Boss insists: 'Complete' €45m striker is better than LFC's Luis Suarez. Agree...?

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is on fire at the moment, and his four goals against Norwich on Wednesday mean he's now banged in 13 goals in the last 10 games for the Reds. Suarez is clearly relishing being back in the team, but according to Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, Sergio Aguero is a better all-round player than the Uruguayan.

Speaking to the BBC yesterday, Pellegrini explained:

"Suarez is a very important striker, but I think Sergio participates more in the game.

"He [Aguero] has always been a top player and scored goals, but he has added working for the team without the ball, which is important.

"Maybe there are better strikers than him, but not as complete as him.
"

Pellegrini is not alone with this view. Jamie Carragher also believes Aguero is the superior player, and in a recent column for the Daily Mail, he argued:

"I’d have to choose Aguero [as the best]. He's scored 43 times in the Premier League since joining Manchester City, but is averaging a goal every 121.4 minutes, compared to Suarez, who scores every 160.5 minutes"

Liverpool legend John Barnes recently argued that Suarez needs to 'improve his willingness to work for the team', so in that regard, it could be argued that Aguero is indeed superior (in terms of being more 'complete'). However, when it comes pure goalscoring genius, and quality/variety of finishing, Suarez is (arguably) - at this moment - on another level.

Aguero and Suarez will both appear at next year's World Cup, and it will be interesting to see who makes the bigger impact for their respective team. Also, if Suarez and Aguero swapped teams (in the Premier League), who would be the more prolific goalscorer...?

  1. What Pellegrini and Carra seem to forget is that Aguero has the pleasure of having the likes of Yaya Toure, Silva and Nasri in their midfield?

  2. i dont get where barnes says suarez needs to work harder for the team , he is always putting him self about ,chasing back making tackles , does aguero im not sure . and also aguero is surrounded by a slightly better quality players than suarez is imo , at the end of the day is there a need to compare the 2 they are both quality players

  3. Suarez IMO is indeed superior. I disagree with the observation that Suarez is not as complete as Aguero. On many occasions Suarez creates goals on his own without any real help from midfield. He doesn't lie deep all the time, he covers good ground and helps in retaining the ball sometimes. He also presses a lot more than Aguero does. After scoring 4 goals, he also assisted the fifth and actually was looking to setup more goals for teammates. All 4 goals were different and exceptional, in fact, he can be a poacher, complete/advanced forward and a target man. He is also good with the head, which is remarkable given his physical stature. He can dribble better than anyone in EPL, nutmeg better than anyone in EPL, have been scoring more goals then Aguero since last couple of season without the help of the quality midfielders like Toure, Nasri, Navas and many others. He has better international record than almost anyone in the planet. He can play almost anywhere, so does Aguero but Suarez IMO will be a better wide player than Aguero due to his skill sets. On numerous occasion Suarez has singlehandedly carried Uruguay and Liverpool. He is pure genius and as you, on another level.

Aguero is amazing as well, maybe second best striker in EPL and I would rate Yaya Toure as second best player in EPL after Suarez. Yaya Toure is a beast, he is exceptional. Of all the high class city players, he stands out.

Would love to see Suarez and Aguero strike partnership though. :-)

  4. Out come the Pool fans with their bias opinions and and excuses, you damn well know if you had the choice you would take Aguero over Suarez all day long. Just like you would Yaya Toure, David Silva, Vincent Kompany or Pablo Zabaleta.

  5. Dumbass clearly you don'r watch Aguero play, hes always defending when City don't have the ball. You're fcuking deluded Capel, so much that you believe there is no need to compare. Well we shouldn't because Aguero is up there with the best, Suarez is in pool 2 with the rest like Rooney and RVP the left it too late and the bus has left brigade.

  6. Naah, no Liverpool fan will take Aguero over Suarez. Agree about DM, would love Yaya Toure to replace Lucas Leiva.

  7. Plus Carra's stat for Suarez is slightly wrong. Suarez averages a goal every 145 minutes. Plus, has Carra taken into account that Suarez has been banned for a total of 19 games I think it is? Suarez would have scored more and made more assists in those 19 games.

Suarez for me is the overall better player.

  9. Clearly, your frustration shows the insecurity you have regarding your opinions. Rather then discussing in a civil manner, you want to impose your opinion on others. Are you sure what deluded means?

  10. Aguero would not have been doing as well as since joining City if he was actually playing for LFC.

Aguero vs Suarez? Suarez all day long.

  11. When it comes to Biteing Suarez is in a League of his own.. same with being a rasist.. no one can touch him.. On the other hand being a complete footballer.. 3 rd best in the World ( just now... in my Eyes he is the best) then its got to be Auguro he is the best allround footballer in the EPL. and if City ever sold him the fee would be a new World record. around the 150/200 million mark

  12. You lot (shiteh) would still be nothing without the money that's been poured into you.

  13. I'd take suarez all day long , he's IMO the best attacker in the BPL, followed by aguero RVP and Rooney. But nevermind who's the best of them all do have the individual class to win a game single handed, so every of these teams should be pleased having such an enormous impact player.

  14. Dont worry about city.. Think how Lucky you are to have Moyes..... Not man teams boasting a 40 year old running the midfield... not to mention a chief exec.. who only yesterday boasted-- WE CAN STILL SELL SHIRTS EVEN IF WE DONT WIN ANYTHING.. LIKE LIVERPOOL.. ( YES THATS WHAT HE SAID MR Woodward (WOODHEAD?)

  15. That's interesting. Ya if they switched then Aguero might get close but will score less eventually.

  16. About the world cup, it won't be a fair battle. The differences between Uruguay and Argentina as tams are massive. Uruguay might be even defending most of the time and won't, i believe, won't even get to the best 16.

Argentina as a easy table to play and will probably will be attacking all the time on everybody with the team they have threw most of the competition.

But ya it might also be right that LFC's method of play suits Suarez really well and in Uruguay he will might struggle more, which indicates something (MIGHT). Who knows what he will do eventually and how they will prepare, they gotta improve much till the world cup and might do so if they prepare right.
    .....
(the drawing of the world cup tables looks sold to me, same as when Durtmund got to champions league final last year with two offsides in one goal.

  17. It would be interesting to investigate.

if that was the case then Aguero surely would be scoring more than Suarez though?

  18. Pellegrini is such a better manager than BR. I can't believe we haven't got him when we had the chance. He would have been a LFC legend if he singed. What a manager. How blinded can people be to say Wenger is bad (until this season) and should go, and to not go all out for Pellegrini when they have the possibility.
He is definitely right here, Aguero is much more complete, and the value off that is way higher than meets the eye, or that one suppose it to be.
    Complete teams get success.
Who are seeming to cruel in to the title battle? Arsenal and City, complete teams with the best managers in the league by far.
Brendan Rodgers should do vipasana (not talk at all) for a week and learn something for ones.

Or i have another breakthrough - Rodgers would have been a better manager if he was slightly drunk all the time.

  19. I like Suarez, think he is a class player but has a silly temprement like Rooney! But to say he is on a different level than aguero is stupid, Suarez got 4 goals against Norwich and all were great goals but as a city fan I am going to say aguero (maybe their is bias) and Liverpool fans would say Suarez and understandably so!. Two great strikers with aguero a slightly better all round game and temprement.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And you think suarez isnt worldclass? Are you kidding me ?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Suarez has actually improved on temperament, and i think soon it's time to forget... Still the way he returned from the ban and has two goals more than Aguero at the moment is something very special.

Anyway, two outstanding but completely different players; Its absurd to compare who is better... Ya.

A difference is really that Aguero is more complete and that probably means he worked harder, so Pellegrini again shows he is a bright man.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree that his temprement has improved but it needed to be and I think he is a marked man (much like Super Mario) hope he does stay clean and the press stay off his back! The BPL needs players of that quality if we want to overtake la liga and bundasliga.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Aguero is used to playing second fiddle to a Uruguayan. At Atletico he was second to Forlan. Now in the PL, he is second to Suarez. When a player has played two thirds the games you have and still oiutscores you, there is no debate.

    ReplyDelete
  24. well who would have thought of that ;)

  25. I feel privileged to have witnessed this conversation.

  26. @Robo Lasers I so much agree with you and the statement by @blueknight is something that I am sure every LFC fan must've enjoyed.

  27. Please comment in a civil manner Jaimie. Or go to some other website. :D

  28. Kramer you sound like a utd fan, mine is bigger than yours type of attitude, just say you think Suarez is better and explain why? It was a simple question!.

    ReplyDelete
  29. what do they mean by work for the team?? Suarez runs his socks off every single game. I don't have a clue what these people are talking about.
And btw Jaimie, you always say that a striker should be judged solely on scoring and creating goals and you slate those who demand that a striker tracks back etc. But now, when it comes to Suarez, Aguero is superior because he 'works for the team'. Hmmm strange...

    ReplyDelete
  30. If Suarez played for City and Aguero for us, the difference would be a lot clearer. Suarez, hands down.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If you're talking about the best all round footballer in the EPL at the moment, you got the spelling wrong, it's not 'Auguro,' it's 'Aaron Ramsey.'

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have followed both players since the u20 world cup in 2007. The bottom line is Suarez could score every goal that Aguero scores, but Aguero cannot score half the goals that Suarez scores. If you cannot see that, then you are blind, or Aguero"s manager.

    ReplyDelete
  33. LOL have you ever watched both? i very much doubt u have,. the goals scored this season tells the story FACT.
Actually i would rate RVP and Rooney ahead of Aguero.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Suarez does more with less around him.

Aguero is a terrific player, he's playing on a 1,000,000,000 roster.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I on't Auero plays second iddle to anybody...but I still think Suarez is better...and more exciting to watch too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Absolute rubbish. I see Suarez in the 89th minute harrying west ham's defenders - and as a lone striker that must take a lot out of him. Imagine if he had toure, nasri, and silva behind him - he'd probably get 60 a season!

    ReplyDelete
  37. And if it was not for some rich owner ,to buy you them players, your man city would be floating in the second division or the relegation zone .( FACT )
