In September, Liverpool youngster Joao Carlos Teixeira sealed a three-month loan deal to Brentford, which, on the face of it, seemed like an ideal opportunity to gain some much needed experience. Unfortunately, after only 28 days, the Bees sent the 20-year attacker back to Anfield. Soon after, Teixeira started training with the first team squad, and based on Brendan Rodgers' latest comments, it looks like the Portuguese talent could be figure in Rodgers' plans at some point before the end of the season.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo over the weekend, Rodgers admitted that Teixeira found it 'difficult' when he 'stepped up to the first team before', but he now believes the Youngster is close to being ready. Rodgers enthused:
"Joao has been one of the outstanding performers for the reserves. It has been difficult for him, but I've seen a big difference in him; he's a talent. His intensity, the speed of his game - he has undoubted quality and he has showed up very well".
As the following photo shows, Teixeira trained with the first team over the Christmas period:
Anyone who's watched Teixeira play for LFC's youth teams will know that he's a very exciting player with lots of potential, and it would be fantastic to see him let loose on the Premier League.
Suso and Raheem Sterling were both younger than Teixeira when they made their first team debuts, but to be fair, the the Portuguese U20 star has struggled with injury during his time at the Academy, as recently-departed Academy director Frank McParland revealed in a recent interview:
“When we got to the medical his back was in a seriously bad way. We questioned going ahead with it but he was worth the risk. He was put in a back brace for six months. He is going to be a top, top player".
Come on, Brendan - give Teixeira a run out!

I'm all for blooding these young lads but it's difficult considering every game is a cup final with us chasing the CL places. Maybe give him a run if we are winning by a big margin. He's certainly a talent.
ReplyDeleteOn this site I wrote about 20 times about texeiras cruel treatment, and Im quite surprised BR actually mentinoned him now, think its little late now even if he introduces him, nearly the end of season, not many games to be played, couldnt play vs oldham or bournemouth, you expect him to play vs chelsea mancs spurs city? If I was Joao Id leave asap, cant see him getting game time under br.
ReplyDeleteYes please!
ReplyDeleteFirst there was suso and sterling (who will be apart of the first team next season no doubt), now there's teixeria and Ibe. Futures bright, futures red.
ReplyDeleteI think we've all been waiting for Teixeira to get his chance. I was worried that the reason he hadn't made a breakthrough (or less of one than, in my opinion, lesser players) was something to do with his attitude, so these comments are great to hear. We're going to be a team full of no.10s in a few years. Just like Arsenal...oh...oh good God, no!
ReplyDeleteWisdom will come back in I reckon. I also like the young lad whose on loan at Barnsley, McLaughlin. I think he's a star of the future.
ReplyDeleteThe lad should have been given his chance ages ago. it is a disgrace that he is still waiting when 16 year olds have been given a first team outing - he is a hundred times better. a guy on this site is always going on about it.
ReplyDeleteJamie, I said a few weeks ago that something was in the air re Texiera, he will be another reason Suarez might say he has been playing in training and his class will have shone through.
ReplyDeleteFrank Mcparland got this lad in even though he was long term injured - his severance pay off will have been nothing compared to what this lad could be worth.
ReplyDeleteOh come on! We have experts living eating and training with these youngsters. They will be assessing the readiness of young players. Age is irrelevant. What is disgraceful is you thinking you know better than the experts.
ReplyDeleteThere's a world of difference between a flying winger or striker starting that young and a midfielder who has to mix it with the men. You need to relax about this player, he won't come good for years.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile West Brom miss three golden chances in a minute to draw level with Chelsea. Little things decide seasons...
ReplyDeleteGive him a run against arsenal. Show wilshere and ozil how to play ;)
ReplyDeleteWell Chelsea drawing to west brom is a great result. It now makes our draw look a lot more impressive
ReplyDelete\How id his treatment cruel? What evidence is there that Rogers treats him any differently than other players? Perhaps he just hasn't been good enough or his attitude not quite right when he's been asked to join the 1st team squad - till now.
ReplyDeleteGiven BR has regularly played Sterling and included Ibe in many 1st team squads (and playing him Saturday against Arsenal) I'd say I'm happy to trust and back his judgement as to whether the player is good enough or has a future,
