Dimitar Berbatov wants out of Fulham, and Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly considering a January move for the skillful, technically brilliant striker.
According to The Daily Express today:
"Dimitar Berbatov is looking to leave Fulham in the January transfer window, and [is] a shock target for Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea"
When asked this week about Berbatov's future at Fulham, the Bulgarian striker's Agent, Emil Dantchev, told reporters:
"I don't usually speculate as nobody knows what will happen in January but what I can tell you is he [Berbatov] is not happy at Fulham. He would like, if possible, to find another option, and the priority is to find a solution to stay in England."
Berbatov was linked with a move to Anfield during the dying embers of Kenny Dalglish's second spell in charge, and at the time, Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson urged the club to seal the deal. He told the Liverpool Daily Post:
"Suarez is the best ‘wriggler’ in the Premier League, the best at working himself space inside the area. It’s crying out for someone else to be sniffing around alongside Suarez in the box. Someone like Dimitar Berbatov would be the perfect foil for the Uruguayan".
Berbatov - who cost Fulham €6mm in 2012 - has the skill, technique and game intelligence to really make a difference at Liverpool. He may be 32 years old, but as his brilliant assist for Fulham last night proves, he still has what it takes to make an impact in the Premier League.
With Daniel Sturridge out for two months, there's no point (IMO) in spending big money on striker as competition would be too fierce once Sturridge returned. If Berbatov joined LFC, he surely wouldn't expect to play every single game, and he'd (arguably) be great cover for a few months. A loan deal in January, or even a permanent deal for a nominal fee would make real sense for LFC, and it would be exciting to see the Bulgarian strut his stuff at Anfield.
I conducted a survey on the site last year asking for Fans' views on a possible move for Berbatov; almost 11000 fans voted, and 60% agreed that he would be a good signing for Liverpool.
Berbatov grabbed 15 goals/3 assists in 34 games for Fulham last season, which shows that he's still got it.
Worth a bid...?

Yes please! He is def a different type of player to Suarez but something we need as well!
ReplyDeleteFor a short term deal it could work well. He is still class.
I don't think he'd ever play purely because he doesn't fit into Rodger's system in the sense that he likes his forward players to press high up the pitch - something he'd never do haha! "Keep calm and pass me the ball" springs to mind!
ReplyDeleteNO! We got Yesil! Use the german goal scoring machine instead.
ReplyDeleteWe need somebody up front with Suarez. Hull City showed a team can shut down Liverpool when Suarez is the only scoring threat because our mid-fielders can't handle the load. Having PC or RS pair with Suarez creates space and options for Suarez. Not sure Berbatov is the guy though. I have to doubt the work ethic of a guy who willingly gives up first team football on a bad team to be a stand for another striker on a good team until he's fit and then is content to sit the bench. Sounds like he's looking to play out his string and stay in England. If we get Berbatov in January and Sturridge returns in late January, wouldn't that money have been better spent on a really good CDM instead? We have strike talent that isn't getting game time. Why NOT Yesil or Texeira?
ReplyDeleteHe is brilliant when he wants to be but is there a lazier player in the prem?
ReplyDeleteHeard he might be heading out to Besiktas!
ReplyDeleteI do thinkwe needed a big man upfront and in midfield, to change the game if needed, or to play more direct or dynamic style if LFC is behind. Berbatov is a good addition, but I just don't think he would suit our style. Hes too lazy. What we need is a Diego Costa type player but cheaper and is a proven talent. We needed another Dirk Kuyt.
ReplyDeletehe is just back from injury...we cannot have too much hope or pressure on him now...
ReplyDeleteMitroglou sort of fits the mould - bangs in goals, is big, and cheap.
ReplyDeleteI think he could be our Gary Macallister part 2. REMEMBER the Scottish magician who looked like he'd lose a race to a toddler sleeping!
ReplyDeleteMitroglou would be great...still need that CDM though.
ReplyDeleteNot a bad comparison, mate. We tried to get Gary Mac years before he actually came, and I seem to recall that we tried to get Berbatov from Leverkeusen.....
ReplyDeleteCertainly worth a pop for the right price, just for some experience and game nous.
Not sure things would work out well for him at a field, if things don't go his way he seems to be a sulker & he,d soon get plenty of stick with his ex Man U history
ReplyDeleteMatic.
ReplyDeleteReally? The laziest player ever, ex manc, cant do well even in fulham, come on..never for me, even for free.
ReplyDeleteWould FSG sanction a move for a player at that age? How much would he cost? If FSG wouldn't pay for Clint Dempsey (who I know isn't the player Berbatov is) based on his age and the price, would they do that for Berbatov? I hope so. We need someone to come in and hit the ground running rather than another youthful prospect, I think. I don't even care about his Man U past. I just want someone who can come in and play well enough until Sturridge comes back. Having the extra option wouldn't hurt for Cup matches plus we're going to need a bigger squad if we ever make it into Champions League. Seems like a smart move to me.
ReplyDeleteWe will finish above manu this season,by the way...
ReplyDeleteAnd i still hate him for the match v the mancs when he banged a few in against us
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, but still.. I can see him scoring 5-6 goals in 7-8 matches he would probably play..
ReplyDeleteBerbatov is some very smart transfer business. I thought we should get him a lot lately. Adrian is another good option but Berbatov is better at more things when you think about it.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately FSG will probably be too narrow minded to see this is a good buy.
Too expensive - yan m'villa would be my choice
ReplyDeleteHe is good option till the summer, but we can't go to the cl with him as our only cover upfront...
ReplyDeleteEverybody is talking about him, but I don't know- never saw him really. Matic I did, and he is a monster. Smart one, too...
ReplyDeleteDidn't I post that we should buy Berbatov few weeks before? Good to know that his name is been thrown out. We should definitely get him.
ReplyDeleteWho cares if Spurs and Everton, or even Southampton will finish above us? Meaning, who cares if were not fourth at the end?
ReplyDeleteI enjoy so much to watch them lose but if we finish above them and we are not in the the top 4 I would be embarrassed to consult on that.
If they finish 7th in that scenario it will be funny, but i honestly don't think they will end up less than 6th.
I care. If we are 10th and above manu after all rhese years- I care.
ReplyDeleteAnd my prediction for them is 5th.
I guess opinions are divided on this one, as a rabid scouse manc hater i just couldn't hack seein the sulky, lazy git in our shirt
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of the person, as I think when he's unhappy he simply stops playing. He's showing that at Fulham now, where instead of becoming a leader for them, he's just sulking.
ReplyDeleteBut if we can play him and put him into a position to succeed, I do think he'll take advantage of it. But this is a short term fix for 6 months.
Yes, I remember that. Good shout.
ReplyDeleteThe guy wears gloves if it's under 70F , a real leader,lol
ReplyDeleteagreed - hes a beast with a clever eye for a pass - but i doubt FSG would pay 30m for this guy... there are many cheaper alternatives :)
ReplyDeletetbh my prediction for us is 5th... manu probably 6th - im afraid this will happen :/
ReplyDeletethanks but no thanks..
ReplyDeleteI can see City and Chelsea above us. And Arsenal- though they might finish 6th really. Same goes for Totenham but from different reasons .We must overcome at least one if we are what we are...
ReplyDeleteBut no better...
ReplyDeletewell thats probably right
ReplyDeletetbh means?
ReplyDeleteScene: Press Conference with Brendan Rodgers
ReplyDeleteReporter: "So, Brendan, why did you choose not to sign Berbatov this January".
Rodgers: "Well, we looked at the weather forecast."
"To Be Honest"
ReplyDeletetnx. Or something like that...
ReplyDeleteCraig Bellamy
ReplyDeleteKolo Toure
Asking Carra to stay
Steven Gerrard Contract Extension
They won't break the bank to sign players 30 and over... but the idea that we wouldn't pursue a player that age is simply not true.
"He did offer to play in a onesey " :)
ReplyDelete" when he offered to play in a onesey we thought he meant as a solo striker "
ReplyDeleteAgree about someone coming in and playing well enough until Sturridge comes back. It's a delicate balancing act though. Signing a top striker who expects regular football is just going to cause problems; you just have to look at LFC's ongoing central defence debacle to know that's true. Even someone like Mitroglou - a second-tier striker - is not going to be happy spending most of his time on the bench. Someone like Berbatov on a six-month loan would be perfect. He wants to stay in England, so give him 6 months at LFC to win himself another Prem contract with another club.
ReplyDeletecity, chelsea and arsenal will make the top 3 - not sure in wich order - 4th we have to fight with manu and tottenham - i dont expect soton and everton to stay up there with the big teams for the entire season..
