In November 2013, Rubin Kazhan mercenary star Yann M'Vila sparked speculation about his future after being spotted in the crowd at Anfield during Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Everton. Inevitably, the Reds were heavily linked with a move for midfielder during the January transfer window, and reports today suggest that LFC are still interested in the player.
According to Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato today:
* M'Vila will 'definitely leave' Russia at the end of the season.
* Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton are all interested in signing the France international this summer.
After watching the thrilling Merseyside Derby, M'Vila enthused:
"I have taken a great deal of pleasure [from this] great game of football [and] I'm going back with the jersey of Steven Gerrard, one of my favourite players"
In January, M'Vila's agent made it clear that the 23-year old would love a move to the Premier League. He told reporters:
"Many players dream of playing in the Premier League, and Yann is no different. There is interest from many European clubs, including English teams. We will see what happens"
M'Vila - who cost Rubin £10m last summer - is known to be very good friends with Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, who invited the midfielder to the Everton game in November.
France legend Marcel Desailly certainly rates M'Vila. In an interview last year, the former Chelsea star raved:
"He [M'Vila] is really the future. The talent is there. It is obvious. He is the best midfielder – better even than Patrick Vieira"
M'Vila is a talented player, but he clearly seems motivated by money. Why else would a 23-year old France international choose to go and play in the Russian league at a crucial stage of his career? Such a move is hardly going to improve his international chances, and/or give him regular Champions League football, so why else go there?
Maybe I'm being too harsh - after all, it's entirely possible that, as a child, M'Vila dreamed of leaving France and setting up home in the Republic of Tatarstan.

M'Villa Better than Patrick Viera...Desailly must be having a laugh!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, he seems to be mercenary, but maybe he just really regrets playing for a club in the middle of nowhere. I have my doubts about M'Vila, but maybe he can flourish as well under Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteGo to Russia, get a wage hike, moan about coming back to top league, get the transfer, further wage hike.
ReplyDeleteIn most companies you would be lauded as a genius. Plus its not like he's lost any value as a player. And at 23, still a lot of football and development left in him
ReplyDeleteI had my doubt about sturridge also...finally almost done eating my humble pie :)
ReplyDeleteI have seen M'Villa since he was 18 (I watched some of the French U19, U21, U21 & National Team with M'Villa, apart from French League) - he is a brilliant talent. France traditionally produces some of the best DMs, yet by 21 he had 22 French full cap. He is out of the French squad with disciplinary issues, otherwise would have definitely start for France in Brazil. Don't know if he is better that PV, but even if he is close to that colossus level, I am sure he is much more worth than 10mn.
ReplyDeleteI think he wanted to leave France for the issues with French FA & RK came with the best offer. Also, that time in RK, there were 2/3 other French players. I don't think money was only motivation, he is paid around US$4mn at RK (£50K/week), which is actually lower than PL standard. I think, he had some contractual issues at Rennes & left for RK (Russia is the best place to move if you have contractual issues, but want to move fast).
Yes, he would be good for us, steel in the center midfield, not sure about his attitude though, he's had trouble in France.
ReplyDeleteThe indication is that M'Villa has already had contact if he was at the derby.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see him come to us, great player and just the sort of player we need. Think we could get him for around 12m and thats a real bargain for a player of his quality. Lucas is a very good player for us but his injury record at the moment is shocking. So I think it would be a wise decision to make an offer for him.
ReplyDeletetotally agree!
ReplyDeleteWho knows?
ReplyDeleteI never thought he was as shit as others made out and thought I saw a glimmer of good defender but even I think his time has passed now. Sometimes opportunity can just pass a player by, unfortunately.
It'd take a gargantuan effort on his part to make any dent on the first team.
To be perfectly honest, mercenary footballers are something we're gonna have to get used to. For me it all comes down to the player. Nobody encapsulates the modern day mercenary footballer more than Tevez but he always delivered on the pitch, albeit he was a nightmare off it. The point is, if the player performs week in week out for the time he's at the club, I don't care what his motivations are
ReplyDeleteNah. No way he'd be able to cut it in England. Just no way.
ReplyDeleteMan U bummed again, oh dear, might have guessed we,d get no favours from that shower of shizza
ReplyDeleteYes Jamie, I think you are being too harsh. How many transfers do we see each season, and I believe most of them are for money. That does not make them completely mercenary, but lets not forget that professional footballers play for money.
ReplyDeleteRomulu
ReplyDeleteI think liverpool need M'villa, but i think M'villa needs liverpool more.Rodgers will bring out the best in him,he has potential and we need a player who plays in his position.Add moreno at LB and roberto firmino and if finances allow hummels from dortmund with what we already have we will be unstoppable, and challenging for silverware in all competitions.
ReplyDeleteNot quite though. He had other offers on the table, including Spurs I believe, and maybe even us. Anyway, he picked the wrong Everton match to go to :-)
ReplyDeleteI believe Mvila could be a top player in England but a lot is up to him and that is a worry.
ReplyDeleteI would make a bid offering a slightly lower wage than 1 may expect for his first season to test the water if he only wants huge money then let someone else have him.
Not entirely true, Sturridge took a pay cut to join us.
ReplyDeleteB Rodgers should bring in M'Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan for sure for £9-£11M to compete with Gerrard(33) and Leiva(27) for the next 2-6 years at club.
ReplyDeleteAlong with these 4 defensive players:
GK: A Mccarthy(24) Of Reading for £4-£8M to compete and Cover S Mignolet (25) for the next 5-8 years at club
RB: N Clyne(23) Of Southampton for £5-£9M to compete and Cover G Johnson(29) for next 2 years at club, then when G Johnson(29) leaves or retires in two years or plus Flannagan(20) will compete with Clyne(23) for his position.
CB: S Caulker(22) Of Cardiff for £7-£12M to compete and cover M Skrtel(29) for next 2 years, then when M Skrtel(29) leaves or retires in two years time or more Llori(20) will compete with Caulker(22) for his position.
LB: B Davies(20) Of Swansea for £5-£8M to compete and cover J Enrique(27) for the next 3-8 years at club. And when J Enrique(27) either leaves or is sold in 2-3 years, then another good young solid left footed left back should be signed to compete with Davies(20) for his position.
Those 5 players need to be signed first and foremost in the summer to shore up the defence in squad.
If there is one type of player Big fat Sam likes it's a defender. If he is not playing perhaps there is good reason? Either way I believe we have better options available to us already. Any swapping we do in the summer should be upwards. Not sideways at the most.
ReplyDeleteI think he is a good friend of M.Sakho. From what I have seen looks like an upgrade to Lucas, more power etc, that can give us that bit extra steel in midfield. Some players may look reasonably quick etc in other leagues but the PL is a different monster. All in all, for 10m he would be a welcome addition. Deep down I always hoped C.Coady will step. He is doing well at Shef Utd. I hope Coady, Lucas, and Gerrard can cover that DM role next season giving Coady a chance in the lesser games. Thus saving our money to buy Granit Xhaka and Mateo Kovacic, two young players that will add to quality of our squad in addition to Konoplyanka. Should we get rid a CB Mateo Musacheo is available on bossman else Matthias Ginter would be a sound addition.
ReplyDeleteI like him and I do rate him. I wish he gets a fair chance somewhere in Europe. Top 3 leagues of course.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but at Chelsea, his career was going nowhere. Plus I did say that most transfers are money motivated. Not all.
ReplyDeleteI know that he had offers, he I believe there was ownership issues & Rennes's billionaire owner (I believe Ralph Lauren) didn't want him to sale. In similar cases, I guess Russia is the best place to solve every problem in a blink of an eye. But, may be he was after money, though I don't think Russians pay higher than EPL.
ReplyDeleteM'villa or Diame. TBH we've needed an athletic presence in addition to Hendo .this would give an amazing blend of creative flair in Coutinho & Stevie & steel!
