Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers seems to taking on an increasing number of personal scouting assignments at the moment. Two weeks ago, the Reds boss visited White Hart Lane to watch Rodrigo strut his stuff for Benfica, and last night, he flew to Germany to watch one of the Bundesliga's most promising wingers.
According to The Mirror:
* Rodgers flew to Germany on Friday to make a 'personal check' on Bayer Leverkusen starlet Julian Brandt.
* LFC's boss is interested in signing the 17-year old this summer, who Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller claims 'is one of the most talented players in German football'
Sami Hyypia's beleaguered team lost 2-1 to Hamburg, but Brandt scored Bayer's goal, and put on a good show in front of Rodgers.
* Turns 18 next month.
* Joined Leverkusen in January 2014.
* 9 goals in 31 apps for various Germany youth teams.
* Last season: 22 goals for Wolfsburg’s U19 side.
* Football role models are Marco Reus and Diego.
* Rejected Chelsea to sign for Leverkusen.
When asked in a recent interview about his strengths and weakness, Brandt told reporters:
"Weaknesses are defensive work and heading ability. I live by my speed, I'm good with both feet, and I give everything on the pitch"
Brandt only signed for Leverkusen three months ago, so why would the German club let him leave this summer? It seems unlikely, but perhaps the probably departure of Sami Hyypia might shakes things up a bit. After all, Hyypia is the manager who signed Brandt, and if he's no longer at the club, perhaps the youngster might be more amenable to moving on...?

Looks like a good prospect. Bring him in
ReplyDeleteWe want to see a defensive midfielder inked
ReplyDeleteHyppia will be our defense coach, i hope so, as i am not aware what he is up to after the Bayer job. Then if he brings little Brandy with him, why not.
ReplyDeleteI would like to find out how the Mirror knows which player Rodgers was scouting. He must have left a note on his seat when he left the stadium which begs the question on whether Rodgers even was at White Hart Lane two weeks ago...
ReplyDeleteI rang the club about these secret scouting missions but they said they were unable to comment on operational matters.....
ReplyDeleteBayer Leverkusen sack Sami hyypia
ReplyDeletePretty sure he will get another job soon, maybe in the EPL.
ReplyDeleteI just hate lazy journalism.
ReplyDeleteBad decision IMO
ReplyDeleteThese things happen every season. This was Sami's first managerial job. He is still a young manager and can take all the experience he has gained at a top club to his next job. He will be fine.
ReplyDeleteRodgers, sign Sami Hyypia up to the coaching staff immediately!
ReplyDeleteBloody hell city are already 1-0 up...
ReplyDeleteBloody cheats. My saturday team was robbed of a win today because of a f**king dive in the box...
ReplyDeleteI think he is 100% going to Brazil now that the J. Rodrigues looks out of it.
ReplyDeleteI think his rapid improvement has been down to the player improving his game awareness, physical prowess. To me Roger's takes enourmous credit in the way he's man- managed him. Timely rests, tactics, arm around the shoulder etc
ReplyDeleteI agree the adjectives are hyperbolic in nature but he should go to the Brazil though!
sterling could get in the young player of the year award for the premier league, but his pedigree is still in learning mode. he is no where near sturridge yet, and forget suarez and steven G who are in the worlds top 10.
ReplyDeletesterling has by far been one of the best players for Liverpool in the past four months without his burst of pace and his dribbling leading to passes to the strikers sturridge and Suarez would have far less goals
ReplyDeleteIn form terms you would say he has been better the last two games than Suarez and Sturridge. He isn't the better player just has been for a couple of games. I don't look at it in purely goals and assists and more their impact in a game. Not over the past few months though. Sure in some games but not consistently. Like Jaimie alludes to we have won games without him.
ReplyDeleteAs for the ego massages I am not so sure. Sterling plays with a confidence that he acknowledges Rodgers has help him to build. Pundits almost as a job title go overboard but I trust Rodgers man management skills to keep Sterling's head right.
He will dip in form at times it is to be expected. If older players like Skrtel can have a good season bad season ration then we can't get too upset with Sterling falling in and out of form at his age. He is (like Barnes said) as good as anyone in the league at the moment and luckily it is at the right time for us.
I think he would have been going anyway. I think JRod injury just means Welbeck will be going too.
ReplyDeleteSterling is clearly not our best player and I agree we shouldn't overpraise him too much ,but he does have the ability to change a game as shown against Southampton,Jamie you said if you took any of them four out of the team we wouldn't be challenging for the title but I have to say I think Sterling has been amazing for us too and without his contribution and link up play especially with Suarez we wouldn't be challenging for a title either.
ReplyDeleteHis workrate is superb aswell maybe we shouldn't overpraise him but he deserves credit where its due.
Bring on City eurgh I mean West Ham.LOL
YNWA
He is not but could be if he actually realises how good he can be and be even more positive too many back passes - hodgeson will play him in a defensive minded way and stunt him.
ReplyDeleteRodrigo will be a good addition. The fee being branded around of 30 Euro is a it much, when we can can better for that amount of bubbly. Would rather see Shaqiri or Lucas Moura.
ReplyDeleteI see many fan calling out for a DM. I don't we are on the look out for one. As Gerarrd has taken to that role, we still have Lucas, and Coady may come in as Lucas's back up. Albeit would love to see Yan M'villa or Romulo signed.
Good strike backup...It's the kind of profile for our backup striker we need...Young and full of potential.
ReplyDeleteRomulu would be a great signing. What an engine that guy has.
