Lawro blasts: €5m Prem star 'does something wrong every week'. Please play vs. LFC...

Manchester City defender Martin DeMechelis is going through a poor period of form at the moment, and Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has hinted that Manuel Pellegrini should take him out of the team to avoid further 'mistakes'.

Speaking to the BBC today, Lawro observed:

"I'm wondering what mistake Martin Demichelis will make next.

"He seems to do something wrong every week, and he has plenty more mistakes left in him."

Demichelis cost City a penalty against Barca, which will almost certainly contribute to Pellegrini's team being dumped out of the Champions League, and will cost the club tens of millions in lost revenue.

His mistake is comparable to John Arne Riise's own goal in the 2008 Champions League semi-final first-leg at Anfield. That goal gave Chelsea a precious away-goal, and instilled confidence in the Blues to get the job done in the second leg.

Two months later, Rafa Benitez dumped Riise on the Anfield scrapheap, and it's conceivable that the same thing could happen to DeMechelis.

Pellegrini clearly didn't learn his lesson after DeMechelis's atrocious performance in City's recent 1-0 defeat against Chelsea. The Argentine prompted ridicule from Gary Linker, who tweeted:

"Good heavens! Martin Demichelis has come out for the second half. Certainly never appeared in the first."

With 19 starts this season, Pellegrini seems to have a soft spot for €5m-DiMichelis, so let's hope that continues until April, when City come to Anfield for one of the biggest games of the season.

If the Argentine is in the starting line-up, the Reds will have an even better chance of winning the game, which - if results go LFC's way - could have a major impact on the title race.

  1. Hi Jamie. Is is true that Liverpool are in shock negotiation talks to sign Victor Valdes next summer?

What are your thoughts on that?
