Incredible Talent: LFC want 'outstanding' £41m striker with 74 goals/assists in 53 apps

Along with a host of other top clubs, Liverpool continue to monitor attacking prodigy Donis Avdijaj, and Schalke are seemingly so worried that he'll be poached they've inserted a prohibitive buyout clause in his new contract.

Liverpool have been tracking Avdijaj for the last few years, and in 2012, The Mirror reported:

"Liverpool are trying to snatch Germany youth international Donis Avdijaj away from Schalke"

Today, the Daily Mail claims that the Reds are still interested in the 17-year old striker, and according to German newspaper Bild, Schalke have put a £41m a release clause in place to deter Liverpool from trying to sign the player.

With an incredible 59 goals and 16 assists in 53 games games for Schalke's U17 team, it's obvious why the German club wants to tie Avdijaj down, and responding to transfer speculation, Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt said:

'We do not comment on the contract contents of our players. But Donis is an attacking player with outstanding qualities.'

German football website Deutsch Football describes Avdijaj as follows:

"Avdijaj has some growing to do, as well as some bulking out, with the Osnabrück-born forward currently in possession of a slight frame that would mean he would struggle with the rigours of Europe’s top leagues.

"Quick, agile, a goal scorer with great vision and comfortable on both feet, Avdijaj has a base to build upon, that not many other young players around Europe have"

74 goals/assists in 53 games is an amazing record, but there's a world of difference between an U17 team, and the Premier League (or the Bundesliga). Liverpool probably have no chance of signing Avdijaj, but if the club is going to snap up teenage talents, then players with this level of creative return should definitely be targeted, but obviously not at £41m (!)

  17. If you're going to correct someone you need to be pretty sure of your facts. All you can really say is that he has a surname you recognise from Albania. The rest is speculation. The arcticle did not say he was German but quoted the mirror which correctly pointed out that he was a germany youth international ......elsewhere in the article it is (correctly it seems) pointed out that he was also born and plays his foobtall in Germany. So who exactly has failed - again.
