we finish this season I'm damn proud of the lads. They're top of the league, top of the scoring charts and top of the fair play league. Our manager is gracious and condidered and our fans and club have a heart and soul admired globally. They may have lost today but I was still proud of them when they came off - you can't win every week! Can anybody possibly feel proud of Chelsea? They've got one of the most expensively assembled squads in footballing history yet they're time wasting 1 min and 30 secs into the game and used every dirty, underhanded trick in the book. Nobody with any kind of conscience or decency could truly support Chelsea, I just don't believe it. Plastic, superficial fans for a plastic superficial club. They disgusted me today. No number of trophies is worth turning into them
ReplyDeleteSad. Sad.
ReplyDeleteHe is a total disgrace as a human being and history will not remember him as the greatest. The greatest has sheer human values and he is just a machine operated by his master - billionaire master ! Shame on you Mourinho, beautiful sports like football is tainted by selfish and morally depleted bastards like him
ReplyDeleteMourinho leveled things up for you today by picking a starting XI that was within a mere £20m of your own team's cost. Actually, if not for having bought Matic back at a much higher fee than they originally bought him for, Chelsea's starting XI would have been LESS costly than Liverpool's.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, so what? Do Crystal Palace, Norwich and all the rest bleat incessantly about Liverpool's vastly superior wealth? Did Chelsea supporters whinge for all those years that Liverpool was backed to the hilt by the Football Pools giants (before which Liverpool was a nothing club)? Of course not. Excuse-mongering is the mark of Liverpool and Arsenal. Pitiful, really.
Are you saying Liverpool does not spend 3-4 times more than Norwich or Crystal Palace who are in the same league? Why don't you campaign for Liverpool's budget to be limited to the same size as that of West Brom, if you are so keen on spending equality?
ReplyDeleteThe bad days now seem so are distant and long ago. But for you, those kind of days are your here and now. I'm tiring of this banter. I'm going to re-run my recording of the game now, while enjoying some nice schnapps. Goodnight.
ReplyDeletevery well put. absolutely classless. him and and his team deserve fines for the unsporting behavior they display all the time. to have a ref pointing at his watch 3 mins in is ridiculous. the ref should have immediately started handing out cards. disgraceful leadership both on and of the pitch for Chelsea.
ReplyDeleteit truly hurt to watch Gerrard slip. I hope we punish the next two teams and just maybe city slip. because he is the most deserving player of a league title i have ever witnessed.
Lets see if you can answer this simple question with a straightforward grown up response.
ReplyDelete"since you already deem yours a successful season, what makes yours a successful season and ours not a successful one???"
I hope you watch the re-run of your last match with Atletico and the 2nd leg too
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait until it all starts crashing down and the money runs out...... and we will see how you feel then.
ReplyDeleteSelf entitled fans are the best to talk to....even on the Internet.
Even without the PL trophy this season has been magnificent. We are in the CL and still have a chance to win the league albeit need a favor from our neighbors. BR did not show he is a bad loser, but just showed he was disappointed in the loss. We have to be honest Chelski defended great, they actually parked the bus if not 2 buses in front of their goal. They have every right to that even after spending 100s of millions on their sqaud, but the reason why people despise Mourinho is that we will throw out his toys, if another team did the same against Chelski and call it 18th century football; he is an a** and hypocrite to say the least. We have to be honest Liverpool seemed to lack ideas in end and our one dimensional style of play (which has been great till now), came short; this was due to the limited squad depth, which hopefully will change in the summer. Against Chelski we lost our way, perhaps our players got caught laughing at Mourino's antics and lost focus on what ahead. Hopefully we will win the next 2 and Manure Shitty will slip on turd and fall face first in it dropping at least 2 points.
ReplyDeleteGladly. They should. WHEN Chelsea does the same and all the others mentioned.
ReplyDeleteTrust me...I despise Real Madrid way more than your team.
I have no problem with what you are proposing.... Would you? That was the issue..... but good try at bringing up my same point.
Well don't leave now?? Your logic is becoming even more coherent and confusing as we keep speaking.
ReplyDeleteChelsea is complying with Financial Fair Play rules.
ReplyDeleteYou need to take this up with Manchester City instead.
Maybe Atletico can let you borrow 1/4 of their heart......and get you started on having one?
ReplyDeleteI include them....ALL of them that do not.
ReplyDeleteSo you have FFP? Are you using Mob accounting methods?
FFS, now you're just being a smartarse. Obviously, the point of discussion in here is Mourinho's handshake snub after the game. You're blaming it on a virus, yet (correct if I'm wrong), Mourinho shook hands with BR before the game.
ReplyDeleteAlso, who the hell likes their own comment!? You're another self-obsessed loon. Amazing how much Chelsea fans will idolise Mourinho.
Do you want to nominate him for an appearance on the Jeremy Kyle show? It might be fun.
ReplyDeletePersonally I would say that Cricket is a more beautiful sport than Football. Unfortunately it has genuinely been tainted by "Selfish and morally depleted bastards" - some of whom were jailed.
Jail for José anyone?
And complete and utter mediocrity and irrelevance was the mark of Chelsea before sugar daddy came in. Chelsea as a club didn't get to where they are through their own, internal achievements and hard work. You are where you are now because one certain got bored and wanted a toy to play with. At least we accept that clubs like Utd have a raw soul and identity, achieved through their own work.Stop acting like you're such a superior club. Under all that gloss is a hollow, soulless place.
ReplyDeleteRe-watching the game? Why do you bother when you just know you'll fall asleep before half time anyway? At least our wins are exciting to watch...
ReplyDeleteI just watched the re-run of the Chelsea goals. Marvelous to see again! I even ran them a few times on slow motion, just to watch the Liverpool faces behind the goals, aghast with horror and deflation. Sorry... I can't stop to answer your question... I want to run them again. There's one particular face in the crowd, weeping! Another is gnashing its teeth in rage. Truly enjoyable to watch. Got to go... enjoy the game at Crystal Palace!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the right attitude. We can't change the past, so lets focus on training hard, cutting out mistakes, but above all, keeping the sense of unity that got us this far
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you bother when you don't know how to comprehend arguments whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteIf they shook hands before the game, then your virus excuse for Mourinho's post-game snub is totally redundant.
