Liverpool have been linked with Paris St. Germain star Jeremy Menez many times in the past, and with the summer transfer window fast-approaching, reports suggests that the Reds are still monitoring the attacker, who clear wants out of PSG.
According to Sky Sports this week, Liverpool are Arsenal are set to 'reignite interest' in £10m-rated Menez, who has been linked with a move to Anfield several times in the past:
* 2010: Rafa Benitez tried to sign Menez during the January transfer window, but the player decided to stay at AS Roma.
* 2011: Menez hinted that he'd leave Roma after a bust-up with Roma Coach Vincenzo Montella, and according to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish kept an eye on the winger.
* 2014: Brendan Rodgers reportedly considered putting in a £10m January bid for Menez.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport this week, Menez made it crystal clear that he wants a move this summer:
"I am misunderstood at PSG. I am looking for a team that would make me rediscover the pleasure of playing football".
Menez's unhappiness at PSG is a long running issue. During PSG’s Champions League win over Benfica in October, the 26-year old threw a strop and stormed out of the stadium after Laurent Blanc refused to bring him on. Then, in February, Menez told Telefoot:
"I need to feel trust, and the day I will not feel it again, we will have to find a solution. We will see at the end of the season what they [PSG] want."
A few weeks later, Blanc dismissed Menez's complaints, and hinted that PSG wouldn't stop him from leaving. He told reporters:
"The transfer market is over, Menez has to stay here. If he is not happy in June, he could ask to leave, as others players did. He is an important player for our team, but competition is logical in great teams,"
Menez insists he's a changed man, though, and this week, he told reporters:
"As for my character, I've changed. The rebellious image is a thing of the past. I am 26 years old and have a family which makes me calm. I'm more mature, and I can prove it on the field."
Menez is currently a bit-part player for PSG, and has only made 3 starts since mid-December. He can play on either wing, or as a second striker, and this attacking versatility could be useful for Liverpool. Stats:
* 2013-14: 2 goals/2 assists in 20 apps.
* 2012-13: 5 goals/10 assists in 38 apps.
* 2011-12: 8 goals/4 assists in 40 apps.
Possible option for the summer?

Average at best
ReplyDeleteWhy would Menez come from the shadow of the second best strikeforce in Europe? He isn't going to get more game time behind the best is he?
ReplyDeleteHe's a winger... Why would he be competing with SAS for game time?
ReplyDeleteMy main man.
ReplyDeleteCredit goes to my head writer, my Isaac Rabinowitz.
ReplyDeleteTemperamental this guy we don't need prima donnas...stick with the plan get Kopa
ReplyDeleteI thought the original decision to get the guy from Ukraine was a good one...We should follow through with it in the summer
ReplyDeleteSterling has been great we need someone to replace Moses before looking at Konoplyanka.
ReplyDeleteWell that rules out 90% of footballers...:-)
ReplyDeleteI was of the opinion that he played as a forward, he has been playing wider when played but he has also played striker. So who out of our SASAS would be out of the team? In a three would he get in the team ahead of Sterling? Not for me. So he won't get much joy in any of the forward positions will he?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be too worried about his temperament. Seems like he has issues with controlling himself a bit, but we had one of those last year and he seems to have turned it around. People can change that about themselves. What's worse for me is the Bendtners of this world, happy to claim they are the greatest players ever whilst sitting on the bench, instead of taking a pay-cut and proving it.
ReplyDeleteJay Rodriguez scored two today to go to 15. He would be a good pick-up I tell you.
ReplyDeleteyou could replace moses with a stuffed toy
ReplyDeleteYes but point being we need someone on the left who can play.
ReplyDeleteKono plays on the left
ReplyDeleteno he doesnt he specialises on the right.
